Hatchet
I'm on my way to watch another Supernova hopeful get the hatchet! If it were MY band, Zayra would be packing her things and going home tonight, but that's not my call. The guys sometimes surprise me with their choices, so it's always just as much as a mystery to me as it is to you guys. There is something about Zayra that is entertaining to watch I will say. I really think that if she went into a more elctronic/Peaches direction, she could be all right, but a rock singer she is not. It is a bizzare season because for me, it wouldn't be a tough choice. The good news is that ones that evolve and grow, get to stay longer and hopefully learn something as well as get plenty of exposure and a crash course in this public life that they are living. Plus, it's just more rock on Network Television, of which I am a huge supporter. I'll check in after the show with a spoiler and another update.
One of my favorite moments from last night's show:
The exchange between me and Patrice. That actually went on for like 10 minutes in the studio. A lot was said but the gist was aired. For the most part, my point was that these contestants have so many weeks to impress the band that they should take advantage of the time and show them different sides. Most people going into an audition only get a few minutes to try out for whatever it is they are trying out for. If you have 13 weeks, why not show the band something new?

Zarya is a freaky chick. She scares me, yet I cannot look away.
On the upside, hey, freaky 80's spaceman outfit.
I kinda want her to stick around, if only because while no, she isn't a rocksinger, she is damn amusing.

I hope that get rid of that annoying whiny bitch Jill soon. Dana improved this week. Dilana is fantastic every week. She never ceases to amaze. Lukas was good but it's the same thing every week with him. Toby should go, that version of White Wedding blew. Storm was great this week, really cranked it up a notch, great sond selection for her.
Cheers!

Dilana, Lukas and Storm are the stand outs by far!
Jill has to go - I was cringing watching her performance with Gilby, it really was so wrong in so many ways.
Sending much love your way Dave x

WE HAVE TO KEEP ZAYRA ON THE SHOW!
She is the William Hung of Rockstar and the most entertaining part of the show.

Great minds think alike. All of what you said is exactly what I was telling my friends last night. I think she (Zayra) should have went home sooner.
Posted by: Jenn at July 26, 2006 06:45 AM
Zayra reminds me of the best karaoke singer in a really bad karaoke bar.
she's just horrible.
Dilana baby...she nailed it last night!

Hey was that girl trying to be Robin Williams from that old show called , nanu nanu....
Posted by: Frank Mendoza at July 26, 2006 07:17 AM
I agree I am hoping that Zayra gets cut tonight. I really liked Dana's performance last night and your head to head with Patrica was too funny! Though I am still pulling for either Lukas or Dilana.

damn...I wish we could see the uncut version ( :
I got your point with Patrice, but it was amusing that she tried to compare her situation to you, what a biotch...maybe we should invite them all to a TPC show ( :
Posted by: blacklace at July 26, 2006 07:25 AM
Love watching the show. It seems like last year's group of rockers had a kinder gentler nature though. I was surprised at everyone's reaction to Magni last night. I liked it, but then I am an old lady so what do I know? ha ha Dana probably will get the boot before its all over, but you have to admit she has worked her butt off to give the boys what they want. Zayra is a pretty girl with some talent, but I have to tell you she is missing her calling as a stand up comic. I was going to say that Patrice would be the one to go tonight, but it might be Zayara.
Posted by: NANA at July 26, 2006 07:26 AM
I'm really, REALLY wanting a double elimination, the thought of watching some of those performers for one more week makes me cringe. That being said, I like Zayra for the comic relief,I'm hoping that Josh or Phil go home today,if I were Tommy, I'd be keeping the girls on as long as possible..but Patrice is really getting on my nerves, her facial expressions never change no matter what she is singing, kinda a quasi Alanis rip-off if you ask me...
jezzi(grinding all night long...classic!)
Posted by: jezebel at July 26, 2006 07:26 AM
Dave,
Word. The exact same things i said about Zayra 2 weeks ago. She has to go (and Patrice too, whoever first) . We've been keepin her long enough (& leave the spandex suit to Storm). At this stage, we need a serious show!
Loved Lukas performance, his intensity, the way he worked the crowd. Week after week, he's shown us what a great performer he is. He has the TOTAL package.
Though, i kinda agree on Jason about his vocal. I've watched Lukas performance clips with his band when they're doing their gigs in Canada..His vocal's awesome! He has amazing vocal range and the falsetto's just heavenly! It frustrates me that he hasn't shown any of those on RS shows.
And Dave, love the way you handle the show, rockin yet pro.
Much love.

