Still in Toronto

Good morning from Toronto. We have another full day of press then we fly home to LA where I will actually have an entire day off to myself. I will more than likely do another Spread Radio Live show from my house tomorrow. As for the conspiracy theories on Rockstar, I find them very amusing and entertaining, but I can assure you that no such devices have been embedded in the show. There is so much work that goes into doing just one show with rehearsals, camera blocking, performances, song selection and all that there isn't even time to consider injecting a conspiracy. Frankly, we went through all this last season. I remember how pissed off so many people were because they were convinced that it was all rigged so that Mig would win. Like, people got really angry at me, the show and all of our producers. In fact, I even got hate mail and flamed over it quite a bit. So to those who are suggesting the same types of ideas this season, all I can say is... Settle down. This is all as real as it gets. I have no idea who is going to take this thing and I don't want to know. I enjoy finding out who is going home along with the live audience in the studio from week to week. On Sunday, I am going to try to say something about Dilana owning up to her mistakes before the performances, much like I posted here yesterday. As for her "range"... A lot of people are on me because they feel she has no range. I totally disagree, but even still, I can't help think about Lou Reed's range or even Mick Jagger's. Not a whole lot of range going on there either, however, Mick is arguably one of rock's most compelling front men. I, like you, have only heard two Supernova songs and it is hard for me to know exactly what it is they require vocally, but I do know that on the songs they have done, Dilana did very well vocally with hers and Toby killed it on his. I am personally looking forward to hearing Ryan and Lukas on a Supernova track. I was wrong last week about song selection. THIS is the week that they are doing songs selected by the online community votes. Perhaps we will find ourselves with better song choices and more enlightening performances as a result. At this point, all the remaining contestants are pretty strong and I have no idea who might go. My best guess would be either Toby or Storm, but only because I don't see them in the top three at any time soon unless they really pull off something special this week. The bottom three this week will be half of the cast no matter what. It is really heating up! I know that we keep asking for that incredible moment during a performance. Know that we don't expect a singer to be doing backflips throughout a show, we just want to know that the ability to pull it out when necessary is in them. As much as I would love to sit here and continue typing for another 20 minutes about stuff, I have to jump in the shower as Steve and I are going to do some acoustic stuff on Canadian morning TV and some radio on XM, followed by an interview at The Edge in Toronto. Traffic, The Panic Channel, weather, tips on making that holiday table center piece for a fraction of the cost and the latest breaking Canadian news.

Thanks for all you do Dave!
Hey, did you see Zayra on The Soup on "E"? Joel McHale was pretty funny with her.
Thanks for a great show and my son just bought your new CD, and we all really enjoy it!

I can't help but notice that you name every contestant in your post except Magni. You rarely mention him at all. Even after his stellar performance on the last elimination show.

I just find this a bit funny, that's all.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU DAVE I CANT WAIT TO HEAR WHAT RYAN AND LUCUS DO WITH THE SUPERNOVA TRACK! MY PERSONAL FAVORITE IS RYAN!!! I JUST FIND HIS TALLENT TOTALY UNIQUE!!!!

Dave, with all the traveling you're doing for PC, and early morning website updates, are you partaking of that wonderful coffee they leave you in your hotel room, or do you order it in, or do you just suck it up and wait until Starbucks opens? (I travel and can't stand the hotel room coffee, but will drink it as a necessary evil if need be).

Yeah people there are no conspiracy theories this year.Although INXS admitted they pegged JD somewhere in the middle of last season. But this year SN has NO idea just clueless really.

HaHa!Dave you too funny.

Hi Dave.
I really enjoy reading this blog, thanks for letting us.
I watch Rockstar Supernova every week and I´ve been reading your comments on the rockers but I would really like to see your take on Magni:-)
Best regards.

Posted by: Sandra at August 25, 2006 05:36 AM

I really enjoy reading your comments and originally I was ready to stop watching the show till I stumbled across your website. When you speak it is as if I am speaking with a colleague.
Hope all works out for you. Great update. I still want to know who will be riding Lukas or Ryan B#*tch on their hog?

Posted by: 2BCRAZY at August 25, 2006 05:39 AM

Hi Dave.... I have never written to one of these things before... but I do have to tell you that I think it sucks that our song selections for the voting were all ones that have been done before! Where is the choice in that?

I just have to tell you that I think it is great that you keep in touch with all your fans like this!

Dave,

Just curious..if range doesnt matter, why are the rest of the contestants always being told to change it up, change up their voice and do something different? Just wondering...seems the critiqes are not consistent from one contestant to another...should be across the board, if thats the case...

HAVE A GREAT DAY OFF!!! xxx

Posted by: silky at August 25, 2006 05:48 AM

Thanks for clarifying things Dave.

I have a question though in regards to Dilana owning up to what she did, when are Ryan and Lukas going to be publically called out and chastised for their on-camera insults to their peers and given a chance to apologize as well?

Until we see that, people will continue to think that Dilana's treatment was way out of proportion.

Thanks again for this blog.

Posted by: Fiona HV at August 25, 2006 05:50 AM

I agree with you Dave on who will make it to the end, I really hope in the end it will be between Lukas and Dilana, because they are incredible performers all around. However, Magni is creeping up I think, there is something about him that makes me want to see more from him. Hope your enjoying my home country of Canada, and I think your an amazing and gorgeous performer yourself, hope we get to see some more of that this season!

P.S. Go Lukas!

Hey Dave, at least things have been interesting with all this Dilana kerfuffle. What with the dull song selections and all, things were getting a tiny bit tiresome around the old mansion. Not now though.

I really hope they go with the 'wild card' song choices from the online poll though, cos having to sit through more repeats of the same artist doing the same songs might lead me to do something drastic. Something like watching 7th Heaven. ::shudders::

Save me, Dave!

Posted by: Sonia at August 25, 2006 06:04 AM

Again you are right Dave. We can very easily get caught up in the hoopla etc. of an extreme topic. Eventually you just have to let it go. It is amusing to read about them, especially if you have an insight to the business. "That's entertainment!"
Here in the great white north we prefer to venture out to Tim's (Tim Hortons) for our coffee. Well ok not everyone but, they do make the best...now for the weather...it sucks lets get to The Panic Channel!

Posted by: B at August 25, 2006 06:04 AM

Hi Dave!

Okay, so the selections will be getting tougher as to who will go home. Maybe it will be Storm - liking Toby and want to keep him around!

Here is a non-SN question, have you ever had your nipple rings yanked out?

Always,
me

People,
If you want to see how easy it is too insert your foot into your mouth you need to read what Mayor Ray NAgin said about New Orleans and how he compared it to New York's 9/11 attack. This one is completely unforgivable....

Posted by: 2BCRAZY at August 25, 2006 06:18 AM

Dave ~ I completely agree that people need to drop the whole Dilana thing. I think she's a great performer and I love watching her ... did I think that she screwed up royally at the press clinic? Absolutely! But, for all of these people completely bashing her for it, all I have to say is are you all perfect? We're not in their shoes and so we should stop pretending like we know what it's like. Everybody fucks up and we need to just move past it.

