Wow, first?

Thoughts: Glad Dilana got knocked down a few notches. She deserved it.

Thought Toby did well with the SN track, better than Dilana did last week, but then again, the song itself was better so maybe it's just a byproduct of the song.

Magni nailed Fire, IMO.

Patrice deserved to go home.

Thanks for the blog, Dave! Kinda cool seeing that the blog was partially responsible for "Hammer Time" tonight.

Hey Dave - Hope all goes well on your travels and the promotions for TPC! Be sure to get some relaxing vacation time when you get a chance...maybe you could bring the band down to Hawaii for some R&R!! We'd love to welcome you!! =)

Hey Dave, how about making me VERY happy and letting me meet you and your band backstage sometime? That would be about the coolest day ever! BTW, thanks for such a kick-ass website!

Thank God Patrice is finally GONE!

You know.. the first time I saw Dilana perform.. (It was the performance of the song "Zombie").. I knew she pretty much had the most potential out of the bunch.. her an Lukas that is.. and I'm still a fan despite her attitude.. but she's really hurting herself with those comments.. more than the contestants she made them about ha, that's for sure! Part of people voting for you is the "likeability factor".. and if you come off as an extreme biatch... eventually you probably will lose fans and their votes.. I don't think she realizes the attitude she is apparantly developing.. I sure hope she realizes it in time... and I also hope she doesn't try to act extremely nice now and try to cover up the attitude... because people might see through the act and that she's prentending to be nice for the cameras just to portray this non bitchy person.. and that might just be worse than being a biatch in the first place..
I just hope she realizes it.. stops it.. but still stays real to herself.

AAAHHhhh, thank you so much for doing the Dilana confrontation. What a relief! I can now go back to my best summer show without the issues spiraling from Dilana. I wonder how things are at the mansion tonight.

I'm going to the taping Sunday so I'll get a sneak preview of the reality episode. I really hope they spend a proper amount of "healing" time with it, air it out and get that crap off their chest. Geez it was just getting too out of control with Dilana. I hope the band keeps all that in mind from now on.

Back to my final request... PLEASE watch the songwriting clinic.

Posted by: Niki at August 24, 2006 02:08 AM

IMHO, Dilana became the center of attention for her actions, so for her it wasn't that bad in retrospect. That's what she likes to be 24/7 = the center of attention. Which actually I think she transfers that attitude to the stage pretty fluidly.

Posted by: Savvy at August 24, 2006 02:19 AM

(Dude! Dave... you're blog is totally blowing up now!) When I was watching the mansion episode with the media stuff, I could not believe how forward dilana was with just shitting on everyone else. She didn't even hesitate, she just went for it. I understand that she is in a competition and she's only seeing herself, where as a lot of the other contestants are sort of trying to help each other as well as be in it for themselves but she was just selfish. And a lot of her comments as well make her quite cocky. No normal person would just start talking shit like that and to the press!!! I can't believe it! I ain't no celebrity, but i've done some journalism and even though they believe in their ethics, they bend them too. They can ask you anything they want and make it not look like they just crossed a line, some of them are very good at that. You don't have to answer their questions at ALL, you're not obligated to! So if there is a question you don't want t answer... i mean, come on. But in Dilana's case, it looked like she was more than willing to answer these questions. IDIOT

Dave, thanks heaps for your great blogs! very entertaining, its great to see you call anyone on anything on rockstar SN. i was happy to see patrice finally go home! now the competition is going to get interesting! i was a huge dilana fan(still am) but it will still be intersting to see whos going home next, keep up the good work
ps lovin TPC, its getting good air time down here in new zealand!

Dave,
Nice spanking on Dilana tonight, you stopped just short of her shedding a few crocks.
I am getting tired of Dilana I hate to say, and I am not impressed with the combination of her voice and SN but then again I was not really that impressed with the first song they debuted (Didn't Big Sugar do a huge hit song about leaving the lights on??) I wasn't much of a Toby fan either but the new song they did tonight did sound pretty good and their vocals did not clash like they had with Dilana. I am going for Lukas, Storm or Ryan, none of which I was that impressed with in the beginning but have seriously won me over, Storm got me with the "Anything Anything" cover she did to win herself the encore and Ryan has consistently changed evolved and impressed. Lukas does coast a lot, but his version of "creep" was bang on beautiful. These are simply my opinions though..
Totally looking forward to your show on the Edge today. I am loving the She won't last and blue bruises track most.

Posted by: Tracey at August 24, 2006 02:59 AM

Something to think about:

If this was a show that did not show the contestants in the mansion, and only showed them performing, how would that effect how you feel about them then?

You may not like Dilana in her private moments, but how many of our favourite performers do we get to see in their private moments? She is being filmed 24 hours a day, and this is the worst that she has done? If anyone filmed me 24 hours a day I guarantee that it would be much uglier than that. Most of our "stars" are probably royal jerks in their own homes, but because we like their performances, we assume they must be nice people.

Judge the contestants on their performances, and we will end up with the best person for the job. Judge them on who you like as a person and we will end up with Taylor Hicks.

Posted by: arwen at August 24, 2006 03:05 AM

I think that was Dave's arguement a few days back when he said he can only comment on the short pieces they see on performance and elimination nights. He doesn't see the reality episode like we do from our loungerooms. He has said he hasn't gotten as personally involved this year either so he can stay more objective.

