Here is the Camp Freddy Radio Podcast!
1. I'm curious. What drives your desire to engage in such an open discourse with the masses?
Multidimensional answer: 1. Simply put and foremost, it's a lot of fun. 2. The music fans are the ones responsible for any level of success I have achieved in my life, so I like to get to know the people who are touched by what we do. 3. In this day and age, I'd rather the information that gets out there about me or the bands come directly from us. 4. It's the best way to let people know what is going on because if we left it up to the corporate world, nobody would ever have any information.
2. In the Camp Freddy Merry Christmas video, what shoes are you wearing when they do that zoom in on your bitchin' kicks?
Oh yes! Those are my Gucci sneakers.
3. I have been reading your book "Don't try This at Home" Were you at all nervous having it published or nervous you may loose fans because it shines a different light onto you?
Honestly, I felt that the message was the most important thing, so after a lot of careful editing and clearing with people mentioned in the book, we went ahead.
4. Will your new Digital company incorporate all art forms or strictly music?
We will be focussing on Internet TV, radio, music, art (visual and performance) and personalities. We also intend on creating a platform for new talent to showcase.
5. You seem pretty comfortable in all the arenas in which you have to show up (red carpet, hosting parties, being on TV & on stage, etc.) -- Are there ever times when you feel nervous or "stage fright" or out of place/uncomfortable?
No, not so much anymore. Discomfort is more of a mood that strikes regardless of the surroundings or circumstances. It's part of the human condition and rears it's head whenever it wants. When it does strike, you just have to walk through it because it goes away in the end and it would suck to allow something in your head destroy what could be a really great and real experience.
6. Did you end up going to the Playboy mansion even with the rain? How was it?
We had a good time. The whole outside was tented and heated so the rain was a non-issue.
7. Have you experienced any resistance or resentful reactions from people in the business (say radio, TV, record labels, print, etc.) who may not necessarily like that you are making such an effort to 'Take it back'?
Quite the opposite, actually. Most of the people I work with in the entertainment business know exactly what I am talking about and have been very supportive.
8. In DTTAH you said that in a room full of people you would pick the sickest most codependent woman there. Bad boy and codependent woman. Do you believe there is a chemistry that draws the two together, even without any spoken communication?
When I said that I was deep in the thralls of drug addiction. Now that I am five years away from that behavior, I only fantasize about sick and codependent women. (j/k)
9. Would you ever go skydiving?
I have been skydiving once... Once.
10. Any idea who the Spiderman is in the video?
None whatsoever. Hollywood Blvd. is full of people dressed up as characters from different films. They hang in front of the Chinese Theater selling pictures of themselves with tourists.

is there any famous recovering person who you look to as a mentor? if so who and why? also now that Courtney is recovering do you ever give her any advice on staying clean?

Is Phil H. still your guitar tech? The last couple times I saw CF, he wasn't there. He was always pretty cool about hooking me up with a set list. If you see him, tell he has fans, too.

Since you'll be touring soon, what are you looking forward to the most? Is there anything in particular that you absolutely love about touring?
Can't wait to see you next month!

Hi Dave - I posted this the other night, but in case you missed it, do you still have your photo booth? My good friend is turning 40 and wanted one for her b-day party. She's willing to drive it up from LA to SF, where we live. If you still have it, would you be willing to part with it? And does it still work?

I noticed Steve Isaacs sent out a "solo acoustic performance" MySpace bulletin... Are you going to see him???

Dave,
Why on earth is there no Rockstar Supernova single on the radio? I'm in Boston, and with 3 major "rock" stations in the area, no one is playing or promoting anything! I called to request it and just about got laughed off the air.

Q: What is your favorite artistic medium, beside music, more along the lines of fine art?
Posted by: Jmitchkc at December 17, 2006 06:37 PM
Dave, what was your main inspiration in songwriting when you first played with jane's? You said before when you were in the chili peppers that it was different from jane's because you jammed and came up with ideas like that, instead of comming up with ideas on your own and showing the rest of the band later. So did you get inspiration from playing along with records, or from playing by yourself, or trying to copy other guitarists, or whatever else? And when Jane's was first starting were you all trying to come up with a certain sound or did it just come naturally from the four of you guys playing together? Thanks.

Do you ever sit down and listen to the albums you have recorded and listen to them the same way any other listener would? Can you sit back and enjoy it as a piece of music? Or when you hear them does it take you back to the process of recording them or get you thinking about bits you would have changed if you had the chance?

Have you ever thought of doing Alice Cooper's "Christmas Pudding"? My wife and I went last night. It was totally awesome, and for a good cause. The music started at 7:30pm and didn't stop until 1:20am. Steven Stills and Don Felder debuted their new band. They started with "Hotel California", and then things just kept getting better. A couple of unkown bands and artists, Les Stroud, F5 Ace Young, CTA, Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades, the Peacemakers, Al Dimeola, the guys from Tesla and for the first time in 30yrs Alice with the remaining members of his orignal band.
This is the 6th year for "The Christmas Pudding". Alice is trying to raise $5 million to build a youth center for the teens. The can go skate, play ball, climb on the climbing wall, learn an insturment or many other things. Construction starts this year on the campus of Grand Canyon University and is funded by Alice Cooper's "Solid Rock Foundation".
This was our first year, and we plan to make it every year from now on. Great music, great cause, and a free cup of pudding!

