April 15, 2008

Yesterday, April 15, 2008, was a pretty spectacular day. After pre-taping an episode of SpreadTV with Eric Avery, which will air on Thursday, Eric informed me that he will be joining Jane's Addiction on the 23rd for the NME Awards! That means that one week from today, the original Jane's lineup will be performing together for the first time in 17 years. We have decided to do a handful of songs at the event which will be honoring the band. Eric's bass lines and writing contributions are such an integral part of the Jane's sound that the night would feel somewhat incomplete without his presence. We couldn't be happier about his decision to join us. Since Eric's departure in 1991, we have gone on to work with Flea, Martyn Le Noble and Chris Chaney. I would like to recognize them and thank them for their musicianship and support throughout the years. I consider them all as part of the Jane's family and legacy.

Last night, Perry performed at Tom Morello's Axis of Justice show at The Troubadour in Hollywood with Carl and Etty from Satellite Party. Tom had put together an incredible collection of artists for the evening including Pete Yorn, Slash, Steve Vai, Jerry Cantrell, Davey Havok and Stewart Copeland. Around 8:00pm I got a text from Perry that read, "Dave... Get down here. Flea is on his way and wants to jam!" Of course I accepted the invitation and immediately rolled over to joined Perry, Flea and Travis Barker for an impromptu Mountain Song. So much fun and for such a great cause. Plus, it gave Perry and I an opportunity to perform again in front of a public audience before hitting the awards show next Wednesday. I have had the good fortune throughout my years as a guitarist to share the stage with some unbelievable talents, but there is no one in the world that I feel more comfortable and at home with musically than Perry Farrell. Playing with Flea again was pretty incredible too. If I am not mistaken, I haven't played with Flea since the 1997 Jane's tour. Both Perry and Flea have had an enormous influence on my approach to guitar playing in their own different ways. It was pretty cool to share a musical moment with them again. Perk was up north with his band Banyan last night and was missed, but Travis was kind enough to fill in and did a great job.

From what I've just read, hell yeah it was a spectacular day Dave! Just by reading this post I've got a HUGE smile on my face! No doubt I'll be watching the NME Awards via internet/Myspace but Todd better have his self there recording everything if it's possible! If anyone of you 67 peeps know how to rip/record the show from Myspace on to the computer, help us out here (I think it is possible). History is going down!!

Funny that you mentioned jamming with Flea again, because I've been listening to the OHM b-side track "Melancholy Mechanics" back to back in the last couple of days (you remember that track don't you, if you don't, it's killer) and someone put up a video for it on youtube (it's really not a video, but there's a montage of pics and of course you're in them) and I got to thinking... that's cool and I know I mentioned him in one of my previous post on here about his trip to Haiti.

It's like the "old days" huh? It's amazing to hear that the vibes between everyone is flowing good!! I also hope that clip of all you guys jamming; Perry, you, Flea, and Travis surfaces on youtube as well. I'd love to see it!! It keeps on getting better and better.... Dave does it get any better? Ahhhhh, this is great news!!!! Happy that you’re happy, let the good vibes keep flowing! Give the middle finger to the media and all the haters/trash talkers!

Much Love,
-Kirsten

It's time to jam out!!!

I, like so many others who read here, have the biggest smile on my face...kinda like the one on your face in that picture of you two. Your level of excitement and joy are so clear in your last several blogs...I couldn't be more glad for you, and for all of us.

Im so happy for you, that the fact that I missed said musical reunion (which took place 10 freakin minutes from my apartment) isn't making me cranky...Im too fuckin stoked for all the possibilities to come!! :) xoxoxo ~Amber

Dang, wish I was there. That would have been awesome to see...

Hey Dave, im excited to see Eric is in the music business again with his solo album. When are you going to release another solo album or record another album with you apart of a band? like Panic Channel? Whatever happened to the panic channel? I wish I watch the Jane's show with Eric Avery back in the line up. Have you heard Eric's new album? Belly of an Insect is amazing. Well is this show a one time thing?

Posted by: Ablaggaboo [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 16, 2008 02:18 PM

Will post any vids of the reunion on here or on spread?

Posted by: psychicdj13 [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 16, 2008 02:38 PM

Wow. That sounds just amazing. It's an understatement to say that it's going to be a magical evening. It would be great if you could have the S.E. cameras rolling during the performance so we can all get to see it...

If you guys have a rapport where he can text you to come jam, and you're excited to jump on it, it's like that first explosion in the sky on a July 4th celebration. It's a given that what's going to follow is going to be REALLY, REALLY good...

Spreading the love,
Deena

Good stuff... VERY exciting and promising. And what a show that must've been last night! So happy for all of you.

Having loved JA's music for so many years, and having followed the whole "saga", I think it's wonderful how things are starting to come full circle. Almost miraculous. I can only imagine how strange and amazing it must be for the 4 of you. (Or not? Maybe it's just another day in the life?)

I'm not going to jump the gun and get prematurely emotionally pumped up about any shows or tours, but I'll keep my fingers crossed just in case. And I AM looking forward to seeing you and Eric together on SE.

Cheers,

Millions of Jane's fans across the world are sharing a big smile. Can't wait to see the NME show!

Long live Janes Addiciton!

Thank you boys

Flea played a couple songs with you guys at Coachella in '01.

I thought this would eventually happen, but am pretty surpised it happened now and so suddenly. Make it good. Take it for what it is. And don't try to make it something it's not.

I've travelled around 20,000 miles to see Jane's shows, I so wish I could be there for this.

Dave, what an incredible high that must have been for all of you! Do you think you will be tapine the NME Awards and posting for those of us who are not fortunate enough to be there?

Comfortable and at home .... great for you!

Always,
me

DN I found a vid on Youtube of Mountain Song the other night...the audio is fairly dry since it is a front row(sounds like the monitor mix), but cool nonetheless.

Some other guy has videos from that night... the video tags are "Best $10 Concert Ever." Classic.

Hey you know that youtube link is not bad at all :) GREAT to see any footage of it!!! xx

Wow, 17 years, this must be quite an incredible moment in time for you. I noticed Jane's was a top Yahoo search yesterday, you guys have a very loyal following. Congratulations on your award and performing together again.

ummm....I love it when I'm right, my wish is Dave's command, I remember saying on several occasions that Jane's was "on a break" ala Ross and Rachel...

Hey familia, no fear, NME awards will be streamed live on their myspace, so we will all be able to partake in the joy as it happens, that is, unless your computer is firewall protected (damm parental controls!!)

Thanks, Dave, maybe now I can actually see Jane's live, those of you who know my story, remember that's the reason I came here lo so many years ago, stupid boys going to see Jane's in Riverside without me!!!

Love to all, especially to some

You said that perhaps you haven't played with Flea since the 97 Jane's tour. I'm curious then: when did you record your solo song "Everything" with Flea + Chad Smith ---- the original Spread version?

Also, didn't Flea come out + play bass on "Been Caught Stealing" when Jane's played Coachella in 2001?
