Sunday 10

Tonight I will be appearing at Guitar Hero II Midnight Madness which is taking place at Best Buy in West Los Angeles, 11301 W Pico Blvd. (at Sawtelle Blvd.) Billy and I will be doing a live CFR broadcast from there to help promote the new game, Guitar Hero II. We will be there from 10:30PM-12:30AM PST.

1. Is the makeup a shield, an impenetrable layer protecting you from the world?

Well, make up is hardly an impenetrable layer... If anything, it brings about even more judgment and negative comments to have to deflect than anything else. I look at it as an amplification of a side of my personality, as well as a tipping of the hat to some of my favorite artists that came before me. Glamour and the street... Slutty, tragedy, entertainment... Plus, I just enjoy it. At the end of the day, some men might feel threatened and question my sexuality, but that's fine with me because while they are tripping, their girlfriends are saying, "I love your eye shadow!"

2. I remember you saying to Larissa on SRL that you weren't going to mention where you travel anymore, but is this (poker photo) your subconscious need to inform the Spread Mafia of your location?

Well, the chances of the Straight Flush Wheel are so slim, that it was worth breaking my vow of silence. Plus, I didn't post the photo until I was out of there anyway. I can always say where I was, just not where I am going.

3. How do you decide what questions to post on the '10'?

Really, anything that grabs me will get a response. I primarily go with questions that haven't already been covered in interviews or on a previous Sunday.

4. Can you please give us a play by play of your straight flush?

I was dealt an A, 2 of Clubs - The flop was 3, 5 of Clubs and a 4 of hearts. I had flopped the Straight Wheel. At that point, I went all in and a few players dropped out. Another player had A, 2 unsuited and called. We turned the cards over and we both had Wheels... It looked as though it was going to be a chop-chop situation but when the turn came, the 4 of clubs fell. It was all over!

5. How'd you get a picture of your hand? I'm assuming you were in Vegas and I know they don't allow cameras.

I just pulled out my phone and shot it. Pretty simple, really. Nobody said anything about it.

6. Would you ever date someone that wasn't "rich and famous" -- someone that is just an everyday normal person?

Of course I would. I'm obviously not looking for a girlfriend right now, but when it comes to matters of the heart, there are no guidelines or parameters.

7. What does it mean to you to have the gold star of blogging, any feeling about it?

Well, I know for a fact that there are many incredible bloggers here, so the fact that we won best blog, to me, is more a testament to all the support I have here than anything else. I really appreciate how so many of you went over and voted... For that I am both grateful and touched. I think the Gold Star should be for the Most Supportive Online Family than Best Blog. Either way, that is how I look at it.

8. If your out and about does it piss you off to have fans coming over and squealing all over you and asking for pics and autographs?

Well, it doesn't happen that often, but I never get pissed. I appreciate support from the people who got me where I am today. The only thing that does piss me off is when they get nasty if I can't do a picture. I've said this before, but when I am in a huge public place, like an airport or a club or eating or whatever, I can't do pictures because I end up doing them all night. A flash is like a big signal that says... Picture time! (Especially now - EVERYBODY has a digital camera!) You wouldn't believe how aggressive and angry people get. "Can I have a picture?" "No, not right now, but nice to meet you. Have a great night." "Ewwww, you're a fuckin' asshole! Fuck you!" "...?..."

9. I wrote a response to an LA Times writer who thought it was goofy that you were doing this (Guitar Hero II PS Game appearance) tonight.

Thank you! Here is the funny thing... He doesn't realize that he has actually spent his time WRITING about something that someone else is doing. As an LA Times writer, shouldn't he write about something that is actually news? In any event, I appreciate your response to him. We are gonna have a blast tonight. If it's goofy to show up and hang out with the people who support me and Billy, then... You know what I say don't you? "That guy can EAT A DICK, SON!!!" Maybe he's just upset that there is no "Bullshit Story LA Times Writer II Game" that HE'S featured in! I think that having my music featured in a game is pretty awesome! This guy might be singing a different tune when they come out with a game where you can pretend to be a worthless hack among great writers that get the good stories.

