MySpace Profile Awards/Lost Numbers
Looks like The Panic Channel is up for a MySpace Profile Award. To vote, click here.
It has also been brought to my attention that I am up for the best blog category! To vote for me, click here.
What else? Well, I broke my phone. I am with Verizon, which has always been a great service in terms of reception. I mean, I get service at all times, never drop a call, even when my friends can't connect with T-Mobile, Cingular and Sprint. They are, without a doubt, the best provider around in terms of service... HOWEVER, their phones do not have Sim cards! I lost over 600 phone numbers! Ughhh! I went in to one of their outlets to try to get all the numbers out of my broken phone and they were unable to do it. The feeling was a lot like I imagine death would be. Anyway, they then ask, "Do you have our backup assistant?" No. Evidentially, they have a phone book address back up thing you can subscribe for by paying an extra 1.99 a month. Let me tell you, if you have Verizon, this will be the best 24.00 you will spend a year. Get it! It is one of those little things they have that they don't tell you about until it's too late! I am now pretty up to date with all the numbers I lost that I call, but I still am screwed with all the ones that I don't. What I have learned is this. It is important to keep every number you ever get, so that if a call comes in that you don't want to answer, you can avoid it! My phone has two types of numbers in it. The ones I answer, and the ones I don't. Now, when 555-555-5555 comes up, I have to go through the whole voice mail dance and it is really a pain in the ass. The funny thing is this. All the "high profile" numbers I lost are easy to get back. It's usually just a call or two to a friend or my office or whatever. What sucks the most is all the lost numbers of random people I meet in bars or clubs or on the street that I can never get back. That little part of me has died and is gone forever. People say, "Maybe it's a good thing. You are streamlining and starting over." If I am gonna streamline, I am gonna start with my closet! Take this as a cautionary tale. Verizon subscribers... Get that Backup Assistant!
This is actually a pretty descent article that first ran in Billboard and has now been picked up by a few outlets. See? Not ALL journalists are evil!

Hope you get the award Dave, you definately got my vote.....
On to the comment made by Sigmund Fraud yesterday, 1% anus? I have been a part of this community for the past 4 years or so, the 1% is homage to one of the best tracks Janes laid down, I have been a fan of Janes/Dave since I was 12 years old, and think its pathetic when ass clowns bring down the tone of this site, hence i only post once in a while......so 1%
Yeah i'm 1% of the c***sucking prick you seem to be, because you my friend seem to be 100% tosser.
Fuck you, my you live long and may all your kids be ginger

Dave that was totally freaky. Commented on the post on the myspace thing and then checked back and this time the rest of the text was up... Does that mean you're actually interactive at this point? I just fell off my chair.
REALLY sorry about your phone, that is total bullshit. With the new one if you can be arsed maybe you should back it up. Silky. x.x.x
Posted by: Silky at October 10, 2006 11:22 AM
dave that is so cool you take "random" people's phone number's from the street and bars etc. that is so not hi profile of you. that is especially why i dig you. xoxo erika
Posted by: erika at October 10, 2006 11:25 AM
Ouch, Dave! That sucks! I lost about 200+ in my phone and I damn near had a heart attack. I can't even imagine how lost you feel. It's crazy how much our freakin' cell phones mean to us, huh? And you didn't ask me for my number when we were at The Rainbow. What's up with that?! Now THAT would have been random. Then again I didn't ask you for yours. I lost my phone with the sim card so that doesn't always work either. Maybe that'll make you feel better.
Posted by: Jenn at October 10, 2006 11:30 AM
Damn--600 or even Jenns 200+ numbers
I've got no more than 10 numbers and those are safe written down in my old fashioned hand written paper phone book..Old skool! Technology is a good thing = pen and paper. I haven't lost them yet!

All Your Blogs Are Belong To Us
...All Your Cell Phone Numbers Are Belong To Verizon
Posted by: the Legion at October 10, 2006 11:46 AM
Keep all my important phone numbers in a backed up database.
I kind of detest cell phones...worked too many years in advertising with clients calling me at all hours of the day.
But I Keep one anyway...for family calls.
Simplification can be a very good thing.
Love to ya!

Hey folks, if possible can we keep the swearing and vulgarities to a mimimum? Thank you!
ps - Dave, sorry to hear about your phone. That sux!
Posted by: ChristyP at October 10, 2006 11:52 AM
Was it a RAZR? Same thing happened to me with that shitty phone.
Haven't been here much lately, was a bit too crazy with the 500+ comments a day thing, but it seems to be dying down.
That was a really good article, seemed raw and honest. But you seem surprisingly humble about being a "multi media artist." Dude, you had a blog back in 98/99 before that shit even existed! Granted, it was a more free-form, chaotic web site than a traditional blog, but still, all the elements were there. You embraced the internet and used it in ways no one else did at the time. Now, it seems everyone is going down a path you helped lay down years ago. Be proud about that shit, son, you helped start a fucking movement of artists/musicians using the internet to showcase their thoughts, music/art, and full on interact with visitors and fans! :)
Peace!