You are going great Dave :)

Posted by: Maree in Aus at August 24, 2006 03:17 AM

It was uncomfortable watching the vultures descend on Dilana. Obviously the people "in charge" do not know what they are doing because tonight's presentation was not entertainment, but hey - I have the option to change the channel. Although all of the editing was designed to portray Dilana as a witch, it was utter nonsense. She thinks so and so is a pain in the butt, and so and so wants to spend time with his family. When did being honest become synonymous with backstabbing. These are contestants who have not mastered bland and phony pc skills. Last season JD was praised for breaking the rules, I assumed these were the rules of convention. Ripping them apart in front of a national audience in order to emphasize that they need "tough skins" to make in the business is not only unprofessional, but is also insidiously misleading when it is guised as being justified with selective "reality bits." I hold the judges and the host to a higher standard than I do the contestants.

Dave Please tell me Sept 13th is coming soon...

Ok so last night we had the TPC listening party at Snitch! It was GREAT, fun, made some new friends and saw a lot of old friends, pimped TPC to anyone who came in. We had a trivia contest for prizes and of course we played (ONe) over and over. In fact the bar wanted the promo copy to play on their regular nights.
Sue and Kristen did an awesome job. Kristen drew sigils out front in 21st St.
Too bad you guys couldn't make it!

Posted by: Robin (Peebs) at August 24, 2006 03:58 AM

Great show last night! Almost every thought I had about each contestant was vocalized by you or Supernova.. Dave, if you get a chance, you should really watch the webisode 6 where they have to write lyrics to a Supernova track.. it is very telling and I believe it will shock you more than the press webisode in regards to Dilana.. but I have to give her mad props for Every Breath You Take, espescially the way she fit her name into the song, that was fresh..
Lukas has a good look and to me he represents the new wave of music, but I guess I'm just stubborn.. I would rather see someone like Andy Wood swooning around the stage.. Magni's vocal on Fire didn't really impress me, not sure why Gilby loved it.. it was funny watching Ryan in the beginning, he seemed almost drunk when he would stumble around belting out vocals, but he has really grown since then and seems like he could be molded into what they want.

Posted by: VeryLittleDaylight at August 24, 2006 04:03 AM

Well, you called it, Dave!

No suprise that Patrice went home.... I just don't know why Toby and Magni were in the bottom three. I hope to be home next week so I can vote!

I am not a big Lukas fan.... I liked him at first, but he is getting on my nerves....

And what did Dilana do?

After the interview thing, you got to wonder if she is right for this band....

Always,
me

lots more comments round here recently huh?
is it due to rockstar or TPC?

Thank you for providing this outlet for fans to connect with you. I was blown away by Magni last night! Hope to see Magni, Lukas and Toby in the final 3.

Posted by: jerriman at August 24, 2006 04:10 AM

hey Dave... why do you think that Magni has been in the bottom three last two weeks??? I think that is a big part of it´s because Iceland isn´t big enough contry, and all the americans (and austrailia) are voting for there guy/girl. it´s not fear i think. but thank u for a great show..

Posted by: Crasy girl at August 24, 2006 04:12 AM

No one has said anything about Patrice busting her lip , THat has to suck. The last night your a part of the international tv and you bust your lip .
But the Dilana Bashing was just as funny. Good show . They needed this badly. Reality on a reality show.

Posted by: Cody from South of Disorder at August 24, 2006 04:19 AM

Well I'm completely thrilled that Dilana has been exposed. I was sucked in from the beginning with her, but then I started to notice some things watching the webisodes. I finally came to the realization that she's faking her personality. And last night. She says she wants to choke Lukas every day, but she cares? wtf ever lady. As far as her comment to Ryan, yeah she has been a front runner, but she can still fizzle out. Honestly I've been getting bored with her performances because they aren't getting any stronger. With Ryan atleast there's pleasant surprise and he leaves you wondering, what's next? I wonder if the band wants to put up with someone who seems to be pms'ing 24/7. And btw, will you please kick storm in the ass and remind her how badass she is so she will stop being nice and taking the crap songs? I think the gen pop has yet to see what that lady is truly capable of. Anyhoo, Dave you're great and I can't wait to see what you have to say about the elimination show. That was one of the most interesting episodes to date.

Posted by: Marlena at August 24, 2006 04:40 AM

I feel a lot like Marlena, I was sucked in by Dilana's act at first, but too many little things have happened since then.

I'm also awaiting Storm The Badass to emerge. We all know she's there.

Morning

I'm confused and sorry for posting this here Dave but I have to address something I'm confused about (feel free to delete this if you need to).

Linda what ring are you talking about because I keep seeing you mention it?

Lukas has a girlfriend/fiance and has had one for a very long time.

I meant to ask this yesterday when I read your comment about wearing it on his left hand.

/cheers

Dude, Hendrix's Fire...WOW, that was fun fun fun...what a performance! Who cares about Supernova, I want Magni to tour with the house band. They totally rock together.

Posted by: HOUSEBAND ROCKS at August 24, 2006 04:55 AM

Good on you Dave for calling out Dilana on the way she treated the other rockers! How stupid and arrogant can you be to bad mouth the other contestants in front of cameras and to the media? I would like to see her in the bottom 3 next week.

As for the other rockers...

*Ryan has improved a lot - I didn't like him in the beginning, but I do now.

*Lukas is still incredibly annoying to me - the way he constricts his voice when he sings is really off-putting!

