Last Night
Thanx to everyone who came down last night to support us at Echoplex. After playing a couple little shows in Mexican restaurants Downtown, it was nice to play and actual music venue. El Cid and La Cita definitely had vibe and character, but Echoplex felt like the next right gradual move. Not too big, not too small. From what I hear, the sound was much better as they have a proper in house sound system and monitors. I certainly hope that it was an easier evening for everyone attending... We played a short, tight set with Up The Beach, Whores, 1%, Ain't No Right, Mountain Song, Been Caught Stealing, Ted... Just Admit It, Stop!, Had A Dad and Ocean Size. Here is a review from Rolling Stone today that Sue has posted for us. I felt that of the three shows we have done so far with this original line up, last night was the smoothest in terms of taking care of the audience, the stage sound, the front of house sound and our gear working properly. Thanx to Dan who ran around town yesterday repairing my head. We cut it close but that particular 900 has something all the others don't and we haven't figured out what exactly that is... All we know is that we like it best.
Trent officially announced yesterday that he has graciously invited Jane's Addiction to do some dates with Nine Inch Nails this year. We couldn't think of a better way to kick off our touring life than with NIN. One of our 2009 dates has already been announced at the Sasquatch Music Festival. JA/NIN/TV On The Radio...

Best show I have ever seen. I have waited 13 years for that show, I was SO excited that I had a panic attack. ha. (Good thing Amber was there to calm me down) Thanks Dave for a fantastic early b-day gift.
Totally loves it!
Much Love, Sassycc
PS- Thanks AER.

I have to agree..that was probably my favorite show to date! Thank you so much Dave, and to the entire Jane's Team for making last night such an incredible experience! I missed a Phoenix show in '98 due to some BS, but worth the wait it was!
Wow, you all were amazing!!
..back to the real world of work now...
I saw the og Jane's lineup?!?!

Please come and tour in Belgium, this summer! Here are some BIG fests ( Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, ...) :p
I know you can do it. The night i see NIN and Jane's "together", it's like a dream come true!!!
And I'm far not the only one...
Please think about it :)

So..."Dan ran around town yesterday repairing my head"???? WHAT?! Does this mean you're *AGAST!!!!*-dare I say it-NORMAL!? Oh wait, I shouldn't assume that you were talking about that big lump on your shoulders. OH NO...did your penis head fall off?! Did you have a piercing get infected? It is not to be used it as a pin cushion.Unless it fell off from excesssive sex/masterbating. See folks, one can indeed jerk it off! Did he use super glue or duct tape for the repairs? Oh what will you do w/out sex. There's always knitting. ha
"kick off our touring life"? It's amazing how one event(in your case NME Awards) can ignite magic. Makes one wonder if that hadn't happened. I know people will be beside themselves in hearing the news. I guess you're looking forward to those munchie/sugar fests nightly w/ Dan. Ah....male bonding. Just don't go spooning w/ him, Todd'll get jealous. Unless you do it 'OZ' style. Then I don't think Todd will have a problem in missing it. He would probably not balk at giving over the 'bottom bitch' title to Dan. Happy to see you had a good time. Can't wait for pix, Amber! Take care, Dave. CAM

Hey Dave,
I posted this in yesterday's entry, but didn't want you to miss it.
Thank you for the show last night. You guys were amazing, and the entire email list process thing, somehow, worked liked a charm.
Anyway, here are a few questions for you or Dan (thanks for the stick, by the way) about the guitar you were playing at the show. It looks like an Ibanez version of your PRS – white finish, gold hardware, no pick guard. What is it, custom shop, US-made, RG570? Is it going to be available? Who built it? Sorry, I’m drooling.
Thanks for any info and again – awesome show.

I can NOT wait for all the dates to be released!! I gotta make plans...and book a flight!
But I do have a bet riding with Sue, I said the full tour dates wouldn't be released until March. So can you bring that up at the next board meeting...one dollar is riding on that baby!
and I have to ask: Furian, is that a attempt at comedy? Cause if it is, keep your day job!

sasquatch 'eh? i should be able to make it up to the gorge in may :) saw widespread panic there a couple of times- so familar territory- i know damn hippies- even though i dont consider myself one especially since i stopped smoking pot over five years ago- still love the smell of the good stuff though.
great set list last night and i'm glad i made somebody's day w/ my RSVP!
anywho- i'm assuming due to the festie you might not be doing another PNW date so i will plan on that and look into who is doing medical for the event to see if i can get in on volunteering the event- as well as almost-a- nurse i am also a first responder and know some folks. thanks for keeping all of us updated! have a good day!
the best, amy

