10

1. Do you have a favorite place/attraction to hit when in Vegas?

Not really. I am one of those guys who enjoys having no specific plans in Vegas and just kind of likes to see where he ends up on a given night. I suppose Pure at Caesar's is my base camp, but I could easily find myself playing poker at The Palms, at a nightclub, at a random residence, having a room full of strangers, sitting in a lobby bar at 6:00am and sharing a beverage and a conversation with the pimps and hookers or all of the above. I just love the town for that temporary suspension of daily reality.

2. Do you ever miss the dark and wild side?

No, not at all, because it is alive and well! The only difference for me now is that I can wake up and remember everything and not kill myself in the process with drugs. The dark side is way fun when you visit it once in a while, but it sucks super hard when you don't have choice in the matter.

3. After your years of sobriety, are you still ever tempted (particularly on tour) or are those urges pretty much "out of your system"?

For the most part they are, but a continued plan of prayer, helping others, and journaling keeps my head on pretty straight.

4. How did you kick sugar?

Wow I have been asked this so many times that I guess I'll just answer it. I honestly just stopped eating it. I guess that putting down drugs was a factor in the sense that I told myself that if I could do that I could quit the sugar. You have to be ready though... Just like anything, if you are not ready you won't do it. (I mean, I still smoke, so... ) I was just over sugar hang overs and everything else that comes with it. Now I allow a day a week to have whatever I want, but it has been so long that I usually forget or just skip it.

5. Why do celebrities complain about the paparazzi and then go to all the places where they know they're going to photographed? E.g You and your friend... Why did you go to the Ivy to have lunch?

Well, for starters we didn't go to The Ivy. I had simply walked over to a restaurant after the gym. Look, I just think that there is a time and a place for that stuff. If I go to an event or a show or a nightclub, I expect that photographers will be there. That is part of the gig and have no problem with that. The problem is when it is an invasion of personal life such as lunch or shopping or hang time with a friend. Honestly, it only happens to me once in a while so I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone who is actually famous. Plus, it's not like the pictures get positive and factual captions. It's usually some conclusion jump or an opportunity to point out how "bad" so and so looks, etc. It just feels like they go out their way to catch someone in a day to day circumstance that doesn't look good, then they sell it to turn a profit. As I have said before... If you follow ANYONE around long enough, you will catch them doing something that LOOKS bad, or not at their best or in a situation that appears compromising. Whatever... Some days I am OK with all of it, others I am not. It's a mood thing. I remember once after my divorce, a film crew was waiting outside my gym at like 10:00am. I lunged for the camera and the video guy got struck in the face with the lens. He started shouting "lawsuit" and "assault." I was shocked and way pissed. Then he said, "If you are gonna be in the public eye, this is what you should expect!" I replied, "...And if you are going to follow people around, you should expect to run into some pretty pissed off subjects." It's funny in hindsight. We talked it out and nothing came of it. They are not ALL bad. Sometimes a photographer will identify himself and ask permission. I am usually cool with that.

6. If you'd been in love with someone for like 7 years and you weren't sure if that person felt the same way...would you tell this person your feelings...risking rejection and hurt?

Yes, I most certainly would. Not sound morbid or anything but we are all going to die. We may as well follow our hearts. Even if the feeling isn't mutual, there is a gift in knowing that you have walked through the fear of expressing yourself.

7. Where you cool in high school or were you too "out there" for your peers?

Me and my friends (Perkins, etc.) were the cool ones. It was EVERYBODY ELSE, that was "out there"!!!

8. Have you or would you read the book "The Secret"? Do you have any comments on it?

Yeah I did. Well, no, not really... I saw the movie, but still, it is full of great ideas and spiritual principles. For me, I just take elements of different schools of spiritual thought and intertwine them into something that works for me. As I have said before, my idea of what God is changes all the time as I evolve or devolve, whatever the case may be. The Secret is an all around good way of training yourself to think in terms of positive reinforcement and I have certainly brought elements of this into my life. Of course, I like to remain open to new ideas as they come my way, so I didn't close the door on what I can learn after having seen it.

9. Have you met anyone that you were in AWE of?

Not really... But when I met my hot neighbor, I was in "Awwww"!

10. Curiosity is taking over TPC boards over the new tattoo as well. Most of us are thinking it has something to do with Roxy Saint?

Damn straight! That's my homey for life, Roxy! The ink, however, is not new.

Off to Miami... I'll re-open when we return.

Dave, so fucking glad to have you back. Your response to the #5 question, perfect. Even if you are famous, you still deserve the respect of others, just as you give to others.

Hope your day is going well.....

Lots of Love Bratty

That's rad!

I think you are on the famous side, like what with the "actauly famous" bit? Pretty craise, is it a levels thing? Because I feel that even when people are constantly in the spot light, there are still people who aren't aware of them.. Everyone has different awareness levels I suppose...

Ja, oh and do you feel nuttiness helps people become cool(er)? As in like with Britney Spears, I'd say she's way radder now and the behaviour has made her interesting, at least to me , well, maybe not.. Just more so than before, where there really was no interest whatsoever... Tehee!

