Dark Matter Tonight (NIN/JA Wed)
Tonight is an all new Dark Matter (Wed, 10p-12a PST) on Indie Online. As I have been doing, I am keeping the playlist strictly NIN/JA related. I will be watching for questions and comments on Twitter and you can always call the studio at 1-877-900-1031.

SXSW
(Photo: Margaret & Yoli) Lots of stuff goin on. Our show at SXSW went great and we all had an amazing time. It was the first time we have had the opportunity to spread out a bit on a larger stage and we played to about 1000 people, our fullest house yet. We started the set with Three Days and took it from there. I have to say that I am very lucky and honored to be playing with such a great and diverse group of players. Everyone was on form the other night. Avery stomping around keeping the solid rolling bottom, Perk unyielding as always and Perry the ultimate showman, captivating as ever. It was a late show, 1:30am, and somehow that felt like a perfect time for us that night. Reminded me of the old days when we would play a gutted warehouse at an ungodly hour. The venue was an old supermarket that had been revamped and turned into a club for the event. (Insert "Been Caught" puns here.) We are very happy that many of our fans were able to attend as a result of the website sign up. I know it's not a perfect system yet, but we are on it. Great to see Margaret and Yoli up front and my friends from Girl In A Coma showed up to lend us support. ALWAYS great to see them! I kept a Twitter Feed going throughout the night to share the evening with those who could not attend. For some reason, I took some shit for this... But fuck them! They can ALWAYS unfollow... RIGHT? For me, part of the excitement of doing shows is interacting with the people. Now that we can interact with people everywhere at once... Why not do it? We also did some press together for the first time since we have been working together with the original line up. Rolling Stone, MTV, SPIN etc... The process wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I am happy we have until now, remained quiet about what's going on, unless directly to the fan base from us or our touring partners NIN. Speaking of which, the NIN/JA Tour Site is now up with a free down loadable NIN/JA EP featuring some re-recorded tracks... Whores and Chip Away. The thinking being that we wanted to give our longtime listeners something to celebrate the tour and Whores has always been one of the tracks that defined Jane's early on. The XXX version, while full of attitude and captures the time it was done, lacked some of that complete sonic "turn it up in the car while driving fast" quality... Even though we did! We recorded the songs with Trent as he seemed a perfect fit for us... We are, after all, going on tour together. He did an amazing job working with us, which isn't always easy! He brought an updated take on the songs while insisting on staying true to the Jane's raw sound of the time. Now, for the first time, these multi tracks are available for download so you can do mixes and tweak the songs anyway you want. The tracks are available here. Thanx to Trent, Atticus and Alan for the great work and the online space and community to make this possible. For now, we are in full Jane's rehearsal for the tour mode. We are also working on making our online community smoother. The site JUST launched and definitely needs some fine tuning. We thank you for your continued support and we will see you very SOON.

Spread Radio Live - 24/7 NIN/JA
To celebrate the upcoming tour, we have decide to convert Spread Radio Live into a 24/7 NIN/JA only station. That means that past episodes of Dark Matter NIN/JA Wednesdays and entire Jane's Addiction albums will be streaming at all times until the end of the tour. As the weeks progress, we will upload new Dark Matter shows and some obscure Jane's tracks off the soon to be released box set. We have a stand alone player that can be launched so you can enjoy the playlist while you work or browse or do whatever you do.
Today is our last day off before we leave for Austin Texas. I plan to do a whole lot of nothing. If you signed up for tickets to this show, you should receive an email regarding your status today. We only had a limited number of tickets set aside for the fans and if you didn't sign up in time... Know that we will be back!

Last Wednesday's Dark Matter
Here is the latest Dark Matter. Thanks to Chase for getting this uploaded for us.
From JA.com:
"Welcome to the new Jane's Addiction site. As you can see, there really
isn't a lot of content yet as we are still in the early construction
phase. There are lots of things that need tweaking and added as we go
but we wanted to give you a place that has all the latest information
regarding shows and tour dates. Registering allows you access to the
Jane's community as well as receive e-mailed updates that will alert
you to the latest news and fill you in on unannounced events. Jane's
has never really had much of it's own web presence as it has been the
fan based sites that have kept us alive online. Thank you to everyone
who has supported us over the years by breathing life into our digital
existence. Our intention is to make JA.com more interactive as it
grows with band entries and band generated pictures and video... We
want to take you on tour with us.
The latest: We have been rehearsing all week for an upcoming private
show in Austin, Texas. We have set aside a number of tickets for those
of you who have signed up to the site. Stay tuned for more details
on how to attend this specific event and clear your schedule
the evening of the 19th."
Dave
Also, we have added the NIN/JA tour site to the list of links on the right. Should be live any day now.

Dark Matter Tonight (NIN/JA Wed)
Dark Matter (Wed, 10p-12a) is officially now "NIN/JA Wednesday". I will spin nothing but NIN/JA until the start of the tour. NIN/JA, Porno for Pyros, Deconstruction, Psi Com, Satellite Party, Polar Bear, solo projects, The Panic Channel, Street Sweeper, Rage and any other incarnation of the tour's line up I can find. We have many weeks to come and there is a lot of music to get through. Thank you for your suggestions... I will be changing the set each week as a result.
I will be watching for questions and comments on Twitter and you can always call the studio at 1-877-900-1031.
The new Jane's Addiction Site is slowly starting to take shape. It needs some content and tweaking but overall, the layout is fairly done. Keep checking back for updates and don't forget to sign up for newsletters regarding shows, tickets, special events and more.

