Miss Universe Wrap Up
Such an amazing time in Mexico for the Miss Universe show. Evidentially there is some controversy about the winner as there always is but I can tell you for sure, that we, the judges, were not influenced in the least by anyone or anything. It was a straight up and fair panel and collectively, we were very happy with Miss Japan taking the crown. Frankly, I was happy to see it go to someone who wasn't your typical pageant girl, but someone who was selected on personality and poise. It was a tough call as Miss Brazil and Miss Venezuela were serious contenders, but at the end of the day, Miss Japan was simply more engaging. As for the Miss USA spill on the stage, that was hard to watch, but she pulled it off and went on and continued to charm the panel. I was pretty shocked by the audience booing her when she made it to the final 5. It was pretty intense. I felt for her, but as it turned out she didn't win so I really didn't see what they were so up in arms about. It was trippy to see how seriously other countries take the contest, as they view these women as representatives of their nations. I suppose that to a degree they are, but here in the US, we kind of just go, "Hey, want to watch Miss Universe or CSI?" So, out of the final 5, I am happy that Miss Japan took it down. However, in my personal opinion, Puja Gupta: Miss India, was the real jewel of the evening. I did my best to champion her, but in the end, I am only one of 10 judges and I guess my efforts got lost in the shuffle. I was able to catch up with Puja for a brief moment at the after party and asked her to appear on SE. She is so charming and I have no doubt that she is going to be one of the ones to watch for in the coming year. Hopefully she will grace us with a few minutes the next time she comes through Los Angeles.

I don't see how you held it together when Miss USA ate it. There must have been a collective "OH!!!" heard around the world when it happened.
I was shocked also by Miss USA being booed by the crowd. You are right that to us in the US, this pagent is not a big deal. I only watched the show to see you, Dave.
I was wondering, was that "musical act" lip synching? It seemed like it. I can't believe that they sold out the Forum in seconds. (Maybe I just don't get it.)
I agree that Miss India was beautiful as most Indian women are. There is just something about them. Maybe it's their elegance or their history. Who knows.
It was great that you actually got to ask a question. It amused me that most of the contestants were on the fence with their answers. It was too wishy-washy for me. I was thinking... for gawd-sakes, take a stance.
Stay true.

Dave..Dave...Dave...come on.
A tall beautiful BALD Tanzanian. I'm telling you boo, any woman with a shaved head who could stand on a stage with more hair products used around her then the Paul Mitchell company puts out in a day?
Aces in my book.
And weren't you just a tiny weeeny curious to see if the crown could stay on her head?

I didn't see the entire pageant so I didn't see the girls' personalities, but based on appearance I was rooting for Miss Brazil, with Miss India coming in a close second. I was surprised to hear about the "booing" incident but then again it almost seems like the "politically correct" thing to do in other parts of the world.
I too am interested in what you thought about the group RBD that performed - were they as bad in person as they came across on TV?

Never caught the show, checked the TV listings but couldn't see it. Not normally interested, but seeing there is chat here about it, I'm curious now.
I've been trying to watch SE episode 2, but it's just all over the place. The sound is fine, but the picture is static. I watched half of it and just gave up frustrated. Last week's was fine so I'm hoping it is temporary - maybe the site is busy? It's a shame because last week was good, but this week is being ruined by the crap picture quality. Will try again another time.

I booed too, and quite rightly when Miss USA was chosen after falling on her can! It seemed to show the world that the judging was indeed 'rigged in advance.' No big surprise for a Trump production, but so sad that it was so apparently 'fixed.' Funny, and sadly ironic that she was the one to fall on her ass on Memorial Day, although I did feel bad for her too. What a statement it all made! I'm still smurking!

I was rooting for Miss India too, but she was not as animated in the evening gown competition. I know you look for the eyes, and hers are gorgeous!!! As for Miss USA, well she was probably booed because Miss USA is always in the top 5, even if she doesn't deserve to be. Personally, I don't think she's even pretty. My top 2 were Miss India, and Miss Venezuela. Thanks for sharing your choice. Talk about shocked, I was shocked when you called Miss Venezuela BABY!!! HaHa

BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was happy with Miss Japan....winning !!!!
Miss USA falling was upsetting but like many of us saw, she got up and ...kept herself poised and walked on....5th place is 5th place...she is in the top 5 !!!!!
You getting to ask a question was an "O Yeah" moment !

It's gotta be fixed....your best friend is married to an Asian woman, you sending, what were they 'orange blossoms' earlier this year, talking about Asian clothes too...you were on a roll....and now you judge Miss Universe, and a beautiful Asian woman wins...it's a conspiracy, Dave!

Dave, be careful with Miss India, an arrest warrant was issued for Richard Gere because he kissed Indian star Shilpa Shetty!!
