Today

Lots going on over here. First, about 6767... Loop has to update the software or something like that so that is why we can't leave comments anymore, but it should be back in full force in a week or two. Sorry about the delay... For now you can always comment over at MySpace, as I usually copy and past all the blog posts there. On today's Spread Entertainment, I am going to try to bring back the AIM feature using the screen name: spreadradiolive. It is going to be a full show so I can't promise we will be able to get to a lot of questions. We have the music of The Office as well as Wes Borland from Black Light Burns on today. Also, Todd will be running his 20 minute clip from the Adult Film Star Ball we attended in Denver last week. The clip is actually more of a look into the mind of Todd Newman, rather than a piece on a party at a strip club. We will see by his editing and direction, what a twisted little guy he really is! It's awesome! This may be his crowning jewel of SE short films.

Tomorrow, Riss, Nicole and I are leaving for Vegas for the holiday. I will be hosting a night at Tangerine on Saturday so come on down if you are in town. I should be back on CFR next Saturday with Billy. Other than that... Gearing up for some dates with DJ Skribble, (I'll post the dates and cities as soon as I have them.) finishing up Broken (Contrary to some media coverage - this is not a career move, it is a one time collaborative project with Teravision.) and getting into the mindset of writing some new material for a record that will be all DIY from home... No need to screw around with labels and all that anymore. This album will be a Spread Entertainment Release and will be available online. I know that Isaacs is planning on coming back to LA soon, so I am hoping that we can get a Panic Channel acoustic thing on the show. Other than all that I am still in the moving process. I don't have my curtains up yet so I am waking up at the crack of dawn everyday... VERY unlike me.

Some Questions Answered

1. I too am shocked by the "old fashioned" statement. Now I've really heard it all! LOL

Well, I did say "more" old fashioned than Gene and Margaret. I didn't say I was old fashioned. Hey, there is no right or wrong way to do a relationship... It's just whatever works for the couple. Gene is adamant about not getting married and Margaret spoke freely about having different partners outside of her marriage. Me... I am into the monogamy thing when I am in a relationship and as for marriage, I still believe in the celebration and the romance. People make mistakes, learn and hopefully grow from the experience. I know I have many times in my life in many different areas. So, I feel "more" old fashioned than some, but in no way am I in judgment of personal choices. Like I said, whatever works. Whatever makes you happy.

2. I know that you probably won't really know until you get in the studio and start working, but how do you think your next album will compare stylistically to your past solo work?

I have a feeling that it will sound a lot like the early Spread demos. Raw, stripped down and full of lengthy musical soundscapes that captivate a mood rather than lyrical content to hammer an idea home. Of course, there will be lyrics, but I look forward to placing beds of music into songs that expand upon a lyrical idea in a non specific way.

3. Getting divorced 3 times ISN'T 'old fashioned'. No matter how you try to spin it or fool yourself into thinking.

No spin here... Nor am I fooling myself. I was asked a question and I answered it. I am divorced yes, but that hasn't destroyed my belief in love and my hope for the future. Live, learn and move on. If things don't work out in life, what are you gonna do? Live in a box and shy away from anything similar to an experience you may have had?

4. What is your viewpoint on gay marriage?

I have absolutely no problem with gay marriage whatsoever.

5. Do you ever send comments on myspace to fans?

No. Honestly I get so many requests for comments (sometimes they get downright bitchy) that I wouldn't really have time for all of them and I feel that if I can't do them all, I shouldn't do any. I guess blogging from time to time is the best I can do.

Spread Entertainment: Recap

(Copyright 2007 Debbie VanStory/RockinExposures.com) Last night's Spread Entertainment had to be one of my favorites so far. Margaret Cho was amazingly friendly and funny as hell. She was so open and up front about her thoughts, beliefs and ways of life with a continual injection of her own brand of comedy. Gene was, as always, the perfect guest. As an interviewer, I really didn't have to do much with him. I kind of just said, welcome to the show and let him go. He had so much to say about the state of the music business and rock in general. The guy does so much that a Kiss recap felt unnecessary. The real heat was turned up when his partner Shannon Tweed came on stage and pretty much took over. It was a lot of fun to witness their dynamic first hand and get into some relationship issues. Plus, rarely do we see Gene get "shut down" so hard. Of course it was all in fun and I felt really inspired about long lasting relationships as a result of their appearance. They really seemed like best friends and always knew what each other was about to say before they said it. Overall, last night's show had a relationship thread running through it. Even though Margaret Cho and Gene Simmons are worlds apart, they both shared their unique brands of what works for them and even commented on one another's view points. As it turns out, I am more old fashioned than either of them, but that was all part of the fun of live discussion. Next week we have Wes Borland coming down from Limp Bizkit and most currently from Black Light Burns. Wes is a super interesting and talented artist and will hopefully be bringing down some of his paintings for us.

I am going out of town this weekend so if you guys want to throw a 10 at me, I'm all good with that.

Checkin In...

Sometimes my partner Todd has a little too much time on his hands. Thank God!

1. Do you believe in the concept of love at first sight, or do you think it's just lust?

Well, I don't know about at first sight... That may be a lust thing... But I believe in love at first interaction. When I met my girlfriend, as soon as we started talking and relating, I knew right away that I was sunk! I haven't looked back since.

2. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

The Goodfellas Soundtrack just came to mind when I read that. It's pretty close to perfect. That or Breakfast Club. HAHA...