Zayra needs to go...I've said that from day 1. Her voice isn't pleasing at all and just reminds me of a karoake singer. I agree w/the Patrice/Alanis comparison. Jill's grinding...not needed and so predictable. I thought Storm did a good job w/Anything, Anything. Dilana still going strong.
Posted by: Dawn at July 26, 2006 07:32 AM
Man, that Zayra chick is really calling to mind the Chinese actress on "So You Think Can Sing?" (or whatever it was called); I'm just waiting for her to shriek/scream and hump a bar-stool! This show is a bit of a train-wreck, right now, and I agree with Dave, once it settles in to the last 5 or so, it's going to be really fun. Patrice needs to pack up her patchouli and get the heck outta there!
Posted by: Da Pope Of Biscuit at July 26, 2006 07:33 AM
hey Frank Mendoza you mean "Mork and Mindy" ha! that's funny, I just wonder how much vaseline she had to use to get into the outfit.
Posted by: Noelle at July 26, 2006 07:38 AM
Dave, your exchange with Patrice was right on! Who does she think she is. You were on target saying she,s the one auditioning not you. Rock on Dave!!!!
Posted by: mary at July 26, 2006 07:42 AM
Yep, Zayra has to go. I was embarrassed watching Jill AT HOME ON THE TUBE. I also wish there could be double eliminations but then the show would be over too soon and I would really miss seeing Dave and The Guys twice a week. Too many of the performers have no ummph! Dilana, what can I say, she does nail it every time. I like the tone of the show with more of a no holds barred comments. Cannot believe anyone would compete without knowing the music style of the band they are auditioning for. Whew!
Posted by: whitebird at July 26, 2006 07:52 AM
Zayra totally reminds me of Bjork just way more annoying! Who knows what she'll wear tonight, it might be that swan dress......
Posted by: Alicia z at July 26, 2006 08:11 AM
Were these contestants truly the best, out of all the thousands of people that auditioned? From the get go the true comptetition has been between a talented few who truly rock, and the rest either shouldn't sing, or shouldn't sing for a rock band. Instead of choosing who was the best each week, it's more like choosing who was the worst. I adore Dilana and Storm and I'd bet it's going to come down to the two of them. Lukas fits but like Jason said, I can't imagine him singing for 2 hours like that and not loosing his voice.
Also, I really wish they weren't repeating the same songs two and three times. As much as I'm into the show, that's a let down. Most of the songs were already done on Rockstar 1. Like:
Remedy: Suzie & Patrice
Heroes: Wil & Magni
Brown Sugar: Jil & Neal
You Really Got Me: Marty & Zayra (twice)
Bring Me To Life: Zayra & Jill
Lithium: Marty & Dilana
I Alone: Marty & Ryan
If you could only see: Brandon & Phil & Chris
Cult of Personality: Ty & Phil
Roxanne: Chris & Suzie
I'm the only one: Deanna & Dana
Come as you are: JD & Josh
Alright Now: Mig & Jill
Call Me: Suzie & Zayra
I'm sure there are more that I can't remember.
There are so many great rock songs and the house band is so awesome that I can't imagine they couldn't quickly master some new tunes.
What's up with that?
Spreading the love,
Deena

I loved it when you put Patrice in her place! That was great! I agree that Zayra has to go -- too damn strange for me. And Jill is sooooo annoying although she thinks she is wonderful. Patrice bores me. I love Lukas and Dilana and Storm. I think they all hit it week after week. Ryan finally stepped up to the plate and let one fly and that was great to see. I usually mute the TV during his performance. Thanks too for this great website that I heard about when you were interviewing with 99X last week. I love the show! Thanks again!
Posted by: Sharon at July 26, 2006 08:17 AM
Zayra should forget music and become a stripper. Interesting to watch, yes. Tolerable to listen to, no. But hey, she could be the next Tila Tequila. Good for her.
Lukas, Josh, Phil, Magni...feh. Dana was great. The raspy voice and crazy eyes were awesome. She won't win this, but I'll be interested to see where she goes from here.
And Dilana...the only bad thing about Dilana is that the rest of the world didn't know about her before now. There are some talented people here, but she's the only one who could front this band. God.dess.
Dave, the show is so, SO much better now that you actually speak your mind. I only wish you could have done so last time around...I'd love to hear what you had to say to that kid that won, RJ or TJ or BM or whatever his name was.
Posted by: Helen at July 26, 2006 08:27 AM
That Zayra is something else. How she got this far is totally beyond me..heck, how she made it to the show is beyond me. (Maybe on a spaceship?)
I actually liked that Dilana..The one I said before was a bit to "acting" on stage..I thougt she did a nice chilled version of Cindi Lauper. I don't think everyone has to scream all the time. It's nice to hear ppl chill out as well.
Lucas was good also. His voice/tone bugs me slightly..But he does have some stage presence/look and I think he'd be a good front man..etc
I think I'll have to keep watching now..Just for the Zayra..heh

