Sunday 10 & CFR
(Yeah, I don't have a Getty Images passowrd!)
Here is last night's CFR.
1. When you say you "hosted a party at...," -- does hosting mean JUST hosting/playing or does it mean you foot the bill for the whole shindig?
It means that I am hosting a party at a particular establishment and can invite whoever I want and kind of spend the evening with friends and family as well as any fans or general public that want to bring in the night with us. These things usually take place at a venue that is up and running so there really isn't a bill to speak of. I suppose if I was "throwing" a party it would be different.
2. Any word on a new season of Rockstar?
No, not yet. I do think that if it does happen, it would probably be in the fall and not the summer... But don't quote me on that. I am not 100% certain.
3. Most treasured possessions?
Actually I don't really own a lot of stuff as I like to be streamlined and able to move around at a moment's notice. I have my gear, my car, my computers, my clothes and my bathroom stuff and that's about it. Every couple of years I go through all of my stuff and sell it, throw it away or give it to the Salvation Army. I really don't like clutter so living streamlined keeps both my home and my head organized.
4. Why do you think the obsession with celebrities has exploded in the last few years and what does it say about today's society?
I blame the advent of the digital camera. EVERYBODY has a camera now. Combined with the Internet and the interest in celebrity gossip, which has always been there, it makes for everything to end up as a story. The bad news is that the most ridiculous and simple nothing of a story makes the news, but the good news is that SO much gets reported that these stories always last for about five minutes. As for what it says about society, I am not too sure. People have always had a morbid fascination in things. I mean... They have always slowed down to take a look when there is a traffic accident.
5. What type of artwork will spread entertainment be exhibiting/selling? Is it open to everyone?
It will be open to all and the first thing we are going to exhibit is this long awaited photobooth show that I have admittedly been dropping the ball on. Now that I am home, I am focusing my efforts to get it together along with some of the things that Todd and I are planning for the Spread TV thing.
6. Your secret to your multitasking energy is?
I pretty much just take on things that I enjoy. I get bored doing the same thing over and over so I like to mix it up all the time with different projects, cities and walks of life. I don't really know what the secret is. Maybe I just boil it all down to the fact that all you have to do is "show up," and things happen as a result. When I use the phrase "show up" I basically mean for life.
7. Do you ever use an alias when going to public places, like checking into a hotel, making reservations, or those sorts of things?
Sometimes I do. The last one I used was Kenneth H. Dahlberg. Dahlberg was the Midwest finance chairman for the Committee to Re-elect the President during President Richard M. Nixon's 1972 campaign. A check made out to Dahlberg in the amount of $25,000.00 had been deposited into the bank account of a real estate firm owned by Bernard Barker, one of the Watergate burglars. Yeah, I'm a huge fan of "All The President's Men."
8. If you could have a parallel life, not change the one you have now... But have a co existing life, what would you like that life to be like?
Who is to say that I don't have one already?
9. Whatever happened to the relationship advice segment of CFR?
You know, I think we just forgot about it. Thanx for the reminder.
10. What do you miss most about being on tour?
I'd say having absolutely no responsibilities with the exception of playing every night. That, and being around the guys all the time.

Donovan Leitch & Perez
Tonight was Perez Hilton's birthday party at The Roxy in Hollywood. Donovan was performing and asked me to join him for a rendition of Suffragette City, which I happily accepted. It was killer, but the real amazing moment of the night was when Donovan Sr. got up and did Season of the Witch. It was the first time that both father and son have ever taken the stage together and I was very honored to have seen it. I am sure that many of you have had the chance to see Donovan perform with Camp Freddy, but if you haven't, you gotta catch this kid live! He really is an amazing entertainer. Donovan will be performing at The Roxy on March 27th doing songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Phantom of the Paradise with Paul Williams himself!