*Magni, Toby & Storm are all great performers on stage - they're comfortable & talented.

In my opinion Magni or Toby should win...they're entertaining and either of them could like 'right' with the band.

Btw, I am an Australian, but my overall favourite is still Magni. And contrary to what Toby said, "EVS" is NOT a saying in Australia.

Posted by: Emma at August 24, 2006 04:57 AM

Magni has the wherewithall to carry this off, however why -- asks me -- is he always the bottom three. Perhaps he is too humble -- what with over inflated egos playing 'the game'.

Lukas comes across as a prick, but over the weeks we see that prickish behaviour may be due to insecurity. I love his accent. He has heaps of charisma and talent, but a disregard to the audience which could bring him down.

Storm just rocks. She needs a bit more oomph to be able to carry it off though, and not just get commented to by the band due to her body, femaleness -- THEY then come across as pricks who don't deserve her anyway. She clearly is smart enough to play the game but her heart may be her downfall.

Ryan: intensity, scowling... um whatevah. Loved his original song, but wouldn't pay money for it.

Dilana, super self centred, heartless. As I said before, shocking smoker's hack voice that would grate my nerves. She does nothing for me from the first week when she ruined Lithium and embarrassed me with her stage shakey-freaky-leggy-doesn't-do-the-song-justice moves. Don't think that voice will last much longer til she has to have one of those mike things to hold over her throat like on South Park.

Toby -- try hard, but fuck he is good. Again so many of the singers seem too young to be playing with such old fogilistics. It's kinda creepy.

Did I miss anyone? If I did, sorry!!

Yeah, who says to be a front man/woman in a band you have to be the centre of attention. The 'singer' will definitely be competing with Tommy for that position. Can any of these guys do it? Most of them should be lucky to be able to front original bands where the energy is fresh and music new. I guess they get exposure on this show. Like as if we would follow the band off of Fox 8.

I actually don't care who wins, it is just highly entertaining television.

Sorry for rant, but thanks for allowing me to post :)

Hi Dave! I think it is so great that you read the comments on your site.

I just wanted to let you know that a lot of people in Europe had problems voting on Tuesday. I don´t know why. They just got the info site about how to vote even though the voting was open.

I have seen on the supernovafans.com site that a lot of people in Iceland and one in Belgium couldn´t vote at all.

Posted by: Iris at August 24, 2006 04:59 AM

er may have posted too soon... Dilana did fuck up some Nirvana song (in my view anyway I was cringing) -- was it Lithium?

Posted by: zuzu_jane at August 24, 2006 05:00 AM

I agree with the person above who says that you really need to look at the originals that the rockers wrote to the SN track. Unfortunately SN has let go the one person who could really ratchet up their songs.

And I would pay for one of the originals if it was on sale. Can you please convince MB to put the originals up for sale? And listen to them yourself. Because a big twist in this show could be bringing back the person who wrote the best track.

Every week his performance gets better and better! the last one where he played his original was amazing!! He is growing and getting better with every performance and every encore where the others remain the same!!
i really respect your opinion on that show because your comments make so much sense! WOuld LOVE to see you and Ryan perform together cause u guys are hot!

I could not wait until this morning to see what the world had to say. I shall keep up with it as the day goes by. Now a few words from the old lady:
Patrice leaving was not a surprise. I thought Toby did a better job with SN than Dilana did. Still not too impressed with SN itself though. I thought Magni was the best he has ever been in a rock venue.
Dilana's replies did not only ring false, but the damage control was too little too late, and lets face it what the hell are you going to say when called out on nation television.Don't buy the I'm just a singer crap she had to have to deal with the public and press once in a while. If she made a mistake as she claims in was a damn long one as she has been putting down her fellow rockers since Vegas. What kind of idiot talks like that when the cameras are running when they have already been called out for it,and it had nothing to do with being honest as she claims. She is just trying to promote herself by putting a negative spin on the others. What she said to Ryan after his success that night was just plain mean. I guess since Dave and SN liked his performance so much she is saying they don't know what the hell they are talking about. Always a good way to impress the boss. What a dummy!! She also could be trying to win by trying to destroy the others confidence. As you guys and Dave all know I always have my Momma/Nana gear on and see what people are really feeling and be kind about it, but this is just ridiculous. I realize she is making good press and ratings for the show but there is never an excuse for that kind of stomping on others hearts

Posted by: NANA at August 24, 2006 05:29 AM

Yes, that "I totally meant what I said" *BOOOOOO* "NO I didn't mean that" moment was fucking KILLER and totally showed Dilana's apologies and explanations up for what they were - shallow, insincere fakes. I'll be very suprised if there isn't a voter backlash next week.

Toby I thought did a great job with a much better SuavePorn track, much better than the cheesefest Dilana brought last week. Still hasn't got the SuavePorn out of the woods, but maybe not ALL of their songs will suck ass. Here's to hoping. He's getting better every week, but still not up there.

Lukas has the greatest songwriting talent (Dave go to www.lukas-rossi.com and download Who Am I, it's a great track for SRL, fuck it it's a great track FULL STOP) but at this point in the competition his lack of experience putting on a "big" show as opposed to a tiny club act is starting to show a bit - the stage is swallowing him a little.

Magni did great on Fire, but again I can't see him putting on a full 1 1/2 hour arena show somehow.

Ryan's original was fucking GREAT. Brilliant. At this point, I don't think he's the front runner, I think he's too good for SuavePorn. Ryan + House Band For Teh Win.

