Making It Work For KHZ

So as I said on Spread Radio Live the other night, KHZ's Raiana came into town and I took her and her friend to dinner. Raiana is of course, the lead singer of KHZ, SRL's Indie Artist of the Month winner as a result of the listener vote! She also happens to be our Official Spread Radio Live girl. We got swarmed by paparazzi cameras after dinner and they made this assumption. Seldom do I like to respond to tabloid journalism, but in this case, I can use their mistakes as an opportunity to promote both Spread Radio Live and an awesome band like KHZ. Check out the KHZ site or their MySpace Page. If you can't make the tabloids work with you, you may as well make them work for you.

Hmmmmmm....assumptions.... May I use one of my favorite quotes of yours Dave?

Those people can SUCK IT!!!!!

:O)CE

Posted by: ChristineE at September 11, 2006 11:56 AM

I don't know how you do it. Man, can a man just go get a bite to eat with a friend? Hey, at least you're making the best of it. Thanks for putting Storm on SRL. Really liked that. She rocks and what a lady. And I have to say, smart move on Supernova's part, having Panic Channel and the House Band (with Storm Large) going with! Great idea...make it a fucking party. Can't make that one, but hey, there's hope of seeing you on that smaller tour. I'm looking for a stop in Albuquerque maybe. Keep doing what you do and doing it so good.

Posted by: Miss S at September 11, 2006 11:56 AM

Have a great day anyway!!

Yeah, I saw this already today. I figured it was going to be Rianna because you had mentioned it in advance. Boy, with those tabloids you just can't do anything, can you? An innocent dinner with a collegue and you are moving on again with another hot new chick. What a crock!

Posted by: Tracy T at September 11, 2006 12:09 PM

I'm hoping your in talks with KHZ to open up for TPC on the Fall tour. That would be killer!

Posted by: Lolita at September 11, 2006 12:11 PM

Im w/ Lolita...having KHZ open for your club tour would be fuckin awesome!! Im dying to see them live, but it seems they only play on the East Coast. Also love the free publicity (as you put it)...maybe this will get KHZ some much needed national attention. Hopefully, they will splash this "news" on all the entertainment shows during prime time! HA! You guys should hit the town again tonight...give these people a show!!

Have a great day Dave and Fam,
Love, Amber :)

PS. Any Storm Large fans....she's gonna be on Ellen this afternoon.

That's so frightenning. You sit in a car with someone. It goes on the internet. A new Rumour starts. Does it happen everytime or only with good looking women? I mean do they tape someone walking down the street with their mothers as well. It's just that it doesn't go on the site..

Posted by: Glutterbug at September 11, 2006 12:20 PM

You know something, I really hate the media. I think the way they go after celebrities is wrong. I mean, I understand the fascination with celebrity and wanting to know what's going on in your favorite actor/singer/whatever's lives, but the media takes it way too far.

One example: I am not a fan of nick and/or jessica simpson, but I feel sorry for them. I mean, from the day they got married there were rumors about them splitting up or fighting or whatever. I mean, that's so much pressure to put on people. They never had a chance to make it because everyone was just salivating to get the 'scoop' when they broke up. It's just wrong. And those people should be ashamed of themselves. It really does make me mad. I don't understand why they make it so impossible for celebrities to keep part of their lives private. It's really stupid.

Posted by: Leah at September 11, 2006 12:22 PM

Nice job on spinning the gossip Dave. I've heard Raiana on your show and with the two Khz SRL's, and she seems so sweet. Who better to start a rumor with than ur own Spokeshottie??

I agree with the above posts, and I've said it before, KHZ and TPC are a great combo. Please come to NY and play together!!