Dave if the show is not filmed live then how do you know the bottom 3 in the first minute of voting at the end of the show? Is the elimination show filmed on tuesday and everyone wears the same clothes they wore on sunday for that segment?
Posted by: williebert at July 26, 2006 08:47 AM
I say Zayra should stay. Even if she can't sing she's always interesting. Jill is just annoying, every time she sings I feel like I'm watching a commercial for Chevy trucks. Forget about Dana being too pop, Jill should be back in Long Island singing at Bar Mitzpahs. At least the rest of the contestants have a clue about what the band is looking for/ needs.
Posted by: rob K at July 26, 2006 09:02 AM
I love the show this season!!! My 22-year-old daughter & I watch together every show. Jason looks at least 10 years younger with his haircut. I am hoping the Zayra goes, yeah, she is a little bit of comic relief but she is pulling down the intergrity of the show. Dilana, well, we sit and wonder every week if Supernova would actually go with a woman? WE LOVE HER!!! Even if they don't choose her, I hope we continue to hear from her after the show. It is awesome to have a female rocker of her caliber which I don't think we have seen much of since the 80's. The girls in North Idaho love ya Dave and can't wait to hear the new album!!!

WOW what a difference a show can make. I was thinking Jill was a lil gal with a HUGE voice but that whole grinding thing was well, ridiculous. Im amazed that she did not notice Gilby moving away from her when she first grinded against him because I sure noticed it just watching, then only to do it again - Please - shes no longer on my list of favorites. I totally agree with Helen above, Dilana is a GODDESS! Lukas is great to watch but I still think he is way too in love with himself. Dana did step it up but she seems like a wholesome gal that just does not fit the part, no matter what she wears or how straight her hair is. As for Zayra - well she repulses me! How in the hell did she make it on the show in the first place? Patrice..well she is annoying also - what nerve she had to reply to Dave the way she did. I would have loved to see that whole thing, without the edits. Way to go Dave! I just love you on the show this year. You seem to speak your mind much more without giving a damn what the rockers think! LOVE IT!

hey Dave!
You were so right on when you put Patrice in her place last night. Who the hell does she fucking think she is anyway? There is absolutely NO comparison when it comes to my Dave and a little peasant such as herself! You Rock!
Lets all hope that Zayara or Patrice get their biotch asses voted off tonight. Go Dilana and Lukas! Love ya!

Dave, maybe we can see extended cuts of your commentary on the DVD extras? You could tell there was more to it than that.
My bottom 3 are Josh, Phil and Zayra. I would send Z home but I think that SN might send Phil home because of his movement problems with which Jason is having issues.
M.Butler, ha, we called Zayra "William Hung" last night too--they might keep her around for a little longer for the "weird" factor. She would be good doing a Missing Persons song, I think.
Have a great day, D & Fam,
Love,
Sue

Well, Dave, can't wait to see your "spoiler".
But your comment about 13 weeks to show them something new.... given the nature of who the band is, is there anything new for them to experience?
Have a great day, Dave!
Always,
me
Posted by: Angel at July 26, 2006 09:38 AM
oh, and williebert, I think they just do a quick run on the preliminary returns from voting and throw a graphic up over the previously recorded performance show while it's on.
Posted by: Sue at July 26, 2006 09:40 AM
Deena, Heart Shaped Box and Knockin' on Heaven's Door are also repeats. Jordis did both last year.
Dave, have to say, you're right on about last night's show. They've improved a lot, but Zayra just doesn't seem to be getting it. Her spanish stuff is really good, they have it up on Myspace. And even though she's entertaining to watch, and she certainly has more energy than a lot of the other contestants, she doesn't have the style of music in her to back it up.
And Patrice really does need to change it up. It HAS been the same thing week after week, and she's honestly been one of the most forgettable performers for me because she doesn't put her self out there. She doesn't put herself on the line enough, so none of her stuff has been all that raw.
Dilana's still my favorite. Last night wasn't my favorite performance of hers (Ring of Fire, all the way) because she was a bit shaky on her vocals in the beginning. But she was still amazing, especially during the chorus. And when you consider what style of song Time After Time is, she did amazing. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but I was surprised when it was one of the choices, because it's not the least bit rock. That's why I like her, she takes chances.
Lukas has potential and I KNOW he can sing, judging from those youtube videos. But I agree with Jason and am eagerly awaiting the time when he will really let go of his inhibitions and just shine.
Much Love Dave, and all,
~Ali

Great show, loved the comments, the band sounded kickass as usual and Gilby looked like he was having a blast ‘til Jill started dry humping him I don’t think he enjoyed the public simulation of her but fucking him…she has nothing compared to any of the Hot Bitches you have ever shared your stage with!!! Josh, Toby, Phil, Jill…hurry up and go home!!! A lot of people like Magni but he doesn’t do it for me…he looks pretend and not like the REAL Thing. Storm…she’s hot and the body is bang’n but I can’t get over her face…it kind of tweeks out and looks pretentiously psychotic…But I kind of like how agro she is. Zayra…I think the only reason why she is still here is because Gilby is so amused by her…then again so am I…she did look hot, though. Dana surprised the hell out of me…she sounded great and she seemed to play the guitar pretty good…you guys should get her a male hooker to fuck the shit out of her so we can see her naughty side!!! I love Lukas and he gave a great performance as usual but I agree with Jason’s comment last night…we need to see talent in multi arena’s as Dilana has displayed!!! As for her…she’s one badass Bitch that can bring it…what happens when she goes off?
Love and good vibes your way…can’t wait for the update and tonight’s episode!!!
Kisses~

