Comments

FIRST and thanks for the spoiler warning Dave, but it was too late, and I'm pissed. Hey if anyone on here wants to go to the spoiler sites for yourself, fine. But don't post the information here and ruin it for everyone!

I've been a Ryan fan, but I did not like his performance tonight, and Storm's was even worse, but as I've said here before, I'm not a Storm fan, and she needs to go. She doesn't fit with Supernova. Why is she still there - because Tommy is hot for her? It seems like the contestants are trying so hard during the elimination performances, that they are getting worse and worse in quality. I agreed with Ryan's closing remarks tonight. He had talent and songwriting skills that could have given Supernova some longevity, but I think it is obvious they are looking for a singer to fit into a mold, and not bring any new direction to the table.

I like Lukas, but I didn't like his performance with Supernova tonight. It seems like Toby or Dilana is the best fit vocally and as an image for Supernova. Ryan and Lukas would be better off finding their own groove with a different project.

Toby was amazing on Storm's song last night. WOW. I didn't used to be a Toby fan, but he was great on the Supernova track. He really fits in, and I'm a big Toby fan now. And his version of "Layla" is off the hook - only song worthy to pay money for from the show.

How could there have been a record breaking number of votes last night when so many people couldn't vote online last night?? And how can Brooke say that Magni is winning the competition just because he was never in the bottom three last night? From what I understand, there will be a FINAL FOUR based on the public voting, and then it is subjective by Supernova to decide from there.

STOP THE SPOILERS! .....going to go watch Project Runway now.

First post? I won't ruin it for anyone, but I will agree with the choice made! Just wanted to tell you that you looked great as always tonight! What will I ever do without seeing you twice a week when this is over?! Come up with something for the winter blahs!!!

4th time this week? DAY-UM boy your making up for lost time!

Dude, Whos the smokin' hot Seniorita!? DAYUM!!

Rock on man... shame this wasn't going on when i was at work earlier, or, I noticed it going on maybe?

Keep it up, Peace

Live again?...awesome! I missed SN, still at work, which sucks! But I have TiVO and know who left thanks to the spoilers. So I am reading your book waiting for 11pm. All I can say is I sure hope there is a happy ending.

Love everything you do! Sorry that RS is over in a couple of weeks, but hopefully TPC will come to my town!

Love to all..........

Its awesome to hear more live SRL, Dave. "This is MY show suckaaa" haha! That was great!

Cool, I feel like a virgin, this will be my first time listening to you LIVE -

Posted by: Noelle at August 30, 2006 07:29 PM

Ooh, I'm going to listen to this stuff and see if you have good taste or not! ;)

Sacrificing Law & Order for it so fingers crossed!

Posted by: julieb75 at August 30, 2006 07:30 PM

I thought the show was good tonight. I was rocking a few times. The thing about music is it really is an "agree to disagree" situation. I hate the shit my neighbour plays and he probably can't stand mine so saying who I like or didn't like doesn't mean shit, someone liked them all! It's up to the band who wins in the end.

On a side note, I'd leave my husband for that Raiana....gorgous!!

Hey Dave,

Just on a break with my Diploma studies!
Just wanted to say Hi!!
Hope alls well and Have a great evening!

They did Ryan a Favor.. it's better to go this way then to A. have an emotional conflict later on tour with Ryan, B. Ryan is very able to go solo with his own style and technique and do very well. In fact I would buy his CD just to help legitimize him. Which brings me to this actually - As Dave said, whoever wins will always be the winner of a reality show, unlike the rest of the band, the winner will have that stigma to live with... Now Ryan won't, now Ryan can do his own and tour the next 20 years if he chooses, and not have to worry that after SuperNova is done, where he will go next. : I think it's a good choice. Buy his album, make him a real artist minus the reality show curse.. let toby live the angst , be dirty and sweaty and make the mistake.. Go Ryan Go.. Do it YOUR way now !! (Storm and the Ol'Lady are novelty now, no worry about Toby/ Ryan shoot out..)

Posted by: UnderCoversRocker at August 30, 2006 07:36 PM

Man, I'm so bummed. Ryan was the reason I watched this show. Tommy and the boys, I couldn't care less about. Their music is pretty mediocre if you ask me. Definitely not up to your level, Dave. I will follow Ryan's career. I hope he kicks ass. I have a feeling he will leave SN in the dust.

Posted by: Holly at August 30, 2006 07:37 PM

I think Ryan was simply saying he felt they could go 20 years.. can't be a wuss after bustin your ass all this time.. He had high hopes.. no contreversy there.. Better to be honest then blowin ass..

Posted by: UnderCoversRocker at August 30, 2006 07:38 PM

Dave
Tonight's song was amazing. Lukas is a great fit. His style and creativity make him stand out, and from the little footage I've seen of your songwriting skills, it seems he brings a tremendous amount of songwriting talent to the table. I think he gives Supernova a sound that's new, and that's now.
LOVE YA!!!

Posted by: Attitude at August 30, 2006 07:41 PM

Dave, only two more weeks of eye candy....that's you dude!

Posted by: Donna at August 30, 2006 07:43 PM

Thanks for autographing the hot pink bra in Toronto last week...my friend LOVED it, and the Bachellorette party was awesome! Thanks again!

Posted by: Gillian at August 30, 2006 07:45 PM

Jesus, Supernova songs really suck so far.

They are really disappointing after hearing all the great tunes that everyone is belting out.

The only reasonably good thing is the drumming.
The guitar is about as basic as every garage band I have ever heard and the lyrics are about as deep as my bathtub. Lukas would be the perfect fit with all that....

Sickboy

Posted by: Sickboy at August 30, 2006 07:47 PM

Ryan sucked. He looks like a constapated David Blaine and all he does is run around and scream. And I told you Dave that Magni was the best one and the fans agree with me !! I have no idea why you don't like him, and it's obvious you don't. He is a great singer and an easy going guy.

Posted by: doke at August 30, 2006 07:47 PM

Sorry to see Ryan go. I was not a huge fan of his, but he did make the most effort to change it up. Storm and Dilana are just annoying. My 4 year old son wants to know "what the heck is that" in regard to Dilana. She's getting far too much credit for what she does. Although I would tend to consider SN more of a band that I'd like over INXS, I think the talent last season was WAY better than anything I've seen this season. My favorite? Definitely the house band. They are tight.

Posted by: Msmcmutt at August 30, 2006 07:47 PM

how is storm supposed to "grow" when they don't give her specific constructive feedback?? They say, "great job," "solid performance," "excellent vocals," and then Gilby vaguely says "give me something memorable."

Ryan grew because they gave him very specific feedback on things he needed to improve on. They haven't given that to Storm, so how is she going to grow with such vague feedback? What, specifically, would you like to see her change??

Posted by: amanda42 at August 30, 2006 07:48 PM

I feel ya Dave.

Next Pirates of the Caribbean... you gotta be Captain Jack Sparrow's wild rocker brother. You need our votes, you got em.

Rock on

Posted by: Skitty at August 30, 2006 07:48 PM

Now that was AWESOME!! Lukas rocked the house with Supernova.

Posted by: amle at August 30, 2006 07:51 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAMN YOU SUPERNOVA! They didn't have to pick him but why couldn't they have let him stay on a bit longer?
I know, I know, Dave, you play no part in their decision-making. That's why I still love you.

Posted by: Somebody at August 30, 2006 07:53 PM

As much as I love Dilana, as a performer, I don't think she belongs with Tommy and his crew. No way...to many man hater issues. It will affect the band...deffinitely, and at the wrong times. Sorry babe, I will be a fan, but you would ruin this band...or Tommy would end up killin' her..lol...kiddin'.

I like Lukas' change in appearance and attitude. He is adorable, just what the band needs. He is so laid back and non chalant...however you spell it. Perfect for those crazy hectic road trips that make you want to choke someone without the historical issues.

Appearance wise, I think he is taking some pointers from Dave...smarty.
Dave: "dude, you bitin' off me"? lol.

He is cute, I changed my whole view of him from the beginning...he totally fits...him and Tommy would conquer in many ways. Great fit.

...........but, what the hell do I know...I listen to disco. lol.

Lame! Thanks Dave for Supporting Ryan all the way there at the end. I own his solo CD and Stage CD and I will be following his career for sure. I was hoping he would make it to the finals for selfish reasons, but I didn't see him with the band. He will be just fine, I know it! Loves to ya!

Posted by: Carla at August 30, 2006 07:56 PM

Dave, Love your show!!!!!!! Give some props to my girl D, she needs a "hug" this week! Any ideas on the rumors floating of having two singers front the band? Can you imagine ticket sales with D and Lukas!!!!

Posted by: aj at August 30, 2006 07:59 PM

I agree, the comments about Storm tonight were bogus. Storm rocks, I love that girl. She won't win however. Didn't like the way Lukas sounded on the Supernova song either. Strange because I loved him on Tues night.

Posted by: David at August 30, 2006 08:00 PM

phenomenal idea Skitty! Dave get "mom" on it. Pirates of the Caribbean -Bad in Black-The Sparrow Brothers.

Posted by: B at August 30, 2006 08:02 PM

I have to say that I have been with Dilana all the way & didn;t like how suddenly they focused on her being the bad guy. I am still a Dilana fan but OMG, Toby was awesome! Between the song with Storm & Rebel Yell, I may become a convert.

Posted by: Susie Q at August 30, 2006 08:03 PM

Dave,

Good thing I didn't look at this before I left work. I did the DVR thing. Love it! I just watched the show and I was not at all impressed with Lucas's singing with SN. I barely heard him the majority of the time. I couldn't hear what he was singing except with the couple Shine On's he sang a little louder. I think his voice is too low for SN. Right now, my top three picks to sing for SN is Dilana, Magni, or Toby. Next week Magni needs to sing with SN for me to finalize who is my pick for SN.

BTW - I agree with you on Dilana's performance of Mother Mother last night. I thought she rocked!

Peace!

Dave

I'm hurtin for dilana. Not carin' who wins or loses... she shouldn't either.

Who shows up for an audition and gets publicly humiliated with their worst moment sobbing out loud blasted over international television? And shown over and over. No wonder she is rattled to the core, that's how she looks.

It's like Mark Burnett pinned a scarlet letter on her for a while. It's like woman power freaked out the rock world so much they had to take one down. That is freakin me out to see that. Man, she's not running for office, she just showed up to sing for some people.

That was just so wrong. I feel like checkin in on her like a friend, see if she's OK.

But I'm just an out there fan, part of the TV audience, speculating about someone I don't even know. Media today is pretty crazy.

I don't think Supernova wanted to destroy someone on the way to picking out a singer...
If someone could see if D is OK, tell her let the chips fall where they may. Now if she doesn't get the gig I'm afraid she'll feel destroyed and that's not right, might be the best thing that ever happened to her.

Oh well. Thanks for listening.

All I got to say is 'Thank-you Dave' for posting that yummy picture. Oh - and thank-you for admiting that you are part of the supernova conspiracy to rule the world. I appreciate the honesty. Oh - and ya, Ryan rocks and he will be fine as long as he doesn't turn into a complete a-hole!

Listening to your SRL show right now, loving the Rock Star talk and the song choices tonight. Would like to send some questions your way too but I don't have AIM and I won't ever get AIM!

Oh, and you're bang on when you say that you just can't fucking win no matter what you do. Can't please em all.

Go Dave! Go Lukas!

Posted by: bajatango at August 30, 2006 08:09 PM

Dave,

I can't believe Ryan is gone this early. Magni and Storm should have gone before Ryan did. Ryan is truly a great artist (I just got his cds, even with his band Stage) and I don't think I'll be able to watch this show as I used to anymore.

We've seen 6 or 7 straight kick ass performances from Ryan and he will be missed. I will support him from here on.

Posted by: carlo at August 30, 2006 08:09 PM

Can't take credit for the Pirates idea for Dave, someone else posted it a couple of posts ago and nobody picked up on it. Wish I knew who it was to pass along proper credit but read too fast and don't feel like looking for it.

Thought it was a great idea so thought I'd bring it back to life. Pirates... the musical... rock opera at its creepiest. The Sparrow brothers take over LA and destroy TV...

Posted by: Skitty at August 30, 2006 08:09 PM

Just to comment on Skitty's blurb. I think our society takes immense pleasure in building someone to reach the top of the stool and then takes ten fold pleasure in tearing them down. It happens in sports, entertainment and even in most workplaces. I think this is learned behavior and find the jealous personality types are usually the wolves.

Hello Dave..
I just want to say that I'm Really proud of Magni's Performance last night :)And I'm allways proud of him.! he's from a small country and he's one of the 5 who's left.. I never thougt 6 months ago that he would be doing this, But look at him know :P I think that's awsome man..! But all of the rockers have showed that they are a great singers and it's hard to tell who's the best now.. It's not about who's the best singer anaymore, it's about who will fit the band the best so I want to see Magni and Storm singing with Supernova on the next show, like lucas, Toby and Dilana got to do so the fans can judge themselves who is the best singer for the band:D All of them are allways getting better and I look forward to the next show ;)
And can you say to Magni that we are really proud of him here back in Iceland ;)
Lots of Thanks ;)

Yo! Diggin' the TPC disc!! Great stuff. My wife even digs it. And that girl is one musically critical woman.

I'm with you, btw. Dilana kicks ass. Rather than see her make SN, I'd like to see you and her do a side project, possibly. You two seem to have the same dirty vibe. It's awesome and I'd really like to see something come outta that. As for Supernova, they have a lot of other talent to choose from--I mean that sincerely.

Posted by: Ped at August 30, 2006 08:20 PM

I agreed that Dilana was the best performance on 'Mother Mother', but did not vote for her, figuring that others would vote for her and that SN would't kick her out in any case. Instead, I voted for Ryan and Storm, hoping that Toby would be kicked out. I think others did strategic voting and put Dilana in the bottom three.

Posted by: P at August 30, 2006 08:21 PM

Toby - love Australia...but, he needs a U.S.A. rock couch or something...a little bit soft, not that it's a bad thing...but, I see him and think...would make a nice boyfriend, not so much American Rock Star type...hey, not personally speaking, but you know. Ausies are like really "nice". He's cute, but he needs a rock couch...and then, perhaps. Makes an awesome back up singer, though...seems to get more confidence singing back up.

Magni - wants to be a solo artist. It's pretty bloody obvious...again, not a bad thing...but, team spirit thing not showing up there. Although, I do love what he does...my cousin worked for iceland air...lol..Croat. So, I almost feel like I'm talkin' about family when I talk about some of these foreigners. Specially, Toby...he looks like my nephew...who IS hot, by the way....but, rock star? hmmmm...dunno.

