Interview with director Adam Rifkin

To drs:

Although I am not aware of the situation that you outlined in your post, I apologize for anything I may have done to upset you or your girlfriend. I try to go out of my way to be pretty accessible to the people who support us. Hope you guys can forgive me if I upset you but at this point that's all I can ask for.

Dave, you're such a decent person bless you. Have a lovely weekend. And that was a great interview, but I already said that on myspace! xoxox

Awww, poor Dave. Your damned if ya do, and damned if ya don't, arn't ya petal.
Must be sooo hard sometimes!! But I'm sure your've had worse than just a tap on the shoulder!! Unfortunate, but shit happens. Really sweet of you to apologize.
Maybe, at that time, you were just worried someone was going to try and emulate Chrissie's preformance?? Heeheehee, sorry, couldn't help it. That still has me giggling!
Seriously though, I hope that makes drs and his girlfriend feel a tad better. Just bad timing. But Dave, if it had been me.....no worries there, doubt I'd be able to utter an intelligible sentence, let-alone a tap on the shoulder!!! lol

Wishing you all a awesome weekend

I usually do my commenting on Myspace but after seeing this had to throw my 2 cents in. I just wanted to say there is NO way that Dave acted as if he was above anyone. Thats one of the reason we love him because he is so fan oriented and down to earth. When Yoli and I met him in Houston, Texas when he was playing with scribble he was the best. I mean we laughed afterwards cause he gave us all the attention when we were talking to him. I told Yoli you know these hot little barely legal girls that are having to wait are wondering whats up with Dave and these 2 fat chicks! Dave was the best!!! I know he would never have done this intentionally! Sorry that happened drs but i know in my heart it wasnt intentional. Dave isnt that kind of person! Have a great one and for our friends reading this Dolly brought some bad rain and flooding but we were in San Antonio at Cruefest , oblivious to what was going on back at home! The kids where at the hotel with my mom! So we are all great!!! God Bless and Have a great week all!!!

XOXOXO

You know what DN...Your such a great guy that’s why we all love you so much...not to mention you rock that guitar and uh…are not bad looking...ha

The apology you posted above...BIG HEART DN…. HUGE! But we already knew that and now the DRS know that too.

Hope your doing great, having fun and making lots and lots of money...:) Have a safe trip to Dallas today… I so fucking wish Mar and I could be there…oh well….Be safe pa and God Bless.

DRS
i just want to tell you that people have off nights. when i met Dave he was nothing but kind to me. i have a radio station at college and Dave and the entire Panic Channel were nice enough to sit down with my co-host and myself and do a 1/2 hour interview before they were set to go on stage at radio city music hall. the gang could not have been nicer in particular Dave. he was one of the nicest people i have ever met and when people backstage were getting a little too loud Dave himself asked them to please be quite and showed my co-host and I nothing but the upmost respect for two at the time 18 year old college kids. i just wanted to share that story with you and to thank you Dave and let you know if you are interested i have the entire interview on my itunes if you would like me to send it to you please let me know and email me at jonathan.fast@quinnipiac.edu

Ohhhhh how lovely to read all these nice comments about Dave!

Still doesn't explain why he DELETED my myspace!

Posted by: clarebanan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2008 02:00 PM

Well, if it is any comfort Clare, he deleted my myspace as well, clearly such comments as "you were much better looking when you were younger," And "Nice face shame about the hair." were not deemed supportive. Oh well. See you on myspace. At least I still have YOU as a myspace friend! And Tom of course.

Dave,

We understand you have a million fans and we were not expecting any special treatment. But from our point of view there was a lot of preparation for my girlfriend and I to attend the show. Imagine our excitement, adrenaline, and just the fun we were anticipating. Being my birthaday we were just so ready to have a good time. If you would have done that to me it would have been no big deal but she is such a huge fan of yours and was let down but the guy she really admires. It upset me because I'm so in love with this woman and I know it was my birthday but I was really fosused on her having a good time. Although the show was great and we did what we could to make the best of it, it just sucked because I could tell she was a bit sad and dissapointed. I guess it would be like if you hand the chance to see Hendrix and he blew you off. How would you feel? Although you don't recall the situation I thank you for the apology. I will tell my girlfriend though I doubt she'll believe me but the apology is appreciated.

drs,

You felt your girlfriend's anticipation/disappointment so deeply, that it moved you to post about it.

I think that your girlfriend is lucky to have such an empathetic boyfriend.

So Dave graciously acknowleged you, apologizes and your still complaining?
Accept the man's apology and save the complaints for party conversation.

Ok, Robin, I am not a huge commenter here, though I've done it enough since this blog restarted. But, I lost my cookies when I read your "save the complaints..." Well done.