So I never blog but honestly am hoping that SN reads this: If tonight's elimination ceremony consists of Josh, Zayara and Dana or Jill, even if it does shorten the season a triple elimination is a good thing. We voted for the best and didn't put them into that group for obvious reasons like they don't belong on air anymore. Cheers for Gilby and his sex comment to that twit who didn't get a clue..I'm glad she has her looks, it's all she's got and that isn't going to sell CD's. I just hope that that comment doesn't mean that the great female performers of the show are wasting their time for a band only wanting a male frontguy. Alas, I didn't buy INXS's new CD because their lead singer sucks so I can choose not to buy this one if the right girl doesn't get chosen also..Love the show sorry for the ramble, this blog thing is fun...

Da Pope I think is referring to Bai Ling...who is totally hot but is awfull (song & Dance) as hell...I have't seen her act though!!!
I forgot...wish we could have seen the whole interaction between you and patrice...and unedited DVD with all your guys' comments...too classic and very much needed!!!
Kisses~

I think Jill did what she did because last week when the guy sang with Jason, the judges said it was good that he interacted with Jason. So to be honest I think that the judges dont know what they want or looking for. They are confusing the shit out of the contestants. One minute Tommy Lee is saying they want OZ FEST & the next minute they are looking for rock n roll with some blues. I don't think SN knows what they want & they find this abuse amuzing on the air.
Posted by: Car at July 26, 2006 10:13 AM
Zayra - she is awful. I would like to see less repeat music and see some more of Scorpions - Ozzy, even Rush enough grunge let's see what they can really do!

Hey Dave!
I started laughing after your comments to Patrice. You were right on there.
Posted by: Karrie at July 26, 2006 10:23 AM
as some of you have already mentioned the repeating of songs with last season is getting to me, and it isn't doing any good for season two (at least for me) because I can't help compare them with the performances last year.
I'm such a huge fan and adore Marty and Jordis and sincerly I only see the potential they had in a couple of participants. Dilana is THE BEST. Lukas is good but I find him really scary. I also like Storm.I really hated JD and I can't belive he won, but on the other hand I really don't like INXS that much so I prefer Marty to be on his own.
love ya dave, all the way from Panama

Was Tommy Lee doing his best K-Fed with that way gay hat.
Jason Newsted with his new (way too much cut off) haircut looking even more like Beavis from Beavis and Butthead
Gilby Clarke just your basic over opinionated half-wit rocker with a 1970\'s Paul Revere and the Raiders meets 3 Dog Night kinda of Steve Perry hair cut.
Just pick Dilana and end the stupidity now!

That was a great show last night. This season is much different, and a lot less predictable. Man, Patrice got her feelings hurt, I'm sure, but what a moron. That was the equivilant of telling Bill Gates how to turn on a computer. Watching the reactions to Zayara's outfit was entertainment enough! Peace.
Posted by: AeroGem at July 26, 2006 10:52 AM
Kristen and I agree that we wish they'd put the house episodes on TV for three reasons: bigger screens, way too much buffering trouble which makes it nearly impossible to watch, and without commercials (EEK!) we have NO TIME to discuss what happens as it happens!
Love,

Hey there...another 67er here. Dave, we love you! I too would love to hear the rest of the dialouge between you and Patrice. It was sooo obvious that Gilby was very uncomfortable with the grinding (if you could call it that...it didn't look like she knew how to do that either). Her situational awareness isn't the best seeing as she did it twice. Obviously Gilby got enough of the ratty looking groupies during the GNR days. I would love to have the comments from the band available online, it is what makes the loading/buffering time worth it.
Cheers.

Dave, we all know you're mostly bored with this season's RS-SN contestants, with the exception of a couple or a few. Can we expect you to be dozing off on the show the next few weeks as the process slowly widdles down to the good stuff? And if so, do you think the network will let you dozing 'slide' much like Reagan's supporters did during his narcoleptic epidsodes? If not, I can recommend some very powerful NO-DOZE tabs!!