10. Recently, you've been doing a lot of hosting parties and events. Do you enjoy doing these?

Lately I really have been enjoying all that stuff. Now that the record is out, the show is wrapped and we aren't on tour yet, it's kind of fun to just go and hang without having to promote anything. I'm sure I'll get sick of it sooner or later, as I usually do, but for now... It's on!!! Ya herd?

Any update(s) on the new TV show?

Posted by: Schwing at November 6, 2006 09:43 AM

Dave, someone mentioned that you hate poetry. Do you? Personally, I find it annoying. Just say what you mean and spare me the bullshit, you know?

Posted by: Dana at November 6, 2006 09:46 AM

Why the vow of silence re travel?
Is it simply to avoid unwanted attention - but don't the "paps" find you regardless.
Have a lovely Monday.

Posted by: vixen at November 6, 2006 09:46 AM

Now that's a vacation! Beautiful. And I do love your eyeshadow btw, it's who you are, and you are beautiful. And really Dave, we can all say where we've been but do any of us really know for sure where we're going? It never really goes the way we plan anyway. That's what makes life an adventure, que no?

Posted by: Miss. S at November 6, 2006 09:49 AM

Anything you can tell us about the upcoming reality show you are working on about a rock band?

Posted by: Dawna at November 6, 2006 09:49 AM

And something else too.
Do you see yourself as a tragic hero in any way? Have you ever done?
Not from Don't Try This At Home - but more from an image you present in a way. The whole rock scene produces such casualties - passion and pain and either causes artists to be fragile creatures or exposes their vulnerabilities. Which is it? The survivors seem a complicated mix.

Posted by: vixen at November 6, 2006 09:52 AM

You have a really good radio voice. I was wondering if you considered any voice over work. I think you would be excellent as a cartoon character...what a hoot.

Posted by: Dawna at November 6, 2006 09:53 AM

You seem to be a very generous, sensitive and open person. Even when being this way exposes you to public scrutiny. Have you always been this way (ie., were you a sensitive, loving child)...or have you decided this is the only way to be as a result of your life experience. Or, is your primary objective publicity...or...

Love ya

Posted by: Dawna at November 6, 2006 10:03 AM

Speaking of eye shadow and make up this brings up the question of skin care. A friend pointed out how great your complexion looks in close up photos. What do you use?

Posted by: Laura at November 6, 2006 10:05 AM

Oh yeah...I forgot to ask you something (need some more coffee this morning). Have you ever checked out Dia de los Muertos? We observed this here in New Mexico just recently. That would be a cool vacation - -you could paint your face & dress up like a calavera, dance around, and no one would know who are - - anyway, my vacation suggestion for next year, for what's it's worth, ha ha.

Posted by: Miss S at November 6, 2006 10:09 AM

You have said in a previous Sunday 10 that you don't get the crush of media on you like the "a-list" people. Would you ever want that amount of fame? Do you think that amount of fame is worth the apparent loss of freedom?

Posted by: isis at November 6, 2006 10:13 AM

Hey Dave! I was wondering how old were you when you got your first tattoo? And did you ever get the same tattoo with someone to remember a special event or something...if so what was it and who was it with and why? I hope your having a great day! :)

1. I couldn't help but notice that you were in Vegas at the same time as your friend, Shanna. Were you able to check out her divorce party?

2. A couple years ago, your brothers came with you to the CFR studio, whatever happened with that reality episode? I thought you were being filmed for a future show?

3. Awesome news about you and Billy doing a CFR tonight from Best Buy..have you both had a chance to preview Guitar Hero II?

4. Speaking of video games, have you checked out the new Play Station 3?

5. Any new music artists that have grabbed your attention lately? I notice you have your favorites on SRL, what do you think of your contemporaries out there...OK Go, She Wants Revenge?

jezzi(welcome home)

Strawberry, Peach or Mango? And Why. :)
Also, what do you think of the new Battlestar Galactica series?

Dave, I'm seeing NIN in March. Sooooo excited!

Wanna come?

Posted by: Sophie at November 6, 2006 10:51 AM

Dave, have you ever thought about taking up martial arts? maybe you could become a guitarial artist? haha, then you could really save the blue crabs!

