Camp Freddy on iTunes - Dec. 12
Camp Freddy will release its Christmas single, a cover of Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" exclusively via iTunes on December 12. A video for the track will also be released the same day. We are also playing a special charity show at The Avalon in Los Angeles on December 7. The show will be an Indie 103.1 FM event, and all proceeds will be donated to the Musicians Assistance Program/MusiCares. The show will be open to the public, and tickets will be on sale from the usual outlets.
Also, in celebration on the Holiday Spirit and our upcoming tour with Supernova, The Panic Channel will be featuring a free download of the song, Loophole, on our site this weekend and all next week.
1. I was doing some holiday shopping. Hey, they make great stocking stuffers.
2. I just buy these for the great and informative articles.
3. This is the box I "leave out" on the coffee table. I have the regular ones under the bed.
4. I suppose a picture of me buying these is more responsible than a picture of me not buying these.

Sunday 10
Here is the Camp Freddy Radio Podcast!
1. I've heard and seen ads that announce the band as 'Dave Navarro and The Panic Channel,' or something to that effect. Does that ever bother you?
The only time I have seen that was for the XFANS show and that was a situation where they asked me to be involved and I invited the band to do it with me. Of course I would rather it just be The Panic Channel but then again, we are always grateful to get the opportunity to play no matter how it comes about.
2. When Jane's recorded "Don't Call Me Nigger", how'd you pull it off without Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson getting all up in your hizzy?
Well, that was a Sly & the Family Stone cover song and our version featured Ice-T singing the words, "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey!" It was a statement about racism and was intended to make people think. A commentary on racism, which in itself is not racist.
3. Are you ever concerned that you may be receiving too much notoriety for your connection to the porn industry?
Lemme see... Awww hell no! I have a lot of good friends who are amazing people that work in the adult industry, but I wouldn't consider myself "connected" to it. (Not unless you count that one film I did in the 80's, but that was an independent limited release.) I'm more concerned about being connected to people in the recording industry. Now THAT'S scandalous!
4. Would you ever consider taking SRL one step further and create your own label? If you weren't with Capitol would you put yourself on it?
Yes and yes. In January we start the Digital Factory project. I'm just waiting for the new space to become available.
5. Dave, what is going on with the Asylum? Do you know?
I have no idea I just woke up. Let me look into it.
6. Do you know what's going on with the contest from thepanicchannel.tv? Is Capitol going to screw us again?
When I asked this question to my Magic 8-Ball it said, "Concentrate and ask again." So, I regrouped my thoughts and asked again. This time it came up with, "Ask again later." I waited a little while, gave it a good re-shaking and asked, "Is Capitol going to screw us again?" The 8-Ball was a little more specific this time when it said, "Signs point to yes." Of course I wasn't satisfied so I asked again one last time... Very slowly and very clearly. Imagine my surprise when this time, the little icosahedron inside the 8-Ball actually came up with, "Of course Capitol are gonna screw you, Jackass! You guys don't even exist over there!" I was amazed that the Magic 8-Ball even had that answer as an option! Who knew?
Audio Answer: Click Here
7. We've all heard your various rants about Starbucks or Coffee Bean on CFR...I wanna know what you drink from there...just plain old brewed coffee or do you get creative?
That's kind of the funny thing I guess. I just order a large black coffee, nothing creative. One would think that if my order is so simple there would be nothing to rant about. After years of placing this order for black coffee, I have finally learned that I have to say, "No room for cream" in order to prevent them from asking me if I want room for cream in my "black" coffee. I won't even get into the little sippy hole "spill proof" lids that pretty much ALWAYS spill out into the car's cup holder or onto my skin as I walk out.
8. Dave, in your book you labeled one of the major reasons for not killing yourself was being creative. (Reference to a film I made back then.) What would you recommend to us who aren't financially successful in our creative endeavors? What's the point of creating if no one cares? What's the reason for self expression if there's no one to express it too?