Posted by: Kate at September 11, 2006 12:26 PM

Ah, Dave. I wish the vultures would leave you and other public figures alone. All I can do, for my part, is be absolutely scrupulous in minding my own beeswax when it comes to the parts of people’s private lives that they want and deserve to *keep* private. Scandal rags won’t make a dime off me. You’re such a stand-up guy. Thanks for taking this media tripe and making it into something beautiful and useful, as you always do. I’ve already put KHZ on my friends' list and oh, yes, I *will* get my hands on their terrific album, one way or another. :-) I don’t shop online or use credit cards (yeah, I know, techno dinosaur, that’s me LOL), but I’ll work something out and get my copy of “Reality On A Finer Scale. :-) Thank you for being such a great champion for Indie artists and new voices in music—through both “RS:SN and avenues like your “Indie Artist of the Month contest. You continue to be an inspiration and positive, uplifting force in this world, guy. :-)

Wow. What compelling journalism...you getting in a car. Next week- Dave eating Cornflakes.

Saw the CD USA thing, good stuff. In it they had a spot on the RHCP's and mentioned that they are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

If they make it, does that mean that you and Jack Irons are in "it" too? (No disrespect to South Dakota Railroad, eligible in 2011).

Posted by: Schwing at September 11, 2006 12:52 PM

Ha ha, too fucking funny. I gotta say thanks for the hookup on KHZ though, the new cd of theirs really kicks ass.

Dave...if you would just take up with an old fat chick like me, those rumors wouldn't start! lol Hubby and I are talking about seeing the tour only to see Panic Channel and the House Band with Storm. Don't care about Super Nova...guess it's the Tommyhawk ego. *shrug*

As I said before...who gives a flying rats furry bumhole what you do or say.... I can't believe these predators - anything to sell themselves and get their 15 seconds of fame.

I always feel for public persona's who have their personal lives splashed across headlines. With any split in a relationship, people are hurting and it must be even more distressing to see your pain turned into something that the great unwashed can fawn over, disect and gossip about in detail. It disgusts me and I feel ashamed to be part of the human race at times like that. We are like pack animals gnawing on carrion and fighting for the best piece.

I do not support this stuff - I do not buy the magazines, do not watch the 'entertainment' gossip channels and do not look for it on the web.

Whatever the outcome is for you and Carmen, Dave, I hope that is as painless as it possibly can be.

2nd request for TPC to do a show in Albuquerque New Mexico.Peace

Posted by: C at September 11, 2006 01:53 PM

Now I want to drag out my soapbox and have a rant.

Im angry and Ive been stewing on this all weekend. Yes, Im on the Supernova kick again. Im pissed off for 2 reasons.

The first is that it 'appears' to me that the lads have absolutely no intention of letting a chick front this band, despite all the lip service from them throughout the weeks. But that could all be spin (refer to post above)....does that make me one of the pack animals???? But I digress....

The second reason Im pissed off is that all indications point to Lukas being chosen. What the fuck is the attraction there - I just don't get it!

Maybe its my generation, but to me he is nothing special. He just comes across to me as an arrogant litte shite with too much makeup and trying way to hard to make a 'statement' No matter how cool he or anyone else thinks he is, to me just looks like a tryhard knobhead. His music is just okay....but there are a shitload better bands out there.

But what really fucks me off the most is the screaming legion of pre-pubscent girlies he seems to have aquired. These guys (SN) have serious rock cred and history and they are going to put a teen idol up front??? When did rock sell its soul to mainstream society and the teen market? It makes me want to cry tears of blood over my Iron Butterfly album.

Okay, so I might be an old tart but I still like to buy a ticket to a fuck-off good rock concert and get in there with the young 'uns and tear up the dance floor. I still buy albums - but they have got to be good, for me to buy them. Its got to make me want to start move or sing (very badly in both respects). I buy music to add to my collection, not because its the latest fad. I do not buy music to discard 6 months later when its no longer in the charts.

Yep, I know that its another 'Burnett special money for jam' excursion in pursuit of the almighty dollar and I would expect nothing less from him, but Clark, Lee & Newstead - I thought they were better than that. I thought they were serious about their art. What is the world coming to?

I could be doing a premature rant here and rock angels might trill hallelujah from on high and they choose the chick, but somehow I doubt it. I would love to be proved wrong on this occassion - and if I am, you can kick me in the arse and call me shorty, but Im pretty sure my glutes will be safe on this occassion.

*****End Rant****Put soapbox back in dark corner***

PS: Tell Dilana to sing Zepplins 'Black Dog' for her elimination song - god, how I would love to see her do that song!!!