Hi drs, I know this is a bit off the topic, and this is my last comment before I get blocked or something but I am really dying to know what drs stands for. Is it for e.g. your first, middle and last name? Or does it stand for your girlfriend's emotions surrounding the whole Dave affair? E.g - devastated, rejected, sad? Honestly I really feel for your girlfriend, thats so awful it nearly makes me cry, I almost can't bear to read it, but I reckon you should show her the apology Dave wrote. And if you could just leave a comment to put me out of my misery as to knowing what DRS stands for that would be great. Although, obviously don't if it involves revealing personal information that could enable people to identify you in real life, and you want to remain anonymous.

I think the reason I ask is because it reminds me of the initials DLR which I am always seeing in london..but thses stand for "Docklands Light Railway."

Posted by: tiffanybean [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 26, 2008 01:02 PM

I think the very fact that Dave READS HIS FANS COMMENTS - and found out about drs - AND DEDICATED HIS WHOLE LAST POST TO THIS - is enough to show that whatever happened is meaningless.
Dave - thanks for being a true, salt of the earth person.

CRIKEY 'DRS', Dave apologised to you personally how can you still be whining? As for your girlfiend so she doesn't have web access or can't read? Actually don't bother answering, truly - I'm not interested. There's no pleasing some people.

Posted by: vixen [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 26, 2008 03:32 PM

First of all, maybe Dave deleted people because of the negativity. There’s enough of that in the world, myspace especially. Just a hunch.

Second, why in the world do people expect anything more of Dave than a great performance when they go see him? I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him many times and he’s always been great, super-friendly and kind, but I don’t EXPECT that. Maybe he had things going on, maybe he was distracted or just MAYBE he was startled that someone reached out and touched him, that’s a normal reaction. And yes, some people travel far to see him, but that doesn’t mean he should be expected to have to chat up every fan that comes to a show. I (along with two other family members here) flew 3000 miles each way in May to see Dave with Camp Freddy. The day that Dave agrees to a prearranged meet and greet is the day you should “expect” to receive anything other than an amazing onstage performance. Give the guy a break, he apologized.

I'll say it again....Damned if ya do, Damned it ya don't!
God, it must absolutely suck sometimes trying to please the masses. But a least you try, and I'm sure that can't be said for most. I think it's amazing that you ARE so accessible to your fans. Would have loved this when I was a wee 12 yr old teeny bopper... being able to post to the likes of Duran Duran!! heeehee But obviously, of course, it's WAY better (and some-what, cooler) to be able to post to you!

On the subject of the whole touching of one's person....(If your doing a Sun 10 by any chance)
What would be the most personally intrusive encounter your've experienced with a fan? Physical or verbal. Just curious, as I'm sure you would have quite a few bizarre tales to tell!

Take care

drs was quick to react to something that he felt unjustly happened to his girlfriend.

Which is similar to some the responses here, no? People reacting to something they feel wasn't justified.

We all protect the people we care about, and sometimes in doing so, our emotions get the best of us.

Sure, drs' post may have judged Dave's alleged action, but read between the lines, he was really trying to cope with his girlfriend's disappointment.

Just my two cents.

DRS, you are such a whiny baby! Boohoo, your girl didn't get to say hi to Dave Navarro. Navarro is so much higher on the food chain than you and your lame girlfriend. She probably weighs 500 lbs and disgusted the hell out of him. He's used to being around porn stars & super models, do you think he'd acknowledge your nasty girlfriend and her clawing paws? Neither of you had any right to invade his personal space without his consent and should be banned from attending his shows forever.

Posted by: cittadina [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 26, 2008 07:37 PM

Of your post Cittadina, all I have to say is WOW- can you spell SHALLOW?

You must be God to judge. People come in all shapes and sizes and do not NEED to be models for rock stars to pay attention. Some, like Dave have more intelligence than to think like that.

All I have to say for you is mark my words, KARMA is a bitch.........remember what you just wrote!

Posted by: Danni from ND [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 26, 2008 11:21 PM

Cittadina, the whole point drs was making is that Dave is NOT higher up on the food chain, he plays guitar; others are nurses or work in Mcdonalds, we all have a role to play and ALL those roles come with hassles, e.g when working in Mcdonalds you have to be polite to people you can't stand all day and wear an embarassing uniform. I really do think we should go back to the 16th century old days when entertainers weren't paid all that much and regarded as working class citizens just doing a job also, that would deal with a lot the problems they face nowadays mostly, related to excess and self indulgence.