Storm. Meh. I can see her fronting SuavePorn, but I wouldn't pay to see either of them live.

Dilana. Still the best fit for SuavePorn, still wouldn't pay to see either of them.

Did someone send Patrice and Phil the Big Bumper Book of Irony? One chooses "Failure" and the other chooses "Middle of the Road" for their final Im-about-to-get-the-axe-here's-what-I'm-all-about performance. Brilliant descriptions for both perfomers.

Posted by: slutmonkey57b at August 24, 2006 05:33 AM

Dave
This is a great show and I enjoy watching as opposed to the other crap on TV. Your viewpoints and commentary are pretty much on the money. Here is mine: if Dilana didn't show her true self now she would have later and then wha the fuck would SN do? on tour with someone who all of sudden starts running at the mouth!
It would be different if she had some history with the band, Like Axl, DLR, Sammy, Chris, etc(you get my point? what did EVH call it? LSD?)
The other thing is, she has no experience handling the media. However did you? Did Tommy? Did Jason or Gilbey? No... And you didn't give a shit either you were ROCKERS and you were gonna kick some ass and get laid!! However now that you all made it it's down to Business! It's not til you guys start getting close to 40 til you start smoothing it out. You're main stream now. That's cool! But geez let's go back and look at what Tommy was up to.

That's all 4 now. Cool Show! Thanks. Come down to Puerto Rico some time and throw down some Rock & Roll!

Posted by: Duane Chez at August 24, 2006 05:36 AM

my 2cents; Toby w/SN was pretty good, felt like a band instead of the nervous giggles I experienced last week with Dilana... Magni on FIRE! wo! So with Patrice gone it's really gonna get down to it I hope. So here's my wishlist for the next show hehe :-)

Dilana - I wish you were a beer by the Cycle Sluts from Hell
Storm - Metal Messiah by the Great Kat
Magni - Mother by Danzig
Toby - Do ya think I'm sexy by Rod Stewart, Revolting Cocks version
Ryan - Violently Happy by Björk
Lukas - Dead Skin Mask by Slayer

Let a girl dream, eh?

Posted by: sigga at August 24, 2006 05:42 AM

Being from Iceland, I'm a Magni supporter. I also admire the talent and consistency in performance that Dilana has showed. I don't think she was arrogant or anything like that in regards to her answers to the media ... I just think she gave in to the pressure, maybe she was starstruck by all the media folks, she definately came accross as very inexperienced and insecure with it all ... doesn't change the fact that you don't do that ... not to your peers, your enemies, friends, family, anybody ... it serves no good purpose, for anyone ...

Posted by: Tóti at August 24, 2006 05:50 AM

Dave,
First of all, I'm a woman. With that said, I just want to encourage you to consider something...does SN really want a woman in their band? I just don't see ANY chemistry between those guys and Dilana or Stormy. PLEASE consider the female presence. If Dilana acted this way toward her mansion mates, it's just part of who she is. Do you really think she'll just never show that side of her again? I think she's power hungry and the guys should be warned. And Stormy? Um...I can't quite articulate it, but something's strange about Stormy and, for me, it's hard to tell just who she is. Her comments back to the couch are very awkward and uncomfortable. These women are AWESOME and VERY talented. I'm just not convinced SN should rock with a female lead. I would not follow SN if they ended up w/ a female lead...it becomes a totally different kind of band. Rock is rock, but I hope you know what all my babble is trying to get across...?

Hey Dave WELCOME TO TORONTO!!!!

I see Panic Channel is on MuchOnDemand today.... that is 2 blocks from my office so I called to get tickets but apparently I am TOO OLD to attend because you must be 16-26 years old to ride this ride!

Oh well.... maybe I'll walk by after work. I'll be outside with my nose pressed against the window along with all the other old fogies in their 30s, lol.

I've got to post a MASSIVE thank you to Sue, Kristen, and Peebs for putting together such a cool time last night! These gals worked seriously hard to make it happen, and I had such a great time! They created atmosphere (loved the candy!), and went over the top with all the details. The only thing missing was the band itself. How funny would it have been to have had one of those cardboard stand-ups? heehee... They were with us in spirit. Actually, their arms were there, ;)

It was great to see Denise and Mike again too, and to meet the other guests that came. You guys know how to rock. We're definitely going to have to plan that dinner in the city one night this fall.

On the drive home I giggled to myself, thinking "It's a sign of getting older when you wouldn't think of leaving without helping clean up the club." :)

Mwwwaaaah.
You guys rock.

Spreading the love and thanks to the agents,
Deena

Dave -- THANK YOU SO MUCH for calling Dilana on that crap. Shady, shady. Now. I wonder if Supernova is questioning her at all. She is clearly out for number 1. How does that translate when you're part of a band? Kudos to Lukas for handling it so well & to Ryan & Magni for flat calling out Dilana on her BORING (that's right, I said it) performances.

Oh, and I totally agree with Marlena, Dave. Please watch the songwriting clinic. Oh my was Dilana's song awful.

Posted by: lisbeth at August 24, 2006 06:10 AM

Ok, Dilana got knocked off her high horse. She will be back up soon...But remember, controversy keeps her in the spotlight longer...The girl can deliver her SN song was more rock than the poppy tune done by Toby. Somehow I just don't see this being a long term gig... These guys have too many outside interests.