Got to see the Storm appearance on Ellen.

*sigh*

I want to have her babies.

I definitely think her departure was calculated and frankly brilliant. She's a star, yo!

Posted by: justin at September 11, 2006 02:06 PM

I was thinking...we should put the paparazzi on Bin Laden's and the terrorists' asses. Let the papparazzi do something productive for once. Who cares who's fucking who...We should care more about who's killing who! My heart aches for all those lives lost and for all the lives almost lost and for the people they love, from what happened five years ago today...and continues to.

Posted by: Miss S at September 11, 2006 02:18 PM

Dave, I read your site all the time and never post, but I had to laugh at this one. The paparazzi sucks!! I listened to SRL for the first time the night Storm was on and enjoyed the show. I'll be a regular now.

Anyway, check out the Pozo Saloon for a possible venue for TPC. It's a super cool place on the Central Coast of CA. Lots of great bands have played there - it would be way cool to see you guys there. Lots of rockers around here. I love ONe - can't stop listening.

Peace!

Kiwi
" I still buy albums "

where??? new albums??? everyting here is CD's and shit do I miss album cover art!

I even concocted a cover for Storm and the Ballz.. but I digress

Dave.. I wonder if the forfathers ever thought we would need the second amendment just for the press.. sheesh. you probably can't even take a dump without the press right between your cheeks these days.

So, any chance you might get Storm back on spreadradiolive? even without video.. there's something special happening when the two of you interact.

Posted by: Opal at September 11, 2006 02:35 PM

You seemed to have handled that well. Stay Gold, Ponyboy!!

Posted by: Bonita at September 11, 2006 02:35 PM

Stop the presses! Dave goes out to dinner with a friend! And not just any friend ... a hot FEMALE friend!

Because we apparently have nothing better to focus on in the world than two people getting dinner.

You should go out to dinner with Todd one night and hold his hand. That'll get people talking, and you'd at least get a laugh out of it.

Posted by: Kristen at September 11, 2006 02:38 PM

Perhaps a re-write is in order....

Rock legend Dave Navarro hit the town last night with SRL vixen Raiana the lead singer of KHZ. As they head home soft gentle music wafted gently over the pair. Whilst looking slightly pissed at the unwelcome attention from a crowd of papping flash bulbs Dave turns to his visiting mate - "What is that sound? Did you bring that disc?" He asks in musical confusion.
"Nah darling," Raiana replies dryly, "It is the sound of TMZ cocking up again."

Posted by: Silky at September 11, 2006 02:45 PM

Weird! I actually saw you at dinner last night. I was on my way to the restroom and got a pretty big shock when I saw you sitting in the back with your friends. I had just checked 6767 for an update before I left, which is why I was so surprised. Storm and Jim McGorman were at the restaurant I work at the day before. I am being stalked by everything RS:SN!

Those paparazzi are sneaky bastards. I never even noticed them outside.

Posted by: Super Arturo at September 11, 2006 03:05 PM

Haha! You know what's weird? It's like I'd almost forgotten you were a "star" until I just watched that clip. Seeing the paparazzi made me think, 'Oh yeah! He's famous!' It's just 'cause you allow us to stalk you online.

Hey, and at least all your alleged girlfriends are hot!

Opal - "where??? new albums??? everyting here is CD's and shit do I miss album cover art!"

Im hearin' ya! Sorry, its my generation - I still refer to them as albums. I still do buy vinyl occassionally, but its from second hand stores. You have to ferret about alot, but you can still find treasure.

There are some record stores here that deal in nothing but new vinyl - there has been a number of bands release stuff on vinyl lately, but again you have to sniff out the good stuff.

I buy CDs now. All my precious vinyl is safely stored away in protective plastic covers. I still break out the turntable every now and then and listen to my lovelies, complete with hisses, crackles et all. But Im ever mindful that these are irreplacable now and look for them on CD (until I can work out how to transfer my vinyl onto my computer).

Oops, sorry - didnt mean to hijack the thread. Carry on folks....

