Perez and Avalon
Thanx to everyone for the birthday wishes! I couldn't have had a better birthday week, with trips to Vegas and Vancouver. Vegas was more loose and reckless of course while Vancouver was a lot more upscale as I attended the opening of the Holt Renfrew store. Today is the fourth episode of Spread Entertainment at The Dragonfly in Hollywood. Last week we had more people in the audience and it made for a better show I think. If you are free this afternoon, come on down to The Dragonfly and hang with us around 4:30 or 5:00pm PST. We know it's a tough time to get anywhere in LA, but you are the ones who make it all work. Today we have Perez Hilton and rapper Mickey Avalon who will be doing a live in studio performance. Last week we fired up the AIM (spreadradiolive) and I was able to get to a few questions. Today, I will be going to IM and MySpace more as we have allotted time for both. Go to ManiaTV.com and click the "Live TV" tab at 5:00pm PST for a live stream... As always, the show will be up in archived rotation on Monday.

Well i won't be staying yup that late,
but if i was i would want to ask Perez does he feel like a bit of an outsider, or one of the "celebrity gang."
And why is he so fascinated with celebrity culture? doe he kind of love hate it?
Well thats what i'd ask if i was staying up.
Happy birthday. If you ate cake for everyday people had wished you happy birthday on myspace you'd be pretty fat by now.

This is kind of random...but I found it today (hopefully it's not already been around)...and she said such nice things about you I thought it might be cool to hear on your birthday...maybe she would make a good SE guest?
It is from an interview of Tanya Memme found at: http://en.epochtimes.com/news/7-6-7/56203.html
DS : Is there a celebrity you particularly felt comfortable to be around, either filming a television episode or interviewing?
TM : John Travolta was one of my absolute favourite interviews. He is incredibly introspective and fun to interview—has a great sense of humour. He's very relaxed and made me feel like I was the only one in the room. He definitely focuses in and pays attention and he cares.
Okay, this is going to sound funny. For ET Canada I did a lot of the interviewing for Rock Star: Super Nova , so I interviewed Tommy Lee and Dave Navarro. Dave Navarro, I totally fell in love with. I thought he was great. I mean, when you look at him, you think, "Wow, this guy is a real rocker." He is a very intelligent... again, very introspective, very smart. He knows a lot about a lot of things and all of his answers were very specific and he always backed up everything he said. I was pretty impressed, I have to say. He was one of the celebrities that I was most impressed with. From what you think you're going to hear and then you actually interview the person—he blew me away. I thought he was fantastic.

I'll join all the millions of other people wishing you HAPPY BIRTHDAY! on the actual day. I think if you'd had cake for everyone who'd wished you happy birthday, you'd be the size of a small planet with its own gravity well and a couple of orbiting satellites! When I had my 40th birthday holiday in the US, I had a pancake binge and ended up with an ass the size of a small planet, no satellites though. Americans do pancakes must better than the UK!
I missed out on commenting on the Manson review, so I'll do it now. I was going to be contentious and play devil's advocate, because I'm not so sure I agree entirely with many comments that were made.
I don't think a reviewer necessarily has to have in depth knowledge/ experience to write a valid review of any subject, be it music or whatever. If a critic is slamming someone's guitar playing ability/technique when they don't have a clue about music or guitars, then there is justification for the guitarist to be angry. The same can be said when a critic rips into a record and has nothing good to say but can't really explain why. An example I can think of is a UK music paper called the NME which has been going for years. The writers can't stand the RHCP and are abusive about anything and everything they do. Typical NME reviewer job interview -
Interviewer - Do you like the RHCP?
Applicant - No, I f***ing hate everything they do.
Interviewer - Great, you're hired!
That type of critic is just not worth reading. However, there are critics who I will read and trust, to a certain level, because experience in the past has taught me that they have similar tastes and what they have written is reasonable. Not all of these critics are experts in what they are reviewing. I wish I'd read a review of Spiderman 3 before I had 2 hours of life stolen from me a couple of weeks ago!
I have no musical ability whatsoever, but I know when I'm being tortured by bad music. I once suffered a traditional Burns Supper night of entertainment (basically a lot of Scottish singing and violin music) at a local village, i.e. amateurs. It was so bad I got a case of hysterical giggles while a bloke at our table just got very drunk and made loud comments. I suspect the entertainers would be angry because us table critics were not experts, however, it was one of the worst live music experiences I've ever endured.
A constructive, balanced review can, and should, interest the reader to investigate further, which is what I will do with the Manson record. I don't have any of his records and I'm not sure I could listen to a whole album of Manson, but after your review Dave, I'm curious. Ultimately, it's down to personal taste. If I don't like the Manson album, it doesn't matter how many reviews I read, who wrote them and what their experience is.
Better stop......sorry for the insanely long blurb and for disagreeing with comments of some very loyal Dave fans............SB
PS. Good luck with the show tonight!

Mickey Avalon, is he adorable or what? He barely looks 21, and he has a ten year old daughter, WOW. I loved the interview, and what he said about people who buy their fame. Perez, is too funny. How come you wouldn't take your shirt off for him baby? Homophobic? J/K
P.S. Did you eat some cake? I hope you get your pizza too! xoxo