Posted by: jackie at August 24, 2006 06:10 AM

Magni rocked last nite and both my husband and I agreed that we would pay money to see Magni front the house band any time! Dave thanks for setting Dilana straight. whatever her reasons/excuses, her comments and general behaviour with the media and towards Ryan were just rude.

Posted by: Lea at August 24, 2006 06:19 AM

My sweet diplomatic Dave.. thanks for "practicing these principles in all our affairs" I feel that you handled the Dilana issue very well. You said what needed to be said without shaming or harming. Dilana made a bad choice with her words, however, that doesn't take away from anything that she has done in the past weeks. Whatever "it" is Dilana has, she appears to have wisdom beyond her years. Be safe in your travels Dave and come back soon. I admire and respect you and your work.

Posted by: Tanya at August 24, 2006 06:26 AM

Dav,
Wow, what a show. I'm glad that you had that little talk with Dilana, She is still my fav, but she needed the "spanking"! Magni rocked, I will keep up with him, even if SN passes on him.. Ryan, Magni and Dilana are my picks. I still wan to see you run around the pool naked...Have a great trip. Your in my dreams...

Patrice was not right for this band but I don't think we've heard the last from her. Her original song was the definition of power pop & I think there is room for her sound in the vapid wasteland that is pop music, she's cute enough to pull it off.

What a dissapointment that SN is not a metal band...they're really neutering themselves and might as well have a girl or Lukas front them, they'll be perfect for lilith fair.

Like Dave I'm just happy to see rock music on tv. the show is fun, the performances are all pretty good even the one's that aren't popular.

Posted by: john at August 24, 2006 06:47 AM

dave...thanks for finally putting the brakes on the runaway train that was Dilana's out of control ego and step on everyone attitude...it had to be done...what some of her fans don't realize is that yes her character flaws and rediculous attitude does matter to the people whom are going to have to spend endless months with her on the road together with out wanting to kill each other or deal with her games or feel that they have to watch their back...the fact is she's a cover singer nothing more and sn in my opinion needs alot more than that from whom ever wins this...cheers

Posted by: chris at August 24, 2006 06:50 AM

Wow. It was even worse than I realized with Dilana. I did watch her implode on the webisode, but the whole "you'd have been nothing without the house band" and "I get more votes than you because I work harder" was just too much. You gave her the opportunity to pull her ass out of the fire, and yet she still chose to say "um, nope, I meant it. He was nothing without the house band." Even if she thought it, why would she say that to someone, in front of cameras, on international television unless she thought the rest of the world would agree with her? We don't, thankfully. It's only a mistake if you don't keep saying those things over and over and over again. I didn't care much for the whining about how you were all trying to make her look like the bitch. It wasn't editing that put those words in her mouth...you asked her to explain and she stood by the statements. She said to the world that she'd punch the lights out of her own young. Why would SN want to deal with someone who will shove a knife in their backs if it got her somewhere? I've been disappointed with her vocals each week because nothing changes. Her attitude only makes that worse.

I liked that SN track much better this week, and it had everything to do with Toby. I understood the lyrics and enjoyed the performance. I didn't understand a word Dilana said last week, so I stopped paying attention and it became annoying background noise.

Magni rocked last night. He sounded amazing and his performance was incredible! Toby did a great job on the STP tune as well.

My top 4 are Lukas, Magni, Ryan and Toby, in random order. Dilana used to be in the top 3 for me, but no longer, based on both her performances and her attitude. She was right about one thing, though. The house band is absolutely amazing. Maybe they should do RS next season to find a singer to tour with them!

Scale 1 (yeck!) - 10 (best), SN latest new "song" debut last night:
lyrics: 1.5
music: 2.0

Old and tired. Tommy needs to quit trying to beat the drums to death and try enhancing the music....or else bring in the house band drummer...now, he's something to listen to. In fact, I think Tommy, Jason, and Gilby should be in the bottom 3 next.

Soo good to see all of you!

Dave, your blog rocks! Ok it was time for Patrice to go! Magni was awesome last night but I have always liked him! Lukas I like I just don't know if I see him fronting the band, Ryan on the other hand has changed it up every single week and he was not my favorite but I will say he has really grown on me. Dilana is a great singer/performer.. ok maybe her head has gotten a little big lately but if you all remember JD got a big head too and he still won and was the best one for INXS! JD pissed a lot of people off with a few things he said too.. hopefully Dilana will live and learn and be a little more humble next time! Based on performance Dilana Rocks! Based on personality I like Magni the best and I think the man can sing and he proved that last night! They are all talanted or they wouldn't still be there so now it's just WHO IS BEST FOR SN! My vote is down to 3 Dilana, Ryan or Magni with Lukas coming in 4th... time will tell!

Posted by: Gina at August 24, 2006 06:56 AM

Yeah pretty much just want to agree with everyone and say that I think it was justified that Patrice packed her bags and got the hell out of there. Was dissapointed to see Toby grace the bottom 3, I think he is better than given credit for. I mean he crushed his song the other night, but hey I voted...
Keep up the good work D-Nav.

Dave,

Thanks for keeping up with all us fans and keeping us "in the loop" as to what's going on in your very talented brain. My thoughts:

1) Lukas tries too hard to be "unique". He's talented musically, but his voice is hard to listen to week after week, too forced. He sings with a British accent, and he doesn't speak with one. Someone needs to ask him why.
2) Storm and Dilana, sorry if it sounds sexist, just don't see them selling too much with a chick fronting them.
3) Magni, Ryan, and Toby all could make it work.

