New Thread
Hard for me to believe, but I am sitting back here in my dressing room getting ready for yet another performance show. These weeks tend to blend into each other and become kind of a smeared memory. I can hear the band rehearsing through the walls next door. I think today's song selections are viewer's choice, meaning they have been voted for online. Maybe we can satiate some of the viewers that have a problem with the songs on the show. I know, probably not! I haven't seen any of the singers perform yet, but I can't help but think that this is simply the "Patrice Goes Home" week. At this point, she would have to do backflips and have fireworks shoot out of her eyes to save herself.
Q: I hear Rock Star's season finale is September 13 (Perk's and my son's birthdays!!) Doesn't that mean possibly another double elimination...or are my math skills off?
I think that there will be a final 3 or 4 on the show's finale. Not sure yet, but a double elimination isn't really a guarantee.
Q: I read on an AOL news site that Rob Zombie will be joining you on the couch pretty soon. Can you confirm or deny the rumor?
That is an old story that they chose to run pretty much out of nowhere. Originally, we were to have guest panelists come up for an outsider's perspective, but the Supernova chemistry on the couch worked out so well, that we scrapped the idea... As cool as it would have been.
Wednesday, we will get a chance to hear another Supernova song with a different singer on it. I am just as curious as some of you are to hear what it will be like. After hearing a few of their songs, we will have a better understanding of what the Supernova sonic landscape will sound like.

OMG the 13th track!! My girlfriend and I were at the DC show in the first few rows.. we just got engaged this weekend and listened to ONe for the first time.. And right as I started thinking how it would have been nice if the audio hadn't gotten messed up at the show, bam there it was!! Dave, you are the best! and the album is incredible, the sonic landscapes are so lush and soothing.. my gratitude is infinite..

Love the picture!
Can't wait to see you guys at the listening party! For anyone going, check out this site: http://iconparking.com/index.asp
I believe it may have been Sue that originally turned me onto it, but if you type in the club's address, it compares all the parking garages prices near the club (and they REALLY vary), and you can print out a page that guarantees you a parking space!
Also, assuming we're going for a late night snack/coffee/or something afterward, anyone have any good places to eat in the vicinity to recommend? I'll start looking into it.
My friend Mare is looking into coming with me, so when I get the word I'll RSVP her, Sue.
So, so, very psyched....
Spreading the love,
Deena

Clarify: By "You guys" I meant Sue, Kristen, Peebs, etc... I'm sure that "you guys" as in, TPC aren't going to be flying in. Damn.

Dave...you are a busy man!
I guess I am out of it because I am new to Panic Channel, lol.... I was watching some promo video for Rockstar and heard this wild song that I loved and I was asking everyone "who's song is that?"...finally I found out it was "Teahouse of the Spirits" and I'm like, okay, so THAT is what Panic Channel sounds like?! Checked out your myspace and I like your other stuff too...
...so now I'm gonna BUY YOUR CD, haha. A brand new fan via Rockstar. Promotion works!! ;-)
By the way this is the first Rockstar season I have watched and I am growing to love you and your HONESTY in your criticism on the show. Please keep it up!
Love, your newest fan.
p.s. Hope Panic Channel tours in Toronto soon.

Can I just say that whenever Dave answers a question I've posted, I get all tingly in my 'special places'!!!. hahahha
Yes...Yes...Oh...God...YES!!!! (slamming my hand on the desk in front of my computer a la Meg Ryan in Harry met Sally)
and I am soooooo jealous of the East Coasters..the camraderie that you guys exude is something to be admired...someday, someday!!
ok, off to San Diego, did I mention I was seeing Circus Diablo tonight at Canes, the same place where TPC kicked off their first tour? That place is almost as special to me now as the Dragonfly
I have the perfect CD to keep me company on my road trip...Was it worth all this?

Hey Dave, you know what would really make my day one of these weeks? If YOU would get up on stage with Supernova and play guitar with them. I think they'd sound good with both lead and rhythm guitar (*whispers*: you on lead). Preferably with Lukas on vocals, I will put my bias right out there. I'm allowed a little fantasy aren't I? Have fun at the show tonight!!
Posted by: Elizabeth at August 20, 2006 11:06 AM
wait a minute...did Dave use the word 'satiate'?
jezzi(hold on..there I go again!!)

Love that photo!
Re: Song choices. Nah, we won't be placated by the viewer's choice voting because the songs we were given to vote upon were 80 percent repeats. But whatevs, my real complaint about the songs is that the rockers are taking heat for their choices. I don't think it's really a legitimate criticism when they are "choosing" from a pre-set list that they have no control over. I think a lot of people will stop whining about the songs if the guys on the couch lighten up on that issue. Just sayin'.
Sunday love to all...