Storm - should I even make a catty comment? She'll do anything for "it", not sure that means being an artist...but, she wants to be madonna...quite obvious. who would want to be madonna... ?? That red dress looked like she just came out of a cocktail party...yuk.

Ryan *-- like the name, but I am thinking more of a solo artist, too. Like...that magraw kid? saw him when he just came out in brookleen...Ryan reminds me of him...he's doing well now, (go chariot guy)
Love the piano mozart thing...but, it was overkill with the outfit...didn't go... though...right...perhaps give Mr. Davis a call...I'm sure he may like you. Billy Joelish...

Dilana - reminded me of a fiona apple, and what's her face...the chick that sings angry shit about men...what's her name....hmmm...u know...uhm...I think she's under maverick label?

Just adding my dance hall - 2 cents worth. Takes alot for a club queen to sit through this stuff....lol.

with the utmost respect, ofcourse.

I love your new CD. It is awesome. What perfect synergy lukas has w/ Supernova. Lukas also looks great standing w/ the band. They just fit. The new supernova track was killer and lukas killed it.

Posted by: angeloflukas at August 30, 2006 08:24 PM

Crappy show performance wise (although I loved Lukas) but a fun show because the used car salesman just had to go....
Dilana and Ryan both sucked tonight...

Lukas seems to be growing as a person...I just love his attitude. He seems to be truly competing only with himself and I like that.

Posted by: layne at August 30, 2006 08:26 PM

I thought Lukas was talented before but a friend of mine showed me this web site featuring our own Canadian Mr. Lukas Rossi with his band Rise Electric and OH MY LORD CAN THE BOY SING!!! I think every Lukas fan should check it out also check out this other spot www.myspace.com/riseelectricmusic. Love the song "Lonely Ones" on there.

I forgot .. you looked hot tonight. AGAIN

Posted by: angeloflukas at August 30, 2006 08:27 PM

Lukas needs to stop "Acting" like he gives a damn about Dilana! He is so fake. Everyone on the show so far has gotten a spanking and Dilana handeled it with the most couth and class. She admitted to her mistakes and appologized. Lukas can't sing his words clearly and is pathetic. When Dilana sings she is clear, tight, hits EVERY NOTE, even in the screaming and jumping! Anyone out there remember Janis or Tina? Dilana IS the next rock n roll female of our future- with or without SN. I am 55 years old and I went to the original "WOODSTOCK" in 1969 as well as the 25th anniversary "WOODSTOCK" in 1994. Been a hard rock fan sinse 1969 attending over 200 rock concerts. Dilana will be on top with the rest of our female rockers of all time.

Great performance

Posted by: lola at August 30, 2006 08:31 PM

Ha Ha Ha.Man that has to be the worst versions of Baba O'Riley ever done in the history of rock and roll.I've seen garage bands do it MUCH better than that.Funny how no one mentioned during the whole season of the show that RYAN CAN'T SING A LICK.Hence the patented jumping off stuff move.

Storm was pretty crappy and Dilana was worse.WOW!

Lukas was a complete rockstar don't know if I dug the song much but the dude brought it in spades.

Posted by: KeithMoonLives at August 30, 2006 08:33 PM

That new song had a good hook, but you couldn't understand a word Lukas sang.

Saw the spoiler. I'm not surprised. He was still green, pulling out the "Rock Star 101" poses. Props that he he tried to grow out of that, but it wasn't for the song...it was for the show.

Toby's performance was good, but I hate that song. I didn't get Dilana's song. Lukas was great on "Lithium" and Storm did a clean, solid, but careful rendition. She's awesome, you guys aren't giving her credit for what she pulls off every week.

But Magni's performance of that Live song was incredible. That song demands power and he delivered 100%.

I haven't seen the final three performances tonight, though, so no comments.

But dude, Storm deserves credit.

The new SN song was not great. Lukas was not bad but he sure made the old guys look... old, very, very old. It felt weird and not right.

They should go with Toby. They look and sound the best together.

Posted by: Prefs at August 30, 2006 08:35 PM

That performance with Lukas stole the show, that was absolutely killer! I loved it. He really has a way to inject energy and passion into a song. The vocals were great and he looked absolutely stunning fronting Supernova. He looked every inch the rockstar, sexy, gorgeous, vibrating with energy. Stagecraft wise, no-one tops him. He's so dammed believable in this very contrived world.

Loved the SN song tonight. So far out of the three songs of SN this was my favorite. Lukas looks great with the band and they fit well together. Both Toby and Dilana did well with their SN song - but Lukas crushed it. He is my pick to front the band. Take care

Posted by: Danni from ND at August 30, 2006 08:37 PM

Now, this may sound messed up. But when Lukas played with the band, he didn't look like part of the band. He rocked, I don't want to say he stood out, but I thought of him being so powerfull that the band would sort of wash him out. It was like he didn't want to share the spotlight or something like that to me. I can't put my finger on it. Dilana, and Toby did a better job of being with the band with out blending in. I can't wait to see who they pick next week to sing!!

Posted by: Char at August 30, 2006 08:39 PM

Hey Grandpa Starla, it's way past your bedtime. You sound tired.

"Dilana IS the next rock n roll female of our future"

"Dilana will be on top with the rest of our female rockers of all time"

Whoa!

And I thought that Dave was a bit overoptimistic when he said that Dilana's performance was the best of RS's two seasons...

Please take your medication before you go to sleep.

I just have to say one thing to you Dave - but you can't tell a single soul, okay? I think if Ryan had toned down tonight's performance just a bit, he would've been kept and Storm would've been sent packing. It was just too over the top. Gilby's expression when Ryan was on top of the speakers totally confirmed he was going home.

Posted by: Liz at August 30, 2006 08:40 PM

"Gilby's expression when Ryan was on top of the speakers totally confirmed he was going home."

Yup! That's what I saw...the look kind of took the wind out of the T.V. performance/expectation.

Dave, I fully believe that you are telling us the truth, as you know it. I'm not particularly into 'conspiracy theories'......but....the way all you guys fawn all over Lukas, it's SO obvious he'll be chosen and the spoiler (from Janet Charleton) will hold true.

The fact that Magni, Toby and Dilana have even been to the bottom 3, and Lukas has not, is a testament to one of two things;
a) The fact that the viewers cannot be trusted or
b) The results are rigged in favour of Tommy's paramour, Lukas.

Sorry, but I don't believe for a second that they would ever entertain the idea of a woman fronting them. Even a superstar like Dilana. These guys want to party with a guy, be raunchy and hang out with their collective groupies.

The reason I've come to this conclusion is simple; Lukas just isn't that good......He's ok, but not on the same level as Magni or Dilana. Every song he sings sounds the same, and he has zero stage presence....simply ends up pacing the stage and I find it uncomfortable. Not to mention I could not make out the words to the new SN song.

Everytime you drool over his same-old, same-old performances, I swear to Goddess I feel like I'm living in a bizarro world.

Let me be clear - this is not hate. It's simply a clear observation of repeated lacklustre performances.

....and I say this as a Canadian. No bias whatsoever.

Posted by: Holly'smom at August 30, 2006 08:48 PM

Wow, it was a perfect night. Dilana sucked so badly that there was no excuses. Ryan sucked so badly that he got sent home to squint in his own mirror, and Storm, well, she's hotter than a jalapeno lodged inside a Rosie O'Donnell fat roll. Lukas was GREAT with supernova! Toby was GREAT on his encore! It's definitely down to Lukas, Toby, Magni. I'll be happy with either Lukas or Toby leading supernova as long as Magni gets to front the House Band.

Rise Electric is indeed good, good stuff for the ones of y'all who haven't discovered it.

And I couldn't understand the words to the Lukas-Supernova song either until I played the song back a second time. It's understandable if you're listening close enough. Talks about someone running into the dark and hiding but there's a little light still shining and guiding them back home. Pretty cool.

I'm ganna go become a Lukas fan, now...just discovered this "groupie" thing...might be fun.

heading over to his site.

He's funny. We could learn alot from the way he handles women...lol. "People"...really cool.

Dilana can sing...but I still don't think she's going to win. Now she could do a solo career or make a singing name for herself, much like Janis Joplin. That's an unattractive girl who can sing.

Hey Dave,

Good decision letting Ryan go. He was just trying too hard and had no stage presence. Im a true Dilana fan....but what the hell was that tonight? Was it straight Tequila in that wine bottle cause she sounded wacked! Im certain she will get back on track next Tuesday......Im hoping. I just love her!

Peace Dave!

That was just the sexiest thing I've seen yet. Supernova with Lukas Rossi. That was amazing! I LOVED the song and Lukas's delivery of it. Amazing energy, amazing connection, great vocals, he always mixes up the vocal delivery, excellent job!
I'm convinced I tell you, convinced! He is so current, he rocked that song and made me love it and I'm a diehard Cleavage/Rise Electric fan who wasn't convinced he would be able to do much with songs that are already pre-arranged and pre-written. I'm a lover of Lukas's own music but I KNOW NOW I can also love Supernova with Lukas singing. Check please!

Are you the official spokesperson for RS?

I think there should be a time limited on RS: SN chat with SRL for sure. We are missing out on a whole shit load of other VERY important topics. TPC would be one, fuck man you worked your ass off. I feel we need to limit our SN chat. Plus people want to talk about something different.

What do you guys think?

Posted by: danikah at August 30, 2006 08:57 PM

Just reading the post about "strategic voting" Guess I don't get that. Why not just send all the votes you make to the person you want to win?

Every vote you make to someone in order to get another one out takes away a vote for the person you really want??

Don't know about all you folks that are probably way younger than I, but I have a hard enough time with the 8 character code you have to put in everytime. LOL Even with trifocals those wavy lines sometimes look like l's or i's and C's look like o's. I end up with a lot of do over's just voting for Dilana.

Supernovae occur when a huge, mature star effectively runs out of fuel and collapses in on itself.

I thought Dilana should have been the one to go. The Beatle song was weak! It was so weak I turned the channel to catch the Dodgers game.

Coming back to RS:SN I see Ryan get the boot. Well, one thing is true...he did grow the most. I think his early performances cost him. Too little too late. Plus some of the later performances were kind of forced. Good but forced. That piano number he did yesterday was pretty good to me but it showed his true style...he needs to a bit more "restraint" than what SN is looking for to be effective in his style.

Frankly, I don't think Supernova is gonna find their lead singer in this contest. I'm not sure Supernova has found themselves as a band yet based on the three songs we've heard, but maybe that's because they keep switching singers.

Loved that curve from Dilana, though I really want to give her a cup of hot tea before she sings. Didn't it seem that she was channeling Zayra a little tonight?

And you KNOW Zayra's coming back on that viewer pick.

DAVE, HAVE ZAYRA DO PSYCHO KILLER!

Posted by: John at August 30, 2006 09:09 PM

There wasn't any talk after the number, but I thouhgt that was the best Supernova track so far. And though he hasn't been my first choice, Lukas seemed to fit well with Supernova.

Posted by: johnboyw at August 30, 2006 09:09 PM

Danikah, I think Dave tries to do his best. There are many questions about RS. Just trying to explaine the issues. I'm cool with it!:)

Posted by: Danni from ND at August 30, 2006 09:10 PM

Supernova made a huge mistake. There are no singers left that are unique except for Lukas, and you can't understand half of his lyrics on any song. Dilana sounds like Sass Jordan, and the rest of 'em sound like average singers of the past as well. Storm can be entertaining, but she would probably go solo after the first album. If Ryan can use the momentum right, he will sell more records than SN.

Posted by: Vegas28 at August 30, 2006 09:11 PM

Hey Dave! Good to see Ryan go home. I'm sure my mom will be right there with you! She is secretly hoping for either Magni or Toby. She also hopes for Storm as she is afraid of what crap Dilana can bring to the band. She likes her voice and her spirit but she also knows where she comes from and knows it can and will cause more trouble then enough. ok. my mom wasn't so nice with the words.
Anyway, my mom comes home from the hosptial they hope monday. And I am back to school Tuesday. I hope she comes home then. I sure miss her. Well, I just wanted to say great show and that my mom has a crush on you and she adores (blah her words) Jason's playing. I guess she was a huge Matelica fan. It was between him and ozzy. At least that is what she is always saying. Well, have a great nite and bye bye.

Posted by: Jessi at August 30, 2006 09:13 PM

Although Ryan is very talented, I must agree that his style doesn't really fit the band. But Ryan has more Supernova potential than Storm and she really should have been the one to go home.

Posted by: amanda at August 30, 2006 09:16 PM

Ryan would have been a REAL front man...steeling the thunder from Gilby & Jason, and maybe even some from Tommy. Egos prevented them from choosing the best frontman - Ryan Star.

Posted by: Vegas28 at August 30, 2006 09:16 PM

pet ophilia "FUCK you have shitty taste- I never would have guessed. Bauhaus...Trent Reznor...Ryan Star???"

FIRST: When was Ryan Star compared to Reznor? And the way you throw Bauhaus in the mix. Thats odd, could it have to do with the last nails tour? Ryan Star isint going to stand up very tall in that fucking talent pool buddy.

SECOND: As for the no taste bit, I liked Ryan, the guy has more talent then serving coffee at Starbucks.

THIRD: What do you do?

O'DARK ONE..please answer a question..why do you not care for Magni? I fell in love with Magni's music and voice the first time I heard it. I've been singing "Hvar sen eg fer, Hvert sem pu leidir mig" for a month...in Icelandic..and I'm from Chicago!(yep..it took more than a few minutes to learn the lyrics)Someone finally translated them for me tonight on the message board...he has great fans..

WTF?!?!?! I must admit that I am in shock about the result this evening? What the hell were they thinking? Granted the performance was exactly the greatest that I've seen (in fact, I thought that Dana did a better job with the song a few weeks ago) but I think that it was Storm's time to go. Don't get me wrong, I think that the girl is completely kick ass awesome (I even voted for her. Only personal loathing of Coldplay prevented me from voting for Ryan) but in terms of SN -- Ryan is a better fit than Storm. As for Dilana -- only her offstage drama landed her in the bottom three. She killed on Mother Mother.
Didn't really enjoy the SN song tonight. But I'm not really a Lukas fan. His voice is incredibly weak and only his attitude has gotten him this far. A cheap ripoff of last years winner JD Fortune. And I'm Canadian.