I'm a little surprised, maybe I shouldn't be, at the "simplicity" of the Supernova songs. Not seeing any uniqueness in the music.

Thanks for the site

Posted by: Berddog at August 24, 2006 07:03 AM

I think Magni should be the winner. He totally pulled off a real version of Hebdrix's Fire. I was totally impressed.

The problem is that he doesn't have the flare/drama that is getting all the attention for the other Rockers especially Dilana and Lukas.
Even Ryan who I like better is kind of a drama queen, just a more pc one.

I'm not reading all these comments, don't have the time, but, I do want to say that Dilana's 'sorry this sorry that' was only 'cause she was put on blast. Learning experience? Please. She's not some teenager who was kept away from TV, magazines or any other kind of media. She knew the repercussions of the dirt she spewed.

Posted by: Jenn at August 24, 2006 07:11 AM

Serafina- honey I am 55, so I was totally joking about the engagement deal. I gave Lukas a ring at at a results taping a week ago. He was wearing it on his left hand ring finger. It is a large silver ring. You could see it real good when he was answering his feelings about what Dilana said. I am sure he is being kind and wearing it becasue I told him that he reminds me of my son that I lost.

Niki, get to the taping real early. There are a lot of VIPs at the Sunday tapings. FYI, fans are not considered VIPs.

Dave, should we presume that you haven't been able to read all the comments? Wow Dilana should check out 67 and she how she crucified herself. Thanks Dave for being such a good spoat about all the bitching and moaning. xoxo

Now that Patrice has gone the comp can really get started!!!!!!

I know Lukas is a very popular choice but I think his vocals sound the same in every preformance and doenst have a very good vocal range. To be quite honest I dont think I could listen to him on a whole album. Even though i love Dilana she is in the same boat as Lukas. BUT they are my choice to watch in concert as they are two very talented entertainers. Its a pity they dont have a voice like Magni or Ryan then you can say they have the whole package. unfortunately I dont think out of these VERY talented group of singers there is one person who has the complete package right for Supernova. I'm finding they either have a fantastic voice but not the right look or have the look but dont have the vocal sound to pull it off.

Gotta ask you Dave.... What do you think of INXS now with JD?????? As a proud Australian who loved Michael I think INXS really made the correct choice with JD and he does fit vocally and in look. Which I feel is lacking at the moment on rockstar.

Three times is a charm, duh sorry. I kept losing my connection, so I didn't think it posted.

Posted by: Linda at August 24, 2006 07:18 AM

Dave I wanna give you a big wet one for confronting Dilana last night. Yeah Baby! If she does it to the people in the house, she could very well dish on Gilby, Tommy or Jason....
The competition (?) has been totally one sided to the point of, why watch. You can
clearly see that Dilana is favored. Why not just stop the show now, give it to Dilana
and be done with it. I don't want to take anything away from her talents, but she too
has faults and no one has stood up and confronted her, but yet the others have
been picked apart... Her last performance was so-so but no one said a word other than "...another great performance." Not.

Posted by: cj at August 24, 2006 07:18 AM

Thank you for taking issue with Dilana about her comments. Regardless of her personality she must realize that you can not treat peers, bandmates, co-workers, etc. with a lack of respect. SN has to think that she could pull that stunt on them at some point and I don't think that would make any of them very happy.

Both times that Magni has been put in the bottom three he looks like he might begin to cry. He is obviously very sweet and sensitive, maybe the Rockstar life is not for him. I agree with your "thick skin" comment. I like his style but it doesn't seem perfect for SN. Toby was good, Patrice was the same. It is about time they cut her. Why did Tommy seem so distraught, it is obvious to everyone that she didn't fit.

I bet Dilana is in the bottom 3 next week.......

Get back to the States soon and tell us where TPC will be touring.........please!

Hey Dave!

You really should have hammered Dilana harder-she is totally full of shit-how old is she? And she doesnt know when to keep her mouth shut? Is she going to pull a Richard Hatch and claim that she was "playing to win"? BTW Dave, your sparkling personality and razor-sharp wit have me howling every Tues/Wed night-keep it coming, baby!

Posted by: Glittergirl at August 24, 2006 07:22 AM

There's a huge difference between Dilana's apology this season, and JD's last...and that is sincerity. Dilana was upset at being caught and called out, and tried to stumble her way around the facts. That whole 'I want to be Lukas's dove' thing was just crap. When JD realized he hurt peoples' feelings, he delivered a heartfelt apology, and he changed his behaviour. I am so curious to see what happens back at the mansion this week. Will Dilana realize her mistakes?

Posted by: cindy at August 24, 2006 07:23 AM

Dilana definitely put her foot in her mouth this time, however, I don't really believe that she was being malicious. She seemed very confident unlike the other "rockers" who were kind of squirming in their seats when confronted about their housemates. I loved the way Lukas handles himself. He's awesome. I definitely think this competition is between Lukas and Dilana. Dave dude, you totally jumped down Dilana's throat, which is understandable, but why didn't anyone say anything to Ryan? He said he would shoot himself if he had to share the stage with Dilana and she responded by saying she would shoot him first. What about his lack of respect for her? Anyway, they are all awesome. I can't wait to see more of them play with Supernova because that is the true test.

