New Spread
Been a while! I was in NYC and had an amazing time. The Stern show was, as always, a lot of fun. We ended up just talking about everything and nothing. I always have the best time on that show. As personal and intrusive as they get, Howard can get away with it more than anyone else in radio. I have done just about every morning radio show that tries to go for the "Stern" approach and they just can't do it without getting insulting. The reason is simply this. Howard actually listens to your answers and is even somewhat self deprecating during the interview which makes the time more conversational than anything else. They take their time and really allow you to be yourself. Also, the fact that he is now on Sirius, makes it that much more comfortable as there is no censorship. We got into everything I wanted to and even more. In fact, after the show, I was able to squash any disagreements I may have had with some of the people that were brought up. The Howard Stern Show: Where The Healing Begins - I was in there for about an hour and it went by so fast. I have done radio in the past where I was a guest for 10 minutes and it felt like a day. When time goes by like that, it is a sign of a great interviewer.
We talked for a while about the state of the music business, mainly up and coming Indie rock acts and the dwindling record sales. We talked about how people, for the most part, go over to iTunes and get the song or two that they want and not the whole album. I admitted to having done that myself. It occurs to me that if we want to support new music and up and coming artists, why not buy the whole album? They took the time to make it. I mean, we couldn't just get a song or two when we used to go to record stores. Sure, they used to have singles but back when it all worked, I'd usually buy an artist's album and not the single. So, in an effort to help support new music I have decided to download entire albums when purchasing new music on iTunes. Not only is it the least I can do to support new music, it makes my shuffle feature much more interesting. There is the argument that I'd be supporting the evil power of the corporate structures but the bottom line is that if a band is having some success with sales, the label is more likely to support them with ads, touring and so forth. As for the truly Indie bands, it's a win/win for them. So, if you can afford to join me, I am sure that your favorite artists and bands would greatly appreciate it.
HERE is the new Spread featuring Frederick's of Hollywood and music from Yellowcard. If you experience any trouble accessing the entire show, not to worry. We are on it! It may have even been solved by the time you finish reading this.

Good to hear that you had a good time in NYC! I don't do iTunes, instead I go out and buy the album in stores or I order it off of web so I'm pretty much with ya. Anyways, I just like collecting Cd's and having the physical thing. Also, if my iTunes library was to crash or anything, I have all the Cd's so it won't be such a pain. Also I just recently got Mr. J Medeiros record (he was a guest on Spread if you remember) and that's one hell of a record honestly.... real hip-hop.
Enjoyed Spread last night, however it went cuckoo while it was into the MrRian clip, but you guys are on it so no worries. Hot chick from gym.... haha.
One love,
-Kirsten

Sounds like you had a great time in NYC, cool. Wish could have heard the Stern show, maybe there is a way on the net? Or perhaps it's already living out in cyberspace, waiting like BBC tv shows available for one week only!
i-tunes, you have a point. Kudos to the bands who are HAPPY about downloads and support the way music consumption has changed, cheers to those who move with the decades - the industry surely is no longer 100% controlled by the corporate entities and that's fantastic for freedom and flexibility, yep we should do our bit to keep it snowballing that way.. but personally I don't think I can ever truly sell my soul for downloads. I love my nano but there's something so desirable about the tangible product of artwork and disc. Even if it does mean uploading the tunes but either way if we download we have to burn to disc to play off the i-pod anyway! Do you buy discs these days or is it all downloads in the DN collection?
Have a sexy weekend.
Much love

Watched Spread until the end of the Fredericks interview, then everything came to a shuddering halt and refused to start again - so gave up. Something weird went on with last week's as well, got to the end of the Matt Zane interview and the show ended - as if it was the very end of the show - tried later in the week and it was fine.
I was hoping that the Stern interview would be available somewhere but I can't find it - doesn't appear to be on his site, just a verbal description. Is there any chance of hearing it??
Downloading music....done the single song thing a couple of times, mostly with old songs I remember from the 70s and 80s. I'm old fashioned and like to have the CD or 12" record. I remember being disappointed when CDs started and records began to die out - I really missed the big covers and info on the record sleeves. I tend to get CDs rather than download because the CDs are normally cheaper from Amazon than downloading the whole album off iTunes...mmm probably killing off more artists with the cheap option... It's been a while since I've been moved by a really new artist, perhaps I'm jaded or perhaps most new music sounds like a re-hash of stuff I've heard before.
Bummer about not winning the Xbiz (sp?) award, but you did get nominated! There must be thousands of porn films done every year, at least you got recognition.
Glad to have you blogging again.....take care all.....................SB

I heard the Stern show, excellent job! It's always good to "clear the air" personally about stuff. And your right, Howard can say stuff to you that if anyone one else said it you would have bitten their heads off. There was the one thing when he responded to your statement about having a target on your back that I was like "Uh oh". If it was ANY other interviewer you would have been like "WHAT??? Are you SERIOUSLY saying that to me?" But it's Stern so....
And because it was satellite radio your as brutally honest as you are on SRL. But dude....the intern???....;-)
Sorry the weather sucked while you were here though.