Hey Dave! So glad you decided to put all your focus on 6767. I know you just got done touring..but what is next for The Panic Channel? Y'all going back in the studio or going to head back out for another tour, a tour like the Spring 2006 tour??
Hope your having a good day!

I've really missed your postings Dave. I went to bed at midnight, and now you've already posted twice. Have fun in Miami, wish I could be there.

On CFR you mentioned that you were getting tired of the LA scene. Are you planning on moving, or just getting away as often as possible?

Posted by: Linda from San Diego at March 15, 2007 01:02 PM

Afternoon, Dave. :-) I'm just dropping by with some hugs and a "good on ya, man" for making some very savvy, life-affirming choices and sticking with them. They definitely look--and sound--great on you. :-)

As for the "vulture press," the ironic thing is they generally bother you when you are doing something perfectly normal or responsible. How sad that they have to try and make a buck off of 'earthshattering' events like you visiting the gym or going out to dinner with friends. I think you muck with their radar because you're a good guy with a 'bad boy' image. You *look* like something they could sink their greedy little fangs into... But, they're left grasping at air and fabricating events when they try. The thing that bugs me is you're the type of person that already gives so much to everyone around you, I really wish folks would stay out of your personal and private life. Ah, well, 'if wishes were fishes,' hey? Peace to you and all the peeps. :-)

Two things:
1. How do people leave comments in the future? It's 12:51pm and the above comment was left at 1:02pm. Or is it that you are always 11 miutes ahead of everybody else?
B. Please comment on the VR/VH question.

Damn Dave!

Are you going to start spoiling us again by posting every day????? Love the way this used to be and am anxious to see it coming back!

Always,
me

Glad you are back - and I think it's fine you deleted your MSpage - streamline your life - it's all good.
Keep up that praying, helping others & journaling sweetheart, you are an inspriation in more ways than one - and to so many more than you know, in ALL walks of life.
FWIW - You LOOK sooo good now too that you've kicked the drug habit - I know it's a 'duh' thing, but I swear you're aging backwards & just look vibrant & full of life. There is a light in you that is strong, healthy & rich - that was not there when you were using.
Glad to have you back - missed you much!
Thank you for sharing the sugar kicking info - any more at any time you have to share will be greatly appreciated. I'm kicking it now - it's a bitch....kicking anything bad for you is though...but worth the journey.
Kiss kiss love!

I think it's cool to have a personal myspace - particularly when any public net presence opens you up to abuse - such as people who troll this site just to be mean!

Peace and love

would you ever change tunings during a solo ala eddie van halen or too self indulgent?

Posted by: TeddyT at March 15, 2007 01:29 PM

Hahaha.

Spencer, I totally agree about Britney.

I can't tell you how hard I laughed when I saw the footage of her going apeshit on that SUV with the umbrella, or at the countless Picard photoshops.

Sure, it's sad and all, but mildly amusing.

I wonder if she's just pulling our legs or what?

Playing the pity me publicity card.

Who knows.

Just keep talking baby we LOVE hearing from ya....;-)

I have been a lurker here for along time. I enjoy reading your posts as well as most of the remarks. I've dedided to come out of the dark to ask a top ten: Where you cool in high school or were you too "out there" for your peers?

Posted by: Amy at March 15, 2007 01:40 PM

And Dave;

If I was accosted by the Paparazzi, I think I would challenge them to a duel or something, Karate Kid or Mortal Kombat style.

Do a little 'GET OVER HERE!' a la Scorpion.

They'd probably fight for the amusement factor.

All lawsuits dropped after a Flawless Victory.

Haha.

Posted by: Amber-Lynn AKA Serpentia at March 15, 2007 01:42 PM

Okay I lied I do have a question.

Q. I'm reading "Whores" right now. When I got to the Dave Navarro early life section I had to laugh when I read a cousin describe you as a bully, who would take away the other kids toys.

Were you really a spoiled brat? If so, that explains a lot.

Just kiddin' xoxox

Posted by: Dawna at March 15, 2007 01:46 PM

One last thing!

I found that when I closed my public MySpace, my domain (which was Serpentia.Org, you may remember a certain Camp Freddy Christmas show where you and Billy talked to me and I mentioned a 'Stocking you can stuff anytime', hahaha) got spammed with anonymous comments and hatemail to the point of having to make readers register and get their posting account approved.

Hopefully the same BS doesn't happen here!

<3

Posted by: Amber-Lynn AKA Serpentia at March 15, 2007 01:47 PM

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude! I am so waiting for the day you put up the "Navarro Manifesto"!! Just let 'er rip!!

It would be so awesome!

Dave,
I was just reading some of your questions and answers here. This question (in sense I guess) is in regards to the answer you gave for question number three and your sobriety. You answered that prayer and being good to others has helped you. Have you or would you read the book "The Secret"? Do you have any comments on it? Or on its basis?

Hello Dave

welcome back from a great tour with TPC, etal

glad the east coast was fun

thanks for the great music and sharing your life with us...it is an honor to know you and write on your website

looking forward to all the new music with TPC...the loft idea and camp freddy radio

a happy early spring to you and the 6767 family

peace to all of you

It's always refreshing to see an update ... and even more refreshing to hear that you're having such an awesome time doing whatever it is that you're doing.

