Pete Doherty Watch: First Comes Drugs, Then Comes Marriage

THE LATEST: Those crazy kids have gone and done it. Pete Doherty and Kate Moss have confirmed rumors that they’re engaged. At a Moet and Chandon Ball held in London this week, Doherty and Moss both were full of excitement about their impending vow-reciting. “Yes, we are getting married — if she’ll have me,” a typically composed and humble Pete reportedly said. According to a guest at the party (which was also attended by Elizabeth Jagger and Scarlett Johansson, among others) Kate was all about showing off her antique diamond engagement ring, and Moss and Doherty sang karaoke to each other all night. Their super-romantic song choices? Reportedly the Beatles’ “Come Together” and the Carpenters’ “Close to You,” among others. We’re not sure “Come Together” works for a serenade (joo-joo eyeballs are not romantic) but you know what? People do crazy things when they’re in love.

THE LATEST: One of the best sources for Pete and Kate-related info is this nebulous “uncle” who is always popping up all cheery and helpful with quotes about how in love Kate and Pete are. In this latest installment “Pete’s uncle” claims that Kate Moss is officially pregnant with Pete Doherty’s child and that both parents-to-be are ecstatic and so on. Presumably Pete doesn’t want this kind of sensitive personal info leaked to the masses? Or not.

Pete Doherty Watch: Reunion Dreams, Kate Gets Naked (Again)

THE LATEST: The future Mrs. Pete Doherty has caused quite a frenzy via her newest clip for saucy British lingerie line Agent Provocateur. The new short, which is the third out of four mini-films collectively titled Dreams of Miss X and directed by Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) apparently features Moss stripping down to her panties. We can’t tell for sure, though, because the Agent Provocateur Web site is charging to download the advertisement, which immediately made us feel like we were officially scouring the Net for porn at work. Which we basically were. Let’s all just calm down and watch Kate pole dance in that White Stripes video. It’s art. Seriously. It is.

Pete Doherty Watch: Babyshambles Tour Cancelled, Pete Still Sober, Still Getting Married

THE LATEST: The news that Pete’s band Babyshambles has canceled what dates remained in their UK tour comes as a bit of a shock, only because Pete so rarely makes any remotely self-preserving moves. Word is that Pete and his people realized the rocker got back to work too quickly post-rehab and have decided to pull him out of the touring spotlight. An EMI spokesman reportedly said, “Peter embarked on this arduous and high profile tour too soon after his discharge and still needs time to recover from rehab.” Interesting theory.
Fortunately, recent news suggests the rocker is still capable of producing juicy news, even if he is sober. Pete’s uncle reports that Kate Moss and Pete are already engaged and are planning to host a wedding/birthday extravaganza in Ibiza on January 16th, which will be Kate Moss’ 33rd birthday. And they might be coming here for their honeymoon! It’s all very exciting.

Pete Doherty Watch: A Poetry-Reading Drug Counselor?

THE LATEST: On Thursday Pete will be reading selections by one of his favorite poets, Siegfried Sassoon, on British television in honor of National Poetry Day. Pete reportedly gave colorful descriptions of how literature got him through his stint in prison, citing Emily Dickinson and Rimbaud as particularly helpful.

“[I read] Crime And Punishment!” he told The Guardian, explaining his literary choices in lockdown. “Except my cellmate at the time kept pulling his shorts down and getting his knob out, and going, ‘Is this normal, Pete?’ And I’m trying to read.” That must have been . . . distracting?

Maybe these little anecdotes will serve Pete well if he takes a job as drug counselor at the Priory clinic, which he left, oh you know, nine days ago. Apparently the counselors on staff were particularly impressed with Pete’s willingness to admit he has a problem. We’re hoping it takes more than a well-timed display of honesty to qualify one for this kind of job, but whatever. He does have a lot of fans to care for back at the clinic.

Pete Doherty Watch: Purchasing Drug Paraphernalia in Dublin?

THE LATEST: Recent reports allege that just three days and fifteen hours after getting out of rehab, Pete was spotted buying two hypodermic syringes from a drug store in Dublin. Now let’s not jump to conclusions. They could be for . . . something other than shooting drugs. Right?

