Sunday 10

1. Why would you be friends with that gossip trasher. Are you really that in need of press?

I have answered this a million times before but I'll give it a shot one last time. I met Perez at an Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS event in Chicago several months ago when The Panic Channel performed. Not only did he end up being a very nice guy but I also love that in this day of gossip tabloid journalism, that a blogger has taken the front seat. Perez doesn't hide in an office somewhere and report from behind a keyboard, safely away from public scrutiny. He puts himself out there as well. He is usually AT the things he is reporting about and even publishes his own pictures along with the stories, something I have always wondered why more gossip columnists refuse to do. He answers his e-mail and is willing to take a lot of shit that should go along with this type of celebrity gossip story telling. I also love the fact that his blog now gets more hits than US, In Touch, L&S, etc. Those corporate outlets now go to him for their ideas. He is, quite simply, a blogger who has taken over and is accessible. As I have always said, if you are gonna be a critic or a gossip reporter, make yourself available. He does just that and for that reason I have no problem with what he does. Frankly, he is also just way funnier than anyone else. Sure I have taken my share of lumps on his site, but at least I can shoot an e-mail over and say, "Dude? What the fuck?" and he'll answer it. If I am to be an advocate of "Taking it all back" then I should be that way in all areas. Also, the best part of it for me, is that by supporting his site and blog style, I am at the same time, saying "Fuck you!" to all the other outlets. It's a win/win!

2. We are reading Glen Gary, Glen Ross for my English lit class. I know the movie is one of your favorites. What do you find so interesting about it?

Well, the film is full of incredible performances by the entire cast including Alec Baldwin, who Mamet wrote the part specifically for in the theatrical version. Also, the dialogue is quite simply, amazing. It's a story full of drama and tension that is set in the mundane world of salesmen that is told through dialogue and performance. That is something very hard to accomplish on film these days. People tend to want fast, easy slick productions that do the work for them. In Glen Gary, all you have to do is listen. In fact, I once put the film in a player and only the audio worked, the monitor was shot. The audio alone was just as captivating as seeing the film in it's entirety.

3. What was that thing in your mouth in the photo w/ Perez Hilton?

That is a Cuban Romeo and Jullietta cigar!

4. Is it necessary to go all the way back to Season One if you are going to get into Nip/Tuck?

I cannot begin to express the seriousness of the issue you have put to the floor. YES! By all means, if you have any intention of getting into Nip/Tuck, you MUST start from the beginning. Sure, it'll take a few episodes to get into the meat of the show and what is so compelling about it, but once you do, you will thank me. Sit through all the character development, story arcs and threads. It will pay off in a rainbow of glory by the time you hit the season where they introduce The Carver.

5. In all your travels, what is the single most depraved thing you've ever seen?

You have no idea how much I want to answer this one. HAHA. Let's just say that I have seen a lot. Pretty much anything that doesn't involve abuse, harm, death, etc. Well, maybe some harm, but I was asking for it. Anyway, I can't responsibly go into detail here, but I will say that given my history of drug use, touring and sexual situations, I have seen just about as much as anyone ever needs to see, however, I am open to taking a look at anything else that I may have missed!

6. Is there anyone in The Panic Channel who is the "organizer" of the group? Who makes sure the band keeps moving forward?

Well, Steve Isaacs and I control our online worlds and stay in touch with the people. We would never give our digital interface away to anyone with a corporate stink on them. We do have management who does what they can in terms of getting us out there and doing shows and so forth. I suppose you could say that the only people who keep us moving forward are Steve, me, Perk and Chaney, management and all of you. When it comes to simple organization and communication between the band members, Steve is usually the one most on top of things. I would say that in many ways, he is the "leader" when it comes to certain decisions, but even in those cases, we operate completely democratically as a band between the four of us.

7. Who got the dogs?

Awww, they are Carmen's babies! She has them.

8. Who would you rather do? Perez Hilton or Paris Hilton?

Tough call. Perez would make it all about me and Paris would make it all about her. Let me get back to you on this after I have a more informed answer.

9. Are there going to be any more TPC small club tour dates before January?

We are currently in the ideas phase of putting together a solution as to why we are not out on the road and what we can do about it as I type this. This post SHOULD be being crafted from the back of a tour bus or even a van right now. As soon as we know, you will know.

