Let's try a Monday 10

(Painting by Wes Borland) OK. The whole typekey login comment thing should be fixed here... Loop has worked his digital magic. Just did a couple days in Vegas and we had a really great time. Went to the opening of a new club called LAX at the Luxor on Friday. The party was hosted by Brtiney Spears and was kind of a "comeback" launch for her and her new record and I suppose an overall new public profile approach. I only spoke to her for a few minutes but I got to say that she didn't seem all that crazy to me... But then again, look at the source HAHA... In fact, she seemed totally fine. Musically I am not a fan of hers but on a human level I hope that the press can just lay off her for a while. Having had my own small slice of bullshit from the media I can't even imagine what someone like her has to go through on a daily basis.

The next night we went over to Tangerine where I hosted a little party for a few hours then we went over to Pure to wrap up the trip. No time for gambling this trip so I actually came home with some money left in my wallet. There are some new clips of Wes Borland up on SPREAD ENTERTAINMENT from last week's show. The full episode will be up later this week. Wes has officially become my new favorite current all around artist and if you haven't seen the new video for his band, Black Light Burns, you definitely need to check it out:

Come on Dave, Brtiney Spears wasn't going anywhere with her early work. She was a kid. No way does that music get any attention at her current age. That whole crazy thing is just a marketing plan to shed her past image. She's a woman now. Her new music will probably reflect that. Still maybe not your taste. Her past music wasn't my taste, either. But I wonder what she'll be doing next. I think she need a major makeover if she was going to crossover to a more mature sound. I think the past couple of year of wild headlines was just what the marketing doctor order to make that transition.

What's happened to the music? I was listening to some of old soul music of the 70s the other day. The arraingments on those old tracks were put together really well. It's rare that I hear real music these days. By real music I mean things not generated by computers. I longing for some classic rock in todays music. Why can't we hear stuff like Hearts "magic man"? That was classic...the arraingment.

Where has the music gone? This day and age is aching for a modern day classic. Words, words, words come a dime a dozen. Don't we know it? Where is the music?

Hi DN, welcome back - to us and you! :)
Glad you had a great time.
As for Britney, each to their own, it's frustrating as ever that the press have the impact they do.
I just got back from Toronto, literally, and before the jetlag faded bought a bass guitar today! That's what spending two weeks with best friends who bleed and breathe music does to you - Assmoles: Art Carcass and King Gong http://www.myspace.com/beatmymeter
1) now have a ton of infused questions best summarised as: ANY tips? (sniff, need new fingers already).
2) Hope you get your loft sorted out, is it feeling like home?
3) Seen any flicks lately?
Much love.

Hola Dave-
Glad you had a good time in Sin City! Love is grand huh:)

Seen my favorite illusionist was there as well(Criss Angel).

Britney, not so much:( My stepdaughter liked her when younger and never could get into the manufactured pop. Her image and voice all polished. Wondering if she was out of the spotlight for a month, how she would feel?

By the way, liked the KISS MEETS THE PHANTOM and BRADY BUNCH clips added on to the SE episodes...Makes me feel like a kid again!

Liking the Black Light Burns tune-my kinda music.

Since you have the Deconstruction tune on your myspace=have you talked to Eric Avery recently? Would you consider future colaborations with him.? HOw bout you, Wes Boreland, and Avery?

Happy Labor Day SEXY 67ers:)

By the way, I suspect your comment about Britney will make news now..... just like your comments about Lindsey and Paris:O Your blog has THE POWER. Laters-Db

Came home from Vegas with money?? Sorry that's not part of my vocabulary.

As for Britney whether she is a little crazy or not (who of us has had a "moment" of two) isn't the point. The point is the girl can't take her kids to the fucking zoo without paparazzi with high-powered lenses following her. NO ONE deserves to be hung out to dry like she has.

Besides she has to remember to wear undies.

Yay!!! 6767 is back up and running - well done Loop!

Here's my Monday 10 candidate -

Where did the name "Spread" come from?

Britney - not a fan, but I did/do feel sorry for her going through a very public split, divorce, 'troubles' and now some sort of custody fight over her kids. If she was feeling vulnerable before, the media pressure is unlikely to help. Good comment about the undies! - if going commando, remember to keep the legs closed...