I am your biggest fan. Here is a poem that I write for you today:

Hold me, my Dark Knight
Under cover of darkness
May you take me into your arms
Bid you, play me - use your tremelo bar
Oh, for I am your instrument of love

Love me my Dark Knight
Dare to let me worship your tattoos
They are are like a bible...
Satanic verses!

Quench my loins
Undo my bodice
I shall let you
Do whatever thou will

I wondered if something happened since we didn't hear much from you Dave over the weekend. What ever happened with your server Friday night?

That video would have been much more interesting if you had taken Raiana to Disneyland to ride the teacups. She looks so vicious in photos, but sounds so sweet on the phone. Good or bad press, the exposure she and KHZ has gotten thanks to you and the SRL listeners has been a great opportunity. And how could being seen with you be bad press for her, but she does look very uncomfortable in the video. Why doesn't the paparazzi check out your website for the straight from the horse's mouth truth like we do? Granted, you have been very flirty at times with both Raiana and Storm on SRL. ;)

I can see why a lot of celebrities live here in New Mexico. I've never seen the likes of a paparazzi here. My best friend sits a table away from Gene Hackman every day at lunch. The new movie "Beerfest" was filmed down the street from my house. There's a lot of respect here and many of the celebrities that reside here give back to the community, especially Val Kilmer, who's on the NM Film Commission Board. Santa Fe has been called the New Hollywood for a couple years now (minus the smog and paparazzi!). 300 days of sunshine, simple permits, and a 25% tax rebate for film productions. In fact, I was just notified that The Hollywood Reporter is publishing a special issue on 9/20/06 about New Mexico's booming film industry and the new Albuquerque Studios. Woohoo.

Judging by his past badmouthing of this site, Dave Navarro isn't going to like the following piece of information ONE BIT. Despite Dave's protestations, readers of this site already KNOW who the winner of Rockstar Supernova will be. We have another tidbit of incriminating evidence to reveal: Promotional photos have ALREADY BEEN TAKEN of the winner with his new band! Major gigs for the band are in the works - including what will be a highly publicized New Years Eve show. New readers might be advised to click here and visit the original item that started what we hear is a firestorm at CBS.

Hey Dave,

I just wanted to say "Hi". My wife and I saw you today outside of the liquor store when you were getting change for the parking meter. We were standing on the corner talking to my parents on my cell phone. My wife is going to have a baby in less than a month and we had just left a doctor’s appointment across the street. We wanted to say hello, but we didn’t want to bother you.

SUPPLY AND DEMAND.
Dave Navarro is driven to create music, and is damn good at it.
His instrument of choice is the guitar, and he is widely acknowledged as a very fine player.
He is also easy on the eye and has many female fans within his support base. All of the above creates a "supply" of talent and a body of work that we who admire him wish to purchase and enjoy.
All of the above is a healthy transaction that is both business and pleasure and is mutually rewarding. It is hard to find anything negative within that symbiotic relationship, as I'm sure we all agree that music is a powerful and necessary force in our lives.
Having said all of this, there are SCUMBAG BLOODSUCKERS WHO ARE MAKING A LIVING FROM THE TALENTS OF PEOPLE LIKE DAVE NAVARRO, merely because he is a celebrity and an easy target.
Personally, I don't give one feeble shit where Dave sleeps and who with... as long as he keeps the riff train rollin' and seems to be as cool as he seems to be. See? No DEMAND from ME for the putrid SUPPLY being offered up by these VULTURES.
If we all followed suit, and took just a little less interest in the personal lives of the famous people who inspire us, maybe these bastards would have to go and find real jobs.
Amen.

Dave,

I just don't know how you do it with all the media but I know it is part of the business. I am really impressed by the way you handle it. I agree with the posts that asked if you were with some chick who maybe wasn't awesome looking but very average would you show up in the news? Somehow, I doubt it. I am looking forward to tomorrow night's show and seeing the band. Enjoy your day! Who will be your next rebound date? Will it be Storm Large? I am surprised that the media has not come up with that one because of the chemistry that you and Storm seem to have.

Take care!

OH GREAT DARK ONE...I just love tabloids..they serve a great purpose...to make me laugh while I'm standing in line at the grocery check out!!