Posted by: Christina at August 25, 2006 06:20 AM

Dave, thanks for your clarity. Still lovin' ONe, "Listen" is such a cool track that just speaks to me.

South of disorder, FYI it's "eh", not "ay", and Toronto (also known as T.O. or Tdot) is in the Eastern time zone, same as NYC. I'm trying to get around my firewall to listen to the stream at work, but if I'm not successful I'm going to head home & listen on the dish - Bell has it on channel 955.

Posted by: NancyB at August 25, 2006 06:21 AM

You are right about Lukas. He is definitely amazing and an unbelievable performer. There is a definite excitement and anticipation whenever he sings. Do you know that he's got the largest fanbase? He has the Lukatics, Rossi Posse, Lukas Addicts, Lukasites that are avid fans. Bye the way, I just bought your album - love it!
How about you, Lukas and Tommy... now that would be a great & crazy band.

And believe it or not- we do have news! Toronto is the centre of the Universe after all! (And for all of you who will say that I spelled "centre" wrong, that's how we spell it in Canada!)

Posted by: arwen at August 25, 2006 06:27 AM

I think Dilana proved when she sang the Supernova song that she is not right for the band. Yes, she sounded great and the overall performance was amazing but something there didn't look/feel right. You can tell she wants to sing, but she didn't really look like she wanted to sing for Supernova. I can't wait to see how the chemistry is between Lukas & Supernova and Ryan & Supernova.

Posted by: Trina at August 25, 2006 06:29 AM

Looking forward to SRL . I heard a broadcast for the first time the other night and it was GREAT. That would be fantastic if you could shut down the Dilana stuff. She probably just screwed up. If she has some huge character flaw – like kicking people in the ass and then telling them she did it because she likes them – well, the members of SN are big boys and they can figure that out. Once Stormy and Toby are gone, it would be all about picking my poison if I were SN. The others are all good. But it could be a very long year.

morning :)

woke up to your smiling face on the front of our little free newspaper!

What's up with Much cutting off attendees if they are over 26? Us "mature" folks enjoy and appreciate good music and hawt men too! I didn't go but read that a few times in comments yesterday hehe

I'd throw JD's rendition of Pink Floyd's Money in the "special" category. It was just awesome but then again I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan <3

I'd love to see someone do something like that on this show.

have a nice day everyone

/cheers

Hey Dave, love you man and love your blog, but you really need that day off ;) Mick Jagger and Lou Reed have charisma and character; that is their range.

In one webisode, I think it was the 2nd week, Dilana was talking to Jenny and actually said that see needed this, this was her final shot. That girl is one needy and desperate chick.

The Supernova-guys need a real character to front them. Cannot wait to see Magni and Lukas rock with them.

Posted by: Maria at August 25, 2006 06:54 AM

I think talk of conspiracy theories is funny too. The show is set up so that the BAND picks the winner. If they wanted, they could protect Person X from the bottom 3 every single week. So why would there even be a need for a conspiracy???

Enjoy your day off!

Posted by: Michelle at August 25, 2006 06:55 AM

Hey Dave,
I think you're doing a great job on the show.
The "top 3" from this week, Dilana, Lucas, and
Ryan will probably be the top 3 from here on out
unless something crazy happens. For instance,
Dilana's Diva Meltdown. Wow. That could really
screw her over.
I got a chance to listen to much of the Panic
Channel's album...Steve Isaacs sure makes a
great Vjay. Maybe you should have called
Marty Casey, Jordis, or even Ty from last year's
Rockstar. Or maybe kiss and makeup with Perry.
Good luck with your new band, I love the sound,
I'm just not thrilled with the singing...which
is kind of odd considering you're hosting a show
that tries to find a singer for a band.
Anyway, thanks for doing such a great job on the
show, and for allowing us meatheads to post
commentary on your website. Later days.

Big fan of Jane's and TPC - but just picked up on 6767 during this summer's Rockstar. After spending 2.5 days [at work] catching up on your blog, I felt compelled to pass on my thanks and support. After college, I turned to Buddhism to find a balance in my life but kept getting stuck with my feelings about seeking pleasure and competition. I couldn't fit those two desires into the rest of the scheme. Where I'm at now is a spiritual level that means a lot to me but is difficult to explain to others. Then after reading your belief in a higher power without the rigidness of an organized religion, I felt even more at home. I'll wrap it up by commending you on the postive vibe you project at those seeking guidance for handling their addiction and your resistance to negatively gossip about others. Refreshing. Thanks dude.

Dave, I really do admire that "thick skin" of yours. No matter what you do, someone's going to be pissed about something and blame you for it simply because you're visible and accessible.

Of course you couldn't orchestrate even a fraction of the evil you're accused of (except I do still hold you responsible for world hunger).

Anyway, the more ridiculous conspiracy stuff I read, the more I'm impressed by the way you handle it. So just remember that there are many rational people out here in the real world who aren't even entertaining the thought that you're the puppet master behind all the ills in this world.

So Cheers! And keep on rockin' in the free world!

Hey Dave, first time commenting! How cool is it that you have a blog? I think that's pretty neat of you.

Can't wait to see Lukas perform with the band. I LOVED this week's song! Tons better than the the other one, and Toby killed it.

People seem to forget how green the kids are the the "rockstar" lifestyle. When you speak...everyone is listening even when you think they aren't. I think Amy Lee learned that the hard way too by talking smack about Cold. Not that I'm a huge fan of either band, but I'm off the subject.
Dave....ONe is amazing, I love it! Can't wait til you guys hit the road. I'm pelting my radio station with requests!

Hey Dave,
Great job with SN an Panic Channel. Man sounds like a hectic schedule with so much going on..multitasking to the max.

I have agreed with almost everything you have said on SN but I have a hard time figuring out the attraction towards Dilana. She is mediocre at best with little range and a performance that is not unique in any way. When she dissed the others she showed a side of her that is very harsh and calling her out was great and needed.
Going back and saying it's OK because she apologized is not going to make anyone but Dilana happy. She said what she said and rightly got what she deserved just leave it at that and see how she responds. To build her in a positive light after her comments will turn off a lot of people who believe the integrity of the couch was solidified by calling her out.

I hope they let Lukas do his lyrics to the track from the song clinic as they were killer. As Tommy said if you cannot remeber the lyrics after hearing the song, thats not good. I cannot remember the lyrics with Dilana but I keep finding myself singing the lyrics "follow me like shadows" all the time, they just won't leave.

Anyways Peace Bro and I'm looking forward to seeing you with Panic Channel once this SN is over

I love this sight and all, but the white script on a black background is KILLINg my eyes if I read here for too long. Ever thought of tweaking it to good ole' black on white, like Issac's page? Maybe just for the blogs and stuff. Anyhoo, It's been quite a summer and the Panic Channel album has been the perfect soundtrack for it!! Keep on kickin' ass, everyone!

Have fun in TO Dave!