10. How do you feel about people who recognize you in public coming up to you for an autograph, photo, or even just to chat?

I am always good with the autograph and the hello, but the photo thing is usually a day to day variable. Sometimes I am into it and sometimes I am not. I never mind the asking, but when I sometimes decline, people tend to get really angry. Now, if they say they are from the Family, Asylum, Mafia or TPC site... That is a different story. Also, kids... Always kids no matter what! If I am in a conversation or eating or having private time, I'll decline. Also, in huge public areas I decline, because once a flash goes off, the night becomes what I call The Wax Museum. If you do one, you gotta do them all and end up standing there like a wax figure for a long time. So, I am pretty flexible but I still have some guidelines.

Whats question number 3?

Posted by: cowgirl at October 15, 2006 11:00 AM

Awwwww, I thought you were going to answer the one about how big is "majestic." I had the plasticine out ready and everything.

Posted by: cowgirl at October 15, 2006 11:04 AM

I really like Perez.
And dude, this totally made me laugh. Priceless... yet still sexy.

"Go to dinner, house music, go to a club, house music, visit the dearly departed at a local cemetery... HOUSE MUSIC!!!"

And that's a bad thing... why??? LOL

Actually, much as I love house myself, that beat CAN get repetitive/annoying after a while... gotta change the beat every now and again, which is what good DJs do...

Glad you sorta enjoyed yourself in Miami.

Here's a question 3 or 4 for ya:

3) What was that thing in your mouth in the photo w/ Perez Hilton?

Have a great day, everyone. I'm off to a funeral soon (my 2nd one this week! I guess October really IS a morbid month.) I don't expect to hear house music at this one, unfortunately. Mine will be a different story, but hopefully that won't happen for another 50 or 60 years...

May the spirits of the departed watch over and protect you all.

Mournfully yours,

Dave - where do you see yourself in 10 years? Making more records, on tour, more TV, in the backyard with kids, the Playboy mansion with babes?? Is there a master plan or do you just go with it?

Posted by: Schwing at October 15, 2006 11:23 AM

PS. I respect your thoughts on Perez Hilton. I too respect the fact that (other than the obviously fake name) he's not afraid to be himself, do what he wants to do, and say what he wants to say. And he does it better than most!

Over and out,

Posted by: Denise at October 15, 2006 11:25 AM

If you weren't a musician among many other talented things you are..comedian, what would you want to be?

Posted by: Tina at October 15, 2006 11:32 AM

Am I missing something....the Sunday 10 is three questions? Just checking. ;-)

Hey Dave!

Is there anyone in hte panic channel that who is the "organiser" of the group? who makes sure the band keeps moving forward?

Posted by: Morisson at October 15, 2006 11:35 AM

Can you ever see yourself having your own T.V show?
I think this would be cool. You would make a great interviewer, and there'd be a lot of humour. And of course..the music.

Posted by: cinnamongirl at October 15, 2006 11:40 AM

And also of course you could have a cakemaking/cookery slot in your T.V program.

Posted by: cinnamongirl at October 15, 2006 11:42 AM

Tell us more about your plans for the studio. Are you doing a tv show? What kinds of guests do you plan to interview? Maybe you should interview normal people..haha. Kind of turn the whole thing around, i.e. the celebrity who interviews normal folks (like your fans).

Posted by: gemma at October 15, 2006 11:48 AM

Is it necessary to go all the way back to Season One if you are going to get into Nip/Tuck? How much do you actually get from the sale of one CD? Just bought Trust NoOne Cd and it was $18. Thanks! By the way, your voice is awesome on that CD.

Posted by: Tina at October 15, 2006 11:51 AM

This was asked, but I like it too: If you weren't a musician what would you be?

What is one of your favorite songs that you wish you had written?

I'm kinda brain dead at the moment. Can't come up with a good one. I'll enjoy reading whatever you give us.

Posted by: Stephanie at October 15, 2006 11:51 AM

Do you cook much? If so what is your "speciality."

Posted by: can't think of a good qestion at October 15, 2006 11:51 AM

Dave how come you won't podcast SRL? I'm sure someones recording it so all they would have to do is cut out the music and send it to you like CFR right?