Posted by: krista at August 30, 2006 09:24 PM

Just listen to the SN song again. It is soo much clearer the second time around. I just think anytime you hear a song for the first time there are going to be words that you stand back and say "what was that" when you hear it again then you realize what the words were. Lukas kicked it tonight. Two thumbs up to SuperNova and Lukas. And Dave I just have to say that you are the best host that I've ever seen. You tell it like it is...very little sugar coating going on.

Posted by: dee at August 30, 2006 09:26 PM

Thoughts on why SN chose Ryan to go:

1. He made their future frontwoman Dilana look bad.
2. They were intimidated with his original song Back of Your Car
3. They're still waiting for Storm to run around the pool naked.

Posted by: dom at August 30, 2006 09:27 PM

Dilana sucked tonight. If it was based on tonight's performance she would be heading back to Houston. Being a creative artist is based solely on making decisions regarding taste whether something is cool or not and Dilana is consistently not cool.

Liked the new Supernova track better than the other two but didn't like Lukas singing on it. He didn't fit well.

Toby keeps getting better dude. I used to hate him and think he was obnoxious, not anymore.

Storm and Ryan both tried WAY too hard tonight. Storm was tolerable, Ryan just sucked.

Way to go Magni. He's doing something right. Maybe the best singer will win?!

Wow, I can't believe Dilana was in the bottom three. I hope Supernova isn't as hypersensitive as the fans, because they'd be nuts not to choose her - she's got a killer voice, and stage presence none of the others can compete with. I was completely unimpressed by Lukas fronting Supernova tonight - his voice just doesn't fit with their sound. I too was surprised not to see Storm go, but neither she nor Ryan is going to front the band, so maybe they had some random reason for letting him go first. Whatever, at this point I think the fan votes are almost irrelevant - the decision is in Supernova's hands at this point, regardless of who's in the bottom three.

Thanks again for the posts Dave - always cool to hear what you're thinking.

Agreed!, tonight for sure...altho I do think Lukas is going win this. Didn't care for the SN tune... nothing happening there.

Does anyone really see a woman fronting this band? I see a woman maybe under them or behind them, sorry to be sexist..but, do ya think these guys will put up with a Dilana (thinking Storm and friend(s)will go next week in a double/triple elimination) and bill it as "Dilana and SuperNova", they weren't looking too impressed tonight with her.

Posted by: vicki at August 30, 2006 09:34 PM

Hi Dave, what a RockStar show tonight!

Finally Supernova has a song that is worthy to put in an album! Lukas looked alright up there with them.
Ryan definitely went too far with the stage antics and looked desperate, good choice to go.
Storm wasn't bad tonight, though I was expecting more from her.
Dilana, where do I start??
Dedicating a performance to yourself and then sucking big time ... she was terrible. Last night you said she was the best in the 2 yrs of RockStar, and tonight you should admit that was one of the worst.
The job is officially between Toby, Lukas, & Magni.

You should take a listen to Juke Kartel (Toby's band) as they sound similar to yours, (TPC) ... really good!
And your radio station is awesome! Dare I ask how much music do you have in your collection? Do you have to pay any royalties for the songs you play?
Cheers!

Agreed that Lukas is no Sinatra but he isn't trying to be. It was definitely the best SN track so far.

I thought Storm was pretty good either a little more or a lot less asscrack would have worked. TLee may disagree.

Psycho Killer. Tough song to pull off, there must be a reason nobody covers it. Poor choice by Dilana maybe she should have left the horns on.

Already posted my thoughts on Ryan.

I figure Storm will go next week but the thing is, I hope she gets the chance to rock an original or (gets her wish) a chance to play with SN.

Still a Lukas fan , warming to Toby and have always loved Magni because he is humble and solid and like the best friend we all adore. But his voice may be a bit more grunge than rock.

Anyway - we'll all miss see you up there when SN ends. See you on tour with TPC...

So I made a special trip tonight out here somewhere in the valley to post about the show.... I have to say that I was a Ryan fan and still am, but something about him lately, no make that something about the "others," made me not pull for him so much as of late. I have to say that MAGNI IS A THIEF! You haven't heard? Well, he just stole my heart last night with his comments on why we should we pick him and not the others. And Toby? Damn his sexy little bod and antics have really gotten my ears to perk right up to attention. I have to say that vocally Ryan just hasn't been my fav lately either. I am however really dig'n Toby, Storm, and Magni's vocals. That's about it. Damn this is so much easier to do than from my freakn don't call it a phone device!! Oh, the good news for me is that with a little severance, I am going to get a new laptop in the coming week! As our beloved would say, "Awwwww hell yeah!!!" I kinda am secretly wishing that the boys will choose both a dude, (Magni OR Toby) and Storm~~~~~~~~~~~~ That would be $$fucking outrageous.
peace.

ps. did anyone else hear the awesome coup d't. with T.K. and Morningwood tonight on indie? sounds like i'm not the only one hate'n on my bank job....oh, make that my old job.
out here we call those survival jobs, anyway.

Hi Dave. Despite his enormous talent, I understand why Ryan had to ultimately go, but he was sent away so unfairly...kicked in the groin was how he must have felt, especially when the first vocalist spoken to has always been the 'safe' one. I don't understand the Dilana thing, either. I thought she was dreadful tonight, and I certainly would not have called her performance this week the "best" in two years. I loved her in the beginning, but she has become pedestrian (admittedly, her behaviour hasn't helped). My vote is for Lukas, who grows on me more every week. I think some of SN's choices are making them quickly less credible. Anyway, that's my two and a half cents. Good night. Gwinnie

Funny that after a solid show on Tuesday, with great performances by everyone, we get a B3 that gives such a boring show.

Ryan overdid it vocally and physically (to the point that I was not confortable watching him on TV), Storm sang like she had already packed her things (no range, not as much energy as usual), and Dilana showed all her flaws as a performer (limited range, "overacting" songs, and more of "since I don't know how to stand onstage, I might as well just act crazy for a few seconds"). To me, the fact that she chose 'Psycho Killer' to "fit her situation" just shows that she's the one that wants to keep the whole DilanaGate going. So people, stop blaming Mark Burnett or Dave or whoever else produces the show...

Anyways, at this point of the contest, I'm just surprised that the B3 was so lacklustre tonight. Even Lukas was just OK with OrdinaryNova (not getting better). Someone needs to tell Lukas (and Toby) that potatoes are optional: if they remove the potatoe from their mouth before they start signing, we might eventually get to hear and understand what they're signing about. That's two weeks in a row that we can't hear the lyrics to the SN song (I'm sure they were forgettable, but you get the point). At least last week, we got to hear "Hey hey hey" and "Ho ho ho" (unless that was "Hoe hoe hoe" - I'm sure TLee would like that!)

God, I wish I could be more optimistic, but overall, this was a very bad show. The faces of the guys in the band and the remaining contestants said it all.

Let's just hope that next Tuesday will be as good as yesterday. Bummer.

Hey Dave. :-) Hope you’re having an excellent night. :-) I thought you would need to strap yourself in and don a crash helmet for your blog, tonight. ^^ But, *most* people are being extremely civilized and rational. What an unexpected treat. LOL I hope folks continue in that vein… :-) If Lukas Rossi had been named as the lead singer of “Supernova tonight, I would have been in the stores, tomorrow, to pre-order the CD. Lord in Heaven, that lad hit some soaring notes. He is absolutely exquisite. I want to hear that song, again, and just savour his vocals on it. Lukas is a great fit with the band and increases their coolness ratio exponentially just by sharing the same stage with them. LOL I won’t comment on elimination performances except to say the following two things: at least Storm picked up partway through “Helter Skelter. And, as for Dilana, it exactly fits with her personality that she dedicated that song not to the fans or anyone else but to *herself.* ^^ Let’s bid farewell to the Dark Horse as he gallops off into the distance. I was a bit incredulous the voting fiasco wasn’t mentioned at all. But considering everything else that’s been censored, suppressed, spun or edited out on the show, maybe it’s not that surprising. LOL ;-) Ah, I missed the live SRL talk about the show. Sorry, I was busy being completely enthralled by Lukas. Isn’t that one of the sins a person *can* get pardoned for? LOL ;-) You looked awesome tonight, dude, as always. Two more weeks of “RS:SN left and then we’ll have to find some new mischief and musical insanity to delve into… such as, oh, say a live TPC performance, perhaps? ^^ LOL ;-)

I've been think of how to say this about Lukas. I know he's good but, to me, it sounds like he dragging his voice or something...or maybe slurring it on purpose...like it's cool. Kind of like what Britney Spears does with her voice. How do I know about Spears? My nieces...LOL!

Anyway if he continues to do that...it might be his downfall.

Is that it sounds the same but you can tell she's trying to sound good but it doesn't after doing it song after song. I'm not saying Lukas sounds like Spears. Their approach to a song is the same. Again, Lukas has this slur or mumble to the way he sings. It works on maybe one or two songs but not on everyone.

I think it's a good thing, for Ryan sake, that the plug was pulled on him tonight. But I say that in a good way.

I was starting to get worried that during one of his stunts, he'd either fall and literally break a leg or his neck, or hurt someone in the band with the swinging mic, or give one of the fans a concussion with the guitar throwing.

I prefered Ryan the way he was at the beginning of the competition-playing the piano with pure, strong, emotional vocals without all the gimics - Those were his sweet spot performances.
He has a strong fanbase now. Wishing him well!

Last nite I was up voting for hours with the rest of Lukas's fans. We were scared shitless when we saw he was in the bottom - voted HARD.
Just as stunned tonight to see Dilana there! Very awkward watching her try and redeem herself. It reminded me of a moth trapped in a lampshade fluttering crazily to get out. All over the place! Not sure its cool to dedicate a song called Psycho Killer to yourself. Not sure any song should be dedicated to oneself, but particularly not that one, lol!
Lukas, please lock your bedroom door tonite!!!

Hi Dave! You looked awesome as usual on SN tonight!

Unfortunately Ryan ultimately had the same problem that Mig had last year on RS: INXS. He's just too damn talented for the band. It's been obvious to me over the past several weeks that SN isn't going to pick a lead singer based on vocal talent, overall musical talent, or songwriting skills. They are only concerned with a certain "look" which means they'll choose one of the two least talented (vocally) of the remaining rockers: Lukas or Dilana. If they wanted to go for true talent they would pick Magni (or would've choose Ryan). I like Toby too and think he has an outside chance. Storm is good but definitely not for the band and should have went home tonight.
I honestly thought the show sucked tonight. The only good performance was Toby's encore. Lukas was the worst yet of the three who have fronted SN. Storm, Dilana, and even Ryan were nothing more than mediocre either.
At this point, I'm hoping that SN picks Dilana or Lukas so that I won't have to waste my money buying their album or going to one of their concerts. The only rocker that's left that could get me to buy the SN album would be Magni. After watching the whole season I can honestly say that I will be a fan of Ryan Star and of Magni for life, regardless of what happens with SN!
Cheers!

Joanna,

"I prefered Ryan the way he was at the beginning of the competition-playing the piano with pure, strong, emotional vocals without all the gimics - Those were his sweet spot performances."

Exactly why he got the boot. He was performing well as of late, but he was pretending. Those early shows was the real Ryan. He wasn't right for the band and SN actually did him a favor by letting him go.

The SN track tonight was ok, but the band needs to visit Lukas' hairdresser and change up their wardrobe a bit....
Lukas' voice has improved a lot since the beginning of the show, and the second time I listened to the song i heard all the lyrics...not a problem
and lukas looked amazing tonight...true rock star, no wonder Toby is adopting some of lukas' style (check out the guy liner tonight, and the hair, and the moves...)

Dave,

You are awesome dude!

Thanks for reading all these posts.

Now, what I really don't get is SN songs aren't that good and Gilby is going to give the contestants a songwriting clinc?

I think Gilby should be the student. Have you heard Lukas' original material? He should be teaching the class!

Are these guys clueless or what?

Posted by: Mike at August 30, 2006 10:25 PM

I ordered Ryan's CD. Listened to a couple of tracks, compared them to the cheese SN has shown the last three weeks, and now I feel lots better. Ryan has enough talent to do anything he wants to do on his own. I'll sure miss him these next few weeks though.

Dave, I finally listened to some Panic Channel songs, and I loved them! My 12 year old daughter came in when I was listening and said, "I could have told you a long time ago they were great." You're multi-generationally (is that a word?)satisfying!

Danni

Thanks for naming that Jane's Addiction song in that tire commercial. I knew that was Perry's voice, and it's been driving me crazy to know what it was. On that subject, I heard "Dogstar" by Perry's band The Satellite Party. WOW. It's unbelievable. Very electronic, dancey, and progressive.

Back to RS, I still feel some sexist bullshit going on from T-Lee, like when he said last night that he and Toby could take the girls he pulled up on stage back to the dressing room. And then his comment to Storm last week that he wished she was wearing less clothing, and then tonight she was in his lap, and she had to keep pulling up her pants during her performance. Storm should have gone tonight, not Ryan, even though I agree Ryan and Dilana tried too hard during elimination and it didn't work. But it makes me wonder why Storm is still there..... does it have something to do with T-Lee's interest in her? And do these sexist kind of comments shed any light on the possibility of a female actually making it into the band? Comments like that sure make it look like they are not even considering a female to front the band.

Regardless of who they chose, I haven't liked any of the Supernova songs.

Ok, I'm checking out Toby's band Juke Kartel. Yeah, alright, Dave I think you should check it out too.

"Now, what I really don't get is SN songs aren't that good and Gilby is going to give the contestants a songwriting clinc? I think Gilby should be the student."

Amen, brother!

Have you heard Gilby's solo stuff? Go on amazon.com and sample some of his albums. Very painful. Unoriginal, boring... dare I say insipid? Oops, I just did!

And some of the recordings sound like shit too, like they were recorded in a trash compactor.

I've said it before: let's hope that whoever they choose can bring them songwriting skills.

Dave loving the show, grat to hear ya here in Mexico =)

Posted by: JoS at August 30, 2006 10:39 PM

whoooo...people are getting nasty with only 2 weeks left to go! Then maybe we can put down the pepper spray. HA

I thought SN made the right choice tonight...but I would've booted both Ryan and Storm if I was making the call. Neither one of them is right for that band...end of story. I thought they were gonna get really crazy for a second there and eliminate all 3 of them! I should've known though...they love Dilana...she'll be in the finals no doubt. Right along side Lukas and Magni (if they do a triple finale show.)

Love you Dave and 67 Fam! ~Amber

IMO- SN & Lukas sounded great together !

And I really liked the sound of that SN track.