Posted by: Amy at August 24, 2006 07:24 AM

hey dave...your website rocks (as you do!!) I check in on a daily basis, and I just love the fact that you are like, REAL..(ya know what I mean?!?) Anyway, this whole deal with Dilana, she has been my fave ever since day one, and I think SN would totally rock with a female lead. Everyone has to go thru their own "learning curves" and I think this last couple of weeks have definitely been, well, instructional for her. Ya know, some people have to learn the hard way, and the ass-chewing you gave her...OUCH! I am really hoping that she didn't write her own ticket out of the band. I totally identify with Dilana and applaud her for not going the tramp route to get where she wants to be. Keep on keeping on Dave...Luv ya!

Posted by: moonbeam at August 24, 2006 07:28 AM

Last season JD Fortune was the performer that talked smack about the other artists. Now Dilana is...
Didn't seem to make a difference to the band then, so it might not this season either. I admit she seems more pissed off than contrite during the show (especially by Ryan's comment) but if she learns the lesson isn't that what it's all about?

Posted by: Charlie at August 24, 2006 07:32 AM

Dave props to you. Way to lay it to Dilana. I loved her but lately..... The best perfomance of the year was last night and it was Magni with Fire. Finally a real rock performance i would pay to see. He has been my favorite for awhile now. I really hope he sticks around.

Posted by: jennifer at August 24, 2006 07:35 AM

The whole Lukas can't sing thing is bullshit.Try listening to his original stuff. In fact he has easily the most vocal range of anyone on the show.Magni is pretty good too but doesn't have the range.

So Lukas isn't showing his voice big deal.He will. The show ain't over yet just keep watching.

Posted by: KeithMoonLives at August 24, 2006 07:39 AM

It's not fair that the voting is at 3am-6am here in Iceland and in Europe. That's why Magni stays in the bottom 3.

Posted by: Iceland at August 24, 2006 07:41 AM

Dave - Did Toby come off as strong live during the taping as he did on television? That boy rocked the house, according to my television.

Posted by: LA at August 24, 2006 07:47 AM

Dear Dilana,

Saying you're sorry "if someone's feelings got hurt" is a non-apology, and the coward's way out.

Own your mistakes and your apology. Simply say, " I take responsibility for my actions. I am sorry. I was wrong."

You are a huge talent. You don't need to attack others or degrade them to amplify yourself.

Posted by: moriah at August 24, 2006 07:48 AM

Hello Dave -
Thanks for being so gentle (on Rockstar) while doing such a tough job. It was tough for me to watch, as I'm sure it was for you to do. However, I guess if someone exhibits a pattern of behavior that affects others including the band she might join, then it was justified. So... just thanks... for being such a nice person.
Regards,

Hi Dave. If there is a third Rockstar will you host again when your band really takes off? You are amazing and honest with your comments. You and Brook are great. Being Canadian, it would be great to have bragging rights for 2 seasons so I really hope Lukas wins the audition. I agree with you that Lukas and Dilana are the top candidates to date.

Posted by: Shirley at August 24, 2006 07:54 AM

First thing I have to do is get out my dorky fangirl stuff. I am completely in love with the album(oNe) and have hooked my husband, best friend and one of my husbands co-workers into it pretty quickly. Hoping to see a TPN tour make its way to the Carolina's sometime in the near future. Ive been reading the site for the last few months and really enjoy the blog.

Ok got that out of my system on to supernova:

Dilana's comments were way out of line and it was good to call her out on it. To her credit instead of arguing about why she did it she owned up to making a big mistake. Still think she is the one to beat in this. She has shown she can be mouthy but then last year J.D. did pretty much the same thing and he ran away with it.

I LOVED Magni's performance of Fire last night. He needs to do more shows like last night to win this thing.

Posted by: princessisis at August 24, 2006 08:05 AM

I think the really big question that arises from last night's show is:

who's the designer for that hoodie that Navarro was wearing?

Anyone? Anyone?

Posted by: xghlph at August 24, 2006 08:06 AM

Has anyone else seen the Levi's TV commercial for their Straight Jeans that uses Johnny Cash's song "I Walk the Line"? Doesn't it sound aLOT like Dilana's arrangement (for which she got oodles of praise for being so "original")?

Posted by: Kell at August 24, 2006 08:07 AM

First... Dave - I must admit I really wasn't much into "Dave Navarro", but since seeing you and hearing your input on this show... Well let's say, I have a new found respect for you. I am impressed.

On with my show SN comments... BTW, loved the new song.

These last few contestants are definately getting record deals! With or without SN.

Patrice should have went some time ago... too folky for the show, and actually boring.

IMO, Magni NEEDS to be by himself as "MAGNI". He would be much better without supernova (I like supernova, but Magni is a different caliber and would be BETTER on his own) What I love about Magni is he is SOLID EVERY time and he is such a positive spirit!

I think Ryan is the best fit for THIS BAND. Ryan ROCKS! Awesome, I mean AWESOME original!!! I would buy the CD!

Lukas is good, but not very "manly". Something about him doesn't sit right with me. Great performer, just not sure about him yet...

Delana I decided is a gossiping WOMAN :) Good voice, but just not convinced on her ability to be here (all things considered)Love the voice though, it reminds me of Stevie Nicks... sexy & gives me chills when I hear it!

Storm will be gone next week (I hope) GREAT voice, but she is not a trashy rocker type... not her genre, this is not a negative comment, she just isn't a good fit!