I'm not at all heartbroken about the MS page. It's not like you report anything over there that you don't report here anyway.

Okay, random ass question that doesn't have anything to do with anything. It's more like a stupid curiosity thing. In one of the headers of the 6767 page, there's a person with their mouth wide open, like they're yelling. Who is that? Anyone that you know? (Probably the dumbest question ever asked.)

Love ya, babe.

Hey Dave, glad you are back safe and sound. Seems like you are getting really good at the LA-Miami-Vegas circuit! I went from Seattle to Ft. Myers, Florida and back a few weeks ago and that trip almost killed me, haha. I rather enjoy travelling by car, but travelling by plane is just ridiculous anymore.

Can't wait to hear some new music from you in the months to come -- and as always thanks for the glimpse into your world!

I'm trying to catch up! I've been really busy trying to put together enough work for a show (I paint).... DAVE....#1) Do you know why you weren't included in the VH1 Classic Poker Tourn. ? You would have been a better choice than the others! Moi! #2) I have been in love with the guitar all of my life and when I hear a solo that just rips I am overcome with sexual energy (it's really quite dangerous!) Do you feel the same way when you play?...Lastly, I saw RHCP here in Houston at the Toyota Center and I must say, the whole "stadium" thing just left me feeling so disconnected. Don't get me wrong, they jammed, but it didn't even feel like I was there. UNLIKE when TPC was here at the Meridian and I got to stand at your feet while you and your guitar twisted my insides, in a good way! You've ruined me for all others! I hope it won't be long before you come around this way again and even though I wish you "stadium-sized success" I hope you keep it personal...much love from Tejas!

I am trying to kick cigarettes - again. I had a very bad asthma attack a little over 2 weeks ago and have not smoked since. Really hard not to now that I am feeling better - that's the insanity of any addiction, huh? I feel for your manager. Trying to breathe is like sucking air through a coffee stirrer. Sugar has never been an issue but I am coming up on 3 years clean and sober - April 1 - April Fool's day - ha ha. Congratulations on your continued sobriety and how you stay that way. I believe that you are an enlightened soul and that you seem to strive for continued growth. And I hate to say it but if I saw you in public, I would probably scare you with my screech - ha ha. I would be too excited which is why God has not allowed me to meet you - lol

Wow, I'm impressed with all the thought provoking responses to the questions.

I have read some comments on other sites about 6767, and that it's really you, but they think you dictate and someone else types it up. My feelings are that you wouldn't let anyone else type for you, do you?

"As I have said before, my idea of what God is changes all the time as I evolve or devolve, whatever the case may be."
-----------------
Well put, I totally agree.

So, did your parents raise you with a certain organized religion? If I remember correctly you went to catholic school...did you subscribe to the catholic beliefs during any of that time? If so, when/why did you realize that wasn't for you?

(btw, this question comes from a "recovering catholic") :)

Dave -- Welcome back. Just for the record there are still some good guys out there with the cameras. My crew hate the fucking paparazzi as much as the celebrities. They give all photographers a bad name.
I make each of them sign a waiver in their contract that they cannot do any paparazzi style photography. Hopefully some laws will get passed soon before some on gets hurt and come on most the photos suck. Everybody deserves to have a life.

Thanks that music.

Hi Dave! Hi All!

It's been been forever once again since I last posted a comment. Been following things around here, anyway. Damn, I've really missed you, the vibe and the Family!

Too bad about the MySpace thing, but I totally see your point. I mean, the whole Myspace experience is supposed to be a good thing, right?! Anything beyond that is a good reason to put the shit to rest.

One thing I also want to bring up as well is the TPC album. Having had enough time to LISTEN, evaluate and ponder, I finally think I'm able to give an objective view on some things. I mean, unsuccessful musicians always have to be really anal and ASSess those who they're inferior to.. hahaha. Anyhow, me and my bandmates have come to a conclusion that you show an unforeseen amount of versatility in your playing on this album. It really is great! Should I think it were crap, I probably wouldn't bring it up. I wonder what it is that's brought so much of range to your sound and the musical choices you've come up with? Any new toys on the pedalboard or other gear you haven't been using previously? I know that most of the time it's got nothing to do with the equipment you're using and I think Eric Avery gave me a good truth when I once asked him about the gear he was using at the time, by saying "i generally believe that once you get to a certain equipment brand and quality level it becomes more about the writer than the pen".

On to other subjects, I just realized it's three weeks until NIN plays a gig here in Helsinki. Having bought the tickets a good six months ago, it came as a small surpise, but it definitely gave me a mental hard-on.

Keep it real, everyone!

Anna Keeling~ ...when I readTMZ.com that afternoon in Febuary, I thought they Were trying 2 be cute, in a sort of sick way, until I actually read more than headline~ Young Hollywood seems 2 have sobered up a bit and that darling, as an OG starlette may have said, "ain't a bad thing." Our own mortality and haircuts have been over thought, of late, (only) in Hollywood. R.I.P., sweet Anna~