Lukas brought the vocals and performance that really worked in bringing out the vibe/energy of that SN track.
He did it justice. It worked! And sounded great!

(I think that SN track is going to be one of the favourites/first single, when they release the album).

Well, Davey-Boy,

What did I say the other day? Oh yeah, the 'dark horse' (in my opinion) is Stormy! She is pretty good, but no where near Lukas and Magni. Still don't get the Toby thing - it's not that he's bad, he's just not as exciting or interesting to watch/listen to. And Dilana... I think I'm done with her. She was trying way too hard on a very groovy song that really needed less. The original is so cool and laid back that she almost ruined it pour moi.

Glad y'all had a good time in TO. Let us know when you're coming back to Canada- maybe head west to Cowtown!

Cheers

Grammar tip for the day~~~~~~~~ When do I use whom and when do I use who?
Easy. Just substitute the word him or her in your sentence that you are writing. Example: Who shall I pick? Well, he and she would equal who, thus no M's involved, understand? And him or her would be whom due to the ever present M.
Get it? Basically, whom=him and her
who =he or she.

That's my positive deed for the day.

im sure youve heard this a lot, but you probably dont tire of hearing.

im very impressed how youve patiently interacted with your fans. its weird with fans of RS, TPC, or former bands competing for attention.

im a fan of the show (and you as a host) more than your music (sorry dude, but ill give this new stuff a listen).

overall -- mad props for keeping an uodated blog !

Hell, I can write for SuperNova:

Check this out.

I wanna do go
but sometimes the circumstances just don't let me be nice.
I wanna be nice
But the pressure's too much from trying to do good.
And now I'm unemployed
and now goody-two shoes says:
Stay away from the evils of life.
Alcohol, herion, and cocaine.
He said,
alcohol, herion, and cocaine.
But I've got a quarter in my pocket if you know what I mean.
I looking into the future wondering how I'll ever be a profit, be a prophet.
I guess
Every man is on his own.
Every man is on his own.
Every man is on his own to make a home.
Every man is on his own.
But don't you dare talk to me about intergrity
when you got so much people living in poverty.
Every man is on his own.
Every man is on his own.
Every man is on his own to make a home.
Every man is on his own.
HONESTY!
It's a poor man's plea!

LOL!

Did I forget to mention that I'm a poet? LOL!

I have found that doing a search for the word "Panic" on your page gets me through the comments to the ones that I am actually interested in. I was intrigued by this comment in the EA Sports interview...
"it looks like we’ll be touring with a rock band that we’re fans of"
I won't even begin to imagine the possibilities, but I am hoping that you won't make us wait too long to find out!!

I think I might have liked the Supernova song--I liked the music--but I couldn't really understand half of the lyrics, the way Lukas sings. And I watched the Supernova performance twice. Lukas is definitely compelling (when he doesn't have his back to the audience), but I think the mush mouth thing is a big problem.

Posted by: Erik at August 30, 2006 11:00 PM

Oh, and I thought the right choice was made tonight. As soon as Ryan climbed up on those speakers, I said: "He has to go home." He was starting to depend on stage antics that were fresh the first time, but the got gimmicky real quick. I wanted to see him planted, just delivering the hell out of a song. Which is what we've seen from Dilana several times. She can DELIVER THE HELL OUT OF A SONG.

And Stormy, I really thought tonight would be the night for her to go, but thank goodness she didn't because she rocked Helter Skeltor!

hello dave---

i would like to see if you can get an answer re:

I saw the that the keyboard player from the House band was playing and singing along with SN and Lucas--

if you can review the song again---look over jason's shoulder-----t lee's drums and drumming is awesome----

[ yet his triplet fill--snare to tom tom to floor tom) the sound was not there --the snare was great then ????????????????????--nothing]---?????????????????

it was another great show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i want you and SN to know that these comments occur after every show----every SN song that is performed ---see the few listed that ----

i found these posted on the msn boards---- tonight !!! (i dont know if you or SN is aware of this)--

these following posts / notes :

"1- at the beginning you hear lucas singing - but lo and behold his mouth wasn't moving yet...

it WAS RECORDED

so t lee is not that powerful a drummer if he has to use backing tracks on drums - its called "faking it"

metallica used to have session playrs under the stage working for minimum wage while the audience thot they were so kick azz too - fakers"

2-"Tommy Lee always has backing vocal tracks, sound efx, extra guitar parts, in Motley Crue they use it, to keep time and to sound good.. but more importantly to fill in the sound. For example watch Dr. Feelgood live .. micks guitar parts and the main chorus vocals.

I heard the back up guitar part on Supernova's song tonight.. unless someone was playing it off stage. Every major performer has backing tracks..it's just the nature of the biz... otherwise it would sound a bit empty.

They are probably doing it until they get another guitar player..or if they don't they will continue using them... Back up vocals will always be there.. for the tour as well."

3--

"Oh honestly, is anyone surprised that it was recorded? Considering the amount of work that goes into making something stage-worthy, I expect that it is done ahead of time and , like sooo much else of this show, edited to reveal only what the producers want to show."

4
" "They were probably playing it live but a recording was dubbed over it.
I think that if F-ed up.
How are we at home supposed to make a real opinion when we don't get to hear the live performance?
Is it because SN or Lukas sucked?"

5

YES that is the word i was looking for - it was DUBBED- that is equivalent to lip synching...

yes is the House band Keyboard player in Supernova?

wow are they hypocrites"

end of the msn notes

that is what is written by certain viewers

since you are all the "power" on the show
can you shed any light on the how the songs are done for the show for us to hear ??????

keep rockin'

peace

Hey Mr. Navarro! I enjoyed listening to your show tonight, you are a very amusing fellow. Too bad you decided to go have dinner just before we got your views of Dilana's bottom three performance. Oh well, I a cranky person by nature and therefore not inclined to like anything Dilana does anyway. (her version of "Psycho Killer" was just brutal)

I've got to say that you get an interesting mix of listeners and tonight was no exception. I don't know which was more disturbing though, the listener who wondered if you would do Dilana or the thought of you actually watching the Titanic. You know, that is the first movie I've seen where I wanted everyone to die and the boat to make it.

Keep up the good work. Two more weeks and no more Davey on my TV twice weekly. C'est domage.

I do have a quick question. Brookie said at the end of the show that we could vote one rocker back on the show for the finale. Does that mean there will be 5 in the elimination or is the one voted back on just a special guest star? And I'm hoping before the end of the show that we get to hear you adding some guitar muscle to a Supernova song or two.

PS: I really did like the song tonight. It was so much better than the previous two. And I'm looking forward to the songwriting clinic. Are we to assume there will be no Stop/Go Part II?

Hi from New Zealand, We are first time voters on the Rockstar show, and part of me does wonder if our votes count or not, we view the first show on a Wednesday night and the results show is on a Thursday, we have until 12.30am to register our votes via text message or online. The feeling over here about who should go was that it was the end for Storm...can't believe that it was Ryan. I wonder if Dilana was in the bottom 3 because of the set up that happened, and that's what's being said here too on the local radio stations.

My final 3 pick is Lukas, Magni, Dilana

Posted by: Mel at August 30, 2006 11:37 PM

Just a couple of comments here. Was it just the TV feed or does Lukas always sound like he's singing "Marlon Brando does Don Corleone?" He may be somewhat charismatic on-stage (except when he continually turns his back to the viewers), but for heaven's sake, please ask him to remove the cotton from his mouth before he sings! I've *yet* to hear him sing anything in this competition that I've been able to understand all the words--something I personally find particularly annoying. Kinda like CCR's "Bad Moon Rising" or whatever it's called. I used to think it was me, until I heard a big-city DJ say that for years he thought John Fogerty was saying "There's a bathroom on the right"!!! LOL (Come to think of it, Lukas *does* look a bit like a very young Brando.)

One other personal opinion--(Hell yeah, I know, they're just like a**holes; everybody's got one): whoever SN ends up choosing had best be good on the guitar; one lead and a bass just doesn't seem to cut it--they sound a sorta thin. I'm not saying Gilby's terrible, but Dave, admit it, they need more OOMPH or something, not just a front vocal person. You could definitely show them a thing or six! I'm not totally sold on SN yet, guess I'll have to wait til the cd is out and listen to a couple of cuts. Do love the show, though--you make it all worthwhile.

Keep on rockin, Dave. I may be over the hill, but I still think you are HAWWWWT!!

I'm kind of disappointed with the outcome of the elimination. But all i can say is, i loved the look jason newsted gave those people who booed what he said about storm in the performance show. Whether it was edited like that or whatever... fucking hilarious!!

Posted by: zoezee at August 30, 2006 11:49 PM

Bummed that Ryan hit the road. I don't think Storm OR Ryan would have been picked to front SN. However..................I feel bad for him because he's really given us his heart and soul trying to grow and prove that he could do the job.

I would have liked to have seen more of him. Seeing Storm again well....is like seeing Storm again. I'm indifferent to it. At least ya weren't sure what you'd get with Ryan.

And from my point of perception, it didn't really seem like Tommy wanted him gone quite yet. I really liked Ryan's comments to SN. Good for him making his point in a very diplomatic way.
Totally bummed I missed the SRL show. I'll be looking for ya!

I don't really agree with the person who said ryan won't be followed by the reality tv curse. Sure, those who left in the first 5 weeks may now suffer that curse, but ryan was in the last few weeks. AND he was fucking GOOD. I don't know why they axed him, but in regards to what you said about the being a winner of a reality show, I agree. I mean, no matter ho hard Kelly Clarkson tries to get away from the American Shithole title, she can't. The reason why she is there is because of that show.

Posted by: zoezee at August 30, 2006 11:58 PM

Tonight's show really sucked. The desperation is showing. Everyone tried too hard and the performances ended up being uncomfortable. Definitely agreed with the comments re Ryan and The Speakers. Found myself wondering if he'd get up there in time to hit his next mark. What on earth made him decide to start climbing on things? Once, okay. But enough is enough.

Posted by: mahogany at August 30, 2006 11:58 PM

Dave,
Always enjoying the show. I have been on Jury duty the entire week. I always think to do the right thing and use common sense. Life goes on.

Carly, sorry about the job. Better things are ahead for you. If the bf was flirting with you-it doesn't sound like a good situation. She probably was jealous. Maybe, threatened that you had the abilities to eventually take her job.
Best of luck.

Posted by: SidlineSid at August 30, 2006 11:58 PM

I am so happy Dilana didn't go home... I was a little worried there for a minute... because her performance wasn't that great..
and I agree with what some person said on here... Ryan on top of the speakers... just a tad too much... if it takes you that long to climb something during a song... then you probably shouldn't climb it..

Posted by: Marlena at August 31, 2006 12:22 AM

By the way.. thought Ryan's good bye speech was a little rude... why would he not thank SUPERNOVA for all the awesome opportunities to grow as a musician they have gave him? but no, instead he decided to use his time to say something like.. I think I could have been a great singer of your band for 20 years.. but ahwell.. you'll see me in the record charts or some shista like that.. give me a break.. but maybe they edited some part out of it? maybe.. maybe not.. but he came off as a bit of an arse to be quite honest.

Posted by: Marlena at August 31, 2006 12:32 AM

but I still liked a lot of Ryan's later performances... I just wish he would have left on a better note...

I need to complete my thoughts in one comment..
sorry..

Posted by: Marlena at August 31, 2006 12:34 AM

oh one more thing.. heh.. sorry..
I think everyone's getting to see Magni's great personality a bit more now, outside of his performances.. his funny comments... and just an overall great vibe from him have made me start liking him more.. Could it be the reason why he's getting more votes now... and suddenly went from bottom 3 for 2 weeks to number 1? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
I might just believe so.

Posted by: Marlena at August 31, 2006 12:39 AM

DAVE - Thanks for having a separate site outside of corporate.
...............

LUKAS would do well in a Smashing Pumpkins style band. Not sure he's the right fit for SN................

STORM has a beautiful soul. She is confident, funny, musical, and I am proud of her. I have to agree with another comment here about how can Storm have grown if no criticism/suggestions/advice have been given to her? Others have received such ideas to work on but perhaps Storm hasn't been given any advice yet to grow upon. She will do well wherever she lands in the industry. I wish her well.
..........................

RYAN - I was really starting to get into him. A little cocky perhaps but he'll do well.
.........................

TOBY - He sounds amazing with SN. He appears to be too much of a party boy/frat boy for SN but he sounds great with them. It just sounds right and not out of place when he played with SN.
.....................

DALANA (sp?) - Tough girl with some troubles inside - issues with her own mother apparantely. She's working on it. She sounded great with SN! Possibly too much drama for them at this point.
...............

MAGNI - He wants this but he also has a new family from out of the country. I personally could not choose him for my own band (if I were of SN caliber) knowing I would be pulling him away from his growing young family. Although, the money he would earn through SN would help with a growing young family. I know it's lame but he looks good with the band because he's tall. He looks and sings like a man and SN is a man's band....maybe.
..........................
JASON N. is taking this very seriously. He appears to be a quiet and introspective fellow. He watches and listens and thinks about what he's seen and heard before jumping to conclusions. I bet he was shy when he was a little toddler. I think it's awesome the amount of energy he appears to put into the workshops he has with the ROCKERS.
...............................
My husband got me addicted to this show and now I am obsessed with following all the details while trolling the internet late at night.
................................

ROCK ON!

DUDE, WTF??? The new supernova track sounds nice, but if they want to do a song in Icelandic, they should have chosen Magni to sing. Lukas should stick to doing english songs...

Posted by: Bomba at August 31, 2006 12:52 AM

tonights show was a statement, I hate to inform you all but each one of the performances told you something and that is the competion is over and all the contestants know it, pretty obvious that lukas already won! let me point out a few things, ryan's performance was a direct slap in the face, drinking on network tv is a fine, why did he do it? because the producers started a smear campain to anyony that was a treat to lukas winning! Dilana's performance was a dead give away did you notice the lukas move she kept on doing ....putting her back to the crowd...too funny! all i want to say is that these guy's and gals are too talented to get fucked over like that on national tv......you guys lost all your credibility......dave i hope you had nothing to do with this

Posted by: shawn c at August 31, 2006 12:55 AM

Good luck sorting through this many comments. I told my boss today (I always talk to her about pop culture shit) that you were the hardest working man in show business today. She thought you had to farm out the web site to others, but I told her I didn't know about that. You seemed pretty adamant about all your fan work. Whatever, kudos. As for the show tonight, the band did what they had to with the choices they had in the bottom 3. If it had been ryan, toby and magni, the vote might have went another way, but storm and dilana have good support. They picked the lesser of 3 evils. Plus, ryan would have been a bit too much of a control freak from what I've seen on the reality eps. Peace, and keep up the good work.