O'Dark ONe, I'll tell you what I told my foster son when he was 18...find a girl that can cook, do laundry and walk in high heels...everything else will fall into place..and that's what he did...he's in his 5th year of being happily married! (ok..so Mai-Lyn is also really pretty..not the point) Just don't be shallow! There is something REALLY unattractive about a shallow man...

I's all where you live Dave. Come to Fargo, ND. Few peeps would know who you are and the ones that do would look the other way and try not to stare. Midwest people have MANNERS. I and my friends have sat in plenty of restaurants after a big concert and seen soooooooooo many rockers
with the radio station guys, and we're too polite to ask for an autograph. And OMG don't look too much lol. Just the way we are raised.
Peace and quiet and to tell the truth, boring at times, but people mind their own beeswax and have the courtesy not to invade somebody's space, no matter who they are. I know Ozzy was somewhat dissapointed here once because he felt ignored, lmao.

There is something about you that intrigues me....You're what a call a Pure Class Act....I do appreciate your feel for America and what happened 5 yrs ago..thank you for showing that you have a human and delicate side. I admire that. Always

Ok, nothing here on Dave (except he is balanced karma) nor SN but a really neat site to test your brain age...see if you are younger or older. http://www.mybraintrainer.com
Would be interesting to see how Dave does (knowing guitar playing has some awesome brain pathway items involved)

Hey Dave!

So I finally ordering TPC CD, and I can't WAIT for it to get here! I would love to see you guys on tour, but unfortunatly you guys don't come to shithole dead end towns in northern BC Canada.... ugh this town blows. Maybe I'll try and catch you guys in Vancouver if you go....closest place to me...sadly I'm only a teenager and that requires me having to find someone to stay with in Van.....anyways...can't wait for the cd!!:D

That rumour stuff about you is kinda funny, I love reading that stuff, especially when it is not true, it amuses the hell out of me the rumour that are made up..... fuckin media.

So I can't believe RSSN is over this week...that really sucks, I got so attached to it this summer, damn you MBP and you're reality shows! I really hope Lukas is able to front this band, but my favorites on these shows NEVER win! So I'm just HOPING that he does. I would like them if Toby won, but probably not if Dilana or Magni did, they're just not what I'm interested in, but I'm sure they'll be successful. However this turns out I'm sure the 4 of them will have good careers ahead of them, like you said to Luke man 'the fact that I don't know of you already is why a show like this is so important'...you remember that? Week 1 with Rebel Yell. Thank god for this show or would've never discovered his talent. But yes anyways...I'm just rambling on. I just like commenting because I think you read these and I like how 'connected' you are with your fans, more celebs should do that, makes me love you more!

Anyways, hope all is well, keep kickin ass.

One thing I just relized, looking back and rewatching all the supernova webisodes, it seems that Lukas has been completely focused the entire time.

You can tell he isn't there to just have a good time, he seems so serious about this, I think he really relizes how important this is, how serious this band is. Not that hes a party pooper or anything, he just relizes this is not just a prize to win, this is real job.

Posted by: Charli at September 11, 2006 08:48 PM

Hey Dave

So glad to see you've come around to the Toby Rand Wagon the past few weeks. Toby is not only super talented, but he has everything SuperNova is looking for in a singer. He is in many people's opinion, the real 'dark horse', who has kicked it into gear and done everything to prove himself the front man for this particular band.

But above all, he just fits in with SN perfectly, and their style of music. They obviously realize that. Once I heard him sing with them and have since heard some of their other new songs, I realized that clinches it. TLee is mentioned in the recent Rolling Stone, as saying that SN is going to be a 'retro-anthem' style band. That is very unlike the emos on the Warped Tour, of course.

I hope that you enjoy your tour with all of them and I look forward to the spectacular show it's going to be. Toby has already shown he's perfect for the Arena-style concerts SN wants to have, with the high energy crowd. I just know you're gonna love chillin' with super cool Toby.

Good Luck Dave!

Get those votes in for our frontman Toby, people!

