Support Our Troops!!!

We got this e-mail over at Spread Radio Live:

"Dave,

Dude thanks for doing what you do. Our office is under a bunch of Army
soldiers who were injured in current operations. A shout out from you would
make some of their days. If you are ever in Germany please take some time
to stop by and say hi to some of the finest Americans (and rockers) you will
ever meet. Cher stopped by a few weeks ago and it really lifted their
spirits and some of their spirits really need lifted. Anything you do would
be deeply appreciated. Peace.

My sincere thanks for the quick reply. A few of us just found out about the
web radio station and it is cool as hell. We are spreading the word. We are
in Kaiserslautern Germany-Kleber Army Kaserne, that is the belt between
Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center (the place on the news where the
severely wounded end up) and Ramstein Air Force base. We are nine hours
ahead of you guys. So 7 pm is 4 am for us. Also government computers are
famous for blocking streaming feeds so generally we download what we can off
the site after the broadcast (although live was a totally killer idea).
Your support and the support of Spread Radio means a lot to the troops."

We are going to send a collective written e-mail to these men and women with supportive messages from all of the TPC Asylum Members, The 6767 Family, The SRL Mafia and anyone else who wants to conribute. For the next 24 hours, send your message (Subject: For The Troops) to: spreadradiolive@6767.com

Hi Dave,
This is my first season to watch Rockstar and I just recently found your website. It's awesome! I have always thought you were an incredible musician, but I AM SO IMPRESSED with SRL and all the time that you devote to stay so personally in touch with your fans via the internet. You are amazing!

I will tell everyone I know about your site. Way to go on keeping it real! You are one of a kind! Thanks for supporting our troops!

Hey Dave. Mazal Tov on the Artiest of the Month. You deserve it. You work hard at what you're passionate about...it shows. Glad to hear Vegas was a blast. There's so much energy there, no one sleeps, but at least you'll get to catch up some rest soon. We all need to rest sometime so unplug the alarm. I was very enlightened to read about your conversation with that woman on the plane. Tatoos were a big no no in my house for that very reason. Anyway, it's wild how sometimes things happen and people come into our lives, even for a moment, when we least expect it. I had brunch with a woman on Sunday who just turned 103. I had met her on my birthday in May, and was all bummed cause I'm almost 40, and then we started talking and we became friends. I felt silly after I left that day. I learned that my life is only just beginning at 38! So, at breakast, she was telling me that women used to always wear dresses, and how they started wearing slacks because their husbands had to go off to war, so they had to go to work. She was telling me how much things have changed. She always trips out when I take her out. And after brunch, she told me she wanted ice-cream because we were celebrating her birthday. Her face lit up when the waitress brought her a big sundae. Could you imagine living to 103? Talking with someone that has been in this world a long time really puts a lot in perspective huh? I used to work in a convalescent hospital too and met a couple of survivors. One woman I spoke with was very apprehensive that someone was listening outside the door - it goes deeper than that tatoo. I can't even imagine experiencing something like that. All the people at the home have touched my life forever; I still reflect on the conversations that we have had. I volunteer at this rest home now and you see someone sitting there all quiet, then you start talking and you're hearing about WWII. I remember too when I got my first place and had nothing, one woman told me how to decorate based on how she did during the Depression - it's amazing how many things you could use an ironing board for. It's amazing what we can learn from our elders when we talk with them, amazing. Look forward to seeing you on the tube tomorrow night. I'm with you, whoever gets the gig, gets it. My daughter and I just enjoy watching and seeing who brings what to the table. They are all talented, and your honesty is refreshing. You have good energy. I don't do blogs, but yours I do. Peace from New Mexico. P.S. Just read your support the troups entry...I'm on it! You're positive energy is illuminating and spreading even farther. Coool.

That is so damn rad Dave. I'm in! But I won't be doing at that cyber place I was at 2nite. One thing I 4got 2 mention in the last post was the dude had already tried installing Winap/itunes etc. 2 no avail. At least I sent 7 resumes out. peace. CALIFORNIANS! PLZ VOTE YES ON 87! CHEVRON IS PAYING FOR THE ADS AGAINST IT but a YES will help the environment and much more. A no will cost Chevron. Thanx.

ha... I'm so retarded. I was thinking kinda like the srl voice whatever they are called..that everyone made a while ago. I've been sick all weekend....

nevermind. (feeling a little bit stupid)

Posted by: wendybird at September 4, 2006 11:38 PM

Hi Dave,

I caught part of your morning post and then I came in just now and read the middle part, I'm under the impression you added that in? Not sure..