Dave,

I think you and Dilana should start a group. You guys are right for each other.

Magni is not my favorite performer, but you did interrupt him and you were rude to him and then acted like a pompous little kid. No wonder you like Dilana so much. Two peas in a pod.

Posted by: AriesRising at August 31, 2006 01:18 AM

Magni got bitchy...like he was talking to an uneducated fool instead of the executive producer of the show. Storm got away with her foul mouth towards Dave, lucky her, but not a male...no way. Way to go Dave. Check them or wreck them...it doesn't matter.

Love the show, admire SN, think you're lovely Dave, have to say this...
Lucas is interesting but not a good fit with SN
Storm is mega-unique but not a good fit with SN
Magni is talented, great vocals, too straight for SN
Toby is cute, great voice and turning out to be a great fit with SN (just enough of a bad boy image!)
Dilana is awesome, rocker chick Goddess, and I admire your guts standing up for her when there's a small vocal minority who diss her to death... and yes, she fits with SN. Hope they have the balls to recognise this over the MB reality crap of the last few weeks.

Posted by: Vicki at August 31, 2006 01:54 AM

Well, Dilana's 'Psycho Killer' was so bad I was wondering if she would be going. That wasn't nice to watch, it was like all her fire was gone. Quite liked the new SN track, I thought Lukas did a better performance with the SN guys than he does with the covers.

Just an add-on note to the above (about 1 or 2 up I posted a comment!).... the Rockstar Supernova WORLD tour is only around the US. As far as I'm aware there is a bigger world than the US borders. As a kiwi fan from NZ (small under-populated rather scenic collection of island in the South Pacific made famous by the Lord of the Rings movies), we'd kinda like to see SN here one day too. Please let the boys of SN know that the rest of the world (outside of the world of the US) would love a visit too!

WELL, I WILL SIMPLY SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT I REALLY THINK ABOUT THE REMAINING ROCKERS AFTER LISTENING TO THEM FOR 9 WEEK:

STORM:
NICE BODY GOOD FOR ENTERTAINING BUT I JUST DON'T THINK SHE CAN REALLY FIT THE BAND. HER VOICE AND HER STYLE IS JUST TOO WEAK TO FRONT THE BAND ALTHOUGH SHE LOOKS HOT

MAGNI:
HAVING CHANGED WEEK AFTER WEEK BUT STILL DOESN'T REALLY FIT THE BAND. HIS MUSIC IS DIFFERENT, IT'S GONNA BE EMBARRASING IF HE FRONTS SN

DILANA:
I USED TO HATE HER BUT NOW I THINK SHE'S OK. HOWEVER, SHE CAN NOT REALLY FRONT THE BAND. SHE IS JUST A NORMAL WOMAN AND SHE CAN BE EMBARRASED SOMETIMES . AND THAT'S JUST NOT GOOD FOR A ROCK BAND WHICH NEEDS A TRUE ROCK SINGER.

TOBY:

I THINK HE HAS TRIED HARD TO CHANGE HIMSELF BUT IT DOESN'T WORK TO ME. I FOUND HIS "REBEL YELL" PERFORMANCE WAS BORING AND NOT IMPRESSIVE COMPARING TO LUKAS'.AND THE WAY HE SANG WITH THOSE GIRLS JUMPING LIKE CRAZY AROUND WAS SO DISGUSTING. YOU GUYS MAY LIKE IT THE FIRST TIME BUT CAN YOU KEEP ON WATCHING THAT KIND OF PERFORMANCE? ABSOULUTELY NOT. I'M SURE HIS NEXT PERFORMANCE WON'T BE GOOD ENOUGH.

LUKAS:

WOW! WHAT CAN I SAY? HE'S MY FAVORITE FROM DAY 1 AND I'M A HUGE FAN OF HIM. SO OFCOURSE HE'S PERFECT TO ME. HE SINGS WELL, PERFORMS WELL. I'M REALLY GLAD TO SEE HIM INTERACTING WILL THE AUDIENCE MORE. THE WAY HE DRESSES UP THE WAY HE MOVES THE WAY HE SHARES HIS THOUGHTS, EVERY THING IS JUST PERFECT!!! I BELIEVE HE WILL BE A SUPER STAR NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES INCLUDING BEING A SUPER NOVA' FRONT MAN.

ALL I'M GONNA SAY IS::::::::::::: VOTE FOR LULAS!!!!!!! ALL LUKAS FANS VOTE HARD HARD NEXT TIME AND NEXT TIME!!!!GOD BLESS YOU, MY LUKAS!!!!!!!!

Posted by: haphuong at August 31, 2006 02:15 AM

the show....

I thought the bottom 3 really were horrid. Of the 3, Storm was the best. I have no clue what the other two were doing.

I loved the song & I loved Lukas doing the song. It reminded me of him in "Cleavage".

Now, this is just my opinion, but I feel as though a performance shouldn't have to be forced. When you are a great front, you don't have to resort to coming up w/ something exciting every song, because you are naturally exciting. You have "it" and don't need all the "tricks".

So, if these people need to jump in the audience, use mega-phones, put legs on shoulders, bring girls on stage, then, they are not ready to front this band. Sure it is fun and cute in the beginning, but in the end, that is all just smoke and mirrors and gets old really fast.

The one guy that has kept it real and not had to "perform" up there has been Lukas, because being him is enough.

thanks

xoxo

I have listened to the SN song at least 30 and I cant wait for the cd. That song was awesome. Lukas did an outstanding job. I love the song, lyrics are killer, and the whole feel of the song. Lukas, Gilby, Tommy, and Jason are look'n hot together. The band looks complete. VOTE LUKAS next week everyone.

I'm actually glad that Ryan left the show at this point. I've become a huge fan of The Dark Horse and his talent, and I think that he's really going to make it big, if he's only able to use the momentum that he's now got. The only thing that I'm wondering is WHY was he trying so hard to win, because there was such a big difference between his style&music and SN: depth, emotions, etc. In the end of the day, SN made the only decision they could, because with Ryan they would have to change their direction.
I was a bit sorry to see Ryan go for the circus tricks, as his performance on his own song and quite a few more showed that there's so much strength in his presence, the great songs and great vocals that he doesn't need the tricks. Let the talentless jump off the speakers, pull girls on stage and smash guitars, they need those antics more to make their performances memorable. His final performance actually sucked b/c he could've done it so much better _his_ way.
I don't think SN will survive any longer than the duration of one record and one world tour, unless someone from the remaining competitors miraculously starts showing incredible songwriting talent. I can't remember a single line or hook from the SN tracks played on the show this far which is pretty telling. SN guys are yesterday's heroes and so much involved in other stuff that whoever wins this competition may not actually win in the long run which is pretty sad.
I wish all the best in the world to you Dave and to all the great competitors: you rock!!!

Awesome SRL today, Dave. Really enjoyed it. I was wondering, seeing as we're the same age, whose music were you crazy about as a teenager? I can remember obsessing over Sex Pistols, New Order, Happy Mondays, Dead Kennedys etc etc. Man, the eighties...people hang shit on it, but some of it was fan-fucking-tastic.

I voted for Magni like a 1000 times. I don´t want him to win the show (Lukas all the way) but I think he deserved a sign of respect for his talents and character and I did not think he deserved to go home this week.
Next week I am back to voting for Lukas!

I think they based their decision on the performances during the elimination show. Ryan's voice was cracking as he did that song a few octaves higher than the range of his voice. He's good at belting ballads given the momentum, but he cannot keep up th high notes on that particular song.

I'm a Lukas fan after he sang the Supernova track. He's great!

From leperpop.blogspot.com:

"This is a set up for my other conspiracy theory (are you listening, Mr. Navarro), where, in a surprise twist, Suave Porn will choose none of the remaining rockers, and will declare Matt the winner, who coincidentally would have won the return to the show vote, and they will deem themselves The New Duran Duran. But John Entwistle will return from the grave to tell them that their plan will go over like a bag of assholes, which will inspire them to change the name of the band to A Bag of Assholes. They will take over the world of rock."

Is it just me that thinks that Lukas moves like Mick Jagger on stage?

YES! Love the comment about Pirates.....Go for it Dave...you have just the right amount of darkness to be a pirate...! I was surprised that Ryan went....Oh well wasn't meant to be..

Posted by: Kris at August 31, 2006 05:24 AM

Wow, that elimination show was a train wreck of performances. Dilana was crazier than David Byrne himself and that's almost impossible to do.
Ryan needs to go back behind the piano.
Storm is hot, nuff said.
Lukas and SN, holy crap take some speech lessons from Toby please. Why even have lyrics if we have to go find them online to appreciate the song.

Dave, keep rockin dude, would love to see TPC on the finale show!

Posted by: TPCfan at August 31, 2006 05:25 AM

Hi Dave! It was great listening to SRL last night right after the show! You even answered a couple of my questions which was very cool... the way you communicate with your fans is awesome.

I thought the new Supernova song was by far the best of the 3 songs we've heard. This one has real potential for commercial success! It's just a really good song and had more of a contemporary feel.

And my God Lukas looked GOOD with them! I had wondered about that, but they just gelled. The whole band looked more contemporary with him at the front....he was not overshadowed by them and led the band well on stage. He has really set the bar for the rest of the rockers. I can totally see him with this band, and, quite frankly, this is the only version of the band so far that I would pay to see.

I'm starting to think, that supernova might be looking in the direction of Toby or Magni....I think they may be keeping the girls around for show...to make the fans think that they are being fair and truly considering one or the other for the band.

Posted by: Tine at August 31, 2006 05:42 AM

Just to follow up on Allan Palmer's post on SN using backing tracks. It was completely obvious. If you can watch it again. watc Gilby at the beginning when the guitar starts...he's not playing! He only plays the super easy power chord rhythm and leave the melodic intro to someone off stage or a computer.

Have to say the only thing Gilby has impressed me with was the intro he played on "Won't get Fooled again", other than that his playing has been crap.

The shows fantastic though. Great job Executive Producer Dave.

Posted by: rob K at August 31, 2006 05:44 AM

Dave, gotta say last night was a very interesting show.
Ryan embarassed (so glad he's gone, that was excrutiating to watch)
Dilana exposed (she actually said her name in that song again, and dedicated it to HERSELF, psycho alright)
Lukas revealed (true frontman material, rockstar written all over him)

Dilana appeared to have not even practiced that song, being so overconfident that she would never need it, the panicked look on her face said it all. At least she could have showed some rockstar potential and killed the song, practiced or not, but that was truly sad. Where was the stagecraft, the killer delivery? So obvious now it's all contrived on her part. When put on the spot she just can't deliver.

Loved Lukas! he has taken us where no-one has taken us before...to that place where you think Supernova may turn out alright after all. The song was a little better but Lukas made it cool somehow.

I have to laugh when people make comments that Lukas has no stagecraft, can't sing, mouthful of marbles etc. What planet are these people on? or are they just so panicked for Dilana that they have to make up nonsense with the insane hope that someone might agree and change their minds about him. That is also truly sad and so narrow-minded. It doesn't even come across as credible when he so obviously has something, can definitely sing and in a very interesting way I might add, is enthralling on stage, and certainly has the character and fortitude to do the job.

Those type of comments sound like these people think they know more than yourself, Tommy, Jason and Gilby combined as if you're all idiots for ever complimenting Lukas on his performances in any way and these people plain just know better.

Posted by: Paula at August 31, 2006 05:52 AM

Hi!
One thing I have to know. Didn´t you see that Magni was joking yesterday when you snapped at him??
It was so obivious to me. I just wan´t to know

Posted by: anel at August 31, 2006 06:00 AM

boy I disliked all those performances last night. Ryan is not a rockstar type front man he's more of a brooding david grey type, which is fine, not my cup of java but fine.

jason was dead-on Tuesday when he said Ryan loses the plot when he's out from behind the piano. I hated his arrangement of clocks but did dig the "dukes of hazzard" hood slide. he'll be fine once he gets back to NYU law.

Speaking of hating an arrangement I hated Lukas' vocal melody for the supenova song. I don't like his voice very much to start. Also I don't know who wrote the vocal melody (Lukas or one of the SN boys) but the choices made there didn't fit the instrumentation. That song has potential but they need to scrap that vocal to make it work.

Pretty negative for me today even the thing I liked about last nights show is not that nice. I loved the cutaways of the crowd during dilanah's performance, everyone was bewildered and had no idea what to make of what they were watching. very similar to system of a down's SNL performance. very high on the unintentional comedy scale.

I hope SN give that Magni a shot next week.

Dear Mr Executive Producer Navarro,

Please tell your asshat associate Tommy Lee that 1) he should practice what he preaches about press statements and releases and YOU know WTF I mean 2) Not every woman in the world finds him attractive or even amusing (just because he can suck his own dick, doesn't make him appealing, just double-jointed and more reminiscent of a dog in this case) 3) I am certain that you or one of the other suave dudes had to explain to him the point of one of the contestants song choices last night. I say to her - Right On - bring it MF'ers - because she is the only one out of the whole group who can do this - shit you've all been photographed and taped acting ten times as badly - nobody reamed you a new one or destroyed your career over it. The Porn gang may be the laughing stocks in the music industry for this show, but these up and coming artists aren't and I believe you guys are complete jackoffs to attempt to destroy someone's career before they really get started by your jaded attempts to bring them down. When do you say enough is enough? - thought you said "move on" but I forgot "you lie". This too shall pass and should you guys want your music careers to live on, maybe you should consider the feelings of the fans of these artists and instead of bringing the kids down further and further, try to help them out and concentrate on what this is SUPPOSED to be about - music. Somehow that seems to have gotten pushed aside - is it because suave's music sucks perchance? Someone, somewhere gave each one of you help along the way, maybe it's time for you to pay that back. Thank you and have a nice fucking day!

PS I wouldn't lower myself to sign on to his myspace or website ie, my reason for writing to you as his complice dans le crime.

PSS Is your eyeliner painted or tatooed? It looks good.

Hey Dave, is there a reason why you are so hard on Magni? He's a laid back guy and Dilana's friend. So what's the beef here? I didn't see you snap at him, but as you can tell by now, the reverberation over it is mounting. Just wanting an answer. Is there one?

Posted by: Janine at August 31, 2006 06:22 AM

I found your comments to Magni at the beginning of the show really distasteful. It doesn't matter if it's your show. It doesn't matter if it's your NETWORK. Cutting someone off while they're speaking is just rude and disrespectful. I guess money and fame can't buy manners or class.