Posted by: Mark at November 6, 2006 11:14 AM

Hi Dave,
I have a question for you. I would like to know why you drive a Hummer. You seem (and I'm sure you are) very intelligent, articulate, connected and involved. With all that we are hearing about global warming and the simple things that we as individuals can do to help in our little ways, seems trivial and egocentric to choose to drive such a vehicle. I am by no means some hippie chick that is zealously obsessed with the environment or anything. I am simply a concerned citizen of the planet that is taking the warning seriously and wondering why people aren't reacting more quickly.
I still love you...and your eye makeup is FABULOUS !

Posted by: six at November 6, 2006 11:16 AM

Nice 4!!! Have funat best buy!!!

Posted by: chrissy at November 6, 2006 11:18 AM

Dave, cant wait to listen to you and billy tonight. How many Diet Cokes do you consume in a day/week? Just suprised you drink pop being as health concious as you are. Have fun tonight. NIKI

Posted by: merc957 at November 6, 2006 11:30 AM

Morning Dave. :-) Way to rock the card table, amigo. Glad you got the chance to get some hands in. I haven't gotten into playing poker, yet, but I do love watching the game for the strategy and psychology of it... seeing 'calm, cool, collected' players just completely lose it or have their nerve break going up against a wily opponent. Even the best players can do the most boneheaded things if they get psyched out and that's just fun to observe. LOL Plus, cards are really strange. A person never knows what they're going to do. My family's card game of choice is cribbage and some nights it has taken us half an hour just to see who deals because we'll keep cutting 2 black eights, 2 red aces, etc. LOL Hope you have a great time with the CFR tonight at your event. I must admit I am a total convert to the concept of 'guyliner' after seeing folks like Lukas Rossi, Toby Rand... and at the recent Gemini Awards even Gilby Clarke... rock the stuff. It really makes guys' eyes stand out and it is beautiful. Likewise, what a cool age to be living in where men can be confident, sexy, stylish, care about their threads and personal appearance and express themselves both artistically and emotionally. Yet, still be completely masculine and empowered in their raw physicality and smmoookkkin' sensuality. Hey, 'thumbs up' from this chick and I may have to start asking the guys for makeup tips because you lads are looking fabulous. LOL Hope you have a great day, bro, and peace to all the peeps.

Posted by: Sanlin at November 6, 2006 11:30 AM

Ohh Ohh! I have a question!

Spread and Rhimorse albums...I'm Dying here! LoL
Will they ever be in Shop 13? :)

Posted by: Shannon at November 6, 2006 11:35 AM

How do you get your eyeliner to stay on so long? I always end up rubbing mine off.

Wish I could see you and your makeup tonight but have to be at work early in the am. It's too bad because LA is only a couple of hours away. Maybe next time....

Posted by: Cagirlygirl760 at November 6, 2006 12:16 PM

How'd you get a picture of your hand? I'm assuming you were in Vegas and I know they don't allow cameras... in any casino for that matter. Or was the Celeb. Poker?

Posted by: Jenn at November 6, 2006 12:17 PM

On SRL you have talked about Layne Staley and that you were good friends. You and Layne are 2 of my favorite musical artists and you both had problems with drugs but you both went 2 separate directions (life and death). I had read an article after Layne had passed that Al from Ministry met him (if I remember correctly) and said how interested Layne was in H because he felt it helped his abilities as an artist and his ability to perform. Is there anything that you feel could have helped Layne or are there some people who either don't want help or no matter what, they just aren't strong enough to get out of the pull of the drugs or just feel they need it in their life for what they think they can accomplish while on it?

Posted by: Mitchel at November 6, 2006 12:18 PM

Is there something different with gambling/poker that prevents it from becoming an addiction for you?

Posted by: Elise at November 6, 2006 12:36 PM

Sunday 10?

Where is one place in the world that you haven't been that you would want to vacation at just to chill out and enjoy?

Posted by: Savvy1007 at November 6, 2006 12:39 PM

What percentage of songs would you say were put together when you were completely strung-out on drugs? And how would you compare these pieces to any that were put together while more lucid. And, how is the back?

Posted by: C&h at November 6, 2006 12:49 PM

I have been through a move and a breakup in the same week! How do you cope now that your drug free with all the sh!t that has happened to you recently? Yoga, Zen, meditation, or just SRL, Camp Freddy, and TPC?

