El Cid

(photo: Wendybird) Just got home from the El Cid show. Christopher David Lisk and Jordan Helman (the blog and Dark Matter winners)... Did everything go OK? I saw Wendybird front and center so I know she got in. The show went really well... During Then She Did, some kind of ghost invaded the circuitry in my amp and pretty much shut it down. We managed to get through it thanks to Dan, my tech, and the skills of my band mates. With Perkins and Avery as the rhythm section, things just keep moving along regardless of any technical issue. After Then She Did, Perry's amazing ability to captivate any room allowed him to engage the audience for 5-10 minutes while my equipment was being repaired. Once Dan solved the issue, we were back in the swing. The set was: Whores, Trip Away, Standing in the Shower, Mountain, Ain't No Right, No One's Leaving, Then She Did, 1%, Stop, Had A Dad, Ocean, Chip Away- There were rumors online that the show was for friends and family only... That was NOT the case. Here is the call I made to El Cid when I found this out on Dark Matter:

Call to El Cid

I know that some people didn't make it in, but overall the night was much smoother than the La Cita show in terms of getting the fans in. Wristbands were handed out to the people waiting in line during the day to assure entry. I have to hand it to our management team and crew for seeing to our concerns about this.

The whole night really felt like the old days... the music, the line up, the fans, christmas lights, candles, a hot little club, things breaking down on stage, the entire audience singing along with every word of the set... What a spectacular way to spend a Thursday night! Thank you to everyone who came down to support us. A few people have asked about the posters that were handed out. I'll see if I can scrape a couple up and give them out on Dark Matter next Wednesday. They really are beautiful.

BTW: Tomorrow, J Mello and I are playing in Orange County at The Shark Club 841 Baker St. Costa Mesa, CA 92626 - I have Kim + 1, who called into the show last week, on the list. I can add two more people if anyone here is in the area and interested.

Got it! Ryan Ramon Valdes + 1, Andrew Jarrin + 1, Amber Horner + 1 - See you guys tomorrow

Dave,
the show was Incredible.sorry about your marshall taking a dump during "then she Did".
i love the punk attitude you're taking with the louis vuitton strap!!
with avery back there is some definite synergy happening.
anyone notice that dave is back on stage right and using the old ibanez rg series again?
thats cool, it adds to the "olden days" feel.
BTW,what ever happened to those panic channel buckles?

Dave,

First of all, I'd like to thank Jane's Addiction for possibly the best show in the history of live music. (I may be slightly biased.) I was the guy to whom you handed your drumsticks after "Chip Away." Thank you for the icing on one hell of a cake evening. ;)

Photographers and videographers (Brendon, Jon, and Wendybird - this means you!) please post your footage as soon as you can. My crappy iPhone pictures just don't do the show justice.

Word up to all my homies from the line: Michelle, Brian, Jon, Dave... chance of a lifetime, huh? ;)

Sounds like the show was incredible. That pic is so beautiful the color looks amazing…must be a Wendy Bird pic right?

Your teams rocks DN.. Wristbands given to ensure entrance… There you go again…TAKING CARE OF THE FANS.

I have one question before I go…if you intend to give posters away on DM next week…Can u save us one? It would look soooo pretty next to the other one.

But on a serious note…We are able to win twice on the show right? Miracles do happen on Dark Matter…

By the way, I meant to mention this before... if anyone who has pictures or video would be willing to share the uncompressed (huge!) versions, I will gladly seed them indefinitely on Bittorrent, to help reduce bandwith costs. Of course, only if Dave and crew don't mind us sharing. ;)

Thanks for hooking me up for tomorrow night Dave! I really appreciate it. Would it be possible for Jane's to play at least one more small venue show, or a few?! I was one of the many who wasn't able to get a wristband on Thursday night. To have seen you play Stop, Whores, & Oceansize up close would've been a gift! To quote Anthony Michael Hall in Edward Scissorhands I'd give my left nut to see you guys play in a small club!

Much love & respect

holy shit........in a word. perfect. that was a great experience. i had a trifecta birthday bash with my favorite asian and the brothers from nor-cal. i have been waiting since 91 to see you guys with eric avery again and it could not have been smoother. even when your guitar went out the show was still impressive. a large man ate half of my poster but i was able to retain another. thank you very much for the experience it was again perfect.

That call to El Cid was awesome haha. Good to hear that the show went great and things went smoother than La Cita. I'm now waiting for the footage that will surface (That's one KICKASS setlist) and I think I agree with everyone when I say that it is wonderful how you treat us fans. Downloading the Dark Matter podcast now and this WEEK I will be able to listen because I'm now on Thanksgiving break from school :-D lol. Hope you have a wonderful weekend Dave and congrats to those who were able to attend the show and will be seeing you and J Mello tomorrow night.

Much love and respect,

I floated through my day..the luckiest girl in the world.Thank you ,Thank you, Thank you!

Dave -

A thousand thanks for what was undoubtedly the most memorable and amazing show I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. As I'm sure anyone who was there knows, this was no typical rock show, but rather a slamming party full of die-hard fans looking to get down. My friend Adam and I got in the door with no problems, and after throwing back a few cocktails and hanging with new friends, were absolutely blown away but what transpired right in front of us.

Having seen (and enjoyed) the band play with Flea, Martyn, and Chris over the years, it was amazing to see and hear Jane's as it was always meant to be. The setlist was full of beautiful tunes we haven't heard from this band in decades, and the performance was second to none. You guys killed it - firing on all cylinders. I could sit here and go on about how tight Eric and Steve were, or how Perry's voice and presence were the best I've ever seen him, or how you brought a ferocity to your playing that nobody can touch, but let's just put it this way:

There are a lot of great acts coming out around these parts, but in a time when nothing's shocking, its pretty damn unbelievable that the best band in Los Angeles, and the world, is once again Jane's Addiction.