Posted by: B at August 31, 2006 06:27 AM

I am a huge fan of yours but you came off like an ass last night when you cut Magni off. Seems like you rethought it though as you were speaking and played it off in the end with humor. Please do not tell me you have become just like every other celebrity that feels like no one can speak to you in a certain manner. You were RUDE to cut off Magni and I found him really witty about the situation.
GO TOBY!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Johnson at August 31, 2006 06:32 AM

Did not understand WTF Lukas was singing last night but you know what...given the lyrics that
Supernova have come up with thus far, it was probably for the best.

Toby was great last night.

I voted for Magni a lot, not because I want him to win but because I didn't think he should have been in the bottom 3 the last 2 weeks.

The bottom 3 performances were all AWFUL!!!!!!!!

Posted by: chopperthedog at August 31, 2006 06:37 AM

Ryan lost cause he lost his pants! did everyone see that? how could you not. He sucked anyway--no stage presence, I think the pressure was taking its toll on him-- you could just see it in his desperate all over the place performance-- it was awful to watch! Lukas is the best, head and shoulders about everyone, but it is heartbreaking to see him perform those crappy SN songs. I really hope they do not pick him for his sake. I cannot imagine someone of his calibre with SN. Dave would be a much better match for him. I hope they pick Toby-- he is on the same level as SN and they could have their way with him.

It's On - Supernova f. Lukas Rossi

I feel suspended, reckless,
Going through the motions
Inside, outside
Waiting for the cause
The desperate measures
But I don't measure nothing
All the pain is left inside
Nowhere else to go

All your faces
Nothing changes
Come out from it all

Let it shine on
Leave me when the day is dawning
And all the light is gone
Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
What little light is left
You look down on

The senseless screaming from their pensions
Looking forward, not to find at all
Looking through lenses nothing really cleanses
Raindrop visions roll the cloud away

All your faces, darken places
Come on, come on, from it all

Let it shine on
Leave me when the day is dawning
And all the light is gone
Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
What little light is left
You're running from

Wanna fade away
Burn the records I can't play
You'll never make the same mistakes you have made before
Nothing changes, can't you take this
Left to rock

Let it shine on
Leave me when the day is dawning
And all the light is gone
Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
What little light is left

Ooh, ooh, ooh,
Shine on
Just shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
The little light left you
And shine on

I have to wonder about the playback on tv because I find some rockers songs hard to understand but when played back on the msn site or youtube I can understand them just fine.

I like the new SN song it's catchy and I thought Lukas did a great job. They looked good together.

have a great day!

Dave loved the show last night, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, just to let you know that poll asking fans what they thought about runiting Nirvana, well I along with 78% of the fans out there agree with you. It is a bad idea, Coban can not be replaced.

Posted by: Noelle at August 31, 2006 06:49 AM

Why did you want Magni to end up in the B3??? i mean, u said it yourself the dude can sing,he might not b perfect for SN but i thin he has the right to stay in there untill the last 2 he has that potential,so Dave, you realy have to count your words....

Posted by: Claudette at August 31, 2006 06:49 AM

RYAN doesn't fit with SuperNova...nice voice when he actually sings - mediocre on stage performance - he tends to look like a deer in headlights sometimes.

STORM - beautiful voice - love her sarcastic personality - has a presence on stage that forces you to watch her. Does she FIT with SN? Not too sure.

LUKAS - not enamoured. Cute enough, but doesn't strike me as a rock band lead - more gothic/funk/alternative in my opinion.

MAGNI - great voice, decent stage performances. I can see him fronting SN. He has more of a rock vibe than LUKAS.

DILANNA - my pick for the winner. She has such a unique voice. A lot of female vocalists sound the same - different tones, yes, but the same. DILANNA's voice stands out. I can turn my back to the tv and KNOW its her. When there were more woman on the show, I couldn't tell one from the other unless I was watching. DILANNA has a great stage performance and commands attention. She interacts with the band and the audience. PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER THE COMMENTS SHE MADE AND HER HISSY FIT BY THE POOL. She is in a competion - she is out to win, just as the OTHERS are! As YOU said, (paraphrased) - others have made the same mistakes including yourself and Tommy. The difference is - you, Tommy and others were already stars. DILANNA is being punished by the public for a common mistake. SHE's a LEO - she's blunt and honest and to the point (I can definitely relate!!!). I don't really see her as a man hater as mentioned earlier in another post. She's a strong woman. She's has a unique style which also stands out. Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and a few others have voices that stand out from the rest. Isn't that an important factor? Also, I checked out her photos and am pretty sure I saw her with a young bully breed dog - any RESPONSIBLE person with a bully breed is OKAY BY ME! (Not relevent, I know!)

PEACE, LOVE & PITBULLS!

Dave,
Didn't Ryan say he would never bad mouth anyone? I believe that comment was made to Dilana by him. He said he would see SN when he is looking down at them in the charts. Hmmmmm!@!! I guess I am a bit confused on how genuine he is and the others. Maybe everyone was mad for Dilana saying it like it is. I see the webisodes each week and already knew what she said was true so I wasn't shocked, it just seemed like old news.

Posted by: 2bcrazy at August 31, 2006 06:51 AM

It would be "so wrong" to put a singer to front a reunited Nirvana. I think the remaining band members answered that question along time ago when they dibanded after Kurt passed on.

I actually don't like Alice in Chains with a new singer. And I wouldn't see them using that name. They should have gotten a new singer and went by another name.

Posted by: Savvy at August 31, 2006 06:51 AM

CONTINUED....

I forgot TOBY - does that say something? TOBY'S adorable, a little TOO cute for SN. Personally, I think he would be better with another band - so long as he stays in the circuit! He's got a following (notice the EVS on hands????) The girls love him! He's got a great voice, so-so stage performances - some are good, others are ho-hum. I think he's still finding himself in some ways! Would love to see him afterwards if he doesn't win.

I stand behind DILANNA!

Dear Mr Executive Producer Dave,
One more thing, I just read an interesting article from a reputable news organization that you and Simon Cowell (sorry, just threw up a little in my mouth) are considering teaming up for a new show called "Super Asshats with Wonky Eyes of the 21st Century". I was wondering if you are going to go tight cashmere sweater and poofy hair or is he turning eyeliner, leather and lace? This latest complice dans le lit (damn that time I had to use the garbage can, but I digress), should be extremely profitable and assuredly successful for you and rather stylish and more modern appealing for him. Please email me at your earliest convenience to let me know if this is true. I would love to be an executive producer (really like the sound of the title)and to have my son be part of the house band. He's only ten but plays a mean Gibson flying Vee (red, how ironic) which he received for Xmas last year - now I don't claim to have the reincarnation of Jimi, (as he is left-handed and all) but he's taken lessons for years and is now experimenting and starting to write his own stuff and can copy some of the greats by ear (thinks you are great - slurp). I also do not claim that he walks on water, more likely to have 6's on his head considering his parentage, but he got a mohawk this summer(just to be sure for my sake) and all we found were 6's, and 7,s and 9's, so I think he does have a future in the business, but will actually have to work at taking out the competition, if you know what I mean.

Posted by: topcat at August 31, 2006 07:01 AM

Hey Dave, I watched Til Death Do Us Part just for you (and Carmen). When people were asking for you to do something in the winter you could go back to doing an MTV show. I think you were awesome on that show. Especially when Dave Lachappelle did the photos and you were pretending to be dead on a guerny. Loved it, with your interests you could do any kind of show. There is a lack of shows about artists (the non-celebrity kind) and their derivitive art. I think you know enough interesting people for that to work.

Anyway, on another topic, do the contestants all prepare a song for elimination and then find out at the show or do the bottom ones rehearse and prepare ahead of time ultimately knowing they will have to perform?

Another question, how did you learn to write so well?

Anyway, enjoying the show. And the look on those guys' faces (Tommy, Gilby, and Jason) says it all...they don't even feel excited about SN. But who can blame them. They have some chick that thinks she's a psycho killer (and really wants to be). Scary!

Posted by: Pamela at August 31, 2006 07:01 AM

People should back off of STARLA (above). How many hear can say they were at the original Woodstock? Starla has apparently been a rocker her whole life and remains strong. She has heard more, seen more and experienced more than most of the people posting (most likely anyway). That generation is to the point now where they may consider rock music just noise. STARLA doesn't. She is obviously a TRUE FAN. Keep rocking STARLA.

(Okay, NOW I'm done!)

"Audioslave - Original Fire [3:45] - Original Fire - Single" - way cool...

I think as Audioslave solidified their music got much better as a whole. I just think Chris Cornell has got one of the most awesome male voices is rock's history!!! I'm also stoked that he's looking to put out a 2nd solo album!!!

I also read in a current article he's living in France, remarried with kids, and YAY -> has been sober for 4 years...

Dave!!! Get up there and rock out like you did last year. The show needs a BOOST of excitement since Zayra left. She might not have fit with Supernova but she was something to look foward to. I think she should have been banished to honorary ENCORE act rather then be sent packin'.

That said, I think Toby is the best fit with Supernova. His style and personality just fit with the band better. I grew up with Gilby, Tommy and Jason and I just don't see lipgloss in their future. I love Lukaas...but NO! And Dilana, great performer, but part of a band like this,as a fan, is falling 100% into the ROCKSTAR fantasy. Sorry to all the woman's libbers out there, but Dilana just kills that for me. Don't wear a bra if you don't want to and by all means VOTE, but get the chick out of the band.

Let's have the remaining contestants do a Sex Pistols song . . .

Hi Dave. After watching the travesty of Ryan going home instead of Storm, I have to agree that Ryan is too intelligent for Supernova. Expect Magni to go home next week for the same reason. Supernova doesn't want a thinking singer for what is clearly a one-off band. Shame, because up until now I considered Jason and Gilby to be pretty sharp cookies. I mean - what next? Lukas is too smart for the band too? I'm getting the feeling that Toby is what they want.

Thanks for the link to the live Magni songs.
Stan was fucking hilarious. I always liked Magni but his sense of humor and humble wit has just propelled him into my favorite zone.

DAVE THIS GUY DESERVES MORE RESPECT FROM YOU:

Good morning Dave
Jesus that was so painful to watch last night... My 22 year-old daughter and I are stuck in North Idaho, the freaks from back east, and WE LOVE YOU!!!! TPC is incredible!!! Hopefully you will come play up here, Spokane is close and has some very good venues (BIG EASY) or maybe Seattle? Just a comment about Supernova, I checked the tour dates just out of curiosity and the prices for Vegas New Year's Eve, it would be cool if you could actually FIND a room there for less than 500 a night.... feel bad for all the youngsters who have supported the show and can't afford to see them, of course if they don't choose Dilana, who wants to see them anyway? I was not impressed with the first 2 songs they did, last night was okay.... TPC is WAY better...As a frustrated and apparently BRILLIANT woman up here in the mountains you guys certainly supply me with enough fantasy material for the week, god knows what i will do up here all friggin winter without you to watch. Love ya Dave and hope to see you in the Pacific Northwest!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Milfalicious at August 31, 2006 07:50 AM

Jesus Christ...you guys really think Dave was being rude to Magni?! I can see how you'd think that since he's always rude right?? (Wrong.) Obviously it was a joke people, come the fuck on! The twinkle in the eye and the surpressed grin should've made that blatently clear.

Hope everyone has a great day...Im off to work to listen to some SRL...hopefully from yesterday! :)

Love, Amber

Posted by: Ambersonian at August 31, 2006 07:50 AM

Lukas killed it last night. Yes, in a good way. I thought the bottom three performances were the worst so far this year. Just an off night, other than Lukas and Toby. However, they all have talent. They can all do great things, if they get on it the minute they're eliminated. Seriously, if they waste time they'll be forgotten about like many reality stars or singers.

Thanks again for SRL. Love the show, love the interviews. Love the music!

Cheers,

Thanks so much to the people here who mentioned Lukas's previous bands Cleavage and Electric Rise - I am listening to the music and I really love it. Anyone who isn't a Lukas fan might want to check it out, too..

Posted by: Snoskred at August 31, 2006 07:57 AM

Just another comment on last night's show, you don't owe Magni nada.... it's your show.

Posted by: Milfalicious at August 31, 2006 07:57 AM

I was so disappointed to see Dilana in the bottom 3 tonight. Just goes to show that there are a lot of reality show sheep out there that vote based on what they see in the reality episodes, not each persons talent, as they should be.

HATED Lukas' song with Supernova. I couldn't make out a single word he said through the whole thing, it totally lost me. And Nirvana is my favorite band so I've gotten pretty good at deciphering lyrics.

I'm one Canadian who isn't feeling the Lukas vibe at all....oh and for those of you wondering, not all us misprounounce "Nirvana" I think it's a strictly Ontario thing...

Ryan is a proud one not thanking you guys enough for all the opportunity. Ok, let's say he was too disappointed...

I wonder if Storm will be like this too when it's her time...

Please bring back zayra and make sure she removes the F$%#$%! coat this time!!!

Posted by: woobie at August 31, 2006 08:19 AM

I think Ryan has amazing talent....he definitely grew from week to week but some of his onstage performances of late appeared too forced and gimmicky...basically overkilled it every time. Sad that he went last night but I agree he just wasn't right for Supernova.

I felt though that Storm should have left first because her performances have been sucking bad lately. However, she is a natural rock star onstage and Ryan isn't.

Dilana..wow..first time I actually hated a performance from her. Psycho Killer was her being hard on herself. C'mon Dilana, time to snap out of it!

Dave, not long to go now til the finale..gonna miss seeing you on tv every week! :(

Qu’est que C’est? Ha! The show was really good. I enjoyed watching everyone put in a substandard performance. That’s the kind of week I’m having too. Jason had the BEST “Qu’est que c’est facial expression EVER on his face during performance last night. I think I love him. Sorry Ryan had to leave. But Gilby put it well when he said; we know you are good, but are you right for us? Honestly, it is down to playing one of these things does not belong. Can’t argue with the decision of SN. I only caught bits of the SRL. But somehow managed to hear you field the question about if it was your job on the show to sit on the couch and curse. And of course you assured everyone that that was your job. HaHa! Very entertaining evening – thanks

Morning Dave....
WOW!!! Not all the furor I was expecting over Ryan Mania.... His performance last night was fairly close to my prediction in yesterdays blog... king kong of the guitar amps and screaming till his voice repeatedly cracked... Desperation is something we've all felt before... I believe he thought it was his for the taking after all the manipulation he had done with Dilana... SURPRISE!!!!! hahahaha sorry... it's just that I have seen all the reality episodes.. He is who he is...