3. It seems Perez is the only one Dave is answering questions for about his new project....

Well, nobody has really asked anything! HAHAHA... After hosting and working at several Adult events over the years, I have come to make many friends in the industry. After this year's Erotica convention I got a call from Teravision. They asked if I was interested in directing a film for them. The shoot would take a day or two, so I thought, "What the hell? Seems like this could be fun and different." As a result, we made Broken. (The title came from the film's star, Sasha Grey.)

Moving

The Amazing Swiffer Vac - Hard Wood Floor's Best Friend

Last night's show was a lot of fun! Tim & Eric are super funny and Adriana was a total pro. I don't know why last week's show isn't up with Andy Milonakis but I am going to get it up there a.s.a.p. The shows are becoming super streamlined and a lot easier to do... A controlled looseness that I love. Next week we have Gene Simmons and Margaret Cho in the studio so you won't want to miss that. I haven't been blogging all that much recently as there has been so much going on. I am still in the process of moving into my loft and as you know, that is a huge undertaking. The way I do it is this... I get rid of everything I haven't used or worn in the past year and go as streamlined as possible. I can't imagine moving with everything I owned... That would be a huge mess. I just brought some clothes, computers, cars, art, furnishings, toiletries and I am good. I think living out of a suitcase for all these years has been helpful to a degree. Other than getting all of that together I have been working with DJ Skribble on some upcoming shows, Spread Entertainment, a couple of shoots here and there and hanging with Todd, Larissa and my girl. Once the move is done and I am all settled and have gotten some travel out of the way... It's time for work on another record. I want to go super DIY and maybe write and record everything here.

Let's Get Provocative Here...

1. What's top of your to-do list?

Well, since I just moved I have so much on that list. Electricians, movers, measuring tape... It's all going smooth though and very exciting. I now live in a big loft style, industrial warehouse space and it is a super creative environment. So, as soon as I am set up, I am thinking that it's time to start writing and recording again.

2. If you could have someone look into a crystal ball and predict your future would you be interested?

No, not at all. I would be amazed that someone could do that, but as far as seeing my future, I would not want a reading. Life is full of ups and downs and surprises that happen for us to learn and grow and if I knew what was coming I might change my path and rob myself of some pretty valuable lessons or exciting times.

3. Now, as far as the old photo booth creations scenario, why not integrate this into SE?

That is a great idea, but now that we are at the Dragonfly and have to set up each week, it's not realistic yet. We are moving into a proper studio within the next few months and when we do I will revisit that idea. I know that TRL has one in place, but the good news is, by their own admission, they stole the idea from me so I have no problem stealing it back. I stole it from Andy Warhol anyway... So it's all about him in the end.

Sunday 10

Last week's Spread Entertainment had to be on of the best shows we have done! Andy Milonakis was so fuckin funny... That kid is out of his mind in absolutely the best way possible. Missy and James from The Suicide Girls were a lot of fun and super sweet, then we went in the other direction with Matt Zane, porn director and performance artist. He fully suspended himself in mid air by piercing his body with four huge hooks through his flesh and then proceeded to pick up adult film star, Tera Wray. Clips from the show are up on the channel now and the full episode will be in rotation by Monday.

Sunday 10

1. Do you mentor to troubled youths? I could see you getting in there and giving them the talk on why drugs are not good.

I have been a speaker on many panels about the potential downfalls of drug abuse. The thing to remember about speaking to young people is that for the most part, they are going to do what they are going to do until they are ready to start a new life on their own. All you can do is give them the information and let them know that there is an alternative. Never get preachy. I only refer to my experiences and what steps I took to stay clean.

2. If you were in a relationship for about a year and half and you have arguments and fights often about the same thing, what would you do?

Many times the source of an argument is valid but it's our inability to communicate respectfully and effectively that creates the bigger problem. I would suggest counseling where a neutral party could help keep discussions and sharing of feelings on the right track, without getting hurtful or stirring up unnecessary old baggage. A good counselor can also teach a couple the appropriate language to help get past some issues when they do come up. Instead of, "You are a jerk for doing such and such!" Try, "When such and such happened, I felt sad/afraid/angry/hurt/etc." Try not to assign blame, but take responsibility for your own part in the problem and your own feelings. If you want your relationship to be a team, you can't win anything. The idea is for the team to win. Once you have taken a side, you have become adversaries. Don't look for a way to win, look for a solution together.

3. Your necklaces are pretty unique. Are they all custom pieces?

No, I either interchange or lose things so often that it would be a waste to have stuff made.

Con't

7. I was wondering if the public is still invited to the Dragonfly for Spread Entertainment?

Yes, we welcome the public for the live shows and the bar is open. 6510 Santa Monica Blvd-Hollywood, CA 90038-Thursdays from 5:00pm-6:00pm

8. Did they (Chelsea Lately Show) edit down the interview or was she really that spastic? She said she was going to let you give your take on the whole Paris, Lindsey thing and then it never aired. She didn't even let you set up the clip from the show. Was your experience on that show what you though it would be at all?

Um, no not at all. It was weird to say the least. She was very sweet and all, but she was a little all over the place. I do understand, having my own Internet talk show, and that is why we are an hour. With only 6 minutes to do an interview, it makes for a potentially uncomfortable exchange. Whatever... I did get the word out about the show, but running the clip with no set up really did no service to anybody.

9. The Christmas song you did with Camp Freddy. Is there any possible way you can put it up on here so we can download it?

It's called Merry Christmas Everybody and it is available on iTunes. If you can't access iTunes, perhaps someone here can "file share" it to you. ;)

10. Have you ever had an online or otherwise crush? Do you act on them?

Who me? Nahhhhhh!!!!!