The point is to create. The point is to express yourself, even if it's only to yourself, and learn from it and explore those inner places and parts that are uncharted emotional territories... To have the courage to look inward and see what's below the surface, to the heart of who we really are. Nobody ever saw the film I was working on that made me want to keep going, but the fact that I was in the process of self-discovery was enough for me. Creativity can help us make peace with ourselves as well as fuel our demons, which I suppose is one of the many things that makes the process so exciting and important.
9. It seems like all the Celebes have this tight knit group, but is it real? Do you have a lot of friends that are just normal people too?
Of course I do. I suppose that it just seems like public people only hang with each other because a headline like, "Paris Hangs Out With Some Chick" wouldn't really sell magazines.
10. You take cold calls on the radio, respond to instant messages on SRL, and answer hundreds of questions on this website -- and yet you receive complaints about harsh tone or sarcasm when dealing with someone who isn't listening. Does it ever seem that it is never enough for some people and they just keep demanding and never expect any consequences?
Sure it does, but the reality is that is just life. In any group of people there are bound to be some that are less accepting of things. We keep moving for the ones who do appreciate our efforts.

Yeah, bitches... Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! Today I have literally received about 30 mass texts from people who must have my number programmed in their phones. I was going to send one myself to everyone in my phone, but it occurred to me that I probably shouldn't remind certain people that I exist. You know, I send the "Happy Thanksgiving" blast and then hear back from people I haven't spoken to in years. "Hey man! What's up? How you been?" It could turn into an all day event. I could do the "Do not reply... This is just another mass text that went out to everybody in my phone." It would be a lot more honest than the ones I usually send: "Hey baby... Just thinking about you... Miss you!" The winning mass text of the day goes to Tommy who writes, "If the Indians would have killed a cat instead of a turkey, we'd all be eating pussy for dinner." I know this could fall into the category of mass texts, but here it goes anyway... HAPPY THANKSGIVING FAMILY!!!! I hope you all have a beautiful day!

Supernova
The Supernova record is out today. Does ANYONE know about that? I just went to iTunes and noticed that there isn't even one comment up. Now, I have been complaining about the state of the music industry for a long time... About how major record labels don't stand behind their bands anymore but this is ridiculous. This is a new band that is full of platinum selling artists and the final winning singer from a high rated, network talent search summer series that cost millions to produce. CBS and MBP basically put together one of the most expensive ramp ups in album release history and so far, I haven't seen a single add or alert about this album. Now, the band will be fine. They are going out on a huge tour and will gain plenty of momentum I am sure. My point is, if this is the way Epic is going to treat these guys, how do we expect any major to really get behind a band that is new, fresh and totally unknown?
It is up to us to support the Indie music scene! Click on over to Spread Radio Live to check out five new Indie bands and vote for your favorite to be featured on SRL.

Sunday 10
(Photo: Bree Warner) 1. I just paid $50.00 to put an ad in my school's yearbook to advertise Spread Radio Live. Is this OK with you? Is there any copyright issues I should know about?
My lawyers have instructed me to not discuss this matter with you directly. Not only will you receive a subpoena come Monday morning, but your place of education will as well. J/K! Of course it's OK and we appreciate it immensely! You think that when it's done you can scan it and send us a photo? I'd love to put it up on the site!
2. This may sound strange, but how do you keep your ego in control and keep yourself so humble?
That's a very nice question. There are some that would argue that my ego is WAY out of control and there are some who do not. I think that ultimately I just look at us all as members of Planet Earth and I am aware of the fact that we are all going to end up in the same place at the end of the day. Try to stand on the edge of another galaxy and you'll see what I mean. All that really matters is that we are happy while we are here and that we do our best not to wrong others. Of course, we make mistakes as humans and are apt to inadvertently cause pain to the people in our lives as well as ourselves, but all we need to do is learn from those moments. Sometimes, we need to learn over and over. I don't know if that answers your question, but my point is that I just try to remain aware of the ultimate insignificance of the day to day things that many of us place so much importance on.