I love that no seems to either hate nor love Ryan, that way he can fly under the radar and swoop down and take this thing. I love him and if SN ever figures out just who they are, I hope they realize he'd be perfect for them, or at least keep him around until the very end!!
Posted by: Debaela at July 26, 2006 12:21 PM
Dave, you've done a great job this year.Whether it's handing out criticism or accolades. It's obvious how much more comfortable you are this season.
I have to say though, there are really only 3 performers that have delivered each week (Dilana, Lukas & Storm). There are a couple that have had their moments. But for the most part, these singers are horrible. I mean, come on. I cannot honestly believe that the producers thought these were the best of the best. That all of the singers had an honest chance of fronting a band consisting of Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted & Gilby Clarke. It was obvious from the start that most had no chance whatsoever.
We had one of the prelimimary auditions here & had 3 singers that are better than the bulk of what we're seeing. I'm just wondering who the hell was in charge of selection. Please have them fired.
Posted by: Lancer925 at July 26, 2006 12:26 PM
What I think is funny is when you read the competing singers/musicians RockStars msn blog, their fans occasionally state that Dave, Tommy, Gilby, or Jason are doling out criticism that isn't true either because any of these 4 are jealous of say Lukas, Dilana or Storm and especially Patrice.
Now who would be so dumb as to really think that
these 4 seasoned professional musicians that aren't much older than most of them be jealous of them? Answer is they're not.
It is kind of an entertaining comical read to read such nonsense kind of in the way watching Zayra try to aim for heading SuperNova! Though I do want Zayra's head on the SuperNova guillotine tonight!

Okay, so I have a question unrelated to Rockstar. I was wondering if y'all prefer to write your own lyrics as a group or if you ever collaborate with outside sources. I know you have worked with many other artists in various formats, but I wasn't sure where your lyrics come from? Along those lines, would you be willing to look at some lyrics I have written and give me honest feedback about them? I don't have the music worked out for them yet, just the written lyrics.

damn, there is no way i can read all of these posts...so little time. anyhow. i loved it when you said "i have a job". yes, you do different things when you perform. besides you are DAVE NAVARRO, she has no fucking clue.
my mother and i have come to the conclusion that zayra is kept around for the band's comic relief. they all seem to enjoy laughing at her. she is soo annoying that is the only reason i can figure out why she is still there. there is no way tommy would want her to front his band.
i hope the dvd has all of the unaired parts..as well as the reality part all put together, that would rock! be much better than the inxs dvd.

Hi, friends! Since I basically agree with Dave and the rest of you, there is not much for me to add except to thank those who made my day with their posts:
"I think Jill did what she did because last week when the guy sang with Jason, the judges said it was good that he interacted with Jason. So to be honest I think that the judges dont know what they want or looking for. They are confusing the shit out of the contestants. VERY good point. So true!
"Gilby Clarke just your basic over opinionated half-wit rocker with a 1970\'s Paul Revere and the Raiders meets 3 Dog Night kinda of Steve Perry hair cut."
LOL. That hair description is spot on and TOO funny!!
"It was sooo obvious that Gilby was very uncomfortable with the grinding (if you could call it that...it didn't look like she knew how to do that either)."
MEOW!
Thanks, everyone, for the much-needed laughs.
Looking forward to tonight's show. Should be a good one!
Cheers,

I have watched the show, and I really dig rock. However, Zayra doesnt have what it takes, I personally think that a guy will win this one. I just cant see a woman being a lead singer for Supernova and if that is then they need to beware of Tommy. Good God, He will probably end up in jail for sexual harrassment. He is more into the way the woman is dresses. Either way, I love all of you, you rock!
Posted by: Jessiegirl at July 26, 2006 02:16 PM
Jessiegirl honey, don't you think if Tommy would have been arrested for sexual harassment that it would have happened waaaaaaayyy before NOW? Duh Duh!
Dave! I just had a thought!! If we here in the gool ole U.S. of f*ckin A. happen to hear a rather LOUD gun shot can we assume a few things?
1. Tommy got offed by a jealous husband?
2. Somebody hired a hit on Zayra because like the plague she keeps coming back again and again
-or-
3. You've decided to OFF yourSELF due to the SHEER torture of having to sit through another mostly talent-LESS talent SEARCH??
Your candid thoughts/answers would be MOST welcomed!

Hi Dave
who arranges the clothing? Do the contestants provide their own? (That outfit Zayra was wearing was awesome. Tommy's eyes nearly fell out!)
Posted by: Nexus at July 26, 2006 02:52 PM
What's to add?! I love watching the show for those precious moments when the camera pans to one of the SuperNova dudes to catch them, shall we say, in mid-expression?! It's just beautiful!
Zayra makes me grin, but I wonder the smarts in keeping her for comic relief at the expense of those who are serious contenders? How do they feel about it?
Storm and Lukas are at the top of the heap for me.
Patrice clearly did not get the memo about not ticking off those she is trying to impress... Gosh did we not all learn that in grade school?
Her performance last night was a triple ZZZ.
Goodonya for putting her in her place-but gently.
I must agree with the zillion posters before me Dilana is the goddess and I would shell out two year's Canadian Tire bucks to see her no matter where she plays. My question is: Can the male ego deflate enough to consider her? She can only make them look great...
Posted by: tequilalaffs at July 26, 2006 02:59 PM
I agree about the camera pans to Dave and the band - what are the chances of a split-screen, or pay-per-view secondary channel?
Half of the performers are so consistently bad I kiss my Tivo after the performance night ends.
Posted by: Da Pope Of Biscuit at July 26, 2006 03:04 PM
I'm with you. It wouldn't be a hard choice since there isn't much to choose from. IMHO the talent is nowhere near where it was last time. There is talent, but not as much. There are some people this time that I really don't know why they're there. I'm just saying...also, is it just me or are things a bit more cheesy this time around?
Take care!
Posted by: Tracy1cg at July 26, 2006 03:06 PM
Dave, I don't know what's worse...Patrice's unchanging soul-less facial expression, Phil's bobbling head, or that other guy (sorry can't remember name_we'll call him "bathroom guy") who clenches his teeth all the time while singing? (though he didn't do it so much last night_did he go for a colon clense?)...ugh...what has happened to the world of rock 'n roll? Did the casting directors PURPOSEFULLY pick out some of these guys and gals JUST to make it easier on the REAL talent? And what's up with that 16th spot that never got filled? Were you all SECRETLY hoping for the ONE to show up and fulfill your ears with rock 'n roll bliss? Rock 'n Roll fans across the world demand an honest answer!!

