Dark Matter Tonight

Bobby Heinson +1 and Jim Scolastico +1 - See you in Portland OR on Wed Dec 3rd at The Refectory.

Finally, LA has some rain and overcast skies and it actually feels like November around here. We had definitely been seeing the results of global warming as temperatures reached the low 90s earlier this month. On some days it felt like the end of the world was upon us, especially with all the smoke in the air from the fires. A little weather is a most welcomed event this Thanksgiving. Tonight on Dark Matter (Wed 12a-2a Indie 103.1FM) we have an in studio performance from Grace & Manners. We will also, of course, be taking your calls throughout the show at 877-900-1031. I was able to get a few of the Jane's Addiction El Cid posters so I will be giving those out on the show as well as several pairs of tickets for the upcoming Camp Freddy residency at The Roxy this December.

Dan, my tech, and I got to the bottom of the issue with with my guitar cutting out during Then She Did the other night. BAD CABLE! We got in touch with Hugh over at Planet Waves and they are seeing to it that this never happens again. Thanks Hugh! "Somewhere along the line I have developed a habit of spinning around onstage and running beyond my cable length, two things that will destroy a cable for sure... And I have destroyed hundreds over my career. Cables usually decide to give out right in the middle of a song in front of a live audience, as if they have a mind of their own. I have tried countless wireless devices, but I prefer the confidence and non radio interference of connectivity with a cable. I now insist on using Planet Waves cables. Durable, dependable and crafted especially for players who are just as hard on their gear as much as they need to rely on it."

Speaking of gear. I have been asked about the need for two delay pedals. One is simply for delay and the other is only used for sweeping regeneration noise. I really only use the second one once in a blue moon. As for the first? Clearly I use THAT as much as possible!

You guys REALLY needed rain out there....badly!

When I went out to LA to see CF at the Roxy back in May your guitar went out during either the first or second song. The band played on while Dan was crouching around the stage checking the connections to your pedal board, amp etc.. he looked like he was sweating a little. You didn't look pissed but was not pleased. Not at Dan but that your guitar crapped out....and also turned out to be a bad wire from the guitar to amp. Wire replaced. All was good. :-)

Have a fantastic Thanksgiving! Try and keep the nuts in check! :-p

Great post - and thank you for the phone number to call in to Dark Matter. Loving the timing - much easier to catch you live :)
Happy Thanksgiving, hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Yeah man, cables can be so nefarious! It's at the point where I suspect them first, pretty much. Plus with Planet Waves, I believe they have this lifetime warranty so we (non-famous Guitarists even, lol) can take those dead ones + reciept and get free replacements. I've had other cables that just didn't crap out live though... Eventualy they all are over one day. No doubt!

So weird to read a gear oriented post from you. Normaly you're the I-don't-talk-gear guy! :)

The bad cable Kinda Makes sense.
but why your clean channel kept working
but not the dirty?or was the dirty channel working just kinda shorting out?
I agree with using a cable as the signal is way stronger.
with wireless system its hard to keep intentional feedback going without having to walk and live inside your cab.=)
after looking at your strap upclose at EL CID i had to make 1 for myself.came out Friggin' kewl.
Have a great Turkey day Dave!!

Check out the Strap!!

Isn't it nice to finally have some weather!?! Being from northern Cali and having lived in Oregon for a couple years, I have really missed the rain! Bring it on...

I hope everyone has a beautiful Thanksgiving tomorrow. Besides being thankful for the tix DN has been hooking up lately (seeing Jane's at La Cita was the highlight of my year!), I'm so very grateful for the friendships I've found in the 67 family. I love you guys!

XOXO

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the great recent shows with Jane's.

Well it seems like you're pretty much into the Planet Waves cables but I wanted to mention this brand called Evidence Audio (and no I don't work for them!). They are probably the most expensive cables you will ever buy (around $100 each) but man they are KILLER. They open up so much sound in your guitar that you never even knew was there ...it's mind blowing. To anyone who says that guitar cables don't matter they simply haven't heard these. If you have ever seen Pink Floyd play live then you will know what they sound like as they are used exclusively by David Gilmour and he's a huge fan of them. Anyway I've never heard of one these cables "going bad"...ever. Just my two cents... Keep rockin Dave!!!

Dave, while some of the stuff you do is suspect...you are without a doubt my favorite fuckin guitarist of all time. a fucking legend. please do whatever it takes to keep janes rolling right now, im DYING to see you guys all together....i know you posted a comment saying the east coast was questionable...but manhattan and miami? are you kidding!...how bout BOSTON!.. I have a bootleg of you guys playing at "TT the bears" when perry broke his leg...ive listened to it atleast once a month for the last 5 years....to rekindle that or something similar in this area would be the greatest night of my life....please consider.

wired 4 sound and light on your feet i was listening to the convo with metal sanaz on livesync...so you move with a bit of dexterity and you aren't clumsy;)i knew that ha the dance of the seven cables rather than the seven veils...i love watching guitarists that move around stage a lot it adds a lil more impetus and momentum to the stageshow ...music and movement should intermingle and intertwine maybe not a cable round your ankle though:)no trip wires...light as a gazelle...you swirl a lot...poetry in motion sweetness overcoming the confines of your materials breeds excellence in alacrity and all art...xo and you look real sexy too breaking cables

Dave,

We're soo hurt. Listened to Dark Matter tonight, spoke with you on air (tortilla boy from L.A.) - asked for a poster (denied). Called back endlessly (left VM's as, "beautiful butterfly" - guess that didn't work), then spoke w/ the gal on the phone she said you'd be asking trivia questions, waited patiently inline (as I did for the La Cita show); but was denied AGAIN when you JUST GAVE the posters away... =(... Called back, managed to chat w/ the gal on the phone again and there was nothing for us.. Was working on getting a poster for my wife's 33rd - we're LONG time fans (like forever - tortilla tossing days babe! ;-)

Can you hook up my wife? You'd love her, she HOT (even after two beautiful kids! ;-)

Well I just caught the end of your show, i do love Trent reznor, I am interested to hear you are planning to direct a new porn film entitled "religious release," but, sorry to tell you thats already been done! Those priests and nuns are real sex fiends when they get together. I herd about this priest describing having sex with nun and he complained that her cross kept banging against his chest.

I am sorry to hear that you live in a moral free landscape,I think now I should quote a passage from the bible......or perhaps i should just go to work now...broadband broadband broadband