Bottom 3... yea sadly half expected Dilana to be there but got 2 of 3... my third choice was magni... but tuesdays show had Toby and Magni fighting for their singing lives... I was impressed.. Storm and Dilana were OK.. not a shining moment for either just fitting though.. ryan was embarrassing himself... thus the exit

Lukas with SuperNova... enjoyed this song the most so far musically.. and I have liked lots about Lukas but for me... his vocals don't articulate lyrics.. and I found myself straining and only picking up a couple.. he does this often... I don't know if he's had vocal training but... if he remedied this he'd be enormously more effective.. Love his flair onstage... needs major work on articulation...

And you... thanks for being the kind of guy that goes the extra mile... that treats his fans like they are the ones that gives you the lifestyle you enjoy... refreshing and empowering..

much love... much respect.... S..

Okay that is it, I'm done with this show. The way supernova is treating Dilana, and all these rumours about an intern saying that Supernova is planning on letting her go, blah blah blah. Tommy Lee's statements about dilana being drunk in vegas and carrying her out like a potato sack. My mission now is to get all fellow dilana fans to stop watching this farst of a show. And I hope I am very successful. Also I hope that Dilana just walks off and never look back. I think it is very true that Lukas has been picked. People will see when the finale airs. Supernova just used the women on the show to make people think they were considering a front woman they had already picked Lukas. I was beginning to have faith again in honesty and intergrity, but I guess that is too much to asked.

Posted by: Michelle at August 31, 2006 08:27 AM

I was very disappointed in them sending Ryan home. As T. Lee seemed to be a little choked up by sending him home. That one seemed hard for him. I would hate to do what he has to do. I honestly thought is was time for Storm to go. However, Someone has to go. There is only one slot to fill. Ryan I think could have made it work. He will be rockin' somewhere at some point. As far as Dilana, what was that shit she was singing. No one was into it. I think she isnt bringing anything to them, she shinned in the beginning and no nothing she does is great. No one remembers the first preformance, or the second and so on. It is the last one they do that we do remember because it is fresh. Dont get wrong, I think she wants it. So anyways, You rock!

"Didn't Ryan say he would never bad mouth anyone? I believe that comment was made to Dilana by him. He said he would see SN when he is looking down at them in the charts."
b2crazy - What he said was "I'll see you in the charts", not "looking down". Big difference.

Ryan was my favorite, so I'm sad to see him go, even though his style was wrong for SN and he was never going to win. Oh, well. I like his solo and Stage stuff better than what I've heard from SN anyway.

Dave, I listened to SRL for the first time last night. Highly enjoyable! You've gained another regular listener.

(I am sad that The Dark Horse has left the stage. He has shown the most change out of all of the contenders. I was a little afraid that he was going to hurt himself or one of the The House Band members with his mic cable and acrobatics. His parting words had some edge and were imbued with self-dignity.)

There has got to be more parting words on a youtube somewhere like there was for Phil's elimanation. Can anyone find it and past the link?

Posted by: Carol at August 31, 2006 08:32 AM

Ryan: "I'll see you on the record charts because that is where I'll being hanging out."

Good attitude to have....albeit a complete fantasy. You're not the good. You may click with one Five for Fighting-type piano ballad, but taking up residence on the charts just ain't going to happen.

Posted by: bajatango at August 31, 2006 08:34 AM

Ryan sez: "Whew, I was skeered I'd have to sing that Supernova crap" That was close, ya'll. Anybody listening to the same show I am? I've heard 3 Supernova tracks and they're a little er......thin. Long on the diddybop, short on the monster licks. Re: Ryan's comment He's more likely to be looking down at Supernova from the TOP of the charts. Love the blog. E

Posted by: Eric Bond at August 31, 2006 08:36 AM

I love this site. But, darling Dave, you forgot to add the Bildeburgers and the Trilateral Commission to your list of people helping you run the conspiracy. And, of course, Mephistopheles. I'm sure next year's band will just go all out for Rock Star: Faustus.

Even if the spoiler is true, who cares. It's a fun show (Remember fun? We had lots of it in the 80s and 90s.). It's a bit overwrought for people to get their panties in a wad about a *reality show*. If only people would feel so strongly about voting in a real election.

Posted by: liz at August 31, 2006 08:36 AM

Hiya DN,

Ryan was so pathetic and ackward on stage, it was embarassing. He screamed the entire song, glad he's gone.

Lucas sucks!!!! He's is the new Eddie Munster with an inflated ego. Couldn't understand a word of the Supernova song. He should learn to ennuciate.

Toby was good, but he's too nice, too boyish, too Aussi or something. More like boy band type with an edge.

Magni is great!

Dilana choice of song was disapointing, she seemed lost at one point. Still she's good, great vocals.

Storm is starting to bore me, we'll see what she does next week.

Peace out

I am here to shed light on why Ryan got booted. I do think he is good and got booted too early. However:

HE SHOWED BUTT CRACK SEVERAL TIMES ON NATIONAL TV.

Tommy Lee can't be looking out and seeing that every night. Plain and simple.

Posted by: Schwing at August 31, 2006 08:57 AM

Hi Dave!
Alot of talking on the internet about you dissing Magni (Also saw it myself). What was that? Where you joking, obviously he was, please tell me you where joking. You did cutt him off while he was trying to answer your question and he joked about it, but you came off like an ass, calling him names and saying "this is my show". Please explain this behaviour because there is alot of Dave bashing going on on many forums after last night!

Posted by: Fangirl at August 31, 2006 09:02 AM

I'm really getting sick and tired of hearing people say that if Dilana doesn't win the whole show was rigged and Supernova never wanted a woman in the first place.

"Supernova just used the women on the show to make people think they were considering a front woman they had already picked Lukas. I was beginning to have faith again in honesty and intergrity, but I guess that is too much to asked."

That is so pathetic. I am a woman and do not feel that way at all. Whoever wins will win on talent, showmanship, credibility and countless other factors, not gender. I truly believe this gig was open to the best man/woman out there and just because Dilana is on a downward spiral and may not win this, that has nothing to do with her gender. It's more her limited talent and emotional fragility that will take her out as a serious contender.

Wow....Did not expect Ryan to go before Storm. That sort of sucked. Although i really hated Ryan's song that he did for Supernova for his bottom three choice and how much time he wasted getting on top of them damn speakers. Very weird performance. Toby, he's great and i still think he would make a good frontman for the band. So we shall see. And as for "spoilers"....well, dont get on your fucking computer and look at it if its before you see the fucking show! I always wait to read the posts and reviews till after i have watched the damn show. So i am always surprised!

By the way, just listened to the new Supernova/Lukas track on YouTube. Lukas's voice is unique (and really wonderful IMO) but I do not agree that you can't make out what he is singing. After a couple of listens I had all the words, no problem. It would also be very far from the first time that I loved a song and understood it all at first listen. This one would be really great done in the studio.
Looking at the video again also shows me just how cool Lukas made this track sound compared to the other two and I think that's all in his voice.

Posted by: HelterSkelter at August 31, 2006 09:13 AM

Wow, now now we got the RyanStarGate to sink our teeth into!

On the show, Ryan did say that SN and him will see each aother on the charts. But when he gave his thoughts on the SN website after the show, he actually said that he felt "sorry for them", that they would have had a 20-year career WITH him, but without him, they won't last more than a few years. He'll be looking "down at them" on the charts.

He said he feels like he's the best performer of the bunch, the best songwriter "and all that stuff".

("all that stuff" probably meaning jumping off a piano, an amp, throwing a guitar, wearing a black rooster, putting his hand under his armpit when he sings/screams, etc - they should actually hold a clinic for this shit: "how to act oony on stage without killing yourself or your band members")

Can't say he's not confident.

Agree or disagree? My girlfriend loved him. I thought he was good when he wasn't overdoing it, but I suppose that if he hadn't done all of that crazy/weird stuff, he would have gone under the radar.

Now if he really wants to impress me, he should start practicing throwing his piano...

Someone above mentioned that Psycho Killer was Dilana being hard on herself. No it wasn't. It was Dilana being self-absorbed and narcissistic. Oh poor me...I'm a victim because I got caught behaving like a child. Imagine that. Her performance was laughable. Even SN seemed bored yet confused by that train wreck. Didn't anyone notice that the audience was very vocal in disagreeing that Ryan should be in the botton 3 and that they went wild after his performance? Same disagreement about Storm and still a good reception after the performance. They applauded when Dilana was named to the bottom 3, and after her performance, the reception was luke warm and had some booing as well. Why would any band of established musicians want to pick a lead vocalist who falls apart at the first hint of criticism to the point that she throws toddler-worthy temper tantrums? Yes, I understand that rock stars often behave badly, but they're, well... stars. Dilana is a woman in her mid-30's who hasn't yet made a big name for herself, and at that age, probably wouldn't have without the help of this show. So what does she do with the opportunity? Talk smack about her "family," throw fits, cut Magni with flying glass and give piss poor performances. Yeah, that's star material.

I thought Storm gave 2 strong performances this week, so I didn't expect the less than flattering remarks from SN. I haven't been a Storm fan because I find her annoying, but I did enjoy her performances this week.

I don't really have a favorite, although Magni is growing on me. I can see Magni, Toby or Lukas fronting this band equally well because they're all talented guys. I hope that Storm can parlay this into a great solo opportunity. Dilana is a tad to unstable for me, but she's a talented woman.

You KNOW it had to happen! http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2006/08/rock_star_super_11.html

I'm curious for the peeps that attended the taping on Tuesday morning. Was anything said about the voting problem? I was kind of shocked to hear Brooke say it was the highest voting night ever. ..although very happy for Magni!!!!

I know that in the 45 minutes I tried to vote, I got three votes in for Magni. I did get in a couple votes for Ryan, Toby and Storm and I had trouble with all of them, so it wasn't just Ryan.

And the sexism angle is just stupid.

Love Ryan or hate him, he wasn't the right one for Supernothing. He's better off without them. Give it a rest!

Posted by: RSSN LJ Post at August 31, 2006 09:19 AM

It's interesting to read that so many people think SN music sucks and yet they watch the show. I grew up listening to the Crue and quite honestly think they suck too. I was never a huge fan of GNR and I HATED Metallica until Jason was in the band. I wonder if we all got hooked in because we were looking to SN to be the next great band following in the shoes of Audioslave and Velvet Revolver. That said, I agree with the person who said "I don't think SN will survive any longer than the duration of one record and one world tour, unless someone from the remaining competitors miraculously starts showing incredible songwriting talent. I can't remember a single line or hook from the SN tracks played on the show this far which is pretty telling". Gilby is no Slash, Jason is the guy that quit Metallica and Tommy Lee, well, whatever.

Dave, I know these guys are friends of yours and I really respect you for hanging with them and giving the contestants guidance, but in my opinion, which is ONLY my opinion, SN will suck no matter who fronts them. We all know Tommy wants to do Dilana and that she will always be in the top 3. (Did anyone catch the confused looks on everyone from the bands faces when she performed at elimination? They knew she sucked!) It comes down to who fits best with the band, regardless of talent. I will admit that regardless of my feelings for Dilana that she or Lukas would fit best. They are both dark and crazy.

Hm. Last night...

Supernova song w/Lukas: Pretty forgettable, honestly. So far, Supernova's tracks just aren't that exciting. Maybe they're saving their best songs for the last weeks? Lukas did fine, for the most part, but I'm not sure many people will want to hear an entire album full of that (often squeaky) voice.

Toby's Encore: Solid, but...I still have to wonder if he got the nod this week because the band are fans of nubile young women jumping on stage. Then again, who isn't! ;)

Ryan's Bottom 3 Performance: For the first time in weeks, I thought he belonged in this position. And man, he looked way too desperate and was trying way too hard. It hurt to watch. I like the guy, and he has given some killer performances during the past weeks, but this didn't sound good at all. He

Storm's Bottom 3 Performance: I really thought she did a good version of the Evanescence song last night, but she's consistently gotten a "ho-hum" from you, Dave, and some members of the band. So, despite her tackling a technically challenging song (again!) and doing it well, I wasn't surprised to see her here. I liked her take on Helter Skelter. She took a classic song, delivered a solid performance, and got some good crowd interaction.

Dilana's Bottom 3 Peformance: This lady's "credit with the band" must be roughly equivalent to the US national deficit! Her performance was easily the worst thing I've seen in the past month of RS:SN, and anybody else would have been sent packing after that embarassment. Even my wife, who is a huge Dilana fan, was cringing during this number. Too bad, too, because she's had some great songs (though last night was NOT one of them, Dave!). Honestly, her "thing" is starting to get a bit boring...

Oh, and something I have to add: Dave, you've said (in reference to Dilana and Lukas) that it's a sign of a great rock star that people either love them or hate them. That may be true, but it's also the case for Michael Jackson, every boy band there ever was, and the Spice Girls, so don't read too much into it... ;)

Dave,

I went to UCLA and got a degree in PoliSci. I remember SO clearly what a professor lectured on one day. I dare say it shaped my outlook on life and I would like to share it with you.
Professor Larson talked about (in the context of Arms Races) "The fundamental error of attribution." What is that you ask? The fundamental error of attribution states that external actors behave for dispositional reasons and internal actors behave for situational reasons.
WTF?
Let me explain...
I behave the way I do because of the situation I find myself in. I am intimately aware of my internal dialog and my behavior is PERFECTLY RATIONAL to me (ie ,situational). However, YOU act the way you do because you are crazy, stupid, mean-spirited, et al, (ie dispositional). It is in your disposition or personality to behave the way you do. I can't hear your inner dialog so I HAVE to make judgements based on your observable behavior. Does this mean that you are what I observe? No, it does not.
The fundamental error of attribution is why all of us can have a conversation with almost any random person about what an ass everyone else is. Obviously, that is mathematically impossible.
People do what they do for the reasons they have. Plain and simple. They make decisions based on their situations.
To tie this in to SuperNova.
I think Dilana has valid reasons for her behavior. She wants this gig. She did what she thought was appropriate at the time. It is painful to watch Mark Burnett destroy her. I see a woman who is confused and wondering desperately how to fix her current situation. I also see many people judging her. People who would do well to consider what THEY would have done given her particular situation. It is disheartening to hear the cavalier "I would have done..." and "She shouldn't have..." "SuperNova should..." It is the fundamental error of attribution and I wish more people could understand it.
I like Dilana more than anyone for SuperNova. I think they are all very talented but she seems to fit them better than the others.
I was sick last night watching her beat herself with her song choice, I felt like she is diving into a pool of self-hatred. However, I don't know that for sure. All I know is that I like how she sings and I get such a good vibe off of her. I would gladly part with my hard earned dollars to see her perform, where I wouldn't with any of the others.