Someone mentioned 'these kids' are green. First, Dilana is not a 'kid' and second..she is not 'green'. She has had experience and a career in music already. I'm sure she is very aware that you do not down others in the press, or otherwise. I know that if I ever did that in the press about people I work with...I would be gone the next day. It should be something Dilana should have known not to do...

Welcome to Tdot, Dave... sorry about all this rain. At least its not snow (hope you didn't bring your snowboard!).
I understand your comments on Dilana's range and likening her to Jagger... but I think he has greater range than her... or at least I could stand to listen to an entire Stones album or see them in concert for an hour and a half... Dilana's rasp grates on me! I'd like to see more performances from her along the lines of Every Breath You Take... almost no rasp... more enjoyable. Still hate her though.

Cheers!

I pegged JD during week 1 last season. I thought his arrangements of California Dreamin' and Hand In My Pocket during the first 2 weeks were incredible. He was so cocky in the beginning, and he learned from that mistake. I saw the INXS tour in Atlantic City, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen, including the shows I saw when Michael was still alive and with INXS. Don't forget, Pretty Vegas became the best selling INXS single ever, thanks to JD. The Switch CD shows just how versatile the man is vocally and as a writer, which is really the key. I mean, even on the PC CD, there is huge versatility with the vocals. The a capella track is proof of that.

I haven't seen anyone this season yet where I just thought "Now THAT is the one!" I still feel like Dilana's vocals are exceedingly limited, both in range and versatility. A whole CD of gravel would be boring beyond belief. Yep, Lou Reed and Mick Jagger have limited ranges too, but I wouldn't ever put Dilana in the same category as either of them. I still think the best performers left are Lukas, Ryan and Magni. Any one of them could handle the pressure and the music. If these rockers crack under the pressure of being isolated and nurtured, think of the trainwreck waiting when they're put under the public scrutiny of press junkets and tabloids. I'm glad Dilana apologized for some of her comments, but really, what else could she do. I know people think it was brave of her, but I don't see it that way. It would have been brave to say "Yeah, I meant every single word exactly as I said it."

I do know how hard a career in the entertainment industry is since that's how I've earned a living my entire adult life, and I'm now 40. I'm obviously not a rock star, but I've had my share of success in theatre etc. I was giving interviews at 22 and 23, and I knew better than to bite the hand that fed me even then. I'm just sayin', is all. Still, I appreciate your candor and your insights. I also appreciate the way you communicate with us, your fans. Thanks for that.

Dave- Hey Dude. I know I am totally getting ahead of myself here, but there are only a few weeks left of RS, will there be another season next year? I mean with TPC going on tour and all. The show is awesome and it beats listening to people perform "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on American Idol! Anyway, I am psyched to see who will win this thing. Please make sure TPC comes to NY! Ciao for now biotch.XOXOXO

I just watched Ryan's performance again. The one of him doing his original and not only do I like the song, but the performance is even better each time I watch. You can tell he's really feeling it. There's a lot of intensity there. Then, it brings me back to the Dilana drama. I remembered how she said that his song and/or performance would have basically been nothing without the house band. She got scared and she damn well should have.

It's like I said, I guess I'm a Ryan fan and didn't even know it. To me, that say's something.

"The latest breaking Canadian news" - are you sneering?

Posted by: Notayank at August 25, 2006 08:05 AM

Morning Dave. :-) Sounds like Steve and yourself have an ambitious, but productive, day ahead of you. :-) Hope you two have our Canadian amigos worked up into a TPC ‘panic.’ ;-) I’m cringing ;-) seeing the time stamp on your post… It’s easy to be a Night Owl in TO if you’re from the West Coast, but I remember those eeeearly mornings. LOL Glad to hear you’ll have a day off when you get home. A new SRL webcast is always a treat, but please take care of yourself, first. I’ve seen other TV productions from a behind-the-scenes POV. I know the insane amount of work and seemingly endless hours it takes to put out a show. It’s not uncommon for leads in a dramatic series to have 16-18 hour work days. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for scoping out book repositories or geographical bumps with a conspicuous line of sight, no. So sorry to hear you got hate mail and other vicious responses—that’s uncalled for, hurtful and over the line. I’ve seen a stunning amount of animosity and downright hatred online, this year, amongst different ‘camps’ that favor one performer over another and, frankly, it’s sickening. I applaud the performers that are left, think they’re extremely talented and wish them great success in their future endeavors. One person that has impressed me is Magni. I’m sure most of the performers help each other out, but he’s the one we always see playing piano and guitar with the others, onstage and off, to elevate their performances. He’s gone through some of this process sick as a dog with the flu, but been a trooper. Cheers to him for his “show must go on attitude and generosity to his peers. What a sadly predictable world it would be if everyone liked exactly the same things. If certain performers appeal to people, God bless and enjoy. I don’t see why that enjoyment is simultaneous cause for so many folks to unsheathe their claws on the other performers. It’s like watching a small scale war zone: lines are crossed, people do stupid things, there are skirmishes, and all the sudden intellectual walls go up and razor wire sprouts from people’s verbal tirades… I’m still giving SN a chance and while their second song won’t cure cancer or solve the ‘greenhouse effect’ ;-), it was fun and Toby was ‘on’ for both his performances. Toby has a great voice. (IMO, Lukas and Magni are even stronger in that department). However, early on, Toby seemed unseasoned at times and sometimes sabotaged himself during his performances. He’s learning and growing though, along with the other performers, and he has an engaging, fun-loving personality. Ah, now you’re killing me, man. ;-) The thought of hearing Steve and yourself jam acoustically is pure heaven. :-) Have a good one and here’s wishing you a safe journey back to LA.

Dilana totally deserved to get reamed for her insecure and desperate stunt at the media clinic and at her comments to Ryan. Let's see her do an original song. Oh, wait, she can't do an original song because she can't write worth shit!!!!! Dilana is a poser and a wannabe. She hasn't had an original performance since Zombie. All of you Dilana defenders get ready to have your ears bleed and get disappointed. Once she has to do an original, it will be all over. If you think the tounge lashing she gets over her media clinic fiasco is bad, wait til you see her get laughed at and raked over the coals for her songwritng skills. I, for one, can hardly wait to see her burn. It will be so funny.

Dave, you can't be serious if you think that she actually is a great performer. She is old and tired. As Magni said, she does the same thing every week. Boring!

Dave,
Off topic but curious about Gilby's dog and T. Lee doing the tounge thing. I see a pic of you and Tommy tongues touching and then caught a glimpse of Tommy's tongue touching the dog's tongue. Does Tommy have a tongue issue or something?? Actually pegged him up a few on my list seeing the dog kiss. St. Francis probably got a chuckle too.

Hey,

Was just looking at TPC website and saw the list of radio stations around the country to contact to help the band out. Ran accross the list of concerts in the area and found this.

2/2/2007 Fri Supernova (Feat: Tommy Lee / Jason Newsted / Gilby Clarke) / Panic Channel (Feat: Dave Navarro ) The Schott $27.50 / $37.50 / $57.50 (TOS 8/30 10am)

Is it true the band will be with Supernova?