Hey Dave--
I just downloaded the Panic Channel release of ONe and FUCKING WOW! Just love it!
Hope to catch you guys performing soon in a town near me. Or perhaps Boston for Halloween???? .
As for the SuavePorn, I sure hope this week's original is better than last week's original (because that pretty much blew).
Peace!

Being mildly irked that someone (LINDA in the thread of comments before this one) felt it important enough to leave a post on your having spelled "Tuesday" incorrectly I figured for someone to tell you that it must have really been badly mispelled...so, out of curiosity I went back to look at how you spelled it and:
LINDA: How do you think Tuesday is spelled? Not only did Dave spell the word correctly, but he even included the apostrophe!, making it grammatically perfect! Dave, your spelling is impeccable!

Ruby - Im sure Dave fixed the spelling error as he usually does if somebody points it out to him...he just edited it before had a chance to see it.
Looking forward to this weeks Rockstar...and the long-time-comin boot to Patrice! I'm even more excited (natch) about seeing TPC on Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow night. Dave, are you doing the whole couch interview on the show? The description says, "Guitarist Dave Navarro, who performs with the Panic Channel."
Love, Amber :)

Photo is awesome! You look mysterious too. I don't see how you do it. Do you ever get time to just relax and do nothing? Your schedule is busy. I listened to you guys last night on the Blue Room, loved it. Teahouse of the Spirits is becoming my favorite song from the CD. I loved Steve and you on the couch talking also. Have you guys decided yet when you are touring yet? I know on THE Panic Channel website it said you would be touring this fall. I hope you will come to Columbus, Ohio. I will be there definitely!
Take care!

Ruby, the first post he had by this photo he spelled Tuesday- Teusday, I didn't notice until after my first comment. I even went back and looked at it again. No big deal, I do that kind of shit all the time. I'm sure he just hit the wrong key. It just made me feel better that I'm not the only one that makes mistakes. I know Dave is probably a perfectionist like I am, sorry I wasn't saying it to be critical.
Posted by: Linda at August 20, 2006 11:46 AM
Ruby - Tuesday was spelt as Teusday in the temporary thread that is now gone.(I saw it too)
She just made light of it in a nice lighthearted, humorous way.
It's no big deal- I'm sure Dave can take it from Linda. (You know, Linda and Dave have been acquaintances here at 6767 for a long, long time :)

Dave, just saw the Blue Room interview with you and Steve. You guys are so hilarious. Especially loved what you guys were saying about naming the album. So funny. :p
Love the picture too. Very poignant. There's something about black and white photography which is just eye-catching - especially when you're the subject. ;)
Can't wait for the show. I'm very curious what the fans chose. You're right, it should stop the complaints about song selection (I know, I'm guilty of those too) but, can't satisfy everyone. Still, it should make for an interesting show.
Much Love,

Hi Dave. :-) Thanks for the heads up on the video and interviews at the “Blue Room. Very cool and may I say “awesome gear? (The beautiful guitars and drum set, of course. ;-) ) Seeing Steve sing, he makes it look so effortless—as great performers do—but I still wonder where that *huge* powerhouse voice comes from at times. He *looks* so innocent ;-) but that lad has pipes and knows how to use them. LOL Still listening to and loving “The Panic Channel CD. The insane, incendiary combo of wicked guitars, transporting vocals and distinctive drumbeats has come perilously close to turning me into an old-fashioned “headbanger. LOL Can’t listen to certain tracks without my head, hands and feet starting to move. If there’s ever any media reports about strange ‘flailing hair’ incidents North of the border while listening to “ONe, I’m blaming you guys. LOL As for “Rockstar, wow, it’s coming down to the wire. The elimination performances will really start hurting soon because these folks are incredible. Each of them will ‘win’ from the international exposure and fans they’ve garnered from the show, even though only one can actually front the band. I was harsh (but honest) about my reaction to the SN debut, yet I’m eager to see their next performance. If I dig it, they’ll have a clean slate in my books. It’s an organic evolution taking place in the public eye (much as happened with “ONe) and there’s bound to be a few hiccoughs until SN is polished and shiny. Have a good one and can’t wait to see the next “RS:SN broadcast. :-)

Shit, I didn't expect any comments on the Tuesday spelling. Joanna, yeah Dave and I go way back, and if he can take it from me, I would be willing to give it to him anytime! ha ha. At last Wednesdays taping he told me he knows who I am. I would guess he didn't mean it in a bad way, or he wouldn't have signed my ONe CD.