Dave, wow 10 minute interaction with Patrice. Seeing I've been to a couple of tapings, I was wondering what comments didn't make it through the final edit.
"Lucas is good but I find him really scary." La Mae that's exactly what Tommy's been saying, they want someone who scares them!
"I wanna join Dave's band and "grind all noght long!!!" SweetMelis, would that make you an organ grinder sans the monkey? Ha Ha
I would love to see Dave perform with Lukas, on stage of course. They would look so good together!
Posted by: Linda at July 26, 2006 04:04 PM
An organ grinder.... Hmmm... in a good way, or a ba way? That could be painful.... I agree, Zayra chica needs to vamoose -- Storm, Lukus and Dilana are THE BOMB, I like Magni too... and the music, how about some Disturbed? Or some heavier stuff? Hinder? Or even some Switchfoot? (didn't Tommy L say he liked Switchfoot?) They want the heavy, give them the HEAVY songs... Ozzy, Who... ect... Anywho, DAVE, you rock. I happen to own every song you've ever been on (including the solo stuff, merci) Rock on, dot com...
Posted by: JadedRogue at July 26, 2006 04:13 PM
HA! Thanks for that Dave. At least we know that someone has a realistic take on this thing.
Re: Patrice...I think my response would have been, "When you have moved MILLIONS of records, come talk to me about what I do on stage!" Still, I get the sense that several of these people are watching for things that they can do to "impress" the panel...i.e., Jill apes Dilana's onstage freak-out with the Courtney Love impersonation because she has no image of her own and thinks it will impress, Patrice tries the rebellious "Rock Star" attitude and fires back with a quip because the guys have responded positively to that with others...kind of grade-school-playground, if you ask me.
Just sing, people. Just sing.
Posted by: Charles at July 26, 2006 04:30 PM
I just wanna know what it is you and Gilby are always talking about during certain performances. Wish that could be mic'd! ha!
Im loving the show...especially when you get all fiesty. I was busting up laughing when that girl tried to call u out on doing different things onstage.
I blew out my knee this last weekend at the coast so I've been unable to spend more than 5 min at a time online. I wanted to post a quick note to say hello to everyone. Now Im gonna hobble back to my couch to watch more mindless television. Counting the hours till RS...Seeing you on RS is the bright time of my awful days this week.

Yeah - have to say, I've been re-watching last year's shows, and again, I think you guys are forgetting just how much the early contestents SUCKED ASS in the first couple of weeks. Even the three "Obvious contenders" last year at this stage weren't nearly at the level that Dilana, Lukas and Toby are at now. Last year contestants were fumbling the choruses, totally forgetting the lyrics, and singing WAAAAAY out of key. The only truly talentless performers this year were Chris, Phil, and Zayra the banshee from hell. The rest are all great - but they are having to impress REAL rockstars this year - not INXS.

Hi Dave, great job with your comments on RockStar.
Dont know if you actually read these things but i posted yesterday that just FYI the sarah howard news has made it to NZ (in a magazine)... WELLLL... now they're saying on the Radio that someone called Katie Durkin has been saying she's been "romancing" you too... :o(((((
Just to give you a heads up if all of this is untrue... You're HUGE news over here and I swear I've never heard you talked about so much before.
Posted by: t at July 26, 2006 06:00 PM
Dave, come on...what the hell was that? How could they NOT axe Zayra? She is horrible. She truely is a horrible singer. Forget the "solo" career you told her to start, she really needs to learn the phrase "Supersize that meal?"
At least some of the others may not be "Supernova" material, they are talented.
She just can't sing.
I know....she has a picture of someone with a goat or something. Right? There has to be some sort of blackmail involved to keep her a contestant.
Posted by: Peebs at July 26, 2006 06:07 PM
Can't believe it. It looks like supernova is not taking their own advice. They tell everybody to rock it up and then lose their own credibility by keeping Zayra in. Very disappointing. We now question the commitment of Supernova.....
Posted by: Astrid at July 26, 2006 06:09 PM
Hey Dave. Supernova rocks, but I have to say that tonight, the boys lost quite a bit of credibility by keeping Zayra. Although she's semi-talented in her own unique way, here's zero chance that she would ever be able to front the band. I can't say the same about Phil.
Posted by: Joe at July 26, 2006 06:11 PM
Only thing I can possibly think is that SN believes that Zarya will ALWAYS be in the bottom 3 to eliminate when they want. Who know about the others. I gotta think that they have already narrowed it down to 5 or 6 and are just picking off the riff raff until the real contenders remain.
GO STORM!!!!

