Suicide Girl, Addie, nudes up and reads up! Thanx for the "Don't Try This At Home" plug, you sexy little thing!
1. Now, what is the story with The Hat? It looked great on you but..... Would have loved to see you without it as well!
No real story... Just feeling the hat this tour.
2. Heard RSSN added Suffragette City to the mix and you played lead guitar...will you guys continue that, I'd love to see that one in Portland.
I have done it when they asked and just kind of got up there and rocked it with them. It's not a real "part of the show" or a "thing"... It's one of those moments that happens every now and again when you are out on tour with a band for a while. You end up jamming at one time or another.
3. Did you eat the treats I sent to the bus?
Well, I avoid sugar like it's heroin, but Steve Isaacs put quite a dent in them! We had to pry one of the tins away from his hands while he was asleep one night. We all thank you very much Angel.
4. How do you sleep in the bus when someone else is snoring?
Well, frankly, I don't ever sleep on it while it is moving. I let everyone else go to sleep and around 7:00-8:00am when the bus stops, I go to sleep and wake up around 4:00pm. I avoid the snoring, the moving, the motor sound, the windy roads and I don't have to occupy myself all day. I get up, shower and play a show. At night I just watch movies, talk on the phone and dig into some quiet personal time.
5. Have you been reading the reviews and how do you deal with this crap?
It's funny! You know, I don't think any writer is going to come to a concert that was spawned from a TV show with the intention of enjoying themselves. The bottom line is this: We are doing what we love... These poor bastards are having to spend their personal time writing about something they claim they don't like. How sad is that? I know that if I didn't like something, I'd hate to have to go home and spend more time on it just to make rent. Don't worry boys... I'm sure that big book deal is just around the corner!

Hey Dave,
Love the podcasts from the tour. When your playing on stage do you focus on whats going on in the crowed and the various faces, or just what your doing and doing what you do on stage?
Posted by: Kelly at February 10, 2007 03:47 AM
hi dave, how you doing? great to hear from you, i imagine you typing on your laptop right now, seeing what's going on on the web.
i read a lot of the reviews and notice that even when the paper's "music critic" is sort of luke warm to the shows, they always have good things to say about TPC and specifically your guitar skills.
but its getting to be more common for stars to come out of arranged shows, nothing wrong with that, to have formats where people like lucas can be discovered by wider audience.
dave, you're still the man when it comes to guitar and feeling the music and the work of your bandmates onstage, its great to watch you!

Hi DN,
Thank you for answering me. Laughed and delighted to hear you think the review arses are funny, that's nice - such a good wholesome attitude, you may as well laugh since I do all the getting wound up on your behalf!! Also, with that revelation about your sleeping habits am left wondering now if Spike or Angel bit you one time many years ago.. Or maybe it was Drusilla! lol!
Have a great weekend.

Ah, thanks Dave - the pretzels had no sugar!
Any word on a new RS this summer?
How are you dealing with the cold?
Andre's birthday is Valentine's Day. He will be 11. Would you wish him a happy birthday, again? He wants to learn to play the guitar - any advice for a beginner?

Trust me, it's much more fun to poke at something than it is to review it seriously. The world isn't ready for a rockstar spawned from a reality TV show. The whole venture, while may be great to watch on TV has absolutely no credibility in the end. I'm really glad that this whole money-grabbing scheme fell on it's ass. It gives me faith in the American public that they actually do retain some taste in music.
And I bet if someone asked you twenty years ago if it's possible to artificially create a rock band, you would have said the same thing.
Admit it.

Thanks for the updates, Dave. They are entertaining and actually make us feel like we're in touch with what you're doing out there.
Lucky you left Toronto before it got colder, because it did, and it is, and I'm heading to Mexico in a couple of days to get away from it all. Come back for a summer concert, if you can.
You guys rocked it out nicely in Toronto. I got to meet Steve, he stood with me to videotape Lukas and Toby singing and parts of the rest of the Supernova show, that alone being another highlight of the night. Keep on keepin' on. Stay away from the sugar.
You couldn't have said it better re the reviews. It wouldn't be very cool of them to actually be open-minded about the situation, would it?

Thanks, Dave, for keeping us all up to date and entertained. I, like many, look forward to reading your views and news, and miss you when you take a break from sharing. I hope you enjoy the remainder of the tour while you rock on!
Question: What do you miss most when you're out on tour?
Thanks again!