Posted by: Laura at August 25, 2006 08:22 AM

I'm hoping Storm's going to go this week. She's a very good singer but her stage performance just bugs me at times.

I'd rather have Dilana go but I'm pretty sure she'll still get a lot of votes.

The Dark Horse or Magni better win otherwise I don't see myself buying a Supernova album. Toby, maybe, but I don't think he'll be on the show much longer.

Posted by: EDR37 at August 25, 2006 08:26 AM

Thank you for the comment on Dilana's range I'd like to add to that if I may. Billy Holiday who was and remains the finest Jazz vocalist who ever lived had a range of just over an octave. Jazz requires a hell of a lot more of the vocalist than does Rock and Lady Day burned the Motherfucker down with far less range than Dilana has. There's a little thing called feel and another called tone which are keystones of a good vocal performance. The way the singer approaches the material and works with what tools they have is critical. Certainly if you have a 5 octave range he have a few more tools in the box but that doesn't make you great. Range is a nice thing to have but it's not required, skill is,understanding your voice is, don't sing metal if you sound like Ryan and don't sing soul if you sound like Lukas [if you sound like Lukas don't sing..sorry personal opinon creeped in].
OK and now for the chastising. Dave....Dave, Dave, Dave..Dilana screwed up but dogging her about it was worse dude, particularly whenthe whole damn group has talked smack about each other. Will you call out Lukas next as he's clearly not the mansion sweetie pie based on the comments of Ryan. Will you dog him about his personal habits based on the comments of Toby? Will you call out Toby for cursing us with kids walking around say "Evs"? Mostly will you apologise for going beyond the call? she's a tiny woman with a huge talent and your actions may well have robbed us of seeing more of her.

Hey there Dave. First of all I have to say I realy enjoy listening to you and I love that you stay in touch with your fans like this. It goes to show that you know no one is a star with out fans and you know how to treat them. Good job.

I've been reading so many comments about Delana and I just had to give my 2 cents. I'm not "in the business" but sometimes it's about common sence. I think they all have talent even though all of their singing syles are not to my taste. I agree that she has started to go to far with alot of her comments, however, we have all (in the business or not) gotten a swelled head about something and gotten a little egotistical about it at one time or another until it is pointed out to us. This is what has happened with her. It's funny that first she was perceived as being nice and down to earth but when she screws up or starts to get a swelled ego every one is quick to bash her and say her "true colors" are showing. Since none of us know her personally who is to say that the bad has to be the "true colors", the way she was in the beginning could just as easily be her "true colors" and she just messed up like every one else has at some point in their lives. When the others on the show say anything b*^tchy no one says their "true colors" are showing.

As for her singing, I'm starting to wonder if I'm seeing the same performances as those that come down on her so hard. If you don't like her style that's fine, everybody does not like the same thing, if we did life would be way to boring. But to say she doesn't change things up or that she has no range? Come on, she has sang heavy mtal, balads, pop and even country and rocked every performance. Yes she has a gravely deep voice but she definately has range, just look at when she sang her last song her voice did not have that at all and if you watched the webisode when she first started practicing that song you could see that she is not used to singing like that at all and she had to work her *ss off to get it right. That showed me just how hard she works at trying to improve herself and to grow as a singer.

I don't mean to come down on other peoples opinions, we all have a right to our own, but the way many of you (not all) express yourself is just as bad if not worse than what she said about her house mates in the interviews or to them in the mansion. The only difference is that she is the one "with the target on her back" and not you.

(takes a deep breath, exhales and relaxes to keep enjoying life)

Now that I've ranted enough, peace Dave and keep up the good work.

Ha! Dave, I started out watching RS:SN not being a fan of yours because, well, you're in every damn print guitar ad I ever see and you just seem so over-media-ized (there's a less polite word for that, but I won't use it here)!

But reading your blog and watching you on the tube has definitely given me respect for your mind and your wit...love the bit about the holiday centerpiece, and also love the fact you keep in constant contact with your fans. Much to my surprise, you're a pretty class act!

Posted by: Margo at August 25, 2006 08:54 AM

Hi, Dave! LOVE your blog. Regarding Dilana, you are so right about her messing up with the press and she deserved to be called out on it & embarassed by it. It was a calculated terrible move on her part that blew up in her face. However, the one thing I can't get over is how rude & mean she was to Ryan to put down his success thatnight with his original song. Wasn't she the one who said she was a nice person when you asked her about why she was coaching Dana? Where did that nice person go? Hopefully, she's found her again. Also, please let the producers know that it was a mistake to knock off the 3rd night of Rockstar. The webisodes at the mansion are very interesting & should be aired on TV. Thanks for a great show. I hope it will be back again next year.

Hey Dave,
It's admirable you intend to make mention of Dilana before performance show... I think it would serve the intended purpose.. As far as people getting on you for her "range" admittedly there are some that find fault with any great front person... for when people have love hate responses it is because they evoke passion... that's a good thing...
if they are making you feel... they are doing their job.. When Dilana or Lukas for that matter first walked out on the stage.. I wanted to hear them.. they were compelling...Some people try to be compelling... some just are... and perhaps lukas and dilana clash cuz they both seem to have dysfunctional past.. and you must agree.. dysfunction creates rock and roll personas...

I think Ryan is doing all he can to be what SN wants... I wish he was just naturally more aligned.. instead of contrived... his talent is obvious.. I think he'd be an amazing force in an alternative darker feel band...

I think Toby is truly a gem in the rough... and if it were a fledgling band his lack of maturity wouldn't be such a hinderance... he's got something special...

I think Magni has a killer voice... and nice composure and calmness.. he's good with himself.. He's not tortured enough though.. people see him as a bit boring becuse he comes off fulfilled... lol funny how people interpret...

I think Storm has the best voice technically.. but like many good voices... she counts a bit too much on her ease of hitting all the notes to dazzle... and not revealing herself more... all her bumps and wrinkles... I feel her performance is large... haha but not her.. like her name even if it's real... I feel I'm not getting pure honesty...Personally I require much more gut emotion...

I think Lukas is dark yet playful.. and his failings are two for me... He doesn't articulate enough in his singing... the story can't unfold if I don't understand the words.. and his partying seems excessive... which in itself is a step backwards for the guys in SN... they admittedly have learned these lessons... But he's got great stage presence and as a front person has confidence and playfulness.. i love it..

I think Dilana needs you to merely watch her performance from day one... standing still singing from under her hoodie I was riveted.. I mean right then and there.. whether SN jumped on board or not.. this was the person that delivered.. the real deal.. I wasn't sure to hug her or run for my life... Not "acting" spooky... just a little pent up rage perhaps... after that it wasn't her auditioning for me.. it was her in concert... performing each week.. one who has already arrived...and it's for SN to decide if she fits... but she's my choice..

Are you guys going to be on HTZ FM? They are just outside of TO in St. Catherene's and we can get the station in the states (Buffalo). Thanks for the RS insight and panic channel news.