It's All About The Versace Underwear
When you go head to toe Versace you really need to go beneath the surface to get the full effect! I can already hear it... "Why can't Navarro just keep his clothes on?" The answer? I don't really know! I guess when you have a really nice outfit on it's kind of like gift wrapping, it looks nice, but we really want to see what's going on underneath. Plus, most of you know how important underwear is to me. This photo was taken at the end of the runway at the Versace show in Vegas. I got all the way down there as was like, "Fuck it! These are the jam! Check out these everybody!" After the show Riss, Todd and I all went out late night style, then Todd and I hit the poker room at Caesar's till 7:00am. The next night was pretty much exactly the same. Versace, clubs, food then poker time. The first night I lost but I came back on the second night and even cranked ahead. Now I am home with some time off and a serious card bug so I have a feeling I'll be creeping around the LA casinos late night.

Miami to Vegas
The Miami trip with Camp Freddy was quick, amazing and a lot of fun. We performed in-between two DJ acts, DJ AM & Travis and Paul Oakenfold. We were totally prepared for the audience to be more of the dance oriented type with plenty of yawns during the rocker set, but they were just fantastic with tons of energy and enthusiasm. It was quite a difference from the TV audiences that I am used to playing for during the Supernova shows. Highlights from the show included Disturbed's David Draiman doing Man in the Box and Whole Lotta Love. Damn, can that boy sing! Loud and strong. Steve Jones joined us for Bodies and also sang it. That was a blast. Doing a Sex Pistols song with a Sex Pistol is kind of the only way to go. Mark McGrath brought it with Cat Scratch Fever and Cantrell with Jailbreak. Billy Duffy joined us for Love Removal with Brett Scallions on the mic. It was a killer 90 minute set and after we all kind of split off into different directions into the Miami night. I hosted a party at Mansion and was joined by Jerry, followed by a stop by the new spot, Set. The rest of the night was all about texts flying around between everybody saying, "we are here... come here... no, wait, we left there, now we are here... stop by this..." All in all I think we hit about five places joining up with Donovan, Mark, Duffy, Sorum and all. Naturally, I didn't sleep so when I got home, my nap turned into a 12 hour slumber. Now I am just about to get packing for Vegas. Four days there to do a few things with Versace and then my travel for the month is done.