Posted by: ritzroks at September 11, 2006 08:56 PM

Hi Dave,

FIrst of all, Love ya, love your comments on Rockstar Supernova and all. I was reading one of your posts and you mentioned that one of the supernova shows is on sunday (tuesday) so, does this mean that the show we see on tuesday night is really a taped show? I am curious because of the voting system, and because they show who's on the final three with the first votes. Am i crazy?

ANyway, I'm rooting for Dilana, I know she's got some issues, but who's perfect? Defects aside, I think she is amazingly talented singer. If she doesn't get the job, then I would like Toby to win. Anyway, looking forward to last shows.

Peace.

Posted by: Tóti at September 12, 2006 02:23 AM

To SN, let them all go and keep Butch. For the rawkers:

I can see how some might not mind being called a ho, but I'm not one of 'em.

Hey ho Hey ho Hey ho ho ho.. seems it takes this boy awhile to get even ho's attentions huh, who would have thought?

One of you future band mates should've taught him some of the current vernacular, before he made a faux pas like this.(I'm pretty sure at least TL knew what ho means)

Dilana Dilana Dilana, we all know how much you need SN but I'm afraid they really do not need you, too bad, so sad. Before I forget, wash your fucking hair woman!

Magni, I hope your soulmate's relationship with Dilana won't cause you any problems at home. Just warning you, when my mate came home and told me he had a new soulmate, I tossed him out on his ass.

Lukas, stop sucking the mic so we can understand your words and if your parents haven't called by now, you don't want them to. Just sayin'.

Hey Dave.
You ever think about putting up selected mp3's of unknown artists at your site here?
There's this place called http://zed.cbc.ca up here in Canuckistan that does this, although they accept anything and everything, in some cases...unfortunately, but do you think this would be a project you could get your teeth into?

Posted by: Dave at September 12, 2006 06:29 AM

I think we live in a society where scandal sells, so if the media needs to invent a story to sell a magazine, they go it. Trust really has no basis here and, personally, I don't buy magazines other than the couple I get solely for news purposes (vs. gossip and celebrity news). Just not my thing.

I do think being a celebrity comes with a price - - for me, the price has always been too high so, you have to be tough not to let the rags invade your privacy or, better yet, keep a stable life/relationship despite them.

Peace! Abby

Riana has a beautiful voice and with all that powerful music behind it, it gives me chills to listen to them. BTW: TPC still rules!!! I wish Supernova would pick Dilana and produce music like KHZ.

LOL, I can see that you have not updated or commented on the posts...Just spill the beans, man. I know that you want to say something... common now, say who the winner is. A lot of fans are panting and salivating for LUKAS ROSSI!

Posted by: Vanessa at September 12, 2006 07:59 AM

Dave,

Between the 9/11 anniversary and hearing about how the tabloids hound you, I was so upset last night I sat there cutting into my arm for three hours.

Then I wrote you another poem:

Sadness fills me
Hour after hour
Over my head...
Over my head...
Tears flowing down my face
Until there are no more
Pray for my Dark Knight to
Drive his H2 to my house
And steal me away...
Vescere bracis meis.
Exitus acta probat

For all the Lukas lovers, I recommend that you try to listen to his stuff from Cleavage and Rise Electric online. They're just awesome, and he sounds really, really good on them. He has a unique, memorable and textured voice, in my opinion. I have to agree with Dave that Rock Star the show is important because it gives exposure to previously unheard of great musicians. When I listened to the songs, I was going, why haven't I heard of Lukas and these bands before?

And Lukas is just so pretty. He also has a nice smile. There's something about him I just find so sexy. I've always liked his look, but his eyes while performing "Headspin" were the sexiest most passionate eyes. There is a LOT going on behind them. Now I can't stop thinking about him.

Posted by: Where Else at September 12, 2006 08:43 AM

I think Toby is more suited to SN, but SN with Lukas will be more successful and I think that's what it comes down to.

However, I am not convinced that Lukas with SN will be more successful than Lukas without.

I think he is the worst singer I ever hard in my life, my dog runs under the table when he sings. My family and I are embarrassed for him when he sings there is a reason he works at hooters and toby moonlights as a carpenter, and there are reasons why dilana released 5 hit singles in europe....