NIN/JA Wednesdays
It's been a minute since I have checked in over here, mainly because there really isn't a lot to report... We have just been rehearsing and preparing for the NIN/JA tour. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about this tour as NIN has been one of my favorite all time bands since 1991 when I was given the chance to watch them every night for about a month. They have consistently released great, uncompromising music and have always put on incredible live performances. It will truly be an honor to share the stage with them again. In addition to NIN, Street Sweeper (Tom Morello and Boots Riley) will be joining the tour. Tom is an incredible guitarist and musician who has continually taken artistic chances while inspiring just about everyone within the sound of his work. Sharing the stage with such incredible artists each night will definitely have a profound impact on us. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our work along side such gifted performers.
To celebrate this collaborative tour event, my weekly radio show, Dark Matter (Wed, 10p-12a) will now become aka "NIN/JA Wednesday". As I have been doing, I will spin nothing but NIN/JA until the start of the tour. I will also include some Strays era JA, Porno for Pyros, Deconstruction, Psi Com, Satellite Party, Polar Bear, solo projects, The Panic Channel, Street Sweeper, Rage and any other incarnation of the tour's line up I can find. Feel free to make any suggestions in the comments regarding track selection.
For less interesting yet more frequent updates, feel free to follow me on Twitter.

Check In From JA.com
After compiling a list of FAQ, the most popular inquiry on Twitter has been, "When are we gonna get tour dates?" Well those are coming SOON! Right now we are in high gear routing the upcoming tour with NIN and as soon as we have a confirmed tour, you will know. Trust me... It's not like we have the dates and are holding them hostage... We want you to come! I can't think of a better way to start up again then a tour with the original four members of Jane's and NIN.
The original Jane's line up: After many years of different versions of Jane's Addiction, Eric Avery has re-claimed his position. We have had the honor of working with some great bass players over the years... Flea, Martyn Le Noble and Chris Chaney... But the Jane's sound was never complete without Eric. With Eric holding down the bottom, the Jane's rhythm section is once again complete. It's almost as if he and Perk live together symbiotically, to create a singular overwhelming sonic onslaught that ebbs and flows like a musical ocean. Perk and Avery not only bring out the best in each other, their ability to lock and weave with one another challenges and inspires me as a guitarist.
NIN/JA: Since our reformation, we have been spending a lot of time with Trent in the rehearsal studio and in the recording studio, working on new stuff, addressing some old stuff and more importantly, creating a friendship and working relationship. It's rare that touring partners have an opportunity to spend so much time together creatively before a tour. Regardless of the collaborative outcome our time with Trent has brought forth a new focus and sense of purpose that we plan to share with you on a nightly basis. NIN and Jane's are vastly different bands, for sure, but we have always had a connection as a result of our time together on Lolla One and various shows together. NIN/JA shows have always been "events" more than anything. Back in the day, Jane's was winding down as NIN was taking off. Our musical lives crossed each other at a very important time in music. A time where artistry and live performance meant something more. A time when the corporate structures took notice of the value in what was happening, but hadn't yet destroyed it. Touring with NIN is an invitation for us to re-capture that spirit that was at a time, inspiring, dangerous and emotionally compelling, as they have always maintained the same integrity that brought me to love music in the first place.

Sunday
Good morning. Sorry I have been away for so long I have been out of town for the past week finishing up some commitments, Incidentally, when there isn't much to blog about, you can usually find me on Twitter posting mindless updates throughout the day. Yes, another social networking site, I know... But it's quick, easy to use and I am able to update from wherever via my cell phone. Even though it's not an IRC, I kind of use it as such, which makes Q&A much more immediate and easy. I have already interacted with some of you over there and have met many more like-minded insane Internet people. A lot of fun for sure, even if half of the updates say, "Hey! I'm not doing anything right now." Speaking of Internet stuff, this month should prove to be quite interesting as Robert and I are currently working on re-vamping 6767. Of course, when I say Robert and I... I mean Robert. He is making 6767 the hub where everything in our world comes together.
Also, janesaddiction.com is starting to take shape. Keep your eyes on that site for official updates, tour announcements, blog entries from the band, visual media and audio. Jane's really hasn't had much of a web presence over the past several years and we are trying to upgrade as quickly as we can before the NIN/JA tour.
_I just got home from Aspen, Colorado where The Aspen Youth Experience event was being held to aid at-risk youths. It's a great charity and I was honored to participate with DJ Skribble and J Mello.
_While in NYC, I shot another episode of Z Rock for IFC. That should air sometime in June.
_This Wednesday is a new episode of Dark Matter on Indie Online. 10pm-12am PST Feel free to call us at the studio to chime in on anything we may be discussing at 1-877-900-1031. You can listen live online here, or wait for the Podcast which is loaded on 6767 a day or two after the show.