3. What advice would you give a fan who is an addict having a hard time staying clean or sober?
Very simple: Get help! Do not try to do it alone. There are tons of self help groups out there. Communicate with people who understand your feelings. There are pretty much a couple of options and you tell me which sounds better. 1. Feel uncomfortable, let it pass and get through it. 2. Feel uncomfortable, get loaded and then find yourself both uncomfortable and having to get clean again. 3. Jails, institutions or death. (I am speaking to the addicts, not the occasional social drinker. Some people can control their using. The options I have laid out are intended for the ones, like me, who cannot.)
4. I agree with your position about "taking it back" and really admire what your accomplishing with SRL because of "crap" forced to be played by the media, however you seem to back and even enjoy many of the artists that are heard on the radio. Is your beef less to do with the music that is played and more about the controls they use to decide what is played and lack of variety?
Good question. I honestly just enjoy anything I think is good whether it's popular or underground. I am not one of those Indie Vinyl Nazi's! I don't avoid everything popular just because it's popular. I don't give a fuck! You are right that my problem has to do more with the industry's position of only supporting what they think will generate a financial return immediately. We no longer have what used to be called, Artist Development. My advice to upcoming rock bands is to avoid the major label world like the fucking plague. It is really falling apart. Let them have the Hip Hop and the Pop acts. They seem to do well and hell, I like some of them, However, if your intention is to do something different, left of center and new, do it yourself. Technology is now at a place where we can do that.
5. So you seemed like you were mean to a few callers last night on CFR.
Well, we never intend to be mean I can assure you, but sometimes people call in with stuff that only Billy and I will get because we have such a tight community here on the Net. The truth is, that sometimes we have to keep calls like that moving because 99% of the listeners are outside of our little world here and we need to keep the show "broad" enough for everyone. If anyone ever feels "pushed" please do not take it personally, we just have to keep a flow going and we don't prescreen our calls. We do love to hear from our listeners on the Net and it does always warm our hearts. I'd suggest that if you are a member of one of these sites and you call in, try to remember that there is a whole audience out there that may not know what you are talking about. If you are more general with your topic, we will be less inclined to move it along.

Dragonfly Tonight
Tonight, The Panic Channel will be doing a short five song acoustic set at LA's Dragonfly. It'll be more like The Relaxing Channel. We will be doing Outsider, Blue Briuises and Why Cry as well as a couple covers. The show benefits charity, with all door proceeds going to the ASACP (Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection) and FSC (Free Speech Coalition). For more info go to XFANZ. In addition to our short set and the worthy causes, it should just be a fun hang with lots of other acts including a burlesque show, comedians Skippy Green and Bert Kreisher and the musical stylings Kurt Lockwood & Porn City Punks. The cover is only $10.00 and VIP tables are also available. Make inquiries to Joetta Velasquez at joetta@xbiz.com or (323) 965-1944.
(Thanx to Wendybird for the images.) Last night's XFANZ party was a lot of fun. Chris was out on tour with Taylor Hawkins so it was just me, Perk & Isaacs. We did a couple cover songs at the end of the set: Pinball Wizard and Highway To Hell... Acoustic. A great time was had by all and it was killer to see our Asylum members hanging out with us right up front as always! Plus, we were able to do our thing for ASACP. Tonight I am joining Billy and the boys for a last minute Camp Freddy gig in Hollywood. Yeah, it's another private party, but we are doing a show in December that IS open to the public. I will be sure to post that information as soon as it's confirmed, but I think it's on December 7th in LA somewhere.

Sunday 10
1. Why is TPC not playing the Vegas shows with Supernova?
Because the NYE SN show isn't part of the tour, it's just a special warm up show for the band. The actual tour that we are on starts up roughly 2 weeks later.
2. Why is it that in all of your Halloween photos your not smiling? Are you not having fun?
Really, I don't have an answer for that... I had a blast!! I think that maybe it was one of those things where we got hammered for pictures so many times by different wire services, that it kind of took us out of the moment. Also, historically speaking, I have never really been a "posed" smiler in pictures. I am sure that random fly on the wall images would reveal a totally different story.