1. Do you have a favorite place/attraction to hit when in Vegas?
Not really. I am one of those guys who enjoys having no specific plans in Vegas and just kind of likes to see where he ends up on a given night. I suppose Pure at Caesar's is my base camp, but I could easily find myself playing poker at The Palms, at a nightclub, at a random residence, having a room full of strangers, sitting in a lobby bar at 6:00am and sharing a beverage and a conversation with the pimps and hookers or all of the above. I just love the town for that temporary suspension of daily reality.
2. Do you ever miss the dark and wild side?
No, not at all, because it is alive and well! The only difference for me now is that I can wake up and remember everything and not kill myself in the process with drugs. The dark side is way fun when you visit it once in a while, but it sucks super hard when you don't have choice in the matter.
3. After your years of sobriety, are you still ever tempted (particularly on tour) or are those urges pretty much "out of your system"?
For the most part they are, but a continued plan of prayer, helping others, and journaling keeps my head on pretty straight.
4. How did you kick sugar?
Wow I have been asked this so many times that I guess I'll just answer it. I honestly just stopped eating it. I guess that putting down drugs was a factor in the sense that I told myself that if I could do that I could quit the sugar. You have to be ready though... Just like anything, if you are not ready you won't do it. (I mean, I still smoke, so... ) I was just over sugar hang overs and everything else that comes with it. Now I allow a day a week to have whatever I want, but it has been so long that I usually forget or just skip it.
5. Why do celebrities complain about the paparazzi and then go to all the places where they know they're going to photographed? E.g You and your friend... Why did you go to the Ivy to have lunch?
Well, for starters we didn't go to The Ivy. I had simply walked over to a restaurant after the gym. Look, I just think that there is a time and a place for that stuff. If I go to an event or a show or a nightclub, I expect that photographers will be there. That is part of the gig and have no problem with that. The problem is when it is an invasion of personal life such as lunch or shopping or hang time with a friend. Honestly, it only happens to me once in a while so I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone who is actually famous. Plus, it's not like the pictures get positive and factual captions. It's usually some conclusion jump or an opportunity to point out how "bad" so and so looks, etc. It just feels like they go out their way to catch someone in a day to day circumstance that doesn't look good, then they sell it to turn a profit. As I have said before... If you follow ANYONE around long enough, you will catch them doing something that LOOKS bad, or not at their best or in a situation that appears compromising. Whatever... Some days I am OK with all of it, others I am not. It's a mood thing. I remember once after my divorce, a film crew was waiting outside my gym at like 10:00am. I lunged for the camera and the video guy got struck in the face with the lens. He started shouting "lawsuit" and "assault." I was shocked and way pissed. Then he said, "If you are gonna be in the public eye, this is what you should expect!" I replied, "...And if you are going to follow people around, you should expect to run into some pretty pissed off subjects." It's funny in hindsight. We talked it out and nothing came of it. They are not ALL bad. Sometimes a photographer will identify himself and ask permission. I am usually cool with that.
6. If you'd been in love with someone for like 7 years and you weren't sure if that person felt the same way...would you tell this person your feelings...risking rejection and hurt?
Yes, I most certainly would. Not sound morbid or anything but we are all going to die. We may as well follow our hearts. Even if the feeling isn't mutual, there is a gift in knowing that you have walked through the fear of expressing yourself.
7. Where you cool in high school or were you too "out there" for your peers?
Me and my friends (Perkins, etc.) were the cool ones. It was EVERYBODY ELSE, that was "out there"!!!
8. Have you or would you read the book "The Secret"? Do you have any comments on it?
Yeah I did. Well, no, not really... I saw the movie, but still, it is full of great ideas and spiritual principles. For me, I just take elements of different schools of spiritual thought and intertwine them into something that works for me. As I have said before, my idea of what God is changes all the time as I evolve or devolve, whatever the case may be. The Secret is an all around good way of training yourself to think in terms of positive reinforcement and I have certainly brought elements of this into my life. Of course, I like to remain open to new ideas as they come my way, so I didn't close the door on what I can learn after having seen it.
9. Have you met anyone that you were in AWE of?
Not really... But when I met my hot neighbor, I was in "Awwww"!
10. Curiosity is taking over TPC boards over the new tattoo as well. Most of us are thinking it has something to do with Roxy Saint?
Damn straight! That's my homey for life, Roxy! The ink, however, is not new.
Off to Miami... I'll re-open when we return.

Keeping It Over Here!
(Photo: Deena - Me and Riss, my friend and manager... In that order.) Well, I finally did it! After weeks of going back and forth on the issue I decided to delete the MySpace profile. I have a new one that is in place for personal friends and family... People I see on a regular basis, but that's it. I only have a handful of friends and it is manageable now. I was a lot happier over here with the real family. Plus, it just got to a point where I was getting nothing but spam anyway. I ended up not checking it for days, deleting pages at a time and missing out on actual mail. So now we are back to square one. The funny thing is, I have already received hate mail from people who are pissed that I deleted the MS page. I remember when people were pissed that I ever signed up to begin with. I guess you can never win. It was fun while it lasted but it was so clearly time to move on.
Having said that, on to other things. Riss and I had a great time in Atlantic City, and Vegas last week, except for when Riss had an asthma attack and we had to get her to the hotel doctor right away. She quickly recovered after a dose of oxygen and off we went. A little scare that proved to be nothing more. In AC, we hit a party then had dinner with Deena and her friend. In the Las Vegas airport, I finally met Biinstinctual and she was really kind, helping us out of a miserable line/zone mess. This week Camp Freddy is doing that thing in Miami and then I am going back to Vegas for a couple more days. Then, my travel will be finished for a while and I can get back to writing music, working on the new loft space and finally getting that photo art show together. Whew! It already feels way more mellow just working on this site alone. Thanx for sticking around.
How about a ten? Awwwww!!!! I missed it here.