Posted by: Sue at August 25, 2006 09:16 AM

Hi Dave!! I'm not sure that it was totally right to call Dilana out like that. She shouldn't have done that, but she is not the only one there to have said some inappropriate things. I have been watching the show for a while and it seems Ryan and Lukas are a little bit of the pot calling the kettle black. No one called Ryan out when he called Patrice a B!tch or Lukas for the stuff he says. I just think that they saw an opportunity to make her look bad(not that she needed any help) and they jumped on it.

i've thought this for the last few weeks and i think it would be amazing, but i know it will never happen.. but i'd LOVE to see steve isaacs get up there on rock star and belt out a song - show these "youngsters" how to do it! let them see a great front person! my friend said the same thing to me - imagine supernova with steve isaacs!

my guess is you don't want to give him up!

rock on dave! love (ONe)! i'm really lookng forward to (TWo) now!

Dave,

Holy shit. My office is right across the street from the Edge. I'm gonna go see if you're still there. If you've left already, my message is this: somehow, some way, get Lukas to sing some Freddie Mercury. Show is over.

Another tip: Dilana got off pretty easy with a forced apology, so she should pay the price by doing her own original song at performance. (She doesn't appear to have any.) Why don't you go take a look at either one of her two original songs, I think on youtube. You'll laugh your ass off and they were only a few years ago.

Tell Luke that Toronto is missing him so much.

Shitty weather we're having today, after a long hot summer.

Holiday centre pieces already?? FUCK ME!!!!

Dave wow, nice reception for you and Steve at Much Music. There's a lot of love up in here for TPC.

RS:SN gets interesting now. As you say half the 'rockers' remaining will be in the bottom three this week. One previous poster from Iceland, probably 300 or 400 back by now, was complaining that voting there is open from 3-6:00 am. So, regardless of whether or not he does back flips WHILE shooting fireworks out of his ass he will probably be in the bottom 3 until he's eliminated, along with Storm and whoever else is left, oh ya Toby.

\m/ \m/

peace y'all

I voted online for the request show this week and I was disappointed in the song choices for each performer. Pretty much all of them were either songs they had already sang or songs that someone else had already sang this season. What would make for an exciting show, in my opinion, would be to let each rocker choose any song (within the show's restricitions) they wanted to sing. Or to have a whole show of them performing their own original songs. If not the latter, then at least the former. I know I'm not the first person to think of or mention this, but it would be a refreshing change. AND it would definitely change the dynamics of the competition as well as offer us some extra insight as to what the artist is about. Just my two cents...

GO MAGNI

Dave, thanks for this blog, I appreciate the time it takes you to a) post entries in here, and b) read all the comments.

You're a fan's dream. Thanks for thinking of us.

Oh yeah, and GO MAGNI!!

Posted by: Billy at August 25, 2006 09:33 AM

Dave, I really hope you don't say something to Dilana for owning up to her mistakes. In my opinion, she just got caught with her hands in the cookie jar. It's like catching your significant other in bed with someone else. It would be pretty difficult for them to claim "I'm not cheating on you!" I must say, my ex-husband would have tried that line!

Lukas Rossi rocks, and at least he doesn't talk about people behind their backs!

Keep up the good work Dave. I hope I will be able to listen to SRL tomorrow.

Morning Dave and Fam,

It's funny....After those comments you made on ever re-uniting JA on Kimmel, there has been several stories on the net with the headings, "Dave Navarro not ruling out a Jane's Addiction Reunion!" and other misleading headlines totally misconstruing your comments from that interview. I guess that's a great example of how you really DO have to be careful how you say things to the press.
Happy almost weekend everyone! Love, Amber :)

Hi Dave,

I'm wondering why you never mention Magni in your posts ? What gives ? Is he insignificant in your view because he comes from a small country ? They do buy cd's and attend concerts overthere as well you know......

Posted by: julie at August 25, 2006 09:39 AM

A Question Dave...Would you find out and tell us why so many of the songs the public had to choose from were repeats of songs they had already sung on the show rather than fresh material? If I read it right there was like one new song for each out of four selections. Thanks.

Posted by: Cosina at August 25, 2006 09:41 AM

I went on their site 2 days ago and there was no mention of it whatsoever!
I def would have made a beeline for Queen Street had I known!

DAVE BLOG As for her "range"... A lot of people are on me because they feel she has no range. I totally disagree, but even still, I can't help think about Lou Reed's range or even Mick Jagger's. Not a whole lot of range going on there either, however, Mick is arguably one of rock's most compelling front men.
______________________________________________
Dave you say you disagree but them try to compare dilanas range to mick jagger or lou reed?? LOL Dilana stage presence and voice are not anywhere as entertaining to be compared to mick jagger. PLEASE so now you are going to backtrack on what you said the last show and give her credit. Dilana is a bitch and I dont believe she has any regrets.. she only pretended to feel bad cause she got caught.. Her drama is taking away from the music and talent of the other rockers. This is becoming Big Brother.

Posted by: mmerc at August 25, 2006 09:55 AM

dave, i love how you called ryan the dark horse, because thats so true, he's really been stepping it up since mid season...if he doesn't win this thing i think you guys should do some sort of collaboration, that would be awesome, i think the sound you two could bring to a track would be unbelievable...i'm still hoping he wins, but man it would be cool to see you guys together

God, it's so weird how people get so freaking hyped about this. Like beyond hyped up about this stuff - personally I always thought the conspiracy theories and the grassy knoll stuff was ridiculous. Yet people actually believe stuff like that happens! It's like, people think MPB is making some kind of storyline and strategising with all his people about how to go about making sure one person wins from Day 1 and all this other crap. It's insane!

Hey Dave,

Got to see you and Steve last night at MTV - you two were STELLAR! Funny as fuck too (can I swear here?) Must say that Steve's vocals kicked ass - no doubt otherwise you'd never have handed over something as personal as 'Bloody Mary' if you thought he couldn't pull it off - ever thought of singing it yourself though? Only one complaint: wish you guys had the time to hang/chat... I know, I know, busy schedule. Well can't wait to see the FULL band now! Come back soon! x.

Hi Dave,
Last night, after waking from the couch sometime after midnight, dizzy and disoriented (sick), I set my alarm and started up the stairs to bed. Top of the stairs, all hell broke loose as my klaxon house alarm sounded. In my sick confusion, I'd set my alarm wrong. Anyhow, after making nice with the alarm company I was no longer sleepy (heart pounding along with my head), though I really needed sleep, so I stretched on my bed, in the dark, and turned on MTV. There you were! I really enjoyed listening to you and Steve chat about your music, and how Panic Channel came about. Helped me forget my nasty scare, if not the nasty bug. Looking forward to hearing more of you guys, after dark, and during daylight.

Dave, you may be in for some major damage control since your co-producer decided to open his mouth and stick his big dick in it. What's your take on him providing the outcome before the show is over? Why not pack the rest up and send them home now? Talk about the contestants mouthing too much to the press maybe your boy TLEE needs a major whip-down as well.

