Morning!

Happy Holidays guys! Here is an update regarding The Panic Channel on tour. In January, for the Supernova leg of our tour, Chris Chaney will not be joining us due to family obligations. Instead, Siggy Sjursen of Powerman 5000 will be joining us. He's a killer bass player and we are lucky he has come aboard for the tour.

Rocky: If you like Rocky movies, go see it. Sure you have to suspend reality, but it's a lot of fun. Almost feels like he never made 4 and 5. Remember that Eddie Murphy stand up bit he did about Rocky movies? "All right Rock-o!!!" Yeah. Todd and I left the theater screaming that... ALL day long!

Billy and I will be back in the studio on Saturday night for another installment of Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1FM from 6pm-8pm PST.

Here is the Camp Freddy Radio Podcast!

Merry Christmas, Dave. Thanks for all the great shows and music this year! Cool, on Rocky. I"ve wanted to see it ever since I heard about it coming out. :)

damn, that sucks to hear about chris. you should've given me a call. I'd have played bass for your tour, cheap! If Steve ever decides just to sing and not play guitar and you need rhythm guitar, shoot me a e-mail. I'll play whatever you tell me to!

Hi Dave, Thanks for the pointers to all the great music this year. Hope you do the same next year. I love your eclectic taste (it matches mine as well).

By the way, can you let Roxy Saint know that we tried to buy her album from her website, but couldn't find it from any of the links she provided on there. Maybe she could try getting it on to eMusic or something...

Really enjoyed their Iggy Pop covers and her videos are incredible. Wow, so creative.

Have a relaxing holiday Dave and everyone else.

Glad to hear also that Panic Channel is doing some small club dates. Any chance you'll have the time to do one in Toronto with Roxy Saint (hint, hint)?

I can't believe I'm getting in this early. Sorry to hear about Chaney. Love the CD and have turned many people on to it. I think "Teahouse of the Spirits" should be destined to be the themesong of a ghosthunting movie or TV show.

I'll check out the Rocky movie if you'll check out "We Are Marshall" that opens tonight. I attended and used to teach at Marshall University where the movie is set and filmed. It's based on a true story about how the town and university responded to the biggest disaster in NCAA history: the 1970 plane crash that killed the entire MU football team (except for three players who weren't on the plane), the whole coaching staff (except one assistant coach who wasn't on the plane), and many of the town's most prominent citizens.

Have a great holiday.

I have heard nothing but good things about Rocky Balboa. Hoping to catch it this weekend sometime. Merry Christmas to you & all on this site. Will Chaney be back for the Chicago show??? Hope so. Getting ready to set the final plans for that trip! Hope you get lots of goodies in your stocking and remember fishnets do not work so well in this instance. NIKI

well mr. navarro, after a year of "FAN"tasizing bout ya, and then thinking bout my life, i have decided life is wonderfuckinful. I quit a bad job to take an even worse job, to return to the original bad job, why? it all boils down to family/friends. You can put up with bullshit if you have support. I have felt lonely, sad, happy and cherished. Which I suppose is what everyone goes through.....I just wanted to ? "thank" you for the uh ..non support ...?(non support being the world of yours/ to the word of boring saskatchewan to mine) when i was lonely, cause I had the dream world of Rockstar supernova to get me throught the bad times, yes i know that sounds pathetic,(living the life thru a tv screen) but truly, it was what I at the time needed. With the holiday seasons rapidly approaching, i just wanted to convey how i felt about you and the way you have ..? behaved.... I know people dont say it enough, but dave if your reading this I appreciate the happiness you have brought me. I know i dont know you personally, but i'd like to say that how you have lived your life has made me...? proud?... IE: tabloids/ala britney spears, blah.....you have behaved with grace and diginity. This is no bullshit or sucking ass, and if in case you ever uh....feel...you know whatever...know that you have made at least one person...? happy....
I have no idea where this rambling is going, so i'll end with a wonderful season's greeetings...as i spent the THE most fun filled year filled with regrets and love. Isnt that what its all about?? much love....biffer

Posted by: LAwoman at December 22, 2006 07:21 PM

Hey everybody...

I was talking to my boss about having trouble finding Christmas gifts for people who don't really need anything. He told me about this nonprofit organization I had never heard of before - Heifer International. Basically they use donations to provide livestock & training to poverty stricken families. What's cool about the program is that it helps teach these families how to become self-reliant. they also have to agree to "pay it forward" by giving one of their animals' offspring to another family in need, (hmmm... Dave - unlike the blue crab industry, this organization promotes animal lovemaking!)

Since my Grandma doesn't want any more "stuff", for Christmas in her honor I bought a family a flock of chicks. Dave, I used your #1 blogger status to spread the word on this... from what I know of you - you won't mind! If anybody's interested, check it out: www.heifer.org

Happy Holidays & much love to you all

Let me interject a random thought: the world is going crazy, but it's not happening by itself. We're doing it to each other. Let's make a greater effort to be at peace with each other and to be more compassionate in our thoughts and deeds in the coming year. I'm out, y'all...see you next year!