3. Would you share with us your favorite Thanksgiving memory?
There are many favorites that are heart warming and full of laughter and love, but the one that ALWAYS gets brought up at the table by my Dad every year, is the 7-UP story. He'll get this big smile on his face and say, "Hey Dave, don't worry... We have plenty of 7-UP!" He is referring to a Thanksgiving many years ago, when I made up an excuse that my girlfriend had a bad stomach and needed 7-UP. Johnny & I left to "get 7-UP" and instead, drove downtown to cop some heroin. We were gone for like an hour and when we got back, we didn't even have any 7-UP with us. It was more than obvious to the whole family where we had gone. So, I guess when they joke about it now, it's both funny and a way to give thanks and celebrate the fact that we are both so far away from that life. It's nice when you can look back on times and truly be grateful for where you have been and how far you have come.
4. How's the torn ligament doing? Feeling any better?
Much better thank you! The swelling has gone down quite a bit and it's looking like I won't have to have a surgery after all.
5. Would you be against someone, say me, getting a tat relatively like your 'trust no one'? I'd hate to get it done and have you be upset.
Never would I be upset. It's actually part of a quote by the Roman philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero. He said, "Trust no one unless you have eaten much salt with him." What was upsetting to me back then, was learning that the quote was also official The X-Files catch phrase! Whatever... At the time I had never seen The X-Files. Years later, when I found out it was a really cool show, I was relieved. The quote is also known as an old sailor's adage.
6. Also, what is your opinion on LOST being postponed until Feb?
You're kidding! Is that true? See? Based on how last season went, I am not surprised at all. As much as I enjoy the show, that is precisely why I chose to avoid it all together this season and just wait for the DVD of the whole thing. I had a feeling that they would put us through a bunch of waiting and reruns and recaps and bullshit. If it were at all possible, I would sue the network for the many hours of my life that have been "LOST". Thank God for season 7 of West Wing on DVD!
7. Do you go running to keep in shape or are there other reasons? A smoker who runs is kinda strange.
I run to keep in shape, to keep the blood moving, to burn calories and to clear the head. I guess it's better to smoke and run than to smoke and not run... As for it being strange? I've been called strange for a lot of reasons, but this is a first.
8. What did you think of all the fans going out and getting the TPC "sigil" tattooed? Commitment? Crazy? Or should be committed?
I think it's awesome. I look at it as support for the band, the players, who we are as individuals and mutual respect among the community members. It is also, quite simply, just a cool looking design that Steve created. I can tell you that Steve, many in our crew and I have the tattoo as well. When I see it, I get a family vibe, a cult vibe, and a positive community vibe. Tattoos mark a time in one's life. Personally, I don't get all hung up on the whys and forevers about the whole thing. At the end of the day, we are all gonna be dust anyway, so we might as well do the things we want to do while we are here, provided we don't hurt anyone in the process. Of course we are never going to be perfect and are likely to hurt others in our lives. We can at least learn from that behavior, take responsibility and try to not repeat that behavior again. Do I think it's crazy? No. Is life hard and full of tough choices? Yes. Tattoos rank pretty low on the scale of things that I think are crazy and worth committing people for. In fact, they almost don't even register, except in rare cases where phrases and art are meant to alienate racial or religious groups.
9. What caused the breakdown in relations between you and the band members that led to your departure?
Well, in short, I would say that overall musical differences was the main issue and when drug abuse came into the picture, it was obvious to everyone that it just wasn't going to work. Fortunately, breakdowns between me and the band members have been rectified long ago and we remain friends to this day. I am a huge fan of all the players and truly love the music that they continue to put out. If there is one band from my era that has stood the test of time and has successfully survived through many hardships as well as glories, it's the RHCP!
10. Hey Dave is your time in the Red Hot Chili Peppers represented accurately in Anthony Kiedis' autobiography?
HAHA! Well, I haven't read the whole book, but I did read an excerpt about a particular rehearsal that was completely accurate! (At least to my foggy recollection!) If you haven't read Anthony's book, pick it up. Just from the little I skimmed through, it looks like an awesome read!

What? Are Ya Kidding Me?
