NIN/JA Wednesdays

It's been a minute since I have checked in over here, mainly because there really isn't a lot to report... We have just been rehearsing and preparing for the NIN/JA tour. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about this tour as NIN has been one of my favorite all time bands since 1991 when I was given the chance to watch them every night for about a month. They have consistently released great, uncompromising music and have always put on incredible live performances. It will truly be an honor to share the stage with them again. In addition to NIN, Street Sweeper (Tom Morello and Boots Riley) will be joining the tour. Tom is an incredible guitarist and musician who has continually taken artistic chances while inspiring just about everyone within the sound of his work. Sharing the stage with such incredible artists each night will definitely have a profound impact on us. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our work along side such gifted performers.

To celebrate this collaborative tour event, my weekly radio show, Dark Matter (Wed, 10p-12a) will now become aka "NIN/JA Wednesday". As I have been doing, I will spin nothing but NIN/JA until the start of the tour. I will also include some Strays era JA, Porno for Pyros, Deconstruction, Psi Com, Satellite Party, Polar Bear, solo projects, The Panic Channel, Street Sweeper, Rage and any other incarnation of the tour's line up I can find. Feel free to make any suggestions in the comments regarding track selection.

For less interesting yet more frequent updates, feel free to follow me on Twitter.

The mark of a classic, that's CLASSIC song, is if it can break your heart, or somehting like that~

"Jane's Says" never stops doing that 4 me-

Hey Dave I see you've switched back to Ibanez guitars this tour? (I know these comments and questions probably seem inane or boring to you, I apologize..)

We were told that you switched over to Ibanez for this tour because you can play faster on them. This is of course because Ibanez makes one of the thinnest/fastest necks on the planet. Having said that I have heard/seen you rip just as hard on your PRS signature model which has the wide/thin neck profile. The PRS's neck however is NOWHERE as thin as the Ibanez wizard neck. Having said that the new one you are playing more than likely has a neck that is nothing like the ones you are used to playing. :(

The original Ibanez wizard necks were awesome. And from what I read, was the reason you used Ibanez guitars. These new necks Ibanez are calling "wizard" necks are actually wider, and thicker than the older ones. Making them harder to actually play fast on. I have NO IDEA why they did this, other than the fact people are tuning down and using thicker strings. (Wider fretboard, more space for thicker strings) I hate it.

This is why I wont buy an Ibanez that is made after 2004. That's when they changed the wizard neck.

Just a heads up. You may want to get your old Nothings Shocking guitar out. ;) though my favorite Ibanez you owned was the "Batman" telecaster. I'd LOVE to have that guitar. I mean not yours, but a new one that Ibanez could make. :p

The final question, how does Paul feel about you playing Ibanez on stage? And is there some contractual print that lets you get around such things? (I know some people that have contracts with guitar companies aren't allowed to be seen playing with any other brand of guitar.) I think its obviously not the case.

And what is with the Gucci strap? That is so not alternative. ;) They are going to take your flannel shirts and striped hose away from you Dave.

NINJA Wednesdays...

NIN- The Only Time, Even Deeper, The Big Comedown, Ruiner, Reptile

JA- Superhero, Wrong Girl, Pigs In Zen

Deconstruction- Iris, LA Song, Get At 'Em, or pretty much anything off that album... good stuff ;)

YOUR solo Stuff- SLOW MOTION SICKNESS (homie, you could do an in-studio performance), Avoiding The Angel, Venus In Furs

That's one set of ideas....

Much Love and Respect,
-Kirsten

OMG Nice!!
Gonna love the new NIN/JA Wednesday thingy!! :D
Well.. actually it's gonna be really similar to my regular playlist here, with the addition of the holy Navarro man speaking words of wisdom in between the songs :P
Keep rocking on, Dave! :)

good idea to now be spinning your own storyline...no need to sponsor anything else...quite a strong selection...always admired trent and tom for their integrity and purpose...and their non apologetic delivery...we don't want any simpering or wavering in the face of dynamics...ballsy is what we want dave navarro hardcore ballsy music that lifts the hair off your head gives you goosebumps and threatens to burst ear drums whilst sorting out the meaning of life can you manage that:)i trust you implicitly mon cher...ha X

I have just been reading this book, so powerful and moving, that I had to share it. It is called Out From Under, about the Dangers of Gay parenting. A particularly horrific and disturbing passage is, and I hate to repeat this, but I fel it is necessary as a warning to others, about the dangers of Gay Parenting, anyway Evil Gay Dad is driving the family car on the holiday and decides that the pet Chihuaha needs some exercise. He simply gets out, attaches the dog to a long leash at the rear of the car and drives off again. The children are then subjected to the disturbing sight of the Chihuaha bouncing up and down off the road in the rear window looking highly distressed. The dog was okay in the end but had to be heavily bandaged and highly sedated.

Another almost equally disturbing passage was when Evil Gay Dad was driving again but this time getting his nine year old daughter to wind the window down and shout "got any rocks?" at Possible druggies or dealers. "Drugs it seemed were to much part of life on the streets of Apapulco."

Really this book is the most hilarious thing I read for a long time. At one time Evil Gay Dad even made a death threat towards his daughter. By the end of the book one is beginning to understand why......

How about something by our good friend Charlie Manson (once a fledgling musician), such as: "Look at Your Game, Girl."

Actually have never heard it, but am curious.

And, if possible, would you sneak some Bowie in there once in awhile?????

Thanks!

Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! I just saw Vixen's post and Janes is playing T in the Park!!!! That's only 30 miles away from me - I can't believe it!! I've been reading all the NIN and JA excitement on here and gone to myself "yeah, yeah, whatever" because everything is based in the US, but not only are you coming to the UK, you are going to be just down the road - fuck I just can't believe it.... There is only the one small problem of me not having a ticket, ermmmm what to do about that?? Any chance of free tickets to see you there??? - doubtful I suppose as it's a big festival. I will have to hatch a cunning plan.....

Jeez I'm so excited I'm going to have to lie down......................................SB

PS Vixen - you definitely going??

SB

Sorry I'll stop now.

Fucking yeeeehaaaaaa!! Dave, I'll be the grey-haired slightly over-weight one dressed like somebody's mother standing at the back......but I'm gonna be there!!!!!!! .....and if by some fluke I get to meet you, I'm gonna totally miss the moment by passing out like a 14 year old.