Thanks to you and TPC for a fucking kickass year! Got to see TPC live, got to sing you a happy birthday and then some. First, and foremost, because of you, I found TPC and have met some killer people all over the world! You have no idea how cool that is to me.

I'm wishing you a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND ROCKIN' NEW YEAR!

Posted by: Jenn at December 22, 2006 10:17 PM

LOL @ EmpyreLounge. It would be funny if they just did away with bass altogether on the tour. Even gutted the bass drums from the drummer's kits.

Dave, I just saw you on FitTV or whatever it is called (DirecTV channel 368). My wife is addicted to that channel. Anyway it was some feature on Carmen but you were shown a lot in the piece. In one scene you were slurping down some delicious looking sashimi -- couldn't tell if it was toro or just regular old maguro.

Merry Christmas Dave and everyone! :-) I hope y'all are having a lovely holiday season. :-)

This is going to be the year of the "touring bassists," isn't it? Oh, well, hugs to Chris and 'welcome aboard' to Siggy. If "Juke Kartel" winds up replacing a bassist, they can start their own 'club' along with Johnny "Colt .45" ;-) (who seems like a cool and talented dude in his own right :-) ). Hope you have fun with Billy and CFR, tonight. :-) I'm having a good time here at the folks' place. But, please, for the love of all you hold sacred, don't send me out into the malls and crowds, again. *clings to blog and visualizes self in a 'happy place'* LOL Peace, love and best of the holidays to Dave and all the peeps. :-)

Hi Dave,
I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas.
And I wish that you, your family and friends enjoy a joyful and peaceful Christmas together.

You know, I really believe that there is
a true meaning of hope and peace at this time of year.

I usually dread December.
Reason being, although I've never suffered from drug or alchohol addiction, most of my immediate family does, and the thought of Christmas always just conjurs up a long string of memories of drunken ranges and stoned out stupidity that is so out of line with everything this season has to offer.

Still, every year at this time, a couple of days before Christmas, I always imagine that it will somehow be a peaceful Christmas.
Maybe this year it will be.

Hoping this year will be a peaceful Christmas for all !!

Dave, if you plan on doing a Sunday 10 on Christmas Eve, I'm wondering what song resonates with you at this time of year, and if you have a favorite movie at this time of year.

Personally, my favorite song is Let It Be, by the Beatles (the song is way before my time, but it's such an emotional and beutiful song on so many different levels and just always reminds me of Christmas). And my favorite movie to watch on Christmas Eve is The Red Violin. It reminds me of my acoustic guitar that I pawned at Christmas 5 years ago--I always wonder where it is now.

CandiTowers,
I hope this will be a more peaceful Christmas for you. Last Christmas I was still in shock over the loss of my son, this year it's all too real. I know it is difficult to deal with alcoholics and drug addicts, but I would choose all the heartache my son caused, due to his drug abuse, just to have him with me again. Sometimes we just have to love someone for who they are at that time, because it may be the last holiday we spend with them.

Peace and love to all my 6767 family!

I wanted to thank you Dave and the Panic Channel gang. Rough fucking holiday for me. A lot of tears and anger. Long story short...becuase you don't need to hear my sob story. I put my headphones on and started jamming out to your music while cleaning the kitchen. I started ctying and then "Why Cry" came on. Then I realized, what the fuck am I doing? So I started singing and dancing in the kitchen. Soon to realize my neighbors were watching me playing air guitar. Very funny moment for me. I know this sounds weird, but you and your music helped me out a great deal today and I want to thank you. Happy Holidays Dave.

RIP James "Godfather of Soul" Brown...

James Brown Was Always Imitated, but Never Surpassed
Monday, December 25, 2006
By Roger Friedman

The ironies are tremendous: As "Dreamgirls" opened across the country on Christmas Day, the news came that the legendary "Godfather of Soul" James Brown had died.

There are still questions about how and why Brown died, but the immediate parallel is interesting. Eddie Murphy plays James "Thunder" Early in "Dreamgirls," and no matter what anyone says, Murphy — at least for the first half of the movie — is playing a version of Brown.

Indeed, when Murphy's Early bursts out into a funky rap on a live TV show later in the film, it's Brown he's channeling. No way around it.

• 'Godfather of Soul' Singer James Brown Dead at 73

James Brown was imitated all through his career, but never surpassed. A song like Prince 's big hit "Kiss" is one of many derived from Brown's persona, talent and influence.

And while there will be plenty of stories in the next few days of Brown acting crazy on PCP and of time spent in jail and other salacious bits, it's important to remember his contributions to society and charity. In April 1968, he arrived in Boston for a live televised show just as news broke that Martin Luther King had been assassinated in Memphis. Brown calmed the near-riotous crowd and made sure the show went on without a hitch.