Anyway, I find it interesting that you are now seeing things differently. The last writing clinic had the same information, I begged you to watch it. Well, at least it's not too late. I see a lot of people are moving over to Camp Toby. That's a good thing. I made a post a couple of days ago somewhere else that Toby brings a "fresh and modern twist" to the genre SN seems to be a part of, which I call classic style rock.

I was blown way that Gilby actually echoed this sentiment. I make my observations, I listen to SN, watch the contestants for a few weeks, then make my pick. It was Toby at about week 6, after the first writing clinic.

I'm avoiding spoilers so I can be surprized Tues. nite. I did go to the taping last week but that was my only week of knowing ahead of time.

So it feels like a real contest now that the cat's out of the bag.

I love how you use your fame for something worthwhile rather than being one of those celebritys that just focus on themselves. This and all your other causes you've helped support are inspirational. Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do...

It's the politicians who start wars and exacerbate conflicts as they flex their political muscles playing some crazy whacked out chess game with other people's lives, not the soldiers. They're the pawns in the whole process. It's important to remember their humanity, so thanks Dave for giving us a way to do this.

Posted by: Nikki at September 5, 2006 12:27 AM

We’ve got the troops’ and your back on this one, Dave. I’d just like to say that although I have been against the War in Iraq since its inception, I have never been anything but supportive of the men and women who risk their lives in such operations. I do not support President Bush or the political machinery behind the Iraq War. But I *do* support the troops. They’re over there in harm’s way doing what is required of them by the occupation they have chosen. They have to go where they’re sent. A lot of them have been kept over there far beyond what would be considered a regular tour of duty. They’re in a country that doesn’t really want them and is skirting the edge of civil war. Thousands of people have died and tens of thousands more have come back with life-altering injuries or far-reaching psychological damage. Not to mention all the civilian deaths, trauma and turmoil in Iraq. So don’t expect me to send President Bush or his shadow cabinet any bouquets of roses, but I can certainly send a message for the troops.

Dave,

As a service member currently serving in Afghanistan I just want to say a big THANK-YOU for even the small effort of a "shout out". The heros back in the Hospitals in Germany and the States deserve it.

I have to admit, that between the conversation with the Survivor on the plane and this post, your blog is really surprising me. Keep the Rock going.

Posted by: Redleg at September 5, 2006 01:13 AM

Dave,
F'n right! The Troops are the shizznit and I am going to write them a letter. My cousin Daniel is over in afghanistan right now in the air force and will remain there for the next 6 months. Those people are doing so much for us right now and I love them all for what they do! [I love you too dave for all you do ;)]It would be so nice if each and every one of us sent a letter/thank you. Even if you dont agree with the war it is not about the war it is about the people. They are just like us. MUCH LOVE TO EVERYONE!

Dave, I think what you are doing for the troops is simply amazing. I have been a fan for a long time and the way that you give of yourself so much truly shows why you have the most loyal fan base in the world. I sent my message in for the troops as I hope all your listeners and fans have done. Thank you so much for what you are doing and what you do everyday!

Wow- two days in a row you've blown me away with your post. Thank you!
I've been sending out boxes, cards, etc. to servicemen and women for the past 2 years - check out Anysoldier.com. I hate this war, I loathe this administration, but I support those that have put themselves in harms way for others.

