Dr. Lee found that within 10 days of a child running away from home, nearly one third are exposed to prostitution or pornography.

Children of the Night serves children between the ages of 11 and 17
and is open 24 hours a day. They receive over 30,000 calls each year
from children asking to be rescued from pimps, pornoraphers, drug
overdoses, assaults and more. In addition, trained staff hit the
streets several nights a week all over the Western region of
California in search of runaways to hand out their hotline number and
condoms. According to follow up studies, about 80 percent of the
chidren they rescue remain off the streets.