Aw Dave!
You should do an ad for Verizon! I just got a new phone from them - and everything I had saved is gone - and that was 20 or 30 items..... so that means you lost my number too, right?
hehehehehehe
Posted by: Angel at October 10, 2006 12:08 PM
dave, after the nashville gig why did you ask where the best strip club was and then go talk politics at a club? or was it a strip club....
also are there going to be anymore "alice in jane's" covers on the upcoming tour for One?

Hi Dave~
JD from Austin TX here ~
I notice you never allude to any of the crazy BS that the US government has been up to for the past 6 years. How do you feel about the war, the disintegrating of our freedoms, and the mess our country seems to be in?
Thanks.

I was looking for the 'Mountain Song' cover from Houston/Alice in Janes/TPC. Couldn't find it, but did find this, which is a Mountain Song video some clown made.
Worth a 2 1/2 mins...

cell phones suck, they just suck your soul right from you... we use them to stay connected but what is the first thing you do when someone calls? stop what you're doing and walk away from the people you're actually with... they are truely evil.
the article link was refreshing in that there's no mention as to who dave is not fucking...
Posted by: john at October 10, 2006 12:48 PM
Phones bite! Just a suggestion.... If you have your verizon bills. your phone numbers are listed there. Just have to figure out who is who. I'm not with verizon anymore, but I believe you manage your account online you can put alias' for the phone numbers. Maybe back order your bills if you don't have them anymore. I'm sure you have some assistant or something that can spend the time researching. :D
have a lovely day!

Legend, you're only trying to perpetuate a stupid internet fad that for all intents and purposes has died out except with you.
That's what happens when you try to jump on a bandwagon that's already left the hitching post.
All your basement dwelling, video game playing, name hijacking, sorry pathetic grammatically challenged asses *…* belong to us!

Quote Dave:
"What sucks the most is all the lost numbers of random people I meet in bars or clubs or on the street that I can never get back."
Dave, you know you're gonna get a million 'random people' sending you their #s now, telling you theirs is one of the ones you lost! rofl
Good luck with that!
Oh, & the comment you made in the Billboard article....
"I really just feel that the media today is really responsible for kind of f---ing up the sensitivities of America. I think that now that we all have the technology at our fingertips to put out there what we want, it's our responsibility to do that."
Thinking like that is why we love ya Dave!

hey dave, so how did you break your phone in the first place?
Posted by: nikki at October 10, 2006 01:02 PM
That truly sucks Dave. I just had that happen recently but I don't have nearly as many numbers to worry about. :-) Technology can be a pain sometimes!

Dave do yourself a favor and check out amp'd mobile. They use the Verizon network and have such a cool product to offer. Its a media entertainment phone and 99 cent music downloads that you own. You get the USB cable with the phone and can transfer your own music onto it as well and move what you bought off it and back again. You can watch fox sports, news and E and MTV etc on it also. And the prices are great. Can you tell I work for them???? Check it out everyone. Entertain yourself and get Amp'd. Better yet had to Best Buy and see the demo phones on display in there. Our new Motorola Razr comes out next week too!

Great article. Sorry to hear about your phone. I just switched to Verizon from Nextel and I really like it much better. I got the Chocolate Phone. Any how thanks for the heads up on the phone book back up address thing. I will be looking into that today.
Good luck with the Myspace awards I have been voting for you since last night.

BUT the crap you have been saying about people, to people and all the other shit you have been pulling here for the last few weeks constitutes HARRASSMENT. and that is punishable.

Hey Unreal,
Sound advice.
Should I start with my parents, the police, or go directly to Donal Rumsfeld?
Love Paul
Posted by: Paul sez fuck you at October 10, 2006 01:55 PM
Go directly to Donal*d* Paul, he's got the bigger guns. Although, he's been known to be a little 2-faced at times, he might turn on you too.
I don't think your parents would care, your mom was having a hard enough time the other day trying to get you up out of the basement to change your nappy.
Posted by: Unreal! at October 10, 2006 02:01 PM
Hey Dave,
You have a CDMA phone. The other phones with the "chips" or sim cards are GSM phones. I used to work for two different networks and sold both types of phones. For CDMA/TDMA phones, you can get a transfer cable that will take all your numbers and transfer them over to your new phone, depending on what type of damage you have done to your phone. You should speak to someone who has been in the industry for quite awhile, they may have these cables on hand and the know how to tranfer your info for you. Just recently there was a report on how people are able to retrieve information from these phones. Even if the origianl owner thought they had deleted them completely, the information is actually still sitting in your phone. Unless you have smashed the thing all to hell, there is a chance of someone else getting all your info out of your old phone. Hopefully, you took your phone back and not have another Paris Hilton episode....hope this helps and love your site. T

Posted by: dot at October 10, 2006 02:20 PM
Losing phone #'s sucks but I am old fashioned and keep a hard copy of all my numbers in a little phone book for such emergencies. I'm sure it's hard w/the amount of numbers you stumble across.
I read that article this morning. Good read!