Hi, Dave. :-) Hope you guys enjoy your day (or night ^^) off/travel day. That's the kind of schedule I prefer. Up at night, when it's peaceful and quiet (great time to write or catch up on reading), and then nap in the morning. :-)
Yeah, I'd definitely say you lads have the better deal, between rockin' out or writing reviews. Although, amazingly, now and again there is someone that actually attends a show with their ears open and their minds not locked into narrow, preconceived notions. Wish it happened more often. But, if you fellows are enjoying playing/performing and the fans are having an awesome concert experience, that's what matters. :-)
I'm still hearing from lots of peeps that enjoy the TPC set so much, their reaction is to rush out and buy "ONe" shortly afterwards. :-) I come across many compliments for you, Steve and the guys amongst fans that are coming to know TPC through this tour. :-)
Peace to you and all the peeps. :-) Wishing you love, travel blessings and all good things. :-)

Hey Dave, thanks for the update.
A question for the next 5: Do you spend a lot of time with the other bands on tour with you?
I was watching some of Dilana and Magni's updates and it seems to be just the two of them. If so, who do you usually chillax with?
Posted by: Cynthia at February 10, 2007 10:39 AM
I'm working on my own review, BK style. I'll post the thread when I'm done... funny thing is the reviewers are probably like, 12 and have no clue or respect for musicians that have been in the game what, over 20 years? I actually forgot I was at a rock show born from a TV reality show. BTW Dilana killed it too and I hope she goes far in her career.
Peace,
Slice xo

Enjoyed the show last night in Fargo, disappointed that RS didn't give us an encore..... Do some of these venues have some sort of kick em out by 11:00 clause? Magni and Dilana sounded great, even with so little time to rehearse together!

I went to a show the other night (Flyleaf) and the opening two bands were locals. One of the guitar players was a mini Dave. I swear. No shirt, hat and great on guitar. I tried getting a picture, but no dice.
Did you get that crazy vibe I sent to the bus? ;P
Posted by: Jenn at February 10, 2007 12:59 PM
Dave, do you sit up front with the driver while everyone sleeps? Shotgun! Awesome! (note to self, limit "awesome!" in vocabulary any replacement suggestions for "awesome?")

LOVE your answer to #5. IMO, it is SO important to be doing something you love.
I could never sleep in a moving vehicle either. The motion freaks me out. I'm also kinda obsessed about my alone time, so your bus situation sounds ideal.

Hey DAVEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!, I caught you guys last night in Fargo ND. The show was surprisingly much greater than I anticipated and you guys were the bomb. TPC I mean! BUT,,, what's the deal on the fact that they did NO ENCORE!!!!!
I'm 50 years old, been to more GREAT CONCERTS than I can really remember, and I mean THE BIGGEST rockers of all time. Those artists always did encores till they dropped dead. My whole life, if I ever went to a concert and they didn't feel like we deserved an encore, (and belive me, I am not alone on this) no encore, NO BUY!!!!, t-shirts, records, or ever put another dollar in thier pockets,,,,ever! I vote with my feet, and my wallet. I know this isn't on TPC or you but just pass the thought along to your RSSN buddies. Remember, my generation is the one with all the $$$$$. When the lights went up, the whole place was yelling NO ENCORE? We got an encore in Canada! What the hell? Nice to know the small, frozen towns don't deserve an encore.
Our money is just as green as anywhere else.
Some people drove 12 and 15 hrs from Canada to see that show. YOU and TPC aren't to blame but you can have a chat with the guys who are.
Signed me,
one pissed off old hippy in MN. But still love ya.

Wow, Dave, is Kendra Jade really your "homey for life" as she claims? Here's why I ask...I remember in one SRL where she mentioned wanting to live with you (you laughed). And now she is STEALING your Sunday 10 idea and doing her own version! I think the proper term might be "stalker for life"?

Hey Dave, It's so nice to see that you read your comments and I do appreciate your personal answer to Joe on the other blog. I'm so sorry that (eour meeting with you in Connecticut got screwed up. Especially since I made something very special for everyone and had it with me, but even after trying everything I could think of, I couldn't get them to you everyone. Being disabled it's not that easy trying to carry things (especially since I needed two boxes to package it all and the boxes where over 40 pounds combined)so to say I was very disappointed wouldn't even cut it. This extra hundred dollar charge was sent to Sabrina in LA. She's going to get them out to everyone for me. After working so hard I really wanted to see your face when you saw it but I guess it's my lose and I love you anyways. I myself want to thank you for letting Joe know that you'll personally take care of the problem when you come back around. Hope it's soon. Can't wait to just see a show with TPC. You guys really rock. Much love, stay safe and healthy. Hope to see you soon and hope to hear from you about the package.

Dave, been wondering for years now - where did you get those big bug-eyed glasses you wore, probably in the Spread era?
I know you have them in some art for Trust No One CD sleeve. I want a pair, even if it's a knockoff! I saw some similar ones on eBay, but I don't think they're pitch black.