Posted by: Dane Bramage (ok John) at July 26, 2006 06:21 PM
OMG Dave! seriously we all know that you agree with us fans that Zayra needs to go. However Tommy, Jason and Gilby are quickly losing credibility by the viewing public by refusing to kick her off. With the exception of maybe 100 or so horney men, people hate her singing ROCK! It is offensive and probably even more so to a true rocker like yourself. It cracks me up that they are talking about commitment to the band with Phil, and how they want the contestants to take this more seriuosly. But how can they when it appears that they themselves are thinking with the wrong head! I don't know maybe the solution is turning the channel when she performs or wait until she is gone to watch the show. Sorry I love the show and again I know if it is up to you she be gone, Maybe its time the performers check the MSN website and see what fans are saying about them! Maybe those who are not doing so well will kick it up a notch and those who have been clearly rejected by the majority of viewers will have some diginity, admit that it is not the right band for them and bow out. Thus saving us from any more torture!
Posted by: Noelle at July 26, 2006 06:24 PM
As for Phil getting the boot, not surprised at all. His performance was weak and he has no fire to perform with SuperNova.
I though don't question their commitment just because they kept Zayra. I actually thought she was better than him tonight.
Though, imho, she will not front SuperNova.
Plus all the talk about maybe they want a guy in the end. Well maybe they really don't know as of yet. But in the end if that's what they want, that's what they should get.
Rock On Brooke, Dave, Tommy, Gilby & Jason!!!
Looking forward to see who gets put under next week's RockStar SuperNova guillotine!
The crowds are still chanting in the street for Zayra!!!
Posted by: Savvy at July 26, 2006 06:28 PM
MUCH better song selection tonight. Loved Failure, ha--MP3.com top 5, huh Dave? :)
And Zayra, although I find her "not right" for SN, did a good job for what I thought was the first time with her song, loved it too. Poor Phil, but no surprise there.
Love,
Sue

Dave - I like the show, but your comment about the difference between Patrice and you is that you have a job and she does not, went over the line a bit, in my opinion. Yeah, it's good to be honest with these young performers, but they are going to be frustrated when they hear that some of the judges didn't like their performance.......so just let them vent a bit, they will think about the comments later and probably respond accordingly. You initially gave her constructive criticism (she needs to mix it up a bit).....that was good, but you should have left it at that. No need to humiliate her with the follow-up comment. My opinion.
Posted by: Bob at July 26, 2006 06:59 PM
Dave,
I don't know if you are gonna see this or not, but I'll say it anyway. This year's 15 singers on Rockstar SUCK!!! Oh my god!!! Ok let me rephrase,13 of the 15 suck. Lucas and Dilana stand out, but i think a chick might win so Dilana it is. Anyway, I am so glad i have tivo so i can fast forward through the sucky ass peformances! I only support the show cause you host. You don't host anymore I don't watch anymore. Keep those comments coming they are the best part of the show. Audra

I really dont like Zayra at all.. She seems a bit off for Rock music. I liked Phils preformance tonight, but he was'nt all that great before tonight, I still think he should have stayed though. Any ways love the show. And the comment from Shane " I like the show, but your comment about the difference between Patrice and you is that you have a job and she does not, went over the line a bit, in my opinion." It was completely justified and she deserved it ..in my opinion ^ . ^

Posted by: Carly at July 26, 2006 07:16 PM
Hey i think they kicked off Phil because Jason could not stand him. Phil gives off a very wuss type attitude and his head wobble thing was weird. I just think it came down to Jason really just not getting a good vibe and not liking him. I think there are really only 3 people on the show who could seriously front the band, maybe only two, and the band knows it. So it doesnt really matter who they cut until the final weeks. At least keep Z around will be interesting for the show and i thought she gave a good preformance tonight.
Posted by: williebert at July 26, 2006 07:49 PM
Ok, now it's obvious. Zayra is still there for the pure comedic aspect. And that's cool, I mean, we ARE watching a show for the entertainment, right? "Not An Addict" is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs. To say I did not like her version would be an understatement. I only watched about half of it then I had to fast forward through the rest.
Dave- you looked mighty fine, as usual.

