Here is last night's Camp Freddy Radio. Jen from Girl In A Coma made a surprise call in and totally made my day! We also spoke to Gina and Lindsey from The Darling Stilettos as well as A&R legend, Tom Zutat. As you know, Girl In A Coma performed on SpreadTV a few weeks ago but I was out of town when they taped their performance and I never got a chance to meet them. Jen's call to the station was totally unexpected and I was more than a little awe struck! I sure wish they were in town so they could join us for one of our final three Camp Freddy shows at The Roxy this month. Another time perhaps. For those of you who missed last week's Camp Freddy show, two of the girls from McQueen got up with us and rocked GnR's "It's So Easy" with Slash and Duff. I have to admit, not only did they kill it, but it was kind of hot to hear her sing the line, "turn around bitch I got a use for you!" As amazing as it is to do these shows with my musical peers and heroes, there is nothing more inspiring than to watch new talents like McQueen get up with us and rock it like nobody's business. Those are the moments that really make me smile. That inner knowing... "Fuck yeah, it aint dead yet!" I'd like to personally thank Wendybird for her amazing photography and documentation of these shows. Great work Wendy! Keep it up! YOU are our guest! I am off to celebrate Mother's day with my family. I hope you all have a beautiful day. I leave you with another video from Girl In A Coma featuring Amanda Lepore, who I am currently trying to book on SpreadTV. Amazing, provocative, intense:

SpreadTV

Camp Freddy last night at the Roxy was insane! There are three Thursdays left to catch a show! BTW: The Margaret Cho thing was supposed to be COMEDY! My reaction to the food was "acted" and "scripted"! Duh!!!! ;) The new SpreadTV is now up featuring street artist Shepard Fairey and return guest, author Whitley Strieber. I forgot to remind you guys that it aired already. It is now up in rotation over at ManiaTV.

Steel Panther

Last night, Todd and I rolled over to The Key Club in Hollywood to catch Camp Freddy's girls, The Darling Stilettos, open up for Steel Panther. Our girls were hot and sexy as hell and put on a killer dance/burlesque show as always. You can catch them before Camp Freddy every Thursday during the month of May at The Roxy. What I didn't expect, and I am admittedly late in the game on this, was that I was about to see probably the most "entertaining" Heavy Metal band I have EVER seen! Steel Panther! Formerly Metal Skool, Steel Panther is cover band of great 80's metal classics combined with a comical flair, that performs each Monday night at The Key Club. If you are a fan of the genre you HAVE TO check them out! I insist! As some of you know I am pretty jaded and have seen a lot of things and going to watch bands is pretty low on my list of priorities... But I was riveted. They are great fun, funny as hell and AMAZING musicians. The singer and guitar player are probably the best all around 80's metal coverists/players/imitators I have ever seen. This is a "glowing" review of a show that I plan to see many more times in the future. Long live Steel Panther!

Girl In A Coma

Here is my new favorite band, Girl In A Coma. They appeared on Spread and you can access their performance by clicking on "Live Performances". Their album has received the Editor's Music Choice honor on iTunes and for once, a music editor has it right! If you like the band, buy the whole album, not only to support the band... but to add a great album to your library.

Camp Freddy At The Roxy

(Photo: Wendybird) Thursday night was the first night of Camp Freddy's residency at The Roxy. We had a spectacular night and there are four more shows coming up! The Roxy was packed solid with first timers, old timers and of course some of our friends here at 6767. We had an incredible set list and guest list:

Cheap Trick- 'Hello Ladies and Gentleman'
Blur-'Song 2'
Killing Joke-'Eighties' w/Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray)
Oasis-'Rock ‘n’ Roll Star' w/Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme)
Led Zeppelin-'Good Times Bad Times' with Poe, Bettencourt
Adam Ant-'Ant Music' w/Steven Perkins (Jane’s Addiction)
David Bowie-'Suffragette City' w/Warren DeMartini (Ratt)
Ratt-'Round and Round' w/DeMartini, McGrath
Thin Lizzy-'Jailbreak' w/Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), McGrath
Sex Pistols-'EMI' w/Steve Jones, Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), McGrath
Motörhead-'Ace of Spades' w/Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead)
Eddie Cochran-'Something Else' w/Kilmister, Jones, Corey Parks (Nashville Pussy, Die Hunns)
The Stooges-'I Wanna Be Your Dog' w/Kilmister, Parks, Jones, Bettencourt, McGrath

The highlight for me, of course, was performing E.M.I. with two original Sex Pistols. What better way to say FUCK YOU to E.M.I.? Today, of course Billy and I will be doing another Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1FM ( click for live stream) between 6-8pm PST. I'm sure we will have more of the colorful details to discuss. If you missed last week's show, here it is!

Here is last night's show! Thanx Chase!

Some Answers

1. Did you guys get any video footage of your JA experience for a future segment on STV?

A lot of people have asked if Todd filmed the Jane's event at the NME Awards. The show was an exclusive NME event so we did not bring our cameras.

2. When someone's really annoying you, how do you normally deal with it, walk away, suppress your anger or just go for it and say what you think?

Sometimes I'm really good at just walking away and not getting into it, but then again, sometimes I have a hard time biting my tongue and have a tendency to make matters worse by saying what I think... Usually to the point where I am the one who ends up owing the apology... More times than not I can walk away, but actual suppression? Not so good at that!

3. Listened to Saturday's Camp Freddy and not one Jane's mention and you took no calls. Are you avoiding the Jane's question?

That show was taped about a week or so before the event. I was in New York last Saturday. When we do a pre-taped show for CF we are unable to take calls because, well, we are not live.

4. Do you ever feel overwhelmed doing so many things at once? And how do you cope with the stress?

YES! I do... However, when I have two consecutive days off, I start to go a little batty so I try to keep that in mind when I feel like I have taken on too much. As for the stress... Just got to walk through it sometimes.

5. Has Jane's recent activity forced you to put other current projects on hold or be delayed?

No, not at all. We all have lots of stuff going on. Perry has DJ gigs, Satellite Party, Lolla... Eric has his new album, "Help Wanted", Perk has Hellride and Banyan... Nothing has had to be put on hold for anyone but as for personal priorities... Jane's related gatherings are at the top of my list.

This Week

Finally home from New York. I spent the last couple of days there shooting a guest spot on a new show for IFC called Z-Rock. It's a fictional, loosely scripted show a la "Curb" that is centered on a rock band. I played the band's video director in this episode. The show starts up in September on IFC and it is super funny. Picture a modern day, episodic, sitcom with Spinal Tap overtones... but this show revolves around a real band. They blur the line between reality and fiction very well in a very humorous way. Set your Ti Vo's for this show.

Wednesday: DN & DJ Skribble in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Private :( Event)

This Thursday on Spread TV: Shepard Fairy & Whitley Strieber_Up now: Eric Avery and Margaret Cho.

Thursday: Camp freddy at The Roxy, Los Angeles

Sunday: DN & DJ Skribble in San Diego, CA (Moonstone)