Thanks for listening Dave. Love your new album!

Posted by: DA at August 31, 2006 09:27 AM

One more thing: Dilana missed a really important point during Thursday's show. She seemed to think she was in the bottom 3 because she has acted like a bitch the past week, and talked about the vote being her punishment or something.

Dilana, honey, you were voted into the bottom 3 because you simply weren't that good on Wednesday night--despite Dave's gushing praise. (He seems to be overcompensating for something.) And you were even worse Thursday night, with that self-indulgent and boring and confusing performance, so you should probably say some prayers of thanks for getting a "bye" from the band...

Posted by: Cory at August 31, 2006 09:29 AM

Oh sure, Dilana may try to emulate Janis or Stevie, but she's very far from actually being like them!

Thus in light of the Dilana/Magni glass smashing incident, I'd like to give him a duly owed nickname
Magnanimous Magni!

Posted by: Savvy at August 31, 2006 09:34 AM

Dave, look as gay as you want to man... A hairstyle is not a lifestyle, ya know? Ryan had to go... Talented, but seemed kind of a pickey bitch to work with... He needs a solo career. I still think Dilana is hard-core, even if she's honest to a fault. We all learn as we go.
The Panic Channel rocks, love... Congrats on the release! Hope you come to Maine...
Catch you on SRL!! *H*

Posted by: *H* at August 31, 2006 09:42 AM

Dave, why is it that you tell Magni on the show that he killed the song and that you wanted to tell him that right to his face. Then here you predict he's in the bottom 3? I'm not understanding this. Are you being honest there or here?

Posted by: BlueSkies! at August 31, 2006 09:44 AM

Dave - i totally agreed with you on Dilana's Mother Mother performance, she was bad ass for sure!

One thing I have been waiting for all season is someone to perform a Jane's Addiction or maybe even a Tool song, any thoughts? I think everyone would love to see you up there one of these nights too, and I'm sure the rockers would do more than run around the pool naked to play up there with you!

Posted by: Daniele at August 31, 2006 09:45 AM

DA, I agree Dilana wants this gig and she did what she thought was appropriate at the time.
Where your argument falls apart is when you say,

"People who would do well to consider what THEY would have done given her particular situation."

I think that is exactly what happened. People seriously considered what they would have done and most came up with an alternate scenario to Dilana's. I know for a fact that I would not have chosen to do what she did because I am a different kind of person than her. I would have immediately become suspicious of a reporter who wanted me to name names on national television and not given him the fodder for gossip. Perhaps I wouldn't have done it for the purely altruistic notion of not hurting my friends, considering it was a competition like she said, but because I am a self-preservationist who has a little voice go off in my head when I sense danger.

Posted by: HelterSkelter at August 31, 2006 09:46 AM

Interesting points DA. I've been a Dilana fan from day one...she's just different. Plus she seems old enough to look good in front of SN, not like Lukas (looks like their son), or Toby the talented frat boy.

Come back to us Dilana!

Posted by: Cov at August 31, 2006 09:50 AM

Well, now you saw the Dilana roots. I cheat a bit on my personal critiquing of the performers by researching their pre-SN endeavors. Her scope is small and when she deviates from it, it is mediocre at best. Unfortunately, Dilana does not know where her scope is and now you know the truth.

She is not one of the future great female rockers. She's good for an album or two (maybe) and then back to oblivion. She’s not a legend waiting to happen. She is no Janis Joplin of the decade, by a long, long shot. Now, with work she may be able to pale against Stevie Nicks, but she ain’t getting any younger and time for her to find her self musically and still make it “big is quickly running out.

She is more looking for "big" rather than substance. She's not a pure creative artist. Substance isn't something you can truly teach in a clinic. Substance is the stuff that is lasting. She doesn't have it. LOOK HARDER!

Greetings Dave from Pakistan!

I thought it was bout damn time that I found out where your site was. So here I am!

I've never been a girl to resist spoilers *g* I was quite surprised to learn that Ryan was sent home. Very surprised. Where'd that come from? Though kudos t' Magni! Great campaign! He should run for president.

I was also surprised that Dilana was in the b3. But then, it might be a good thing for her 'cause I think the realisation that she was that close to leavin, she might further kick it up a notch.

I dont understand all the Dilana bashing going on. I was shocked at her comments but her behaviour afterwards, it was normal t' my eyes. I mean, how else was she supposed to act? If I were in her shoes, I'd be the same way. Swingin between self-anger, sadness and desperation. I so second DA's comments above.

Dilana, dont beat yourself up over this. Whats done is done and you cant change that. Past is past. Look forward and try to make amends but dont drown in the self-hate! Y'said it y'self, people make mistakes. Its only human. As for the critics, they're always gonna be going on about one thing or another, so forget them. Focus on winning! I really wanna see you win and sing with SN. I don't think that I want to buy a SN album that doesnt have your vocals. Or maybe Magni's.

Speakin' of, greetings to Magni n Storm, two of my most favorite people on the show cause of their amazing attitutes! Wish I could be more like them, especially Stormy. Toby.....you're Australian, thats more than enough for me to like you :)

Y' know, i'm usually more of a lurker. I prefer to read what other people are discussing and then maybe add in my two cents. But I am amazed and how much bashing is going on everywhere! Lukas bashin, Dilana bashin, Magni bashing, Storm bashin, your bashing....what is this? Bashfest 2006? Why wasnt I invited?!

Peace Mistah Navarro. Wish I could get my hands on that album of yourself but it aint here yet *mutters and grumbles of the disadvantages of living on the other side of the world* Take care!

Happy Thursday Dave & 67Fam,

Just needing some more of that SRL lovin Dave!!
I really dig the SRL tracks you're spinning.

AND---You Promised - You were going to finish the sitting in dirty gum story that you started talking about with Todd :)

THX for Warped-One Hot Minute, in yesterdays SRL. (you blew all my senses the first time I heard it in '95 . Love it. Always will ! ).

And, Iggy Pop, absolutely!!. If anyone hasn't seen the Grandfather of Punk live - you have to see him !!
I ended up on stage dancing w/ Iggy at a very small venue in Toronto-The Warehouse.
He's a legend - Once in a lifetime experience, once in a lifetime.

And White Zombie, I was fuckin hypnotized after seeing them at the Opera House in the early 90s.
(probably no more than 50 people were at that show - hell yeahh - seriously hypnotized!! )

Yesterday's show was awesome! Despite Ryans obvious growth, at the end of the day he just was not right for supernova. He was spontaneous but a little too erratic and out of his element when onstage. But if he sticks to the James Blunt/chris martin vibe he has some real potential to be a successful solo artist.

Lukas was great with supernova even though i couldnt make out the lyrics. But then again, some of the best songs of all time have unclear vocals.
The only critique i have, is that Lukas kind of overshadowed the band a bit, and that can be good and bad at the same time. But my moneys on him to win. He has the rock star vibe, look, attitude and he just shines onstage. A true rocker and frontman. I hope he gets to sing an original because that guy has a serious gift for creating melodies and his songs with rise electric/cleavage are amazing!

Can't wait to see a rocker come back, and possibly see Zayra rockin' out another one of her crazy outfits. This site is great and TPC rocks! Keep it up Dave:)

I think Dilana pulled one of the greatest scams of all time, coming on national television pretending to be a rock goddess when all the while she has only ever been doing cover tunes, has no songwriting abilities (I totally discount All Planets and I Wanna Do You Now, they can't possibly count) and perhaps would be better suited to an acting career.
If she makes it big outside this venue then it will only be because someone in the business knows that if they can get a savvy songwriter to come up with a few tunes there are enough people out there who dig her voice to buy a cd or two. She will never do it on her own and that's why she was so desperate for this gig and willing to try to sabotage the others around her.

HelterSkelter,

I understand where you're coming from and respect that you certainly know yourself and how you would react. My point is that we can't really assess what others think and feel or attribute dispositional personality traits to them by simply observing their behavior. More specifically, observing the little slices of behavior that we are allowed to see on a reality TV show.

That is my argument for people saying what they would have done or what she should have done. You would have done something different because you are YOU. Dilana did what she did because she is herself. If this situation had happened to Storm, or you, or me, or Lukas it would have played out differently. But the situation would have remained the same. The reaction would have changed.

I just wanted to share something that has helped me make sense of people and life in general. It has given me a zen like peace and made me a far less judgmental person. I am so much more 'live and let live' than I was before. Thanks for reading it and responding.

Last Post: I won't bore you after this.
SuperNova comments are too many times demeaning, tactless, and unwarranted. Twice, especially directed at one artitst, is too many. These artists should be treated as stars not star wannabes (ON TV!). Storm is so versatile and accomplished. Stardom and popularity does not equate to creative talent.

Storm has shown quite a backbone for Gilby's lame commentaries. You don't hear a lot from her fans because they're on other message boards, especially on the "Storm Large and the Balls" site. She is not a solo artist like you think. She is a team player and a front person for a team. She loves being in a band and loves her Balls. Don't pigeon hole her based upon her sexy looks and the songs she had to do on this TV gig.

Is Storm for Supernova? No ... they are far too constraining for her creative energy and talent. They need to grow to catch up to her.

Why don't I ramble this on Gilby's site? I think he's too proud and narrow-minded, and I'm afraid he'll vent more of his own transparent insecurities at Storm. She doesn't need that. None of them do.

hi dave and fam: i loved it when you schooled magni on who's boss. it never pays to sass the executive producer, he should learn that sooner than later! hahahaha. storm or him - next! opinion: doesn't storm look like that ho from melrose place/the world according to jim? i forget her name.

Joanna, totally agree about Iggy. As a young punker, I lived in NYC and gravitated to the scene in the late 70's early 80's and Iggy was our leader, hero, etc. The man is incredible to see live and he still has all the piss and vinegar we all did in our late teens and early twenties. He would just show up and play, no matter the venue and it was always kick ass. Glad you got to experience one of the greats up close and personal rather than the ridiculous stadium shows today. I always loved seeing bands/artists before they made it big - then it was all always only the music that mattered. LOL

Lukas and Supernova: The guitar track started while Gilby's hands weren't even on the guitar yet. what the hell? you can go watch the performance online and it's obvious.

DAVE- are we watching LIVE music, or not? And if there was another guitarist backstage, why not put him onstage?

Dave, I mean Mr Executive Producer, can't you send Sweety a copy of your CD for his creative and respectful comments concerning Bashfest 2006!, Gotta love it!

Sugar,
YES!!! Courtney Thorne-Smith. You're right. I've been trying to figure out who she reminded me of. I've never been much of a fan of hers and I hope she goes next. ;)

RE: “It's like Mark Burnett pinned a scarlet letter on her for a while. It's like woman power freaked out the rock world so much they had to take one down.

With all due respect, Dilana wasn’t made a victim by anyone.

She was held to account because she made a mistake. Big fucking deal. That happens every day in Grown-Up Land. Strong people deal with it. Smart people learn from it.

Dilana lived through a shit storm of her own making. That is unless, unbeknownst to us, she’s a puppet with somebody’s hand up her ass making her lips move and strings on her arms yanking glasses out of her hands.

Exercising power is stepping up if you fuck up and hurt somebody, it’s taking your lumps, and trying to make things right.

Dilana must understand that. That’s why she apologized; that’s power.

Dave, MR EP, in ref to note at 10:13 8/31.....Sweety's message is at 9:54am - you really need to let us edit our posts for after thoughts that don't occur while previewing (far more intimidating word than edit).

Hey again, Dave. :-) People, people… I would never presume to speak for Dave in anything, especially not at his own blog. (I enjoy living and breathing. ;-) The SRL gang *is* called the ‘mafia’ and Todd *does* sound a bit like a ‘wiseguy.’ LOL Kidding, of course. ;-) ) However, the whole conversation with the Mag-ster was a joke. They were goofing around and having fun. That’s all. There was no nasty conspiracy or bashing of the Icelandic teddy bear. I know it might get a bit confusing at times because Dave can look like the Prince of Darkness (in a good way ;-) ). LOL ;-) And he does a *great* ‘scary voice’ like on his SRL broadcast where he was doing the “welcome to the Devil’s Circus shtick. :-) But he’s just a very sweet and funny guy, not an egomaniacal tyrant out to dis Magni. And Dave, I must say I’ve enjoyed adding terms like “the ill and “dope to my internal ‘Oxford Dictionary.’ ;-) I also can’t think of anyone else that could call folks, well, ‘female canines,’ shall we say ;-), but mean it in such an amiable and affectionate way. LOL You rock, dude—love your sense of humor and modern dialect. Listening to you, I don’t have to ask my nephew and niece what the latest additions to the English language are, anymore. LOL

Ryan's gone and Dilana's a snake. I hope Ryan fans continue to watch the show if only to vote for someone other than Dilana.

Dave, please grab a guitar next week and work your magic to make SuperNova sound good!

There's definately something that looks different about the preformance with Supernova v's the preformance of the contestant alone.

Something about the effects, I'm sure it is pre-recorded (during when the show is being tapped)and worked into the feed for air but why does the effects look so different? It almost reminds me of a taped concert that happened a few years ago, not quite as clear. Something, it's just not the same picture.

I have tickets to Supernova for a Feb show. Looking forward to it and to see how they are live.

The real draw for me to the concert was that the venue says that Supernova is playing with The Panic Channel! Hope it stays this way, that was my draw to buying the tickets ahead of time before learning which contestent won.

Hey Dave,

Just want to say thanks for being so supportive of Ryan. The guy is a fantastic musician and I'm incredibly thankful to the Rock Star franchise for bringing him into my musical sphere. I'm going to be looking forward to hearing more of his music as he is going to get on releasing something NOW, NOW, NOW per your advice :)

Wow Dave, this is fuckin insane! I was going to post here last night around 10, there were 95 posts then. Of course I lost my fuckin connection, at least I was able to hear all of SRL.

Seeing the performances live and then watching them on TV you do get a different perspective. When I watched Lukas perform with SN live, I was totally focused just on him. Watching it on TV, I realized how well he really blends in with the band. I didn't realize how bad Dilana sounded until I watched her performance again on TV. As for Dave, you are just fuckin hot. Live, on TV, in bed........