Similar sympathy for Lindsay Lohan and her troubles. The jury is still out with me over Paris Hilton as I'm not sure what she's famous for apart from partying, being extremely wealthy and carrying small mutant dogs in her handbags. On that subject - I was on a plane in America a couple of years ago with someone sitting near me with one of those bag dogs. The owner kept complaining about not being able to put the bag/dog up on the empty seat next to her - she wasn't allowed due to asthma and allergy issues with other passengers. Then the dog had a crap and proceeded to stink out the entire cabin - now even less of a fan of those designer dogs than I was before.

Don't even start me on Victoria Beckham......give us a break!!!!! I DON'T CARE what she's doing!!!

Is the club called LA X or Lax? If it's the latter, it's too close to 'laxative' for my childish sense of humour to cope with.

I know bugger all about Wes Borland and his band, but I liked the song above, though I'll have to listen to it on a proper sound system rather than the tinny computer speakers - thanks Dave.

Hi everyone....................................SB

Britney is ... Britney. It's going to take a lot of work on her part to even have a glimmer of hope of getting her career back to the way it used to be. Hats off to her for giving it another go, though.

Here's a random ass question for the Monday 10: What, if you have one, is your computer desktop picture? I'm apparently curious about dumb shit like that.

Screw Britney's career...I really hope she's able to reclaim some type of "normal" life for her boys. They truly do deserve better.

Glad you had a good time in Vegas. I too don't understand the concept of coming home from there with money in my wallet.

As for a question...Do you believe that people can fundamentally change their desires in a relationship? And is it wrong to ask your partner to accomodate those "new" desires if you are going to stay in a long-term relationship with them?

Dave,

You should do some type of Guitar piece like Joe Bonamassa. That song "If heartaches were nickles" is so tough. There's a lot of soul in that jam.

welcome back, Dave! I have been a faithful reader on 6767 for about as long as it has been around...finally signing in.

As for a 10 question----True that you will be directing an "adult" film? If so who is staring and what can we expect?

faithfully yours- kat

hello. black light burns, it was intense and any time i see a few girls abusing a man (for vidoe of course) that made my day. the begining was sexy smokin!

just pray for Brit.thanks for being nice and supportive the indutrsy is COLD. Dave, i am grateful you spoke well of her, that is very cool. we are just souls in bodies and life is trip no matter who we are. lets support our young people in their trials and joys. even though it all looks stupid and surreat. because, this is our generation, its us, our people, our music, our culture. the spin-babble media? turn it off, we are a specific audience and Dave knows that. we show up here, not on network tv. sometimes to be sane i have mentallly and emotionally check out from that crap.

its good 2 be back posting, thanks for letting us vent. we come to see you.

back to that video, smoking, sexy, fun, it also reminded me of...the Crow, anyone remember that.

relationships; sourpatch has a good question. we live in our heads and we can change desires as we try something, or maybe we discover something new we like as we grown and age inside out relationships.
relationships (r-ships) are a huge challenge in life. r-ships are fun and i hope everyone here has r-ships they make them feel like they are at home.

"me and my beloved", are back together. i take joy and pleasure in trying some or listening to what he wants, desires, etc and he takes great pride in my silly happiness'es too. so as long as its a equal and 50/50 it can work. he is a trip and i have tons of "desire questions".

Dave and everyone, stay well, keep the power, lets keep the voice. i love SE.

Welcome back Dave. Glad you had a great time. So many parties so little time.
I really like Wes's Art work. It’s dark and twisted. Very cool!!
For the Monday 10.
I know you co/wrote Tea house of the Spirits and Bloody Mary, were they influenced by your personal experiences and/ or feelings? For example "Give it all up just to be near you" I was assuming you were speaking about your mother.
Bloody Mary ...."Oh 3 o'clock and Mary's still. Working late up in the hills" I know by reading your book that Mary was the name of your dealer and that also you used to live up on the hill. So am I right or is it just a coincidence?

I realize that all great songs come from happiness or pain. These are great songs! Even the songs on Trust No One are fricken awesome. It so refreshing to hear songs that comes from the heart and soul of a true artist. You don’t find artistic artists anymore you are a rare breed Dave. I can’t wait for you to pour out your heart and soul to us again, your fans who love you. I hope your new songs will be from happiness.
Much Love,
XOXOXO
Margaret

I know drug addiction can cause depression. Did you go through a depression? Do you still struggle with it? Did you need medication?

I mean.. I know things will get better but life just seems like it isn't worth living sometimes. The sane part of me says I have so much to live for, three kids and a great husband but I cant stand feeling so... off.
Well what ever happens, You have brought joy and a place to distract myself from sadness so I thank you for that. I hope you keep doing what you are doing.