So... The back is totally better. Thank the Lord. However, now I have re-injured my left foot by twisting it and tearing a ligament. I mean, would you believe it? About a month ago I fucked it up coming down the stairs late at night like a blind jackass and then the other night, after it was starting to get better, I did the exact same thing again to the exact same foot! So yesterday, I went for the full run of doctor visits... X-Ray, MRI, the orthopedic specialist, general practitioner... The works! Why am I telling you all this? Well, it's a slow news day over here and frankly, I really have NOTHING to do but be on the computer and elevate it & ice it! They got me in a full on "boot" thing that I have to hobble around in and have also given me a cane. I'm thinking that I can call Lil John and get a hold of his cane guy. Maybe get it all upgraded into an actual accessory. Perhaps I should give Newsted a call and see if he wants to start a new band, as he is out of commission with a shoulder injury. Acoustic sets in hospital waiting rooms across the country? E.R. Tour 07? The pain I can deal with... Even the limited range of motion and inability to go places is bearable. The worst part? A couple of things:
1. Answering this question 500 times. "Oooh! Ouch! How'd you do that?"
2. Not being able to do the cardio.
3. This comment: "Boy, somebody's trying to tell you something!" NO, THEY ARE NOT!
4. EVERYONE is a doctor all of a sudden. "You know, you really should _______"
5. Trying to "finish" while only being able to curl the toes on one foot!
I have no idea of what exactly we are looking at here, but it is, evidentially, the inside of my foot... The soft tissue and all. I would say that the MRI experience was the best part of this whole thing. I am a sucker for medical advancements and technology, so I kind of felt like I was in my own Discovery Channel world. The MRI machines are LOUD as fuck. It was almost like being at some uber underground techno dance club in Berlin, because the noise that the machine makes, is actually in time. Kind of soothing to be honest. I dimmed the lights, broke out a glow stick and went full on Discovery Discotheque in there.

Sunday 10
Tonight I will be appearing at Guitar Hero II Midnight Madness which is taking place at Best Buy in West Los Angeles, 11301 W Pico Blvd. (at Sawtelle Blvd.) Billy and I will be doing a live CFR broadcast from there to help promote the new game, Guitar Hero II. We will be there from 10:30PM-12:30AM PST.
1. Is the makeup a shield, an impenetrable layer protecting you from the world?
Well, make up is hardly an impenetrable layer... If anything, it brings about even more judgment and negative comments to have to deflect than anything else. I look at it as an amplification of a side of my personality, as well as a tipping of the hat to some of my favorite artists that came before me. Glamour and the street... Slutty, tragedy, entertainment... Plus, I just enjoy it. At the end of the day, some men might feel threatened and question my sexuality, but that's fine with me because while they are tripping, their girlfriends are saying, "I love your eye shadow!"
2. I remember you saying to Larissa on SRL that you weren't going to mention where you travel anymore, but is this (poker photo) your subconscious need to inform the Spread Mafia of your location?
Well, the chances of the Straight Flush Wheel are so slim, that it was worth breaking my vow of silence. Plus, I didn't post the photo until I was out of there anyway. I can always say where I was, just not where I am going.
3. How do you decide what questions to post on the '10'?
Really, anything that grabs me will get a response. I primarily go with questions that haven't already been covered in interviews or on a previous Sunday.
4. Can you please give us a play by play of your straight flush?
I was dealt an A, 2 of Clubs - The flop was 3, 5 of Clubs and a 4 of hearts. I had flopped the Straight Wheel. At that point, I went all in and a few players dropped out. Another player had A, 2 unsuited and called. We turned the cards over and we both had Wheels... It looked as though it was going to be a chop-chop situation but when the turn came, the 4 of clubs fell. It was all over!
5. How'd you get a picture of your hand? I'm assuming you were in Vegas and I know they don't allow cameras.
I just pulled out my phone and shot it. Pretty simple, really. Nobody said anything about it.
6. Would you ever date someone that wasn't "rich and famous" -- someone that is just an everyday normal person?
Of course I would. I'm obviously not looking for a girlfriend right now, but when it comes to matters of the heart, there are no guidelines or parameters.
