(Me & J Mello at Versus soundcheck)
1. How's your weekend going?
The weekend was great! Saturday night I was in Downtown LA again to play a show at the opening of Versus Night Club with my friends, DJ Skribble, DJ Slynkee and J Mello. In fact, J Mello and I are doing a couple of acoustic shows with our first date on Saturday November 1st at a place called VIVID in San Jose. I suppose it's considered part of the Halloween Weekend even though it's the first day of November. Sunday I took off and caught up on all the election coverage. Last night at the Key Club... I joined The Darling Stilettos (managed by Matt Sorum) for a quick AC/DC song before the Steel Panther show.
2. At several points during the show you gave Eric wide eyed looks and at one point mouthed "WOW!" What was running through your mind during that set?
So much! Even though we hadn't performed together in a live setting for many many years, it is amazing how the ability to communicate across the stage with a simple look or word comes back as though no time has passed. The "wow" you are asking about probably conveyed a few things: 1. This is amazing to be playing together with the full line up again. 2. It's fuckin loud in here. Can you hear yourself OK? 3. This little room really feels like the old days in a profoundly great way. 4. Don't you love how close the audience is? 5. Watch your head! Low ceiling! 6. $150,000 on clothes? Is she kidding with that?
3. When's the last time you've listened to a Jane's album completely through?
Hmmm. That's hard to say. I am more of an iTunes/iPod shuffle guy so I don't think I have listened to anything all the way through for quite some time. Generally I will skip when something I have worked on comes on but only because I always have memories and emotional connections to the songs. When I am in the music listening mood, I like the memories and emotions of other artists to add to my day.
4. When I listen to any version of Mountain Song that was recorded after 86-91 era, you seem to somehow copy the bass lines with your guitar as opposed to NS or Kettle Whistle versions where the guitar riff is a lot more stretched out.
Do you find it better sounding that way ?
Interesting, I never noticed! Hold on lemme listen and see what you are talking about... OK. I a/b'ed the demo version and the NS version and the NS version is certainly more produced and aggressive... Actually, when I play the song live now, I am doubling the bass line even more than on the demo version with the strumming during the riff. I guess I love both versions but the demo version will always be my personal favorite.
5. Wondered if you directed your second adult movie? What happened with that?
No, I put that on the back burner for now. Todd and I have embarked on an entirely different film project that will require a lot of time and patience so I more than likely won't get to that till next year sometime, if at all.

Am I first?? Did ya'll know Dr. Pepper is giving out free sodas in conjunction with the release of Guns' long awaited new album (cd...i just gave away my age!). I think CEO is huge fan and 8 or 9 years ago he made a promise to give out free Dr.Pepper if the band would make another album and he's keeping his word. Anyway, for those of you who like the Dr., I'm not sure, but I think there will be vouchers inside the cd or something.

Thank you for answering DN, you are adorable, sounds like a wicked weekend, good on you :)
As for the new film project, that is just enough detail to tease - you and Todd work brilliantly together, can't wait to hear more about what you're upto. Is it a 'serious' project? Ok, ok, I will wait (im)patiently for when you're ready to reveal.
Also, loved the answer to the "wow" question, so funny and true about how much can be communicated to close friends who understand without the need for actual sentences. ps: Who was wearing what for that much lol...
Wishing you a great week.

6. "$150,000 on clothes? Is she kidding with that?"
Dave, thanks for the laugh. I imagine your wardrobe costs far less than that, seeing you don't have many shirts! xoxo

Ahhh... I do love the way lil luna writes "y'all..."it brings back such happy memories of my old texan housemate...
Anyway if Dave Navarro is still answering questions what is going with his love life? Has he got a regular flame he is fond of at present, or just loads as usual?

ok answers #5 and 6 to the "WOW" question actually made me laugh outloud at my desk!!
Eric is a tall MF'er isn't he?

Hey Pa, Hope your doing well! …November 1st, "Dia De Los Muertos"…Usually on that day my family (on my moms side) gets together at the cemetery, drink a few while the Mariachi’s serenade the gravesites of my Grandpa Julian and my 2 uncles in honor of their death and its that time already…
This new project you and Todd are working on…Does that have any connection with the IFC or Sundance project …”The Underworld with Dave Navarro” Just checking…I also probably said somewhere that I wouldn’t ask again…but you know how that goes…
Hope you have a great Helloween, Be safe, and God Bless…..Love ya!