Hey, I'm from Canada and I thought your description of the morning programs pretty funny. "The latest breaking Canadian news" which is, mostly good news, is that so bad?

Did you break up with "Stormy" or something?

You didn't exactly "trade up" with Dilanna. I think Chopper should just bark to the music.

Dave,

I read this all the time and never comment. I'm a pretty big fan of yours and I think you're doing a superb job on Supernova there. I love how you just rip into the rockers and just make them answer your questions.

Anyway, I am looking forward to hearing what Ryan will do on a Supernova track as well. He's really come through these past weeks. Love the Dark Horse.

Also, do you think they'll have both Ryan and Magni do "I alone" because of this fan voting thing?

OOOHHHHHhhh. i'm so very excited this week. R

First of all, this is NOT topcat! As it will show when this e-mail posts. I'm so glad that you are giving Dilana a break, no one is perfect and your right, you, Tommy and the rest of the rocker's in the world have all fucked up with press interviews. Geez people get over it. She is the most talented performer on the set! She knows what the audience wants. I love Magni, and Ryan, I enjoy Storm I think she has a fabulas voice, but she is there to promote her band, just like Phil. Lukas, he has a frog in his throat, he is also to punk for me. Dave georgeous Dave,

I cannnot help but wonder what was actually going on between you and Patrice. It seemed as if there was something really personal between you two? I have major respect for you as an artist and I love spread radio live. Please tell me that you are not a closet homophobe. I don't feel that you ever gave Patrice her true props. I guarantee that if you had been a bit more open, and possibly herself as well, there would have been a spark of huge acknowlegement there that I felt was missing in your acceptance of her, and so far I have been right on with my perceptions of you with responses to different questions, the way you have handled all things public, (I really don't need or want to know your personal life). Cant believe I was so off on you and Patrice. I really love and appreciate her as an artist. I really wish you would dig around a listen to alot of her music. It is as diverse, and passionate as yours is with all your endeavors-I think that JA is one of the best bands ever and you guys have influenced many. Can't wait to hear more of you and TPC. I dreamt of you with a mind more open. It felt like the air was punched from my lungs when I reallized you had a "Dilana Fetish". I never expected any cheese from you ever. Still a huge fan of yours, just have to look at you a little more with my right eye now, than with my left. Peace, Love and Good Luck Lisa

Hi Dave,
Have a safe trip back from Canada, hope it all goes fantastically. I have a question for you - we can obviously only see what is shown on TV, and the sound is definitely not the same. If you watch them back on TV after the performances, does anyone sound a lot better or a lot worse in person then they do on air? I wonder if that has something to do with how we are voting. Thanks for all the info Dave! Love reading your posts each day.

It was wrong to for any of the singer to put each other down. Surley more for them to talk about then each other. Just a thought hmmm.

Dave DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To tell Dilana that everything is cool because she apologized will be totally disrespecting the other candidates that she slammed.

You did justice in calling her out, props to you for doing so, don't backtrack and make her look good just because she made a forced apology. I mean what else could she do, accept maybe show a backbone and stand by her statement, at least then I would have more respect for her. Maybe she has learned from this and if you have to say all is forgiven do it in private between you and her.

For the sake of the other rockers and their fans please do not cater to Dilana on the set, that just would not be cool!!

To Elijah regarding the black background w/white font: I've found that if I highlight the text, it's much easier to read. Background becomes bright blue and white lettering is brighter also. (What can I say -- old eyes :-P)

I agree that some people may be talking this Dilana thing too seriously, but this is a serious band. Dilana said she said those things because she's "too honest" You can't be too honest with the media. The media always knows who they can get to talk, and you can be sure they'd love to get dirt on Tommy and the rest of Supernova.

As for wether or not Lukas can write a song, we all know he can.

You should not feel forced into making a comment to Dilana. You are not to blame for Dilana Drama...it was her. Alot of us have been noticing stuff for weeks now. I refuse to support a fake and a poser. I do not feel like her "owning up" was real....she felt backed into a corner and said what people wanted to hear. Watch it again. IT was hollow. She was actually quite pissed and to me it showed the true person Supernova would have to work with. She would start to say one thing and then when the audience gave a bad reation then she would switch it and say the opposite. That is not owning up and it is not honest. She does not deserve props for owning up when she did it to just save face. You should just leave it alone and let the chips lay. Otherwise, you end up looking like you are trying to "fix" it for the Dilana fans who got pissed off. Some of us got pissed off and some of us decided that it was just the icing on the cake to stop supporting her. I started with getting bored with her act. She sounds like she has no range because she can only sing in the low range and can not reach the high range. So she always sounds monotone and the same. Her stage act is polised because it is always the witch swaying type arm thing with some stolen Tina/Michael moves. She started boring me to death before her ugly personality raised its head. The first time or two you see her you think wow but I could not handle a concert of hearing and seeing the same act over and over. Magni said it best....she is a one trick pony.

WHY ME !!! I have a meeting from 3-5 today so I can't even listen live when you and Steve are at the Edge today!

Awwww Dave, Don't leave tonight!

Since you have a full day off tomorrow,
why don't you just hang out in Toronto
for 1 more day :)

And instead of doing the SRL from your house tomorrow, you can do the SRL from my house :D

Thanks for thinking about all your fans north of the border too! It really means alot to us.
Hope you and Steve have enjoyed it here.
We'll miss you!

Dave, can you confirm or deny this?

"Rocker DAVE NAVARRO is getting busy as he attempts to cope following his marriage split - he has now signed up to co-write and produce a new TV drama. The former JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist, who split from wife CARMEN ELECTRA earlier this summer (06), has teamed up with his biographer, rock journalist NEIL STRAUSS, to pen THE PRODUCT. The drama surrounds a fictional rock band, called LOAD, whose members no longer speak to one another but have to be seen to get along for a Rolling Stone magazine story. Busy Navarro also fronts his own new group, PANIC CHANNEL, has a hobby supergroup, called CAMP FREDDY, and also co-hosts US TV talent contest ROCK STAR.

Geez Dave I'm glad to hear you actually get a day off soon. It is definitely well deserved.

Another SRL tomorrow would rock. Maybe I can get a birthday shoutout from you ; )

Can't wait to hear Lukas with Supernova. Ryan, not so much. Magni still holds some cards and I enjoy what he does. He just doesn't leave me wondering what's going to happen next. That's where Lukas is the master.

And if you get a chance, tell the boys to darken the ho ho's and whoo hoo's..that's just not roit.

There should be a party segment on the show where we can see if the contestants are able to hang with the band. Afterall, chemistry is a big part of the band. Some lightweight could sink the whole ship.

Dave,

Hey man, cool show. The reason I watch it is because of the talent. Also, my step dad is named David Navarro. LOl! No joke. Anyway...you need to get rid of that storm chick...she called you a bitch on national television...get rid of her.

Dilana is too weird. She has talent for sure...great singer but there's something not right about her. I think Lukas will win.