Posted by: heynow at October 15, 2006 11:53 AM

You must get women (and men) coming onto you all the time. Whats the worst pulling line you've heard.

O.K if you had to interview three people from the past, who would they be? (Or just one would do)

Hey Dave,

1. In all your travels, what is the single most depraved thing you've ever seen?

2. Given the dramtic rise of internet commerce, do you see this a threat to the growth of the global economy vis-a-vie their impact on big box retailers?

3. Who got the dogs?

Oh Oh! I have a question!

When you perform, do you find that you feel more comfortable on stage playing from when you first started? Or were you always chillin'?

And I must say, the video with at the Admiral's club was very amusing! I loved the beat box! Fuckin' classic! :)

Be well,

Hey dave,
here's a quick one for ya
i'm guitar shopping, and i wanted to know what are the pros and cons of picking a PRS over a fender strat?
Other than kick ass glam design w/golden knobs and frets and all that?

Posted by: Felipe at October 15, 2006 12:09 PM

Thanks for answering the Glen Gary question! I'm about 1/4 of the way thru the play...gotta see the film afterwards. Isn't it amazing how great writers can show you thru only dialogue, everything they want to portray. We have actually discussed what you said about Hollywood using so many fancy bells and whistles to sell a movie. David Mamet shines by utilizing only his words to depict everything he wants to show us about society and money, he's that good, he doesn't need fluff to fall back on! That's truly a mark of a great artist...you've got good taste DN. ;)

I'd highly recommend you see "Death of a Salesman" if you haven't (with Dustin Hoffman and a young John Malkovitch), amazing film based on the Auther Miller play. Netflix will definitely have it.

Im off to study my ass off for a history midterm. Have a nice lazy Sunday Dave and 67ers!
Love, Amber :)

Posted by: Ambersonian at October 15, 2006 12:13 PM

Ha, I wondered who got the dogs too, but my guess is Carmen.

#1. Dave, what artist(s) have you not yet had the chance or opportunity to perform or record with yet that you would like to do so with in the future?

#2. Are there going to be any more TPC small club tour dates before January?

Thanks!

Posted by: Erica at October 15, 2006 12:14 PM

Dave...

1) I made a post at the community saying that I didn't think you were worried about lagging album sales, or that the Supernova tour has been going through some changes...I've always read that you were doing the music this time not for critical or financial acclaim, but just to do the damm thing? Is this still correct, or is sixy right AGAIN? haha

2) What's the latest update on the fall photo show? Is it going to be at the Shooting Gallery?

3)Can you fire up a Sunday SRL for a girl ?

4)What's on the menu for an anything goes Sunday? Soup, frozen yogurt, mozzarella sticks?

5) Who would you do? Perez Hilton or Paris Hilton? hahahahhaha..I do like the blond Perez..brings out his eyes!!

Love to you and yours this Sunday!!
jezzi(anything goes!)

I just thought of another. What the status on the FX show, The Product? When does it premiere?

Posted by: Stephanie at October 15, 2006 12:25 PM

Don't know if this'll make it, since there's already a lot of questions. But I've always been curious, how do you feel about people who recognize you in public coming up to you for an autograph, photo, or even just to chat? Do you enjoy it for the most part, or does it feel more like being pestered when you're just trying to relax? You seem pretty easygoing, but I figure it's good for future reference, since some celebrities hate being recognized/approached in the grocery store or while they're eating at a restaurant, and things like that.

Posted by: Sophie at October 15, 2006 12:37 PM

I loved that Venus in Furs video as well. I also wish you'd do a Black Sabbath cover or maybe this is for Camp Freddy to do?

Posted by: gemma at October 15, 2006 12:40 PM

Dave I understand you are a vegan. This must really limit your choice of cakes. Do you know of any good vegan cake recipes? Do you eat less cakes now you are a vegan?

Dave,

It seems we have similar tastes in movies and TV. I heard you're a fan of The Office. If so, you should check out a canadian series that came out well before it called "The Newsroom." in some ways it's even funnier, especially since it's around the media. You can get it on DVD, and for some strange reason, it airs on PBS late on Saturday nights.

Posted by: walkyrie333 at October 15, 2006 05:25 PM

Dude, you have to check out Dlisted.com. It's a gossip site that is effing HIGHlarious.