7. What does it mean to you to have the gold star of blogging, any feeling about it?
Well, I know for a fact that there are many incredible bloggers here, so the fact that we won best blog, to me, is more a testament to all the support I have here than anything else. I really appreciate how so many of you went over and voted... For that I am both grateful and touched. I think the Gold Star should be for the Most Supportive Online Family than Best Blog. Either way, that is how I look at it.
8. If your out and about does it piss you off to have fans coming over and squealing all over you and asking for pics and autographs?
Well, it doesn't happen that often, but I never get pissed. I appreciate support from the people who got me where I am today. The only thing that does piss me off is when they get nasty if I can't do a picture. I've said this before, but when I am in a huge public place, like an airport or a club or eating or whatever, I can't do pictures because I end up doing them all night. A flash is like a big signal that says... Picture time! (Especially now - EVERYBODY has a digital camera!) You wouldn't believe how aggressive and angry people get. "Can I have a picture?" "No, not right now, but nice to meet you. Have a great night." "Ewwww, you're a fuckin' asshole! Fuck you!" "...?..."
9. I wrote a response to an LA Times writer who thought it was goofy that you were doing this (Guitar Hero II PS Game appearance) tonight.
Thank you! Here is the funny thing... He doesn't realize that he has actually spent his time WRITING about something that someone else is doing. As an LA Times writer, shouldn't he write about something that is actually news? In any event, I appreciate your response to him. We are gonna have a blast tonight. If it's goofy to show up and hang out with the people who support me and Billy, then... You know what I say don't you? "That guy can EAT A DICK, SON!!!" Maybe he's just upset that there is no "Bullshit Story LA Times Writer II Game" that HE'S featured in! I think that having my music featured in a game is pretty awesome! This guy might be singing a different tune when they come out with a game where you can pretend to be a worthless hack among great writers that get the good stories.
10. Recently, you've been doing a lot of hosting parties and events. Do you enjoy doing these?
Lately I really have been enjoying all that stuff. Now that the record is out, the show is wrapped and we aren't on tour yet, it's kind of fun to just go and hang without having to promote anything. I'm sure I'll get sick of it sooner or later, as I usually do, but for now... It's on!!! Ya herd?

The MySpace Awards are out and guess what? We won best blog!!! Thank you to everyone who voted and supported this site! Things are already looking up as we have been given THIS gold star! To celebrate our victory, I'm taking a little vacation this weekend. Had we lost, I would have planned a get away. A win is a vacation and a loss is a get away. In any event, I am going out of town for a few days. The Spread Radio Live Indie Artist Contest should be up tonight, so go check out the five new bands and vote for your favorite. We may have found our newest VIxen too, but she has to e-mail Loop over at SRL. (You know who you are!)

Indie Artist of the Month
It's finally time to get started with the new Indie Artist of the Month contest on Spread Radio Live. We have selected five new artists that will be participating. You can listen to them and vote for your favorite soon as we will be launching the contest over the next couple of days at the Spread Radio Live site. The winner will be featured on the site and put into heavy rotation on the station. We
are still, however, in need of a new Vixen! Anyone? Anyone? I know it must be intimidating to submit any photos as our official SRL girl, Raiana of KHZ, is so smoking HOT, but please, do us this service. By the way, it just so happens that it is Raiana's birthday today!!!! Happy Birthday baby girl!!! We love you! Go over to the KHZ Space and wish her a great day!
The new Storm Large track, Ladylike is now available on iTunes. Storm invited me to play on the track and it really came out killer. Storm is bad ass!!!
Thanx to everyone who helped vote for The Panic Channel and this blog, especially Allan, who kept us updated throughout the process! I can't really figure out who won what, as it appears that they just started over. We shall see.
This just in: Meet Gavin from New Smyrna, Florida! He has put together the year's "scariest" costume idea, but somehow, HE makes it work! What an adorable little dude! Thank you Gavin, I am honored! Thanx to Savannah for sending me the photo. Happy Halloween to you and your family!