I can only hope that when fans do vote Dilana into the bottom 3, that the band listens to its fans and ticket-buyers and sends her home.

Posted by: Dulcinea at August 25, 2006 12:07 PM

Well, this is a rock blog so I might as well say it plain. Dilana is to "unattractive" to win. LOL! Storm Large is attractive but can't sing like Dilana. Storm's singins isn't strong enough to beat out Lukas, Magni, Ryan, or Toby. Not that I'm against but I think Storm is lesbian.

So, more details on that Christmas table arrangement? Pet a moose for me. They like gettin their chin hair scratched. Watch the teeth tho. Nippy lil buggers.

re: Dilana's range...it sounds like she has or has had vocal nodes. at which, she should be really careful with the strain on those cords, or her career's gonna be a really short one.

Have to say... normally I'm not into the reality tv bit, but i've been enjoying RSN & your commentaries - you're a pretty intelligent dude. i like ThePC stuff as well, tho it sounded much diff. than i thought it would.

Okay, so the only thing I want to comment on Dave, is thinking about you in the shower. That's Hot!!! Oh, and again I still believe that Dilana is the one for SN. She's crazy but so likable. Okay, so now I need to jump in the shower <:

Posted by: mary at August 25, 2006 12:12 PM

Dilana? Dilana who?..... my vote is for Magni

Posted by: Lea at August 25, 2006 12:16 PM

Week after week, show after show, you continue to tell those muthas about what they should be doing or not doing and most of them don't get it. You'd think that they would get it by now. I think Lukas gets it and so does Dilana (she's cool but not for this band...) even Magni but he's not as interesting to watch as the other two. As for Ryan, Toby and Storm... well... some other time perhaps. They are not for this band, although all are good. I quite like Storm and kinda consider her the 'dark horse' out of these three.

I don't mind seeing a guitar gettin smashed but make it a cheapo knock off, not a Gibson (cry cry weep weep)!

I have felt since the beginning that Lukas is the one for SN cuz if you add up the whole package you get: him... some of the others may be better singers or have better attitudes or whatever but he ranks well enough in all categories to win outright... But would they allow a Canuck to win two years in a row...? Maybe here is the conspiracy! I, for one, don't care the nationality but other, less secure people do, so... we wait and see.

Looking forward to listening to your new disc! Hopefully you'll make it out to Alberta so that we can catch it live!
Cheers

Hi Dave,

You are so funny! I love the blog & have been watching RS:SN. I agree with all your comments thus far except re: Dilana - just move on yourself! Don't worry about talking to her again :)

Love that you're up here in Canada, I'll be listening to you on the Edge shortly.

Go Lukas!!

Posted by: Shelly at August 25, 2006 12:18 PM

Lukas, without doubt, has serious talent. I tune in to watch him because I like his Billy Idol thing he did. I'd like to see him do Born on a Bayou by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Or for that matter, any of the singers to that song.

Anyway, one thing I notice about Lukas is that he seems to be somewhat arrogant, which, to me, translates to be somewhat being over confident. It doesn't come off well, even though it's subtle.

He turns his back on the audience, which is cheap. It could be an indication of Lukas being uncomfortable with the song or with his stage presence. Well, if he's arrogant then that would be an oxy-moron. Arrogant and self-conscious about his stage presence? Go figure!

Posted by: the Sue w/horses at August 25, 2006 12:27 PM

Why Dilana won't win. Because being a rock star revolves around getting women. Do you think Dilana will attract women? If she does they'll be dykes. I don't think the fellas want to attract dykes. Dilana is good but she has no chance because of the dyke factor.

mike

Posted by: Michael Teniente at August 25, 2006 12:30 PM

Michael T: Are YOU a closet homophobe, perhaps? You asked Dave if he was a homophobe, then Storm's a lesbian, and now Dilana's a dyke?

Posted by: the Sue w/horses at August 25, 2006 12:34 PM

Sue,

I didn't say Dilana is a dyke. I said all she'll attract is dykes. If you were a straight rocker, after or before a show...would you want to have sex with a dyke? Especially when the dyke doesn't want to have sex with you but with Dilana. She make the top 3 but when it's all said and done SN won't choose her because of the type of women she'll attract.

I didn't ask Dave if he was homophobe. Shit he was married to Carmen Electra...I thought for sure I was going to hear about him and Brooke. Why do rock stars love "beautiful" women? Look at Tommie Lee's women. You think it's not part of their thinking? Dilana can't attract that. She won't win. LOL! It's reality baby!

Hey Dave,

I hope you enjoyed your trip to TO. I just heard you will be on ET Canada tonight. Looking forward to seeing it!

Next time you're in town, you gotta stop for a coffee at Tim Horton's. Its the best. Beats Starbucks anytime.

Please don't say anything to Dilana on Sunday night about her "owning up to her mistakes". She should have apologized (wish it were sincere) and doesn't deserve a medal for doing it. What's done is done. She made a mistake and got what she deserved. It would be disrespectful to the Rockers that she slammed as well as their fans. Giving it more airtime will just fan the fire. Lets move on!

Mick Jagger may not have range but man, is he charismatic and a great stage performer. Something Dilana is lacking. Lukas, on the other hand, has an amazing stage persona and killer voice. I wish him luck.

The next time you see Ryan, can you slip a laxative into his beer or something? He looks a little constipated. Seems to be straining a lot on stage. Worried he might blow his bowels all to hell.

Take care and have a safe flight home.

Hi Dave,
I wanted to thank you for choosing KHZ (thekhx.com) to host last Wednesday. After seeing them recommended on your site, I followed the links and was so wowed I bought my first cd in, well, a few years. Caught their first show on Spread Radio Live and the second. They do a fun, entertaining with great tracks (including the new Panic Channel - which will be my 2nd cd to buy now).

Please keep them on as their and your schedule allows. Thank you for supporting Indie Rock and they're really going to go places - they have the balls (and balloons - inside joke), dedication and talent to do it. Thank you for supporting them and yes, Raiana sure deserves to be a Vixen on your site - for far more than her Goddess given beauty.

Thanks also for the concept you have with Spread Radio Live and the work you and Dave do. I'll catch the show tomorrow (don't know how you have the energy - must be some killer coffee you're drinkin' d00d!).

Hey Dave! Damn me, I didn't know you were going to be on Bookie's show until it was too late. I love Bookie's interviews because his enthusiasm is infectious. I bet you and Steve had a good time and that the interview was entertaining. I'm so sorry I missed you.

Now, as a person who has questioned Dilana's range, let me recant. After listening to her songs over again I will agree that she has range, what she lacks is versitilty and colour. Her voice is the same no matter how high or low she sings, there is no quality in her voice, no grace. And that is perhaps why people think she has no range, her vocal timbre doesn't change, no softness, no emotion. Just the same sound coming out of her throat.