Hey Dave, Honored you used my photo on the front page. ( feel famous and am actually giving myself my own autograph.)
Is there/was there ever a studio version of Whores?
If you guys do record new stuff or need something extra special for the box set...that would do it for me.
Cheers,

First of all, thanks Dave for answering my question, it always makes me feel just a little bit special when you get one of mine so something that small, can make my day... yeah, I'm a loser haha :)
Thanks for the laugh to. Yeah, that Sarah Palin is just like you and me... $150,000, that isn't shit to me, matter of fact, I make sure I go to school looking cool and I spend at least that much if not more... in another life. Not to add that the taxpayers of Alaska were paying for Palin's kids’ transportation when she was governor to name a few things.... what a maverick.
Now I'm also interested in the project that you and Todd have been working on for some time, I remember you bought it up some time ago so it must be one hell of a project... must be some good stuff, can't wait to see what it is when it comes together.
Hope you enjoy your week and take care!
Much Love and Respect,
-Kirsten

can't belive the elections almost over, thank god for that and nervous at the same time...only time will tell, my ballots in in Oregon...
texted a bunch of friends in SJ about your show... tis my hometown (east side) love and hate that city at the same time... sigh, i'll be there in spirit now if it was sometime between 12/23-12/29 i would be in the area... but caught up w/ family that i just don't get to see often enough, might move back down after i graduate from LPN school and ride out the 16months i have left for my BSN down there... my dad has a heart problems and is now 65 which scares me and for the past two years out the 6 i've been in oregon i got the whole winter/seasonal blues- so i'll see how i do this year, but might be back down next fall... time will tell... have a good time in my 'ole hood and hopefully some of my friends will make it to your show on the 1st! have a happy halloween! the best, amy

Lil Luna, So SORRY- I really want CHANGE in this country!! KISSES TO YOU!
I too am ready for the election to be over..and Bush to be out of office.
Seen "W" last weekend, interesting take on the prez although, I think they could have elaborated on his tough times more. I learned more about his life before his taking office. Great job by all the actors.
Happy Halloween all! Besos,Db

Hi Dave,
So the San Jose show will be acoustic? That should be interesting.
As I was using my best internet search skills to find out where you would be playing with Jane's, I found this show and got so excited that you'll be in the Bay Area. I bought GA tickets because that's all I can afford. But what do you say? Can you help a 38yo recent divorcee start her second life as an aging groupie? I think I'll look cute in my costume ;) Well, maybe I'll give the costume contest a try. I'll just be happy if you drip sweat on me.
Can't wait to see you play. Hope you have a great show.

Dude,
6767 continues to kick ass. I am/was totally stoked to learn of the new JA action going down with all the OG players, so rad!!! Thanks for the clip too, very cool! I'm glad I took the time to catch up with your site.
Also dope to read about the project Todd and yourself have brewing. I am a fan of the shit you two conduct, especialy when such projects are void of the corporate/sponsor influence. The earliest episodes of Spread at the Dragonfly are still my favourites. I am not feeling the current clip format with gum ads... At least that gum tastes good though... LOL ... Hopefully Spread'll get back to the hour/full show format one day, provided it continues that is.
All the best with all you do,
xo

Hey Dave, I was on Guitar World's forum and one of the most requested songs to be transcribed by the magazine currently is Three Days. I was wondering why haven't Nothing's Shocking and Ritual been tablatured by Hal Leonard or another sheet music company considering how guitar driven the albums are? Thank you and keep up the great work with this site and your other endeavours!

mister DN- been contemplating if you ever get up to pdx w/ JA i would love to hear you guys rip out mountain song- i know- how un-orginal- but i would. i remember listening to that over and over when i was 9, yes, nine, and i loved it. then i remember listening to TNO after i left my ex fiance- ugh...
he was a bad guy... your solo helped me- i know, your like great...thats supposed to make me feel better- it should- no details- but thanks, seriously thanks ;) i went through a lot that year and TNO was my fav, sounds weird from some SCI/WSP chick but that was my album/disc, i'll shut up now...
to all people that think obama is a liberal- dude, he isn't... if we don't pull this off... KUCINICH '012/obama. i wanted kucinich to be obama's vp but that was to far to the left- i'm happy w/ biden.

I was just reading... that Gary Numan married... a FAN... and then... they had babies! so there is HOPE for all your fans Dave! I'm checking out wedding dresses NOW! Nooo, damn we can't get married, I have way too many skeletons that the press would expose, and well i just don't think i would adjust well to the celebrity lifestyle.
Now you are a godfather you could be looking up baby games to play now on the internet! Loads of them they are fun! But don't get your face too close and frighten the poor little thing.

Howlin Wolf, there is tab for Jane's, it's "Best of". I have it but I don't think Three Days is on it so I don't see how they can call it Best of.