Okay, I have to ask this because I have always wanted to know.

In one of your songs you refer to someone who used to be a friend who is "not so hairy". Who is this ex friend? Why is he not hairy anymore? Has he shaved his head? Does he have alopecia? Was he ever hairy to begin with?

Oh and to the person who is feeling depressed and cut off....COUNSELLING, good diet and exercise can all have a very positive impact. Also, so can having fun on the internet (as long as it doesn't get too obsessive). Put some time into taking care of yourself. xx

Hey Dave, you've spoken previously about "Trapped in the Closet: Vol. 1-12" and I believe you basically said that R. Kelly was a genius of his own insanity, which I totally agreed with. A few weeks ago, R. Kelly released "Trapped in the Closet: Vol. 13-22", and I watched it. I was disappointed by the new chapter and I now think that he is just insane and the genius part if it is pretty much gone. My question is, have you seen "Trapped in the Closet: Vol. 13-22" and if so, what's your take on it? Later!

Cool,

Wes Borland is rad indeed! I really dug seeing him on SE. Hopefully you two will eventually get together on something.

So a question~ Do you feel like you're going for a studio at home, or more of a home studio with your loft? How close is SE to getting a permanent space and will it have a bar functioning like it currently does at it's home, the Dragonfly?

Hehehe!

I love your hair in the picture above! Too bad you weren't at the Luxor when I was there, but I'm glad you had a good time.

I feel like we get to know you better each time you answer one of our questions. Do you feel like you know us better by the questions that we ask?

Posted by: Linda from San Diego [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 4, 2007 08:37 AM

hello, something fun and light hearted for the sunday questions, do you cook? what do you make, if you do?

is the loft done to your specs.?

the person is who dpressed/struggling; we all go thru down times, we live in hard days.you are brave and strong just being on earth! you are doing better than you think withjust being honestin feelings and truth! with the kids and husband remember you work so hard. you are loved and needed by them. please hang in there. it seems like you already have a good supportive group of people around you. draw on that. music, art, the distractions of tv help us, we are all expressive creative people.

Shelly, I didn't read your post before. If you are using drugs, or have in the recent past, it's difficult for a doctor to diagnose your depression. I hope you do get help, and you may need medication, but don't medicate yourself.

My son was depressed, but his drug addiction is what killed him. My father committed suicide, and a year later, I lost my son. Don't leave your loved ones with that cross to bear. Your suffering would be over, but theirs would be endless!

Linda, that's heavy duty...don't know how long ago those events were but you have my sympathy.

Shelly, just hang on in there, there is ALWAYS something to live for although it doesn't always feel like it. I'm no expert, but even talking about 'stuff' can help. Look at the support you are getting from strangers on the internet!!!!

Otherwise, just checking in......take care all....especially those having a rough time.......SB

Posted by: Sarah-B [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 4, 2007 01:43 PM

Shelly...i hope you read all these comments and see the support you have here.

i can relate to feeling "off," even when it seems like you have a lot going for you. i have two wonderful kids, a new relationship with a man that cherishes everything about me and loves me deeply, etc..etc...however, just six months ago i was getting the crap beat out of me physically and mentally by my now-ex, and looking for a way to escape. If i'm not careful, i tend to mentally rewind back to there and it is a damn scary place to be.

i sincerely hope you find some peace.

i also want to say a thanks to everyone here that offered me support when i posted (under a fake name) about my old relationship and my own "blue bruises"...You'll never know how much that meant.

R. Kelly?

Are you kidding me? That stuff he did with Ronald Isley a few years back was a joke as far as music goes. Every line ending in a rhyme. Stupid stuff. God that was so corny.

Hi Dave & Everyone,
like that picture of you and your lady and now looking at the Tangerine myspace page, i see where it came from. in one picture a bodyguard is by you and it looks like the same man who was next to you at that fashion event where you were showing your briefs, ha. and the pictures from the Susan Koman event: the two of you looked fabulous (Nicole, not the bodyguard).
i had a question for the 10: are there any magazines you like best. do you like vacations that are very busy or very low-key
have a great & peaceful evening.

wait, sorry, above is from LAX, you already said that. ok, the Tangerine pictures are out there if you haven't seen them.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaave...tomorrow night! Deena and I will be at Irving Plaza heavily representing and getting some choice material!
We also got the goods on a "after party" and lucky for us it's at a usual haunt ;-) We're as safe as kittens!