He wasn't called the "hardest working man in show business" for nothing — even thought he gave himself that nickname. I've seen him perform several times in the last few years, and he never gave less than expected at any show. He still wore his cape, did splits the best he could, yelped through his songs and spun around like a top. Not bad for a man in his late 60s and early 70s.

A couple of years ago, Mr. Brown — as he insisted on being called by everyone around him — was honored with a store window at Barneys on Madison Ave. His huge distinctive head filled the whole area, and his mouth moved to one of his songs. Later I interviewed him and Mr. Brown told me that Aretha Franklin had wanted to marry him, but he said no.

Who knows if it was true? In his mind, it was, and that's all that mattered. You had to take some of the things Mr. Brown said with a tablespoon of salt.

Mr. Brown had his share of hits, songs that everyone knows and dances too like "I Feel Good," "Sex Machine" (with the famous line "shake your moneymaker"), "It's a Man's World" (even Cher covered that one) and "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag."

He launched a lot of other careers, too, like Bobby Byrd ("I Got Soul"), Fred Wesley and the JBs and Maceo Parker. They came and went, but no matter what happened, everyone knew they were part of James Brown's orbit. They couldn't escape it. He was even memorialized by the Tom Tom Club in their early funk hit "Genius of Love."

Now James Brown joins a disarming list of R&B greats who passed away in the last year like Lou Rawls, Wilson Pickett, Ruth Brown, Billy Preston, Ahmet Ertegun and Arif Mardin. Not too long before them, Eugene Record also passed.

The list of R&B originals who remain is shrinking quickly. No one can or will replace them, that much is clear already. Plenty of people will try to imitate or steal from them, but it won't work. They are the originals. Music, and our culture, will be so much less without them.

And what a tribute to all of them, and to James Brown and The Supremes' late star Florence Ballard , that audiences are lining up today to see "Dreamgirls." It's the closest we've ever gotten on the big screen to even an approximate depiction of the tough lives and sacrifices these great performers made while others lived off their successes.

I just had to comment again. Another Xmas day is done and over with and I managed to stay clean and sober once again. That's the best gift I could ever get. (Even after 9 years, I still struggle horribly around the holidays.) I just had to tell someone that.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Congratulations Nicole on staying sober. Where as I, myself do not have an addiction, I have been directly involved with someone who suffers and just hasn't yet found anything worth staying sober for (namely, himself) or just any desire to BE sober. I can imagine the struggle and I applaud your for your strength. It is something to truly be proud of.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

First just wanted to say, congratulations Nicole on making it through another Christmas clean and sober. Glad you are proud and wanted to tell someone about it.

NOW ONTO MY MESSAGE TO YOU , DAVE:
Isn't it time for you to call your loaner home?

The guys are about to start on the tour and it is about time for Lukas to get his life back and get out from under the nasty vibs of that on loan sex toy.

If you are single now and if she is such a cutie and a hot hook-up, maybe you would like to get back with her?

Her ubiquitous presence in Lukas' life and on Lukas' related sites on the net, seems to be alienating a lot of his fans.

Coming out of lurkdom to say I have to say I agree with the above. Take her back Dave! The fan boards have been on fire since all this has happened. Fans have defected, squee is lost, perhaps forever.

The main complaint seems to be the lack of restraint she shows in trying to share or usurp his spotlight and posting all over his fan message boards highlighting her own affiliation with him.

It's become a train wreck.

Congrats to you Nicole... :) I know it's on a much smaller level, but I quit smoking cigs 2 1/2 weeks ago and it was a BITCH not smoking over the holidays...especially being around other smokers. I LOOOOVE smoking...I'm still in the angry stage thinking "why does everyone else just smoke...if they do it, why can't I?!?!" I know...makes no sense, Im not quite logical yet! hahaha...anyways...congrats on your accomplishment...I know it's hard.

Love, Amber:)

Enough with the intrigue, who is the loaner?

Posted by: Curious at December 26, 2006 12:48 PM

Curiosity killed the cat.....it's kendra jade, ex-pornstar and narcissist extraordinaire.

And a good friend of the owner of this blog. So if you feel like talking shit, talk shit elsewhere. Like on one of your gossip fan boards.

Someone elses personal life is NOYB. Just like Dave's personal life is nobody's business.

Better yet, *what* is a loaner? Who's loaning what to whom?

Posted by: enlighten-me-please at December 26, 2006 01:26 PM

A loaner? Like for sex? Eww. That's all types of wrong. As well as not very healthy. Wrap your weiners boys!

Camp Freddy Christmas Video - Spiderman.

Thanks for making my question Top 10 last week about Spiderman.

Updated information - My friend's stepson called her over Christmas and it was indeed him, Christoper, in that video!

Small World!

Thanks again!

"Someone elses personal life is NOYB."

Then tell his "personal life" to stop publishing itself on the internet.

Posted by: hazyredmoon at December 26, 2006 01:47 PM

Someone's "personal life" should remain personal and not be posting & posted all over the frickin internet pissing-off the fans of the only one of the disturbing duo who should be in the spotlight.