Thanks again for the hook-up and best of luck in whatever it is the four of you have up your sleeves for the future.

Jordan Helman

Well, i don't know much about your band, but I love reading your blogs about you getting back together. It reminds me of an old Aboriginal philosophy....this half Aboriginal man told me many Aboriginal paintings have circles or a circular flow to them because Aboriginals believe that ultimately life moves in circles. It must feel like full circle that you are playing with your old band again. Mind you, this man also informed me I was only attractive in a certain light when I had had a few drinks, and I needed to lose weight, so I don't know whether to take what he said TOO seriously. Hopefully, my life will not move in a circular motion towrds HIM again!

Dave, it's really great the way you've reached out to your fans, and that you're concerned about whether or not they got into the show.

Amber and Sweets, have fun tonight!!

That is such a weird coincidence Karen talking about the wilderness, because I was just reading about the jesus tempted in the wilderness last night. This bible version I am reading is good because it is in modern language. Its really got some common sense in it. I used to try reading it when younger but couldn't really get past all the bazaar old fashioned words, so and so was son so of so and so blah blah etc. However, this bible does say several times wives should submit to their husbands which I can't really agree with, also Paul (I think) seems to have a big thing against homosexuality snd lesbianism. (I'm not a lesbian but I fancy that female on the Jane's addiction poster). Also... get this... if you check the small print right at the back of thebible ...it says..... p.s. people who direct pornography films will go.. straight to HELL!!!! Jking! ha. I'd say see you there but I'll be going to heaven. I'll wave down though.

Show was short, and VERY sweet! Unfortunately, the bastard door guy made SassyCC and I put our cameras in the car, so there's no pics or videos to share with you guys. :( But never fear...CF December Madness is coming up, and you know I'll be posting a stream of greatness each week for you guys!

I am so happy to hear you guys are rocking out together again! Hopefully there will be more shows down the road. I missed this one. But I'm just so happy for guys for putting the past beside yourselves and being true to your roots and loyal fans.

The Enit Festival on November 22, 1997 will always be one of my finest memories in my life. Thank you so much! I had so much fun with the Genie, Massage, and Jam rooms. It was like Lolla finally met Burning Man. The Crash Worship show and then Enit. What an amazing week for my friends and I.

Please.

See ya around my friend. May we all rock out together again soon!

The footage posted on youtube was wonderful and the quality is pretty good as well. If anyone has a longer video of Then She Did... could you please post it? That's one of my favorite Jane's song if not my favorite... beautiful song. Love the guitar in it (even if it did go out in the middle).

One hell of a show... I wasn't even there haha.

that's funny i was reading the part in the bible on sunday that said someone found ''a pearl of great value it was sooooooooooooo goooooooooood they had to sell everything they owned to get that pearl'' then i saw that damn belt buckle posted up again and thought jesus i never knew the bible would have me concentrating so hard on dave navarro's crotch haha wondering if i have to sell all my earthly possessions and get on a plane to L.A. and get myself to the next J.A.gig because god is trying to give me a direct message go straight to heaven- DN'S LOWER NETHER REGIONS ha! OK GOD WOTEVA YOU SAY!...actually perry i think has some jewish connection he seems right into the old testament ''the torah'' a hebrew thing hence the exodus and wilderness references on the 3 days dvd where moses was when he received the 10 commandments...why perry is talking to a hebrew priest in the 3 days dvd bout scripture and law but i'm born again so it's a new covenant now i don't worry bout who begot who begot who and who begot them...was very tiresome i just skipped the first part headed right into the new testament...just fucking love each other...nice n easy 2 commandments the 10 were too difficult for everybody it confused them and the new two superseded them whilst encompassing them...i love dave's belt buckle mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...keep up the goodwork wendy bird that guy's torso is a goddamn work of art...xo

Rob- When I tried to post this morning (afternoon lol) it kept logging me out when I would click on Post. Then I'd put in my info again @ typekey and it would bring me back here to enter comment, but the same thing just happened again. Then it went thru the 3rd time. It happened the other day too...it seems kinda hit and miss lately for some reason. Hope that made some kind of sense! :)

--Ok and now when I just tried to send this comment it said blah blah "you must be logged in to comment, click here to login" or whatever that 67 default error page says. I entered my info and it said invalid twice, and now it has taken it on the 3rd try and brought me to a blacked out page with only the usernames showing unless I highlight the page. Then I can see the comments. Hopefully this posts!

Hey D,
How are you?
I have just finished checking out the Shepard Fairley site, OMG it is sooooo Cool.
The posters you have been giving away are going for like a squillion dollars.MAD.
What a treasured item....
I so wish i was closer, Bugger the poster the gig would be the alt.
I have also just finished reading " Don't try this at home"
I was captivated, I read it in like 2 nights and I can so relate to the book but also on another level.
It was shocking, sad, funny, happy, it was just about every emotion i could imagine.
Scary too. I am not sure how i would be able to handle fame. You would have to grow into it. People stalking me would freak me out. I suppose chatting over the internet is harmless. It is a way of telling the person or persons you have a connection with, that you appreciate them and enjoy what they do for you in their lives. rather selfish really. But never the less "harmless".
You have touched me with your book and it is nice to see that you are still here today to be able to share you wonderful talent with the world and make it a much better place for me.
I am sure that the people that write to you on this site also feel the same.
Keep doing what you do best Mr Navarro and I hope you get a chance to read this blog.
Love S...xxx