I'd have to agree with Spencer's comments above about Spread. I'm still a fan of the old Dragonfly shows and the smaller interviews are not doing it for me as much - not that they are bad it's just the live hour shows were "more than the sum of their parts" type of thing. Also having recently watched about 30 mini episodes back to back, I will never buy any of that gum on principle because I am sick of those bloody adverts.

PS - Tiffanybean, you've been posting on and off here for a while now but recently you've been spreading abuse far and wide with free abandon. Is this an attention thing or can you not help yourself?

Sue, yes I have that book too and going thru the songs you'll find out just how proficient Dave is at guitar! This guy is a fantastic player no doubt. Well I was just wondering why they never released full tab books of Jane's albums cause that would have been so cool for a person trying to learn Dave's parts and lots of the famous bands, for eg. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, always had official full album tabs. So why not Jane's? :)

however...as much as I think you have a terrific singing voice..."He's an excellent, versatile guitarist, and can sing like Scott Weiland."
Um. No way. :-p

That's a good article Robin, so thanks for sharing.
I don't know why but I thought it was funny that they talked about your eyebrows and facial hair... "His prominently arched eyebrows," yeah you do have some nice eyebrows... some people try to give their eyebrows that "perfect arch" all the time but you don't have to do anything, it's just natural :p.
Anyways, I do think you downplay your singing/voice too much though because you do have a wonderful voice and I think you should showcase it more (I'd personally love to hear it at least) whether it's through backup vocals or whatever. I'd love to hear you do another record but if that doesn't happen, hell, do some cover songs with Camp Freddy with you on vocals. However, I also wouldn't put you in the same category of Scott Weiland and that isn't in an insulting matter but you and Scott's voices aren't even in the same category if you ask me. That's like comparing Cornell to Barry White... different category but I do love your vocals. Guitar playing.... meh, not so much (I'm kidding of course).

feminine with a moder8 amount of charisma...;)ha well how much does the external chit chatter of the world matter to you...i tend to ignore the static out there being involved with creative energies sort of lifts you above the melee of the media...as an artist you don't allow the outside world to impinge on your own validity or you'd never create anything substantial...you cordon off your heart mind and soul from negative opinions, evaluations, intrusions, it's like the police tape they use but it says''god's line do not cross'' i have to use it daily or else i'd be like britney in a mental institute by now shaving my head and tattooing 666 on it;)sing anyway you want play your instrument any way you want tell every fukka to get off @ the next station;)you're doin fine you married a goddess you created music that will stand the test of time you made a bit of porn to entertain the wankers you look good in leather ...hell what more do they want?...oh yeah that's right arched eyebrows perfectly plucked...smile jesus loves you xxx

Errrrr, in the article mentioned above Dave you were described as "moderately charismatic" and an "interestingly shaped moon"!!? I'm not sure whether they are bizarre compliments or insults! Of course my mind working the way it does immediately thought of mooning out a bus window rather than a celestial body.
Ooooooh, a name change because of security reasons Lil'Luna, sounds exciting!!! Your cover was blown?....... Yep, idiot comments appear regularly, but when it keeps going I sometimes get curious, other times I couldn't give a shit. Ultimately it's Dave's site and under his control.

Interesting article, a little weird though--at first I thought a woman was writing it with all the physical references ;)
I always laugh when they write about your "brief tenure", five years w/the RHCP doesn't seem too brief to me. and I thought it was really weird that they didn't mention the Jane's reunion, unless they wrote that before last week.
Have a good time :) all the time...

SB-actually, my cover WAS blown! But that's a story for another day! Because this is DAVE'S site, I think people should be mindful of that and respect the others that visit and post on his blog. How can you say you love THE MASTER yet be hateful to his children? And if you hate Americans and "Americanisms" so much, what the hell are you doing on an American blog? I think someone feels like by being outrageously rude and evil they will attract our Master's attention, but he is not that kind of guy and I doubt he finds it attractive.

i liked the interesting moon comment the best it reminded me of the crescent moon shape in the TPC logo...and the pic of DN sitting naked on the concrete with the candles and the logo drawn up he looks like he's in some trance like contemplation...very serene...lunar energy is a lovely thing...tidal flow...the ebb of life sometimes it's high sometimes it's low...the moon yeah maybe it's a naked butt in full regalia but maybe it's something that orbits around us all affecting our emotions...sheer lunacy to think otherwise;)australia well we are like your lil brother or sister america we follow you everywhere in and out of world wars 2 getha i mean brothers in arms got a lot more in common than trick or treat haha MASH is on tv now hawkeye...sweat blood n tears 4 u guyz ha...only thing we haven't in common is gun laws our music scene is predominantly americanised as is our media...but i adore all american music culture especially the west coast bands...i love LA they should build me a lil baywatch tower to hang out in...xoxo
