A Late Sunday 10
1. Do you still have your cuckoo clock collection?
I don't. One of the things I do from year to year is streamline, which means I pretty much get rid of the majority of "stuff" that I own. I am the kind of guy who likes to own very little. I have my flat screen with TiVo, DVD & satellite connection, my computers, my clothes and my car. Every couple of years I go through all of my stuff and either sell it, give it to charity or give it away to friends. I don't like clutter. Sometimes though, I miss that one little cuckoo...
2. In the spirit of partying, since you don't drink but you like to hang at the clubs, are there any virgin drinks that you like?
When I am out, I usually go with Diet Coke or water. It's funny because sometimes my friends who drink forget stuff that we do. Around 10 or 11pm, everyone around me is having fun and is charming and interesting. By 1 or 2am, some people start repeating themselves & talking too close. They get clipped. By 4am, it is up to me to remind everyone else the next day of where we were and if we had a good time. Of course, if we are out at 4am, we did!
3. If you do have a Cuckoo Clock collection, will you show photos?
Well, I don't have any photos but this is an episode of Cribs that ran a long time ago and highlights my collection at the time. With the exception of the art and the instruments, I have pretty much gotten rid of everything else in that house, including the house. I'll tell you, just watching that thing back right now sure brings back a lot of memories. Most of them great, some of them... Not so great. I guess that's why I like to reinvent my personal living space from year to year.
4. Would you ever consider having a whole show like Tom Green's from your own home?
What Tom does is SUPER innovative and is a huge commitment. His home is literally a television set. However, when the Spread Loft opens up in January, we will have broadcast capabilities. As for what we will be broadcasting... That will be revealed in a few months.
5. What happened at the after hours party in the hotel room?
Ummm... We rented The Notebook and just cried and cried and cried.
6. What are your favorite spots in Sin City?
There are a couple of hotels I like... The Hard Rock and The Palms, primarily because they are small and walking around in them isn't like going to another country. When I am in Vegas, I do what I can to avoid the outside at all costs, so my hotel becomes my world. They have to have the tables, the clubs, the restaurants and the vibe. Both hotels do, but The Palms has a poker room whereas the last time I was at The Hard Rock, they didn't.
7. Dave, do you think that Spread Entertainment will be the Vivid of the new millennium?
No, but once I am long dead and they open up the vault and find the "Lost Episodes" I'm sure that we'll give Vivid a run for their money!
8. What would be your ideal girl? Do you consider age when you are looking for a girlfriend or do you stick with who can make you happy?
That's like asking me what my ideal accordion is. If your are not in the market for one, there really aren't any specifications. Then, magically out of nowhere, you see it. It's keys and buttons glimmering in the light from across the room. And for one moment, the world moves in slow motion as your eyes lock upon it's bellow. It's almost as if you have never seen an accordion before.
9. Who's shoes are those anyway?
Late night... 5:00am drop off... Stumbling out of the car... Barefoot... Who can really say for sure?
10. Is that the same house that you lived in when you wrote "Don't Try This At Home"?
Yes.

Dave,
you charismatic, enigmatic sexy beast....been a fan forever and then some..perhaps in a previous life? Forgot the "Cribs" piece I had seen before, so cool...forcepts to cook with?
Anyway just wanted to say my 10 yr. old adores you, he plays guitar and wants to be you and Lukas Rossi , morphed into one. Had an online chat with a good freind of yours who is an absolute doll - although I am now catching shit on the RB forum for defending her point of you. She had wonderful things to say about you man.

I love that home-made Rexall video posted on You tube (one of the sexiest things I've seen in a while). Are you still into that scene? Which do you prefer, dom or sub? (I could see that you'd be a difficult sub.)
If you have any more of those videos...post 'em.

Hey - Glad your weekend was fun-filled and exciting.
I recently checked out that MTV Cribs segment on youtube and I too was wondering about the clocks and other stuff. I applaud your ability to discard things and live a clutter-free life. (I'm so sentimental - Like Chrissy, I hold onto little mementos for years and years because they mean so much to me.) Either way, you have all these great videos that allow you to reminisce, to see where you've been, what you've done, how far you've come... I'm sure it's gotta be strange for you to see some of this stuff, but you certainly have much to be proud of.
All the best,

You took a lot of drugs in your time. Do you feel this adversely affected your mental health? Is this something you have to work on as a result? I say this because I know a few people who have long term mental health problems even though they have stopped taking drugs. You seem surprisingly sane- apart from the wierd dress sense.

It was weird seeing that MTV cribs again - after having read don't try this at home. The photo booth is iconic.
Dave - really seriously - how come you re-invent / regenerate every couple of years? Is it anything to do with any Zen impluses where did that desire to clean out virtually all you own come from? Spill. I beg! I'm driving myself nuts asking a silent screen.

Every few years I weed out my clothes and send them to charity. I have 2 pair of shoes I kept from 1973. 1)A pair of Kelly green glitter wedge platforms -- 2)4inch high Rainbow color platforms. They don't fit anymore but for some nastalgic reason I just can't part with them!

Afternoon Dave. :-) Dude, 'like, oh, my God,' ;-) you are soooo evil... I woke up today with images of flaming hoola hoops and shoes that 'rule' in my brain. ;-P "I think you have too many shoes." (No, not really.) Good on ya for resisting clutter. I haven't mastered that lesson, yet. I think I still have stuff around here from when I was five. LOL I'm a collector from a family of the same. And because I get it from both sides, I wind up with things like swords on one side and miniature glass objects/art on the other. Books are my worst downfall. I'm a certified bibliophile and can't resist bookstores. "I try to get away... but they keep pulling me back in." The 'Crow' part of my soul also loves anything shiny (shiny is *good*) like colorful stones from the beach. Moving around lots has helped curb some of these instincts, though. Eventually a person just gets tired of hauling *stuff.* Give me another few decades and I may be down to a rice bowl and a tatami mat. ;-) That'll be the 'Haiku' stage of my existence, winding down from the earlier epic version. Rented "The Notebook" and cried, hey? Yeah. LOL 'That's your story and you're sticking to it.' Good man. LOL ;-) "Spread Entertainment" is going to be fun to watch unfold... can't wait to see what you do with that puppy in the New Year. :-) Have a good one and peace, all.

I know you are a big nap guy so when you know you are going to be up late at a function like Saturday night do you take a good 2 hour nap or what? I am only a year 1/2 younger than you & have done my share of shit that helped me stay up during parties. That all stopped a long time ago but I have since stayed up w/o drugs & I must say, I still think it basically makes you feel the same when you are sleep deprived due to drugs or just from stay up for so long. What is your take on that?

Morning Dave
(er, very early morning I think in PST).
I emailed you a "Cheeky f*ing request" at SRL email address last night in a surge of chaos. Hope the mail box is still alive. And I'm sorry too as I feel a bit guilty for doing that, it's a bit like when I used to get wasted, come home in the early hours and email people. Then remain oblivious til I saw the evidence in my inbox. I don't get fucked like that anymore so I don't have the excuse.
Anyway, what the hell. Maybe the stars will smile down and you being a kind soul might like what I sent and forward on to someone who you know will happily kick my ass to Mars.
Thank you.
