Camp Freddy Winners:
Eric Gross +1
Kim Tillman +1
(This is the view from my window. What is this? Some kind of sick joke?)
1. How did you & Todd meet?
God, we both get asked that question all the time and there really is no great anecdote to it. I wish could tell you, "I was down on my luck and stranded at a train station in Wisconsin when all of a sudden this kind young man asked me to come in from the rain and share a hot cup of cocoa. That kind young man, turned out to be none other than our very own Todd Newman! The rest, as they say, is history." Truth is that we live in the same city and know the same people and we just started hanging. Come to think of it, Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver introduced us. Maybe it IS an anecdotal story... But only because Dave is in Velvet Revolver. At the time, he wasn't. So, what was once a non anecdotal story became anecdotal when Dave joined the band, without us having to lift a God damned finger to make the story of our initial meeting anecdotal!
2. So, what do you want for Christmas?
Well, I am not much of a "stuff' guy... That makes me pretty hard to shop for I hear. Actually, the Newman family did really well with me and got me several pairs of colorful striped socks! I am kind of a sock whore and always have to wearing something secretive and fun that only I know about. Well, me and one other... Two others on a good night! Otherwise I really don't have a wish list. I suppose what I really wish for is World Peace! And now, please allow me to dazzle you with my rendition of Ave Maria...
3. I was wondering if there will be a Dark Matter next Wed/Thurs as the show would be in the early hours of Christmas Day? Pre-taped perhaps?
You better believe it! My plan is to call over to Todd's house around 11pm and claim there is some kind of emergency so his wife will release him from late night Daddy duties. Then, we sneak over to the station to bring in the Miracle of Christmas Morning live on air! I will need to verbally and emotionally purge on the airwaves anyway as I will be coming from my family's Christmas Eve dinner and that is always good for fuel for discussion. Who knows, it could become a Holiday Family Dysfunction Show.

You're absolutely right on about Rachel Miner, Dave. Fantastic show you've got on Indie 103.1 Dark Matter is brilliant!

You haven't mentioned anything about recording another solo album lately. Is that still something that may happen in 2009?

Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!!!!!! I would've won a Camp Freddy ticket, and I WANT TO GO!!!!! I live too far away :( Bet it will be a fantastic show too.....I'm going off to cry now..... Dave, you owe me a ticket now if I am ever in the US....yeah, right. Anyhow......
In a Dark Matter a couple of weeks ago, Todd and you made reference to you having a 'vacation' with some Vicodin. The surrounding story made it sound like it wasn't that long ago. My question/s is -
Does it scare you how easily you can fall prey to an old addiction and were you pleased with how you dealt with it and moved on? (I am sincerely hoping you have moved on!!)
That's it, I'm away to sulk now..........
Happy pre-Christmas everyone..................SB

Hey Dave! Thanks for your continuous generosity in a time of global economic recession, for the most part. How has record industry changed for you in the past five years due to our horrible economy? Is there any way Lollapalooza could make its way to Los Angeles next year? Since Los Angeles County is the largest county in the nation with over 10 million people spreading out over 4,064 square miles, it seems like the best place to have Lollapalooza and it would probably generate the most money.

I think a really sick joke would be if Crapitol had "Merry Christmas Dave Navarro" spelled out in big twinkling lights facing your building.
or
Call them 400 times tomorrow asking "Where's the Menorah?"

Hahahahaa!
Too funny.
I'm looking forward to the next Dark Matter no doubt. Also, I'd like to add that it'd be phenomenal if at some point in the future Bobby Lee is brought in for a DM... Just a thought! :)

I've finally had the chance to start listening to some past Dark Matters while wrapping my Christmas presents -- not caught up yet -- but they are fun.
A little like listening to the conversation in a hair salon. It was nice to hear the different takes on Space Oddity.

Start time 4 Camp Freddy has been around 11pm. But, I'd get there early 2 get a great spot and enjoy the 2 opening bands. Last week, Mark McGrath almost spilled the beans on the amazing special guest that'll be on the Camp Freddy stage this week. Considering that Jonesy's Jukebox on Indie 103.1 world premiered 4 new Prince songs that are still in rotation and that Prince lives right here in the City of Angels, my bet is the special guest is PRINCE! No confirmation on that...just my best guess. Whoever is on that stage, the show is going 2 be one helluva ROCK AND ROLL explosion and NOT 2 be missed!

awesome Qand A dave!
again happy holidays to you and your family and all the 67ers!
i need everybody out there to think very happy thoughts for me... due to an abnormal amount of snow in pdx-the most in 40years- i might not make it home to san jose, ca tomorrow... no southwest flights hae gotten to sj, today or all weekend due to lack of ability to handle the snow we are have had here... after calling the airline i had a split second to make up my mind to change flights- if the weather report is accurate- tomorrow might actually be my best beat w/ a 30% chance of snow compared to 80% chance one wensday... so happy thoughts and wish me luck...
the best, amy

I find it a bit odd that you have lived in that appartment for over a year and have only just realised you can see Capitol records from it. Have you only just drawn the curtains?
Posted by: tiffanybean
at December 23, 2008 03:20 AM
Don't you think it was an interesting subconscious decision to buy an apartment with such a great view of capitol records? I have nothing against them , they never pissed me off as, well I am not an American recording star, lets face it if i was i wouldn't be wasting my time leaving comments here where no -one likes me, I'd be too busy getting off with porn stars etc, csi actors etc, buying thousands of stripey socks whatever other purposeless activities wealthy American rockstars engage in, But, you are in a very good position for sniper gunning. You can see into quite a few windows from there. Take aim... and fire.