Nice to hear you enjoyed yourself in NY, but it's also good to have you back! :)
Wish I could hear the Stern seg, but I guess it'll be up somewhere soon and I'll be able to hunt it down.
Spread was great as usual, sorry to hear you didn't have a V-day date but I'm sure you found something to do either way.
Regarding the i-tunes - I don't even have i-tunes.. I guess I kinda stumble across music and if I really like it, I'll buy the whole CD. I'm more of a download kind of girl though. Although I do miss having real CDs.. I guess it's an individual thing.
Much love

Dave,
Hi,
I have left messages for you before, but you never respond to me. My picture is now at typekey. So you will know who you are talking to. I think you are fantastic. You intruded into my life on rockstar. I have been head over heals in LOVE with you since then, I really wish I could meet you and talk to you. I am currently in an online college getting my degree in Assoc. Information Science Technology. From there I go into Multimedia Graphics and Animation specializing in Heavy Metal. I love to watch your show, now that I have a new computer and don't get kicked off. And listen when your on the radio, you said once being with a women that could take her teeth out would be like a trip to heaven! Well wanta go to heaven? I know this is terribly forward of me! And ordinairly I would not be this way!!! I am usually very quiet and fun loving I love to watch people and study them, if they keep my interest I will approach them for interviews for class projects. I think you would be a fasinating interview. I know quite abit about you, your so open and honest about yourself. I can admire that in you because I am the same way, tell it like it is even when it hurts. But you are so real in my dreams anymore its almost like you are really here. Sex has always been my favorite thing to do, while I may start out shy, thats not the way I finish. I love adventure!!! And I am not a stalker. I do not do Rockstars! You are the only one to ever catch my attention and keep it. This really scares the Hell out of me on one plane. And excites on the other. I am probably scaring you have to death right now, I am very sorry if I am. This is not my intention at all. I just can not keep this inside anymore. And my physicic advisor tells me to go for it. All you can say is no or continue to ignore me. So if your interested in at least talking to me all of my info is on type key or right here. If not say so and I will move on and leave you totally alone! Never to bother you again. I am hoping for a better reply though, I saw you with Supernova in 2006. My brother burned my backstage pass or I would have met you then!! Maybe you would have been interested then who knows? I just know how I feel about you, and I will leave you alone, so let me know what you think. By the way I do know you are a very busy man, I also am a very busy woman, I have to make time to watch you and listen for you. This is not always easy, so I do understand how hard it will before you! But you can always make time for a new friend if you want too. With lots of Love the one that might just get away! Our stars do align and are good together, if you believe in that stuff. I am still a little skepticle but my physic report on me was right on.
Lots of love,
Kathe

Although you're a guy, you still have to watch yourself Dave. Glad I'm not a celebrity. Stay safe hombre. Just know that there's always people out there who care about you enough to watch your back and make sure you're free from harm. I've only met you once, but I still care about you like a brother. You even look like my brother. You're the best DN.

I am taking a bigger chance than either of you can imaging. So really don't worry yourselfs. By the way my Picture is at Mypicturetown.com in myphotos in kath's album feel free to check it out.

If that Kath is for real, I really have to say to her that I can sympathise, I too have been v delusional at times in my past, to escape reality, delusions are not all bad, as long as you don't get too carried away, I hope it all works out for her and you never know Dave might respond but the liklihood Dave only makes out he's single to get fans and may even have a family and five kids for all we know hidden away in some village in Mexico. Other than that, well, I think his version of single would deffo not be the same as ours, him being a celebrity in hollywood etc, and, well, maybe just regard coming to his blog as a bit of fun etc.

5 kids hidden in some village in Mexico? Hahahahahahaha!! You almost killed me, I was eating a Subway sandwhich and I read this and I almost choked on it. Uh, yeah Kathe... hope something works out for you... Dave or not.

Hi,
Las vegas sounds great! Wish I could be there! I just found out I have a 4.0 grade and am on the Deans list. Thats a new one for me! I have read the comments about me above. They make me laugh! I am not delusional nor am I a paid advertiser for mypicturetown which I believe was a sponser for you on SpreadEntertainment if I am not mistaken. I want to apologize for scaring you. I thought I could be honest and upfront with you. A character flaw of mine. I guess I should have known it would scare you off and make you afraid of me. Believe me I can't nor do I want to hurt you. I took a chance thats all. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I am 5'8" tall small framed I have long dark brown hair, blue eyes that change with my moods, I am very pretty, I know this because I get a lot of attention from a lot of very good looking men. And it is nice to have the attention. But I don't act on it. I am very picky about that kind of thing and very conservative. Which is to say I don't get laid like you do! But thats okay too. I have a good reputation and I want it that way. I really didn't mean to scare you! I really do care about you, and I had hoped to at least talk to you and maybe get to know you personally. I'd send you my picture if I knew where to send it just to show you I am not a freak! I will meet you someday, after I get out of school I will be working in the same professional field your in, or maybe another Panic Channel concert. I don't know if I will tell you who I am though, I will keep supporting your efforts and accomplishments along your way! And I wish you great success in everything you do! All the happiness this world has in it!! And if you will let me maybe I will post again, who knows, at this point you don't want me too. So God Bless You. And I am once again SORRY for SCARING YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All my Love,
Kath.