Wow, really great questions and answers this week.
For Sunday 10 - I read "Don't Try This At Home" not to long ago and couldn't help wondering: It was mentioned that while you were going through your addiction, you were very argumentative but less so after you started going through rehab; so would you still consider yourself argumentative? Because you seem like you're really good at arguing and debating when you get into it.
Thanks so much,
~Ali

Dave,
i really like your comment about 'discomfort'. i wish my therapist put it that way. honestly, if i didn't have discomfort, i wouldn't be such an avid 'Jane's Addiction' fan...so i thank my mental self because it needs good healing and good music!!
i have a question for you, mr. navarro.. i have always wondered about you when you started out with jane's addiction...what was it like being in 'the band' at such a young age?? were you ever really amazed with the whole situation!! Like "What the fuck is going on???"...
U're guitar playing blows my mind, mr. navarro...!!!

1.Have you read the Jane's Addiction biography, Whores? and 2. Do you think there is any chance that The Panic Channel would come to Australia?

That's fuckin A right you will! :D I can't wait till all this gets going. It's funny, when I first stumbled onto this sight a couple years ago, I thought just your blogging and the interaction you consistently maintain w/ your fans was so great and progressive. Ever since, you've been constantly raising the bar for yourself and it's so great to watch these various creative outlets of yours grow and evolve. Thanks for the constant entertainment, DN...

Dave what's your opinion on P2P file sharing?
It's great in that I've heard so much music I would have never heard but I know there are a heck of a lot of people that don't by cd's anymore because of it.
Who do you think has been the most on form guitarist of 2006?
Will The DN be coming to the UK anytime soon?

Hi,
Love the fact you keep the communication with us all going strong. AND REALLY looking forwards to the new project next year.
Question today - since being in Camp Freddy we have heard you (and Billy) say quite often one of the best advantages is you have been able to play with such a great range of musicians, folk that you truly admire. So, I was wondering WHO would YOU like to ask YOUR Sunday 10 to given the same amazing chance you give us week after week?
Thanks.
V.

Any idea who the Spiderman is in the video?
I forwarded the video to a friend of mine who's stepson is in LA and is playing (probably one of many) Spidermen, she had no idea if it was him or not. They haven't seen him in a few years and only talk with he calls as he doesn't have a phone.

I bought the new ROCKSTAR SUPERNOVA CD last night and had a partial listening and thought it was really good. Not hearing much promotion on this either in CT. They compliment PC's music and the tour will have a nice balance of sound. See you NEXT MONTH IN WORCESTER!!! YIPEEEE

Dave in DTTAH you said that in a room full of people you would pick the sickest most co-dependent woman there. Question:
Bad boy and co-dependent woman. Do you believe there is a chemistry that draws the two together, even without any verbal communication?

So I was listening to NPR last week and they did 5 minutes on a band called the "long players" essentially a camp freddy for the nashville set, these are well established session and touring musicians who play a classic rock album from beginning to end and then fill out the show with favorite covers, using different guest vocalists.
I think this is a cool trend that may have started with messer navarro & donnovan.elite musicians playing music that they like to play because they like playing it and letting people watch; screw the musical elitism, we like this song here is our take on it, enjoy. that attitude has got to be the best thing for live music ever.
has camp freddy ever thought of doing a classic album or are everyone's tastes too diverse ? Either way, thanks and have a happy holiday.

Hey Dave,
I just wanted you to know, I had a most irresistible urge to write you.
I have sonic landscapes on my mind because I want you to know how significant you have been in the lives of my boyfriend and me.
We went to see The Panic Channel perform at the 9:30 Club.
While we were standing outside, a little away from the crowd, waiting for the doors to open - we saw you all come outside.
We went inside as soon as we possibly could to be in the front on your side.
My boyfriend (who plays guitar) has made me appreciate what a true artist you are…
(we pretty much agreed with you on everyone on Rock Star, except maybe a few!).
That concert truly was a defining moment in our relationship.
After that wonderful event, I had to ask him to move out (at least for a while), because I knew we needed to grow as individuals before we could grow together as a couple.
We separated for about a week when we both realized that we deeply loved each other.
A month later we proposed - to each other - in a wonderfully romantic setting.
We are now planning for our wedding, June 16th in Las Vegas
(we’d love it if you could come…wink, wink).
June 16th is very significant for me – my birthday is June 1st and my bat mitzvah was June 16th, 1984 (Now you know my age – oy! – Gemini’s Rock!).
(BTW: My fiancé is seven years younger!).
Well, that’s all for now.
Say “hi” to Steve, Stephen and Chris for us.
Come back to DC y’all!!!!
Love, AK

Had to laugh - I tend to still go for the bad boy being sick and codependent like I am(but working hard at changing). I am almost 33 months clean and sober but still out to fix the world - one bad boy at a time. I have a hard time being attracted to the guy that has a full time job and well adjusted. Something is terribly wrong with this picture!! Any well adjusted guys want to try and fix me? lol