Wow. Last night was quite an evening! It was amazing to finally see you guys perform in a place where I could actually hear each of you! La Cita was really drum heavy for me as I was standing right by Perkins, and like you said they probably didn't have the best sound system happening. All of you guys were so in your elements last night. Perry was so joyous, and couldn't seem to stop smiling. Eric was like a caged animal up there...he's SOO intense! Steven was on point just going nuts back there, pounding away, making me feel like my heart was jumping out of my chest. And Dave...Wailing away on those crazy solos...it was the first time I could hear you play those songs clearly, and I can't even tell you how many times I got chills. Absolutely amazing stuff.
My head is still pounding, my ears still ringing and my heart is still full. Your wording above "...kick off our touring life," made me smile...things are looking good.
Unfortunately, my camera was stolen over xmas break, so I wasn't able to take any pics/vids last night...which is a serious shame...I had an unobstructed view all night as I was right behind LadyM's friend in a wheelchair up front. BUT, selfishly, I kinda enjoyed it because not having a camera made the experience more intense, for sure...I was sucked into their musical vortex from the first hypnotic notes of Up A Beach, and there I stayed until you guys finished blowing the roof off the place with Oceansize. THANK YOU so much for doing the show! Can't wait for more!!
xoxo

Damn dude, something about that youtube vid for Up The Beach from last night that makes me ball my eyes out. I don't know if it's happiness for you and where you've been and where you are now, or the joy of seeing all 4 together again on a proper stage, or the excitement of seeing a JA date at a festival again, something I haven't seen since '91, or what exactly IT is-but it sure does feel good.
Congrats to you and all the others on an excellent night, and nice vid by Isaccs posted on youtube today too. One request and I WON'T bombard you, but please play Bonnaroo as well.
Please. And if you've a notion, you guys and Trent and Co should swing by ATL and pick up a lil band called Deerhunter as the opener on this tour. Just a suggestion. It would fit.
Love you Man. Long Live JA!

Got the podcast for the Dark Matter show from 11 Feb, but any chance of getting the whole show and not just the call from crazy psychic lady?
Thanks,

It was a great show.
Personally I though El Cid was better. The set list was better and longer. Also the crowd was less annoying.
As for the sound I had moments where I got to close to the stage where the vocals weren't as loud. Plus there were some lame duded who have to scream every word at the very top of their voice and you can't hear Perry.
All in all a blast with Ted Just Admit It being the absolute highlight.

Hi Dave,
I was at the show last night and wanted to give you my thoughts.
With NIN extending their offer they are opening the flood gates for Jane's to return to their former glory... if not beyond. There is a saying in the music industry which you have probably heard, "When you get an opening, drive a truck through it."
Last night you guys were awesome... I would even go so far to say it was the best show I've ever seen in a venue that size. However... in my humble opinion, as a longtime fan and someone who really wants to see you guys succeed on a large scale, Perry needs to turn up the intensity. Way, way up. He needs to have more edginess both to his voice and in his onstage presence. I know he's been through a lot and has grown spiritually. But a lot of people still look to Jane's for their raw power and much of that was coming from Perry's scream. I don't wish him harm I just wish he could connect better with the audience and the reason they are there. In my opinion the audiences he's singing to -perhaps unlike himself-are people who struggle on a day to day basis and are looking for a release. Like it or not that is what Jane's has stood for and in my opinion is how they can remain valuable and relevant to society.
It's ok for him to scream and dress more like he used to. He doesn't have to constantly reinvent himself. People just want to see the original Jane's that they knew.

For Rob... The guitar Dave was playing is a somewhat customized Ibanez RG Series. I got it in white with gold hardware because that is what Dave prefers, but instead of the Floyd Rose bridge, I had them put on a Stratocaster style "floating tremolo." Jane's Addiction songs need to be played on a faster guitar, and by faster I mean that Dave can really move around quickly and comfortably for solo's and whatever else his magical fingers do. As far as the drumstick goes...you are very welcome. I will see you again I'm sure. Dan "Paddy O'Flannagan" Cleary

Hi Dave:
What stellar news! I hope you guys are able to make a stop in Pittsburgh. We don't get a lot of shows anymore...seems like everything goes to Columbus or Cleveland.
Nothing's Shocking came out when I was 12 years old, and that record changed my life. I'm thrilled that the original lineup is back together. I hope to be able to buy a ticket and come see you to thank you for all of the joy you've given me over the years.

After reading Johnny Firecloud's review of the show, I am left only imagining the incendiary feeling given to on those lucky handful whom were able to attend. I freaking should have skipped work, dang it! Hope you guys play a few more small shows before the NIN co-tour! (wishing upon a star =).

Yeah, sounds like it was a stellar show, no doubt. A little short, but then again, hey, they played!!
And about the crowd..I heard a very fat, drunk, & abnoxious couple were near the front, and just totally, well, outta control..
He said he was with her because she had a quote, "tight pussy," and I heard she yelled out, "Robert Smith!" at the Doc Hacker guy, who, btw, rocks!!
I live in Silverlake and this was THE place to be that night, bummer I couldn't attend-it's still the talk of the town-
adios-