Okay Kathe, well, you say you are five feet eight? Well, that is waaaaaay taller than Dave Navarro, would you really want a boyfriend who is that much shorter than you, who has to stand on a stool to kiss you, or when he is talking to you is talking at your chest not your face? I mean I know we see these bazaar couples of diverse sizes together walking around the streets all the time, but lets face it, it's a lot of extra effort to go to, and do you need that on top of all your course college work? I am sure there are plenty of good looking men your own YOUR OWN HEIGHT at school. Good luck!!

But, well if you are determined, there may be ways around it, perhaps Dave could wear high heels or platform shoes, maybe you could bring these suggestions up if and when he contacts you. Good luck!!

dude, when you said on Stern that you had a target on your back....damn you weren't kidding!!
Whoah.
Dave is 5'9" (self proclaimed) but I have stood next to him wearing 5" platforms (which would make me 5'6") and he was still taller than me. So who ever is making him out to be some sort of a midget I suggest doing a little research.

"Making Dave out to be some sort of midget??" Hahahaha, I'm loving this. Btw Tiffany, Robin is right. Dave might not be the tallest guy but he isn't THAT short. He is 5"9 so there. You really don't want Kath to talk to him do you? That's really up to Dave....
Anyways, Robin or anyway for that matter, is there a place I can download the mp3 of Dave on the Stern show? I'd like to have it..... thanks!

Not much is going on here, it's just that this girl fantasizes about Dave, going on a blind date with him perhaps, or at least meeting him... it's a first. In all seriousness though, Kath I don't think that by you coming on here trying to reach him was THAT crazy. However, I hope you're not that cuckoo obsessed/stalker type... Anyways, if you're that serious about meeting him, don't let any one of us discourage you from doing so. I really can't blame ya though because I'd like to meet Dave to... who doesn't? But I'm not talking about meeting him like you're talking about "meeting him" because he's old enough to be my father (haha) but to just meet him and say hey and a few words. You never know :p. Dave, maybe you can adopt me, my dad isn't around that much and I need a father figure in my life so hey. I'm 16 and I am Honors student, I'd try my best to not get in your way of your lifestyle haha.

Hi, I'm Sarah, 5' 8", older than Dave, greyer, less fit, slightly overweight, very sarcastic, degree educated, married and, surprisingly enough, not interested in having sex with Dave - (a) because I'm married and (b) it ain't never gonna happen - although Dave is good to look at - and listen to.
Yes, Kath, you did come across as a slightly scary stalker type in your first post.
And, yes, I strongly suspect Dave is getting laid as much as we think he is - probably more.
I've also heard/seen Dave say he's 5'9" which is hardly a midget! Look at Tom Cruise, what's he, 5'6"? Plenty of women chasing him about! What about Flea?! I think it is a bit cruel to dismiss someone just because they are short - what happened to personality, etc.? Obviously doesn't count.....
The latest Spread played OK at the weekend, but my iTunes computer file has gone tits up so I don't know if I have missed any CFRs.
Looking forward to more of the 6767 on line lonely hearts comments.......................

Hi guys,
Boy have I ever caused a lot of commotion on my posting here. Thanks for the positive thoughts and the sarcastic ones too. You guys make me laugh!! Yeah, there are a lot of good looking guys around me. Especially right now, I live in a world famous Ski resort. And I know I am not taller than Dave. I would be with my heels on though, but does that really matter? Who knows if he will even ever contact me! And I am not a stalker, I just took a chance, I would really like to meet him. But My week out of school is over and its back to the grind if I am going to keep that 4.0 and stay on the Deans list. Oh by the way I am a little older than Dave too. But in good shape. Have fun!!
Kath.

I'm with the "ever sarcastic Sarah-B." Tiffany the comments you made were pretty rude... maybe you dismiss guys by their height, each to their own I guess. No one in the Peppers are tall for that matter, except for Chad. Actually I can't think of too many really tall rock stars, the tallest "rockstar" that I know is Krist Novoselic from Nirvana and he was 6"8. It's been a fun 3-day weekend on this board, back to school tomorrow :/.

The tallest musician I have ever met was Duff McKagan, he's like 6'3". I came to the middle of his chest. Even Dave would agree he's a tall mutha.
Scott Weiland was second, he's about 6' even (though he doesn't appear that tall). I came up to his shoulder.