There is a Lukatic standing in the line with a skunk stripe in her hair and tons of cleavage exposed - third time she has tried to get in to the taping, can you help her? She is a huge fan and today is her birthday. Everytime she tried to get in VIP's take up all the spaces. ( People from Big Brother and Survivor- not real VIPs!)

My man Dave,
About this time last year you boys turned the show into the JD show(well some say the whole show was the JD show but I mean performance wise)
dontcha think it's about time to do this with Lukas?
I'm getting kind of bored of watching the same old tired act from Dilano and watching the Ryangst's lame ass Eddie Vedder impersonations.
Just sayin'.

Gorgeous photo. Love that.
I agree with the previous post - I am always hoping Dave will play too. I developed this fantasy when the guy who was specifically told not to play the guitar decided that he was going to play anyway the next time he performed. I wanted to see Dave get up on stage and play – right then and there. You know, just to scare the hell out of the guy. Oh well.
I’m hoping we don’t hear anything else about song selection also. They are all talented…do something with the song you are given. If you choose to do an outtake from the Wedding Singer and then stand up in front of the panel and say it was the best you could do – you know you had a hard night in Vegas and everything. Well, how absolutely fascinating…..NEXT!!
Okay, time to start mixing in some decaf! Have a great Sunday.

Thanks for the extra insight Dave...
I am interested in hearing another SN song. I hope people give it another chance. I liked the first tune, the bed track anyway, so I hope the winner of the season gets to put their own spins on the songs with lyrics and melodies.
I guess we get to hear Lukas sing Lithium this week! I wonder what that will be like.
Posted by: CJ at August 20, 2006 01:28 PM
And oh yeah, so I guess that means we won't be seeing JD as a judge this year, either?

Magni thinks Storm should win Rockstar!
This is a quote from Magni in a recent Orgonian article about Storm:
"(Storm) is the anchor in the house, you know. Storm is the mommy, and I'm the daddy. She's the queen," he says smiling. "And I honestly think she should win this."
Here's the link so you can read it yourself:

That photo....took me a couple moments to come up with the word, and the word is: wistful....absolutely amazing BTW....
This week, it is Buh-bye, Patrice.....as for Supernova, I am waiting to see what this week's song brings--I hope they show us a more original ditty than last week's!!!
And it is hard not to be jealous of the East Coast/West Coast fans, especially when y'all get to see the PC in concert and coordinate listening parties at cool clubs....here in the midwest, where there is only cows and Indians and covered wagons, we got nothing!!!! :-(

Dave,
I hope that you get some sleep pal, you look like a sleepy squirl in the picture..lol. Sexy and cute- can you get any better!
Can't wait to see the show on Tues to see what the performers will be singing. Most of the songs are ones that have already done, their best that is but with one option to do another that they have not yet done.
Anyway it wll still be good though I think Patrice will be going home this week.
This weekend was really long and boring without my RS fix, than again umemployed and finished school so unlike you I have a shit load of time on my hands and not a whole lot to do but find work- kinda hard to do on Sunday since were 10 years behind the rest of N.A. and do not have Sunday shopping.

Hey Dave, sorry just one question, I thought I saw a posting on that Loveline site that you were doing a show again tonight. I know you and Steve were on earlier in the week but I thought the site said you were coming back tonight. I just went to teh site and they took your name off of teh line up so I am assuming that your not going to be on or are you?
I was going to stay up and listen but not of your not going to be on,,,lol.

Dave I just bought your album...LOVE it! Can't wait for Rockstar this week. Please lighten up on Magni...I think he has so much talent and I love his laid back style.
Also love Lukas, Dilana and Storm. The rest are talented in their own ways, but definitely not right for Supernova. Then again after hearing the song last week maybe no one is right for this band...except maybe Jill and she's already gone.

I'm pushing tin that the next RockStar to perform with Supernova will be Lukas... Seems like an obvious choice since Dilana was the obvious first choice and she went first...
and Dave...
"Hard for me to believe, but I am sitting back here in my dressing room getting ready for yet another performance show. These weeks tend to blend into each other and become kind of a smeared memory."
That would be a big welcome back from life to you from the world of being "single" once again. Ain't it grand. Yippy hoo dippity doo!!!