I find this strange because when you look at her past performance before SN, she was very pop, she even did a straight-up cover of "Hit Me Baby One More Time". She sang it exactly the same way as Britney. Where is that voice? That nice light tone, without the vibrato or growl? She could do well using a bit more colour in her repetoir. And then again, since all of the songs I've heard her do prior to SN have landed difinitively in the lap of pop music, how authentic is she as a rock singer? Sure, people cross genres all the time but how long can she keep singing in a false voice. What will happen when she has to carry that for weeks on end? How soon before her voice gives out? Do SN want to take that chance? Singing a couple of songs a night or even a full set once or twice a week does not prep you for touring.

Anyway, thanks for the blog, it is always thought provoking and interesting.

Posted by: PhanTim at August 25, 2006 01:12 PM

Ok, I have never commented before but this place is getting wild.....I just wanted to say I did like Dilana in the beginning, but became bored 3 weeks in, then the media thing I thought was wrong, but that is SN's job to read into that, but when she rags on fellow competitors just to make herself look good, that is bull#%$@. If you can't respect the others who are there doing their very best, then keep your mouth shut.

The other thing is, the only reason I have watched any RS episode is because Dave is the Hottest thing I have ever seen.....Love you new album, I play it all day at work....Will you ever be in the KY, IN, OH area......

I love reading this blog everyday, and knowing you keep in contact with your fans is really cool. Thanks

I have to say, I'm a woman (proud of it), and I completely agree with Mike. My daughter and I were just discussing this during the last show. What got us started are various comments that SN make and the one that Ryan made last week i.e., getting laid makes you a better rockstar. Also, I thought it was interesting when Dilana sang with SN that they said "See we think a woman COULD front our band." ...or something to that effect. So was there ever any doubt? And the way Tommy calls only the women "baby"...isn't that sexual harrassment? I gotta keep my daughter aware of these things...tv vs. reality. What got us talking about it some more was that we thought even with Toby in the bottom three, he would probably make it to the last three...because the girls (especially the young ones) just love him. Watch...the bottom three will be a man. Like it not, this world is run by dicks. Some are bigger than others.

Dave, just heard you on the Edge radio and I am really loving the music - against my better judgement (snicker). I may have to buy the cd since the few cuts I heard were worth another, longer listen. I also think my son will really be into it - he is one of those 10 year old kids who dislikes everything but music, karate, and video games (and gradually, alas, girls more and more) Congratulations, I am a convert. We will check you out when you guys hit town.

TO Michael Teniente, (12:43pm poster)
Fuck you asshole! I am not a dyke and I happen to think Dilana is the best of the bunch. She would attract a wide array of people because of her intense performance ability and great delivery. In fact, I firmly believe that she would attract a far greater number across a wider genre than any of the others combined. You are such an asshat to even think that the only reason these elder rockers are doing this gig is to get laid. What a dickless wonder!!!!! I take it you are about 17 with the maturity of a 10 year old - I take that back, my son is 10 and his maturity level greatly exceeds yours because he accepts people for who they are not what they look like or style of clothes they wear. I guess he was just raised properly by his heterosexual mother who has straight and gay friends. Now you may stick your head back up your ass and stay there.

Sorry Dave, the mf'er just irked me. Really love the music and am getting the cd on my way home tonight. LOL.

Hey Dave !

Nice job on RS:SN. I like that you make them justify their comments and their behaviors...teach them some good habits before they get out into the real rock n' roll world.

Personally, I think Dilana will probably win this thing. Do I think that's the best option for the band ? Not necessarily. I like Lukas a lot. I think he would fit in beautifully with the guys.

You are a genuine, beautiful person. Keep it up !
Have a safe flight.

Dilana is just nasty. She looks like a trashy bar waitress and is just mischievous and, oh yeah, sings like either a bear taking a dump or a dying coyote (see Webisode 7) when she tries ANYTHING DIFFICULT. Could Dilana sing "Why Cry" without busting a neck muscle? Nope.

MAGNI. MAGNI. MAGNI.

Dave, seriously, give Magni some props. I think you took an early disliking to him (and Toby) and have been trying hard not to like him and can't help yourself. lol.

Capitol Records presents ... Magni and the House Band. I love it.

Toby should front Supernova. Magni should front the House Band. Not saying which CD I would buy first, but they'd be in alphabetical order for sure.

Ryan -- why did you praise his guitar throw when it was obvious he ONLY DID IT because you JUST SUGGESTED IT?? Dude! I don't like how Ryan can't sing without squinting. If Lukas can't open his throat, why can't Ryan open his friggin' eyes??

I like Lukas, but he seems like a bomb ready to go off. He couldn't handle the party, he drinks 24 hours a day in the mansion, and most of his songs have sounded the same. I loved Creep and the Stones remix, but the rest have been blah. Y'all just like him because he's honest and has a rebellious attitude. I like that about him too, but this isn't Battle of the Bands, the winner has a BIG responsibility.

MAGNI. MAGNI. MAGNI. TOBY.

And Storm ... I just want her to attack me. And sing to me while I recover. Then attack me again. Then sing. Attack. Sing. Overandover.

I'm done.

Thanks for the blog - love the transparancy it brings to RS and your life as a "rock star".
However, did you have to end with the "shower" comment? Basically had me distracted for the day.

I find the comments from my fellow respondents regarding range and growth interesting. I'm a singer and I hope that I have a sound that I bring to my songs that is recognizably my own - why would I want to sound different for every song? Dilana has a distinctive voice - you can love it or hate it but I don't think it is reasonable to expect that she sound like a rocker on one song and an opera singer on another. Just my opinion. I don't have a personal favourite - just enjoying watching some quality performances with an excellent band.

Carrie,

Great response to the range issue. I think you are right in saying it is all about what you like and don't like. I personally like Magni...I think he has a strong voice and that SN could mold his stage presence into what they think they need.....but like everyone else that is just my opinion.....it will all come down to what SN wants for their band and their image....

Some of these responses are getting pretty personal...

Robin,

Not really, but it's part of the life. I mean...I haven't heard too much of their SN songs, only the 2 that were played. You think they're doing that for the purity of the music? The lyrics just aren't that deep. They don't have to be if all you're really trying to do is make money by doing something you know how do do, which is play a guitar, drums, bass, and sing.

It's cool, especially when the next Brooke Burke, Pam Anderson, or Carmen Electra might be walking into your life, whether it's for one night or a couple of years. A couple of years is a Rock Star's marriage time frame. LOL!

Dave, I agree with most of what you said here (conspiracy stuff). However, for you to pre-emptively decide to try to give Dilana some more props this coming sunday for her "owning up" (arguable) is unwarrented and possibly biased.

You/we don't even know what is to transpire at the mansion between now and then. Her behavior may be forgiven by the people actually affected by her actions. Or, her unprofessionalism may continue to escalate, making matters even worse or more difficult for those affected, who knows.

So perhaps you should let it go and move on. Dilana is a big girl, she will reap what she sows. It doesn't reflect well when one of the shows producers says he's "going to try and say something about Dilana owning up to her mistakes" you've already done that, move on. Sometimes conspiracy theories are based on these kinds of comments.

Sorry dude, had to be said, by a fan.