The Day B4 The East Side
What's cooking everyone? Just checking in. It has been a slow period following the tour for the past couple weeks. Nothing much to report. Tomorrow I roll out to AC for a day or so then a stop off in Vegas, both trips are for simple party events and nothing more. It should be a great time because frankly, I miss the traveling and I am not really in the out and about mood in LA right now. Unfortunately, this means I will once again be out of the studio for this week's Camp Freddy Radio. Last night I finally saw Pan's Labyrinth and I must say that it is incredible. Check it out if you haven't already. It is almost two films in one... A perfect cocktail of fantasy and brutality. Lost. What can I say? I am three years invested and almost feel like I have a relationship with the characters, but the story lines are starting to become random and disconnected. I don't know why I can't bring myself to break away from it. I owe you guys 5 more so here they are:
1. Have you ever had any crazy insane fan or fans that you have had to get a restraining order on?
No, thank God... But I have had people get super crazy angry when I don't take a picture with them. Lord, they get nasty. You would be amazed! One day I will list some responses I have gotten including some e-mail that would blow your mind. As I have said before, I do them when it's appropriate and I am not just out there living my life: in an airport or eating or spending time with a friend. EVERYBODY has a digital camera now so it has gotten way worse. Once a flash goes off in a public place it gets out of control so I pretty much avoid pictures all together. Nobody wants to just say hello and shake hands anymore.
2. Do you love us as much as we love you?
Well, I love most of you as much, probably more, but there is always that very special once in a while where somebody shows up and posts that I'm not so sure I love all that much! I mean, I do in that "general love for humanity" kind of way, but unfortunately, humanity has produced some pretty fucked up people!
3. Can you avoid the places where the paparazzi hang? It seems as though they're everywhere these days.
Some cities have a rat or a cockroach problem, LA has it's own.
4. Nice link to Perez site. Notice the antennae he drew on Dave's hat? What's up with that?
Given the options of what he usually draws on people, I'll take the antennae any day!
5. Are you at all involved in the new show Paradise City?
No, not at all. In fact, I have never heard of it.

Sunday 5
Here is last night's Camp Freddy Radio. I can hit a Sunday 10 today...
1. Does your nail polish get chipped when playing guitar?
Of course it does, but that is part of the charm. I prefer it when my nails have that whorish, junky, slutty street trash vibe to them.
2. Is Siggy taking over for Chris in a permanent way?
Honestly, that is an issue we haven't even addressed yet as we have just returned and haven't spoken about it yet. Put it this way... They are both amazing and incredible players and musicians. We can't lose.
3. Also, have you caught RSSN video? I saw the whole clip today. Awesome to see you and Perk in there!!!
Thanx for pointing that out! I had no idea... Rad!
4. You said before you avoid sugar like heroin. Does that mean none ever?
Well, I avoid sugar like heroin, but I also use it like heroin... Meaning that when I DO consume sugar, I go big!
5. Thoughts on Van Halen entering the Hall of Fame?
Every time I hear of a band being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, I am always amazed that they aren't in there already. Like last year's Black Sabbath induction. I mean... Who the fuck IS in there anyway? As for VH... It's about time!

Re-Entry
It has been a fairly smooth re-entry into the LA atmosphere. I have caught up on Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Heroes and Battlestar, coffee still works in the morning, everything is unpacked, laundered and put away, a little hair and nails and... Voila! It's almost like nothing even happened. Billy and I will be back in the studio on Saturday night for another installment of Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1FM from 6pm-8pm PST. I am really looking forward to being back at the station with my partner as it feels like it has been forever since we have done a show. It will be nice to reconnect with Billy as we have a big Camp Freddy show coming up on March 17th in Miami. Ahhhh... Nothing like St. Patrick's Day South Beach style! Still, lots of travel in my future... Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Miami, Las Vegas again, Toronto (none music related). Once I know the dates and what I am doing at these locations I will post them.