Hey Dave! Great 5 so far.
What are your/TPC plans when the RSSN tour is over? Hopefully a Spring or Summer tour is in the works for TPC only. That would rock!
You mentioned that Steve has a sweet tooth. What are your, Siggy and Perk's vices when you're out on the road?
Do you fight over the remote control? Anyone monopolize it or does everyone take turns? Be nice... ;)

Hi Dave,
Loved Loved Loved the show last night in Fargo - everyone entertained and I think the crowd was really into the evening. You looked incredibly good and I have a sweet picture of you that I will send you when I get back home to SK - wish I had more but you never quit moving long enough. I was in the third row - unfortunately not close enough to share a smoke with you - maybe next time. Keep on rocking!
P.S. I think we all know that critics don't buy concert tickets......
Posted by: StaceyLou at February 10, 2007 10:08 PM
Hey Tammi why so cynical?
Just wondering.
Thing is - times change and what fitted 20 years ago doesn't so much nowadays.
Or do you reckon that the rock industry has it so right with their record deals and contracts, lack of promotion and lack of support for their own new bands that we don't need the injection of TV into music?
What is credibility? How does one achieve it? Does it actually matter when it comes down to rockin out having fun and good old timeless entertainment?
Do you think that Lukas is talent-less? And anyone else out of a TV generated show has zero talent because of the way in which they entered the industry? Maybe talent is something that can only occur from busking or happens via being "discovered" accidentally or even something that is picked up - like a packet of crisps on a shelf? Can't Lukas have fought and won a competition and then go on tour with a bunch of other folk who are doing something that they love?
Don't get me wrong here - I truly have no investment in Lukas's talent or otherwise, I'm just defending his and every other rocker's right to get out there on stage and do what they want without being ripped to shreds by a bunch of sour critics who have as DN suggests PRE DETERMINED that they will NOT enjoy, respect or give a fair hearing to who is out on stage.
And something else too - SO WHAT if they don't like what they hear. Doesn't mean TPC or anyone else should get bothered. I wanted to know how Dave deals with it because it pisses me off and I'm just v happy to hear he at least has it in perspective.
Have a nice weekend.

I was wondering if it bothers you that PRS as well as Marshall still advertise you as "the guy from jane's addiction".
I could imagine you would like to be considered as the guy from TPC.
would be good promotion for the band as well

Posted by: Jane at February 11, 2007 01:55 PM
I agree with vixen. Hey, I'm as old school as they come. Lukas has talent coming out of every pore. He's also a very talented lyricsist(did I spell that right?) Magni? comonnnn kids he's got a voice beyond belief. We pay for ENTERTAINMENT!
and we got it, woo hoo. Just because these guys got sort of fast-tracked to the front doesn't mean they don't have talent. One hell of alot of talented people die without ever "making it" just because they never got a break. We all know that. How many bands have broke out and made it big off of the OZZFEST tour? at least a dozen or so? SOOOOO.... is SOD or Linkin Park, Tool, Limp Bizkit, Pantera, Lamb of God, I could go on and on, all no talent acts? I saw every one of them on Ozzy's second stage years ago. They got heard first there and made people look and listen. You have to be seen and get an audience to "make it". Some people never get that. Can't wait to see what comes out of "rockstar" next year if they do it. You can't close your mind to new things or you might miss something great!

I have that TPC song in my head again...
I was working out at my school's overcrowded gym today. I was walking really fast and trying to avoid running into someone. I ran into SOMETHING instead. It was an elliptical machine. Ouch. There's a dent the size of a baseball bat on my left thigh.
Is it ever possible to get used to pain?
Are there some people out there who like pain or live for it...besides Sting, the King of Pain... who is on the Grammy Awards today with the Police reunion
"Somehow this bruise will be the last..."
Posted by: Francesca at February 11, 2007 03:47 PM
Right on Vixen. I tuned in to the RSSN show because I've loved the music that came from the boys in the chairs for most of my life. I kept coming back every week - to the point of being GEEKY about it - because of the talent on the stage. It's a tough thing to perform a song that people have loved for years and have those same people love it YOUR way. Shit - Dilana performed a song that I have NEVER liked and hit it so right on that I was standing up out of my seat by the time she was done. Anyone who tells me that none of those contestants has a place in the music biz, in my opinion, simply wasn't listening.

Somehow,Dave, I knew that you were still a
nighthawk. Maybe a touch of Anne Rice'"Louis"?
"Augustus"/Anthony Everitt.
Good read for a guy who's up all night.
How is your back?
And the critics..a twist on the old adage:
"those who can, do, and those who can't.."
well, they're consigned to write about it, by
their editors. I go to the symphony in the
winter. I've seen critics nap while sitting
in their seats, arriving late, leaving early.
Yeah, I understand the deadline thing.
But I am annoyed that a critic forgets that
art is created by a HUMAN, an individual with
a heart and soul. Art is what we feel, yes?
Who gets to say when an interpretation of a
song is "correct"--
a wee rant. sorry, dear heart. but..grrrr.