I love you on rockstar i think you are honest to the point. I must say the rockers were better last year but my 2 favourites are lukas and dilana.
good luck with cd sales

No, people won't be satisfied with Viewers' Choice because there were only 4 songs to choose from for each contestant and the songs had already been done before. And some people are never happy with anything and just like to complain.
What would be really cool for a Viewers' Choice would be to have the new songs that would be posted on the board up, and the viewers could vote for which rocker would do which song. That could be a good way to mess with people!
Posted by: Michelle at August 20, 2006 03:19 PM
Hey Dave,
Eh, I know it seems like this whole Rockstar thing is dragging on, but it'll be over before you know it, yanno?
I was just thinking that it would be intresting if the Panic Channel would proform at one of the eliminations or somthing, because it's pretty much just an hour of comercials [or that's what it feels like!]. I just think it would be good publicity .. the only reason I know about the Panic Channel is because of Jay Leno and through you talking about them.
Just a thought.
Take it easy hun

Dave,
Love the new CD. Also glad to see you support Ryan so much on the show. I think he's mad talented and the most CREATIVELY gifted rocker on the show. Dig Lukas, too.... Magni is a total snoozefest. He always sings straight covers, no innovation. Blah. He seems more popstar to me.
Question: when are we going to hear some more original tunes on Rockstar? Ryan, Lukas, hell even Toby have some good original stuff floating around the net. I'm tired of all the cover songs.

Why aren't they calling Dilana on her cocky remarks?? Man, last year JD was raked through the coals for saying he already knew and loved the songs while the others were trying to learn them. He also in the same breath complimented them. Big deal!
So Dilana tells Tommy ON CAMERA to "send the other F*ckers home....", etc. and nobody says anything! Then from what I hear she went further at the taping last Sunday and was really over the top. The other contestants didn't look happy when the camera panned over to them.
Why didn't you guys show the clip on the show so the others could comment. Why didn't you put Dilana on the spot? She deserved it!
Posted by: Niki at August 20, 2006 03:42 PM
Also after her performance with Supernova...
She pretty much told them she's the one and that she told them already!
Posted by: Savvy at August 20, 2006 03:54 PM
On Monday's episode I can't wait to hear the reactions of the contestants based on the comments Dilana made after her performance.
I bet the dynamics in the mansion have significantly changed over this past week because of her comments ! Must be tense in there now.
BTW- Does anybody remember another snide remark that Dilana made during the "Fresh Ink Extra episode". As they were getting their tatts done Dilana called Patrice a Buddha bitch?
I would think that would be considered very insulting to many fans spiritual views.
Posted by: Joanna (from Toronto) at August 20, 2006 04:11 PM
Thanx for the new screensaver! You look so peaceful. Makes one wonder what special place you've wandered off to. I have to agree, it's adios to Patrice this week. I think it would have been great if they'd have given us a write in option for song selection instead of just choosing one they've already done or one someone else had already done. Just a thought. Just watched the Blue Room interviews. You guys have great chemistry and it certainly comes through in your music. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Take care!

As for the songs selection, I think there will always be people complaining about that! But hey, if these people are not happy with the show, they still can change the channel!!!!
I had a chance to listen to the Panic Channel album a few times this week (working in a record store, we got a play copy! hehe!)...and I gotta say it ROCKS! I really dig your sound! Congrats to all the band!
Much luv from Montreal,
Mary Jo

She totally IS the one for Supernova.
She's predictable - so are they, apparantly.
Her lyrics are awful - so are theirs.
She likes cheap dancing girls - so do they.
She's a cheese factory - so are they.
She takes herself very seriously - so do they.
And we've no idea how either of them react to criticism. *boom tishhhhh*

If it really were viewer's choice, I'd be voting for Toby to sing the Aussie classic 'Talking to a Stranger' - Hunters and Collectors, Magni would sing Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus, and Ryan would sing The Mercy Seat by Nick Cave. Don't know about Dilana.. maybe a Leonard Cohen song. Joan of Arc?
Your hosting Supernova is great PR for The Panic Channel, wouldn't have heard of the band otherwise (living under a rock since I had kids, it seems....) ... been a bit disillusioned with contemporary rock, all these young kids who think they invented punk and goth (while their moms iron their t-shirts and buy their hair gel). For heaven's sakes.

Since all of us think that's such an awesome pic... was that just one photo that someone took or was it from a photo shoot that happened somewhere? Let me rephrase; got more? ;)
Robin, Sue... don't know if this has been mentioned yet, and not like it matters, but what's the cover on Wednesday?
How much longer is the wait? Click here: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=8&day=23&year=2006&hour=20&min=00&sec=00&p0=861

i'm not huge on Toby, but still i'd love to see him perform The Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) by The Doors...
Posted by: Savvy at August 20, 2006 05:29 PM
Any chance you can talk Burnett into releasing the rawker's versions of the SN backing track for sale? Particularly Josh Logan's version because THAT was the hottest performance all season and I would gladly shell out money to have a copy of it.