In related news, it seems that Pete’s rehab stint at the Priory Clinic actually upped attendance. Apparently, during Doherty’s spell at the facility some of his groupies took to showing up and complaining of anxiety and other ailments, then asking if Pete was around. According to a source at the clinic, “Pete has even visited some of the girls and helped them write poems. They are hooked on his every word — it’s frightening. They think being in rehab is cool . . . it’s not.”

Pete Doherty and Kate Moss: In Love, Onstage, And Moving to New Jersey?
Life is so exciting since Pete got out of rehab! Kate Moss apparently joined the rocker onstage Monday night at Carlow’s Music Factory in Ireland, helping sing a rendition of “La Belle et La Bete” off Babyshambles debut Down in Albion. In addition to allegedly drinking lager in front of her sober boyfriend and allowing these attractive pics of her nostrils to be taken, Kate apparently smoked up a storm in the club, which is totally illegal in Ireland. Pete was allegedly lighting up too, and the rebellious pair could face prosecution for their reckless abuse of public air.

UPDATE: Okay, now Pete is going to design clothes and, after the seemingly inevitable wedding, the couple is settling down in leafy New Jersey? Whatever.

Pete Doherty Watch: Out of Rehab, On the Road With Kate in Tow

THE LATEST: Yesterday we reported that the wedding of Kate Moss to Pete Doherty might be, like, for real, on. Pete’s post-rehab activities certainly reaffirm that suggestion, as the rocker and his girlfriend reportedly made out like teenagers at Heathrow airport after his release. The pair were on their way to Ireland where Babyshambles was scheduled to play the first of several dates. According to the Babyshambles Web site, the singer has Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights off. So that bodes well for the wedding thing, but he has also earned a mysterious giant shiner on his right eye, which could be a wedding photo dealbreaker for anyone else. To be continued.

Pete Doherty Watch: Getting Married Rumor #598, This Time It’s True?

THE LATEST: The (totally unsubstantiated) rumor is that it’s almost “I Do” time for a newly sober Pete Doherty and his long-suffering girlfriend Kate Moss. The rocker will apparently be let out of the Priory Clinic sometime in the next day or so, and will head straight to an undisclosed location where he and Kate will be married. A source at the clinic explains that Pete now holds the key to staying clean: not taking drugs. “In counselling sessions he has said things that show he knows what he needs to do - stop taking drugs and seek help as soon as feels the urge to do so.”

THE LATEST: Well that’s kinda hot. After tromping around New York Fashion Week for a few days, Kate Moss apparently went back home and got busy with her boyfriend Pete Doherty. The whole locked-away-in-rehab thing was apparently no match for the passionate fire burning between these two, who reportedly enthusiastically made out (and other stuff) on the lawn at the Priory Clinic. Peter Doherty was born in Hexham, Northumberland, England. He grew up at a number of army garrisons as a result of his Irish father Peter's work as an officer in the British Army, living at various times at garrisons in Catterick, Belfast, Germany, Bedworth, Dorset and Larnaca, along with his mother Jacqueline, a nurse of part Jewish descent, and two sisters, Amy Jo and Emily. Doherty was the second of the three children. He was academically successful, achieving 5 grade A* and 6 grade A GCSEs, at Nicholas Chamberlaine Comprehensive School in Bedworth (although this has erroneously been reported as 11 grade A*s, and four passes at A Level, two at grade A. At the age of 16, he won a poetry competition and embarked on a tour of Russia organised by the British Council.

After his A-levels he moved to his grandmother's flat in London, where he said he felt 'destined' to be, and got a job filling graves in Willesden Cemetery, although most of his time was spent reading and writing while sitting on gravestones.

He attended Queen Mary, part of the University of London, to study English literature, but left the course after his first year.

After leaving university, he moved into a London flat with his friend and fellow musician Carl Barât, who had been a classmate of Doherty's older sister at Brunel University.

Doherty was voted to be joint in alternative music magazine NME's 2004 Cool List, along with fellow Libertine Carl Barât.It is a common misconception that it was only Doherty that topped the list. The following year he was placed at #6, and on May 10, 2006 was voted in their poll depicting 50 of rock's greatest 'heroes'.