It was really nice of Dave to apologise, but DRS has the right to say how he felt also. And obviously the hurt went very deep so its going to take a while to get over it. Obviously drs cares very much for and respects his girlfriend, I somehow doubt the same could be said for you cittadina... do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Hm thought not.

I hope you were being sarcastic (bad case if you were) or something cittadina because WOW! I wasn't going to get in this whole "conversation," but LOL!

To make it short: rockstar or not, we're all human being and I think sometimes people forget that. I know, I know, it's hard to believe at times but it's true; we all eat, shit, sleep, and make mistakes, etc. so I hate to break the news to you but Dave isn't "higher" on the food chain. Dave apologized to drs and his girlfriend and that's all he can do and that was really nice of him.... I wish he would apologize to me or dedicate a post to me or some shit but anyways, I can also see were drs is coming from. However, Dave did well on his part by apologizing so that should be it.

However, I do hate when people try to justify everything that happens and act as one can't make mistakes, (i.e. Cittadina's post) but it happens! Get off your high horses!!

Anyways, everyone take care....

Hello! Well I'd be very pleased if Dave dedicated a whole post to an apology to me! In fact it would be more than worth the initial rejection! It almost makes me want to go to his next show.... just to get pushed away by him! Sigh.

Posted by: clarebanan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 27, 2008 08:41 AM

I really didn't think the situation was anything to get alarmed about. Lots of people just get emotional about little things. Civilians are dying in wars, famines and bombings in India. Why are we sweating the small stuff? Sometimes you just need to let it go. Stop dwelling on things that really don't matter. You won't even remember it a year from now. As a girl, I often get a lot of unwanted attention from men I'm not interested in. I can't begin to imagine what it's like to be a rock star with millions of fans clamoring for you. You have my sympathy, Dave.

Posted by: Opeth [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 27, 2008 01:02 PM

All I have to say about this is that Dave has always been gracious and friendly when I have been fortunate enough to see him in person. At first I thought he may ignore me, because I'm not young and pretty, but he couldn't have been any nicer. Love ya kid.... xoxoxo

My boyfriend just told me last night about what he posted so now let me comment, allow me to paint the picture for all of you. We were standing near the front of the stage having some drinks, and there was DN walking right past me, I guess i got a little (alot) excited and put my hand on his shoulder to say HI! he quickly turned around to look at me and then reacted pulling his shoulder away... for those of you whom have never been to the viper room it's a very intimate setting. There wasn't a group of people clawing at him, it was just me being caught up in the moment!!! Obviuosly i shouldn't of done that because his reaction made me feel two feet tall=(...Although I don't take it personal because he doesn't know me or owe me anything, it was still disappointing.
In retrospect, again, it's not that big of a deal. I'm a 36yr old mother of 4 so I have more bigger issues to deal with on a daily basis. With that, it's very hard for us to get out of the house so this was a MAJOR outing for us. We really just wanted to have a good time. My BF is naturally consumed with making sure i have the best time when we do go out. Despite my experience with DN, the show was great!!!
I have nothing bad to say about you DAve!! it's your music that inspires me to begin with. I've been a HUGE fan since the days of THE GIFT, so i'm not going anywhere.... I plan on seeing you in concert again one day and promise i will keep my paws to myself...thank you again for the apology Dave, it truly says alot and I guess that's why we all love you!!! BTW, DRS stands for DAVE REALLY SUCKS!!! haha j/kidding=) those are my BF's initials...thanks again Dave - LUV YOU!

Posted by: drs [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 27, 2008 05:10 PM

DRS - Dave Really sucks, thanks, I can't believe I didn't think of that myself, its so obvious, hahahaha, I don't know why but that really appeals to my v juvenile sense of humour! Wow DRS's girlfriend - not only did you get to see Dave play, you touched him on the shoulder, he dedicated a whole post to you and on TOP OF THAT you have a fantastic boyfriend. If I was the jealous type I'd be jealous! Okay, I'm jealous. Out of curiosity, When you touched Dave on the shoulder did you actually touch one of his bats?

Man o' man, you were on fire that night... fucking smashed it haha.

I go away for 4 days and 'Shouldergate' has erupted in my absence.

DRS (and girlfriend), now you know what it's like to have the audacity to say something negative about Dave!! Anyway, it's all sorted in the end as Dave has apologised, you've accepted it and the original event was only between you guys anyway.

I'm agreeing with Caff Sue's sentiments above, this whole thing has brought out some unnecessary nastiness from some people....

Dave is higher up the food chain!!! I think not! He may be a shit-hot musician, be better looking than me, be richer than me but I have good qualities as well as does everyone else - Dave is definitely NOT higher up the food chain than me or anyone else...well, one or two might be slightly further down the chain.....