Deena-Well we (Sue, Kristen and myself) aren't charging a cover, if we did the money would go to one of Dave's charities. :-)
I'll go out on a limb and say the bar isn't charging a cover but I'll ask when I call the guy Tuesday with the final arrangements.
This is gonna be a blast!

First off ,Dave, LOVE YOUR MUSIC! Going to buy your CD as soon as I can. By the way my mom loves your music.
Love Rockstar because it has real rock songs on there. I grew up with classic rock that is played on there from my parents and I love that kind of music. I was a teenager during the early 90's when your group came into the scene I still listen to all that music as well.
I am hooked on Rockstar so much that I wish you would put out more web episodes throughout the week! Just to see more of the people practing with the house band and being in the house. It is a great show! The house band is great. I love when there are clips of the episodes at the start of Rockstar, but nothing that we haven't seen from the web episodes.
I just wanted to say thanks for a great show, and you are a great artist! Bye, Tina

DAVE! What is up with the not showing the press junket fiasco on the performance show today??? I mean REALLY! Dilana should have been totally called out for her bashing all the other rawkers to the press. NOT COOL. She has a loose mouth. This is just telling me that the fix is in and Mr. Burnett doesn't want to show that side of Dilana to everyone????
And what is up with Magni being slapped on the wrist for NOT playing guitar this week??? Let's be consistent, folks! He and others have been ripped into for strapping themselves behind a guitar..and now he's being ripped into for NOT strapping himself to a guitar?? WTF?? I thought the point was to make the songs their own.. not to just do what the original bands did with it.
Anyway, LOVE YOU, DAVE! LOVE YOUR NEW CD, TOO!!!!

It´s probably much different seeing Rockstar on TV than actually being at the performance show itself. I guess that´s why I´m not getting the Dilana-mania. Listening to her perform does absolutely nothing for my rock-heart. Her voice is always the same.
I thought Lukas was one big ego at first, but now I´m beginning to like the guy - he seems to be having much fun. But my absolute favorite is Magni. He´s simply not of the same caliber as the other contestants. His voice is amazing. I think he´d be a great frontman for Supernova. Once he gets rid of those cameras, he´ll rock.
Finally, thank you Dave for this website. I really like reading your views, and I totally agree with you about Patrice being the next to go home.

Hello Mr. Navarro,
I am a huge fan and you have inspired me to learn guitar. This is way harder than it looks. After an hour, I may have it tuned correctly but I'm not sure. I live in Walnut Creek, California, home of one of the best bass players, you would think some of it would rub off. Apparently not! Anyway...thanks for the inspiration!

Dear Dave,
You must be the hardest working man in new media. Do you ever sleep? What an honor to see you and The Panic Channel in Chicago this spring/summer. I have never been that close to such a talented group of musicians. Each band member (Chaney, Perkins, Isaacs, and you)has a singular presence. I first saw you shred at UCSB's football field (Santa Barbara, CA) in the late '80s. I've been hooked since. Wishing you more success, creativity, and productivity to you and The Panic Channel.

1st: Dave you are a sexy mofo (just reminding you, in case you missed the 8596 other comments telling you the exact same thing.) Also, this whole East Coast/ West Coast debate and jealousy over which gets more TPC action, GIVE ME SOME SYMPATHY! I'm from Australia and we get nothing!! Hahaha, so Dave, if you ever feel the urge, head on out to the land of Oz. Would be most appreciated ;-)

Hey Dave,
Just been catching up on reading your entries/comments. It's really great that you share your thoughts - Thank you!!!
I never thought I'd say this, but your an inspiration!! I'm hoping to learn guitar!!!
Thanks to you and Rockstar SN, I'm considering getting back into music.
Could you please thank whoever is responsible for the Rockstar show - I come from a one parent household and as a result of the show, the relationship between my mum and I is much better.
I hope that one day I'd get the chance to see you in concert. Do you think you and The Panic Chanell would be able to do a concert in New Zealand someday?
I can't wait until this weeks Rockstar Show!!!
Well, I have to get back to these college assignments, but before I go - Dave do you have an email address that I could contact you by?
Hope alls well :-)
Thank you for your time,
Nancy

Hey Dave love the album!
All I can say about Rockstar is that they have to do something with Dilana. No offense but if she ends up being the singer Supernova won't go very far with their music. As is after listening to their song I was disappointed to say the least. Here I was expected something heavier, more edgy hard rock what with 3 people from bands like GNR, Motley Crue and Metallica and the song they performed is what came out ... The dancing half naked girls were a little too much for my taste. Lukas is awesome the boy has talent .. I;ve said it before and I will say it again let them all play original songs and you will see who will win them over. Dilana has to go too cocky for her own good.