Posted by: Michele at November 6, 2006 01:57 PM

hi dave! i have a question for ya...do you have any non-celebrity, regular-joe kind of friends? someone who makes 60 grand a year, maxed out credit cards and will take 25 years to pay off his $200,000 house? just wondering if it would get kinda weird..."ya, you take your volvo and i'll meet you there in my private jet" kind of thing!! love ya!!

Posted by: #1 dave fan at November 6, 2006 02:11 PM

Dude, last time I even looked at my cell they rushed my ass and were like "NO CAMERAS! And you can't talk on your phone while you're at the table either!" I was like, "I'm just checking the time."

I bet it's because you have nicer boobies than me.

Posted by: Jenn at November 6, 2006 02:17 PM

Dave, thank you so much for answering my question. Honestly, I didn't think you would. You're full of surprises, thanks for being so candid. The reason I asked that question was due to some revelations you made in DTTAH. You mentioned the fact that people used to comment on your outrageous costumes, but never questioned why you wore them. I don't have the book here to verify exactly what you said, but something along those lines.

Have fun at Best Buy, wish it was the one right around the corner from me! Luv ya

Posted by: Carly at November 6, 2006 04:57 PM

You mentioned in a previous Sunday 10 that you purge your personal stuff on a pretty regular basis. What is the 1 thing you prize the most and wouldn't get rid of?

The whole celebrity recognition thing interests me. How often are you recognized when you are doing "regular people" kinds of stuff?

Posted by: robin at November 6, 2006 06:10 PM

Hi family.

Dave, how did you become so cute? I have kind of a personal question. Who do you think you look like more, your mom or your dad?

As for me...I look like my aunt on my dad's side. (Like you care.)J/k

Posted by: Crecencia at November 6, 2006 06:35 PM

Hi Dave,
right on, right on! you're confident and comfortable as a man, that's one reason women are attracted to you and men feel threatened.

when talking about a wall painting in your former home you said: maybe its over the top but then i'm an over the top kind of guy. and when you leave the house, you feel gratitude for all you have.

You've lived so much life so far Dave, that's where all your insightfullness and wisdom comes from I think.

looking forward to listening to the show tonight. i wrote a response to an LA Times writer who thought it was goofy that you were doing this tonight. I hope he contacts you regarding all the influential things you do for new, undiscovered artists, recoving addicts and all the other people who see you as a source of strenth, which I pointed out to him.
love you.

Do you mind if people send you articles on alternative treatments for autism? If not I have a paper you might be interested on from a person that studied TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in China and Korea on treating autism.

Posted by: Ron in Phoenix at November 6, 2006 07:23 PM

Hi Dave!
A while ago, you mentioned on here that you didn't enjoy doing things like presenting award shows. Recently, you've been doing a lot of hosting parties and events. Do you enjoy doing these? If so, why do you enjoy the hosting and not presenting? Or do you feel differently now?

Posted by: ylais at November 6, 2006 07:42 PM

ok so i went to see the chili peppers show in grand rapids on thursday night and although it was mostly a religious experience to see flea at work, it would have been much better had you joined them on that stage. just thought i'd let you know that you are definitely missed. just wasn't the same.

also. i found an intruiging video of you on youtube, talking about the soft-shelled crabs and it was probably the funniest thing i've ever heard. how in the hell did you even get started talking about the devastation of crabs being ripped apart during love making?

<3 yyoouuu

Posted by: katie at November 6, 2006 07:58 PM

people like you because they admire you for being genuine and talented, not because the make up or your appearances. you look great and i think its refreshing when someone is comfortable in their own skin. i think that guy was tripping because some people do things they're not actually comfortable with because they feel as though they have to live up to something, but its great when peopel do things that make them who they are no matter what other people think.

but very few can pull it off...

Posted by: callieJ at November 6, 2006 07:59 PM

Dave, so you've talked alot about how it is to not drink/drug while hangin with folks that do...so what about gettin' busy? Having read your book and amazed at your former lifestyle, what are your thoughts now on throwin' down stone cold sober stylie?

Posted by: duchess at November 6, 2006 08:46 PM

Hey, I am just now getting to read your entire post today Dave and we all thank you for such kind and cool words about us. We do love to read you~ peace.