Hi gorgeous, how are you doing?
I missed srl again cos we're 8hrs ahead of pst. off to listen to the re-run. you're such a sweetheart, hope the troups get lots of post they deserve it.
Been reading "don't try this at home", going to end up writing a whole entry on that on my own myspace blog i think (address below). but just incase your sexy intelligent eyes skim over this - it's important to say it's a great tangible slice of rock history. the concept is brilliant - the photo booth is wicked and yet the content is hard to read in places because it's so raw.
I always want to help when someone is in pain - fuck the crap about guilt or ego, it's human to want to rescue and our inbuilt morality as warm hearted beings means it's not so simple or easy to watch someone self destruct - bollocks to the individuals' right to choose, that only works in theory. when it's reality staring you in the face i defy you to not want to help or to act even if that means saving someone from themself, someone who doesn't want to be saved. I would love to argue with you about that but am delighted that you're clean now. And the other thing - wanted to tell you that you look so healthy, sexy and gorgeous on the couch on RS SN every week - as compared to Tommy who does tend to look like he's rocked up from a late party most weeks.
Lastly it's difficult to work out the dates with the RHCP stuff, the book is copyrighted 2004, your comments added in to the dialogue are quoted as June 1st 2000 and the dialogue itself you say is 2 years earlier, one hot minute is 1995 and me? I'm confused. Not that time is important in some cases, i was just trying to understand which year the book documented.
imho - The great difficulty with intelligent minds or artistic intelligence anyway, is that it bores easily and part of the nature of that intelligence is to explore life in creative ways and sometimes that's where it runs into problems. I guess as we evolve / grow older we see our place in the world in a less destructive way and that energy becomes healthier.
Sorry for long post, but thanks too.
silky .x.x.x.

Though I wish there wasn't a need to send messages to our troops, it was an absolute pleasure to take the time to do so. I clicked over to read comments from earlier and saw you had posted again. I'm so glad I did. Thank you for sharing the email with all of us, Dave. That's twice in the last 7 hours or so that I was really thankful to have become a (usually quiet) member of this community you have created here. That and ONe still gives me tingles! You're fantastic!

Posted by: Cat at September 5, 2006 02:48 AM

Already sent a email last night during SRL Dave! Hope you were able to find some soup!

I was against this war from day one also and but seeing how this is our generations "Vietnam" I never want to see our men and women who are serving treated the same way Soldiers were treated during that time. Too be honest it's not the troops fault their "Boss" is an asshole. It's not my fault either, I didn't vote for him. But the ones coming home in boxes in my parts of the woods are so young. They have seen the horrors the world has to offer but have barely "lived".

I hope at the next Presidental election in 2008 I see as much fire and brimestone, salt and vinegar towards the election and it's candidates as some have shown here in comments over a fucking reality television show.
If your not already....register to VOTE. It's the one freedom most Americans take for granted.
Ok I'm done on my soapbox. :-)

As someone who has been recently deployed and still has a few years left in the Air National Guard...this is very good of you Dave. It is amazing what care packages or even just emails will do for the spirit. Thank you.

~katie

And just to clarify...I did NOT vote for Mr George W Bush. Not everyone in the military supports him. But as he is in my military chain of command - I can't really protest the same way that a civilian would be allowed to. Well, I suppose I could but I don't feel like spending time in a military prison somewhere in Texas. Anyone, my point is...I hope that everyone exercises their free speech rights. Because I truly think that it IS a right but also a responsiblity that we have - it is the only way to change things for the better.

Good on ya, Dave!...for rallying to support our troops and for sharing your enlightening moment with us. To echo the sentiments of other bloggers here, it truly is a wonderful thing to be able to connect with people on all sorts of levels...especially with those who remind us that whatever travesties we're experiencing can not be compared to the challenges others have had (and are still struggling)to overcome. Stories, such as you've shared, remind me that I am incredibly fortunate to BE and live where I live. Thanks, Dave. much love to ya,

We just found out my bestfriend's stepson is leaving in Feb '07 to go back to Iraq, he is worried he won't return this time. We have been told to write often, to send pics and anything else we can think of to help keep his spirits up. We have also organised a letter writing campaign for the local grade school. Chuck told us how much the guys love that stuff. He said it always makes them feel better about being away from home.

Everyone please check out this site (http://www.torchesacrossamerica.com/index-original.html?) and remember why we went over there in the first place...or at least what propted the thought. And can someone please explain to me why we can find a man hiding in a whole in the ground but cant fine one hididng in a cave?

You are doing a truly inspiring thing, Dave. Thanks for that.

I have a friend who was scheduled to be deployed back to Iraq for another 9 months. Knowing how he feels about receiving letters and e-mails, and how it lifts his spirits when he's away, I can only say how wonderful a thing it is that you're doing with this collective e-mail.

You're pro-active support of the troops and the way you're giving back is truly inspiring. Rock on.