I almost gave up on Toby, but he rocked with Supernova's song! I was impressed! I would buy that CD

I think SN should make one album with the remaining contestants, good pr stuff. Different songs with different singers... $$$ I don't know, just a thought.

Looking forward to next week!

Songwriting:

Who thinks that the second original song from SN sounds like Queens of the Stoneage? I think Ryan might be too deep for SN - his writing seems more serious that what SN commands (not that they would allow anyone who wins this competition to write with them anyway.)

Vocals:

All Lukas needs to do to win this is to face the audience and sing. His voice, Dilanas, and Magnis' seems to be in the right range for SN. Toby's is too high and Storm's doesn't work for me either. Only my opinion of course. What do I know.

Media:

Didn't it seem like Dilana and Lukas got the toughest questions? Maybe Dilana was the only one who took the bait? Maybe the show wants to portray them as out in front? Did we even see Storm or Patrice get interviewed? I can't remember.

Dave:

You hit the nail on the head with the think skin comment. Could you mention to the producers to lay off with the fucking Nirvana songs?

Geez Dave - you've become the vent for the Dilana haters. Funny how fans on an internationally read blog choose to do the same thing they fault Dilana for. Man, you were right about thick skins. Funny too how they try to sway YOU when you have already said you want to be objective.

Still wating for ONe tp show up in my local record stores...

Posted by: zippy at August 24, 2006 08:13 AM

enough already about the dilana thing - geez! it's all in the editing! don't you remember in the earlier webisodes she was depicted as nurturing (esp to Dana) and sensitive? how do we know all those comments weren't taken out of context? remember how lukas dissed on jill and Zayra in the earlier shows? how do we know that ryan wasn't bragging about his performance 100x before Dilana chimed in?! They have the cameras on them 24/7 and we hear 4 sentences from each contestant at the time. Even if I am totally wrong and she really is a bitch to live with - who the hell cares? i just want a good frontman or woman for this band. i'm not going to hang out with them, i'm just going to listen to them. Dave, if you had a hand in the editing, kudos to you - you've created tons of buzz. i bet more people will watch next week than ever before - great producing, man!

Posted by: gw at August 24, 2006 08:14 AM

I enjoyed Magni's performance of "Fire" more than any performance I've seen so far. It was awesome! I don't understand how he's been in the bottom 3. I think he would be the best choice to front the band. Lots of people love Lukas, but he just doesn't do it for me. Dilana's a great performer and I thought she sounded good with SN, but the attitude's not so great. I look forward to the show every week! And Dave, you are so HOT.

Posted by: Nancy at August 24, 2006 08:16 AM

and another thing - ryan also said that he was embarassed to be in the same competition as Dana - nobody called him on that! i bet everyone of them has said something negative at one time or another.

Posted by: gw at August 24, 2006 08:17 AM

Dave, you've been waiting for the WOW! performance from Magni. If Fire didn't do it for you then I guess nothing from him will cause that was the bomb!

Posted by: Julia at August 24, 2006 08:20 AM

DN ~ Thanks for putting Dilana in her place. I was a fan of hers, but I dont think I could stand to hear that voice for a two hour show, not to mention the way she talked shit about everyone. Everyone else seemed hesitant to answer some questions about the others but she just blasted them. Hopefully she will be in the bottom three next week. And what is up with that hair-do she had last night? Looked ridiculous! Reminded me or Pippi Longstocking or princess Leah (sp?) I was always told if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. Guess her upbringing did not include manners. Shes just rude.

Thanks for allowing all of us to post our comments...and taking the time to read them. YOU ROCK DAVE! and look delicious!

Yeah...this episode was a no brainer. Patrice deserved to go home. Now the show gets real interesting. Anyways...Dilana is a stuck up Bitch!! I had a lot of respect for her but now its all down the drain. She will not be able to handle a year long tour with Supernova. Guess we saw her true colors...

Watch the show last night and loved that y'all called Dilana out. She needed a harsh reality check. Even if you are not use to the press you still should have enough common sense to know what is right and wrong in the world. And on top of her bad judgement with the press she also dogged Ryan on his performance. Yes, the band is very talented...but so is the singer. She has a big head for someone that is so so (good voice, but always sounds the same). The band sounded great with Toby - more deeper than Dilana (which sounded more poppy). Can't wait to see Lukas. He is my number favorite - there is something that is just so intense about him. But all the remaining 6 are great singers.

All the contestant-bashing is too much to process. I'm just glad we have fresh performances of these great songs by people who don't sing like rank amateurs. I can't sit still, I have to rock out with my 44-year-old self. Then when the show is over, I play Magni's performances again several times because he ROCKS. I love seeing Jason and Tommy when they start playing air drums and bopping around enjoying the songs. And I just love looking at Gilby whatever he's doing! Dave, when you smile we all smile. Keep up the good work.

Hey does anybody know how to vote for the song choices for next week?

Posted by: Jess at August 24, 2006 08:39 AM

First off, Dave thanks for the blog and all the time you give your fans. Much appreciated!

On Rock Star this week: It's fine to be self-assured, but Dilana has gone way too far. I now hope Ryan wins just to spite her. I am sure Gilby, Tommy and Jason are re-thinking Dilana's potential after this week's events. Would you want someone like that in your band? I don't think they will.

I really thought Dilana had a chance to win this thing. Now I think that the fans of the show will turn on her. I predict she'll be in the bottom three next week.