There will only be one. I think leaving her in the game Zayra gets an undeserved forum to further her carreer. SHE SUCKS THE SWEAT OFF A DEAD MAN'S BALLS.
Posted by: Dane Bramage (ok John) at July 26, 2006 08:14 PM
I agree that Zayra should have been taken off the show but not because she's not entertaining and I thought she sort of sang o.k. tonight. go ahead....laugh or curse at me for that if you want but I thought she sounded o.k.. . but I agree that she is not right for Supernova. She SHOULD try for a solo career. I thought Phil performed his song very well tonight and I thought it was a very cool selection. I would have given him another week...especially to watch that head bauble thing he's got goin' on....what a funny comment about that on Tuesday! (how do you spell bauble anyway)
Still I'm for Dilana but I love the drama of it all!!!! Who knows ...we could all be very surprised with the end result!

Enough Nirvana already!!!!! The guys seems to be going the same route as MotherWolf (whatever they are called)....so....how about some songs that rocked back-in-the day????? I could list a ton, but Dave, I know you don't make the rules.
Seriously, there are like three people talented and interesting enough to be in the band...the rest are posers. The egos area unreal!!!! How many albums (I'm dating myself.) have they sold versus the millions sitting on the couch? Grr....

Posted by: D at July 26, 2006 09:14 PM
WTF???
I smell a RAT.
Though I did not buy Chris for a minute and was more than ready for his departure, I felt like he did enough to save himself in his elimination performance, and in an absolute incredulous turn of events, the band chose Zayra.
Now, over a supposed issue of "commitment", NoClue-a (as she has become known around here) is given the benefit of the doubt over Phil???
Supernova, YOU GOT SOME 'SPLAININ TO DO!!!
Do they honestly believe that Zayra has made ANY commitment to growing, learning, and adapting in order to have a chance in this contest?? Has she not already proven beyond doubt that her only commitment is to HER OWN ACT???
There is no question that Plastic Man...errr, I mean Noodle Boy...errr, I mean PHIL...is not right for this band. He has a decent voice, but it is painful to watch him...HOWEVER, even with all of his drawbacks, the guy does seem to be trying in his own aloof way, and at worst, his cock-up cartoonish stage antics are far more relevant to this competition than the disaster-in-spandex that got the nod tonight.
There is no other explanation for this than it being an "executive decision" to keep this clueless woman on the show because they assume that it "makes for good television".
"Commitment"... my fat hairy butt.
Posted by: Charles at July 26, 2006 09:15 PM
Good Grief. If they were gpnna take Phil out then they should have also taken Zayra and eliminated both of them in the same night. Supernova should take their own advice they got 15 weeks of this, ya know, change it up!
Posted by: beth at July 26, 2006 09:16 PM
Zayra wont be around long you guys. She'll be going soon enough. The bottom line is they've all gotta go, save 1 sooooo...who really cares who goes home this early in the game? If it was me Z would've been gone the 1st night...actually about 5 of those remaining contestents would've been wiped out in one huge hatchet man moment, but hey...its not my show! :)

JadedRogue, as for your comment about the organ grinder, I meant pump it up, not grind it down!! Ha Ha. About hearing some Disturbed, I can go for that!!!
I think Lukas may have broadened his fan base tonight with that amazing and sensual tongue action!!!
I didn't think Zayra sucked with her performance tonight, but I thought she and Phil would both be eliminated.

I have to agree with dave here, Zayra should be chopped. She doesn't really fit the musical direction supernova are going to or trying to achieve. Funny thing is i'm currently watching the show's elimination night here in new zealand (27/07). What i just trailed off from was that her performance in this elimination round actually would be a good direction for her to take as a solo career as dave advised her in the previous show.

As Dave said in an earlier entry, it doesn't matter which order they go. I don't think either Phil or Zayra could front Supernova anyways. Between the two, Zayra is more fun to watch than Phil who, although is a good-looking boy according to Tommy Lee, always looks dazed/bored every time Supernova comments on his performance.
Posted by: Miko at July 27, 2006 03:01 AM
Yes, definitely, Zayra must go. I can see her fronting a bar band that only does covers but that's it. She had a chance to really be raw tonight with the "not an addict" which is very dirty and real, and instead she made it into this soft ballad. It's the same with I think Josh who sang heart shaped box and let it rain. I cringed. I had to sing along with the guy because he was butchering a classic. I thought it was just because it's people who died, how can you remake that, but then dana? did about a girl justice. I can't wait until the weaker members are kicked out and it's a battle of the best rockstars.
Posted by: Melissa S. at July 27, 2006 03:01 AM
Dave did'nt say Patrice didn't have a job. He merely pointed out that she was the one auditioning for SuperNova not him. I really don't see the confusion here!
Phil is WAY TOO EFFEMITATE LIMP WRISTED when he performs to front SuperNova. I'm glad he got the guillotine over Zayra.
Zayra has more fire in her feet that he does in his whole body.
I think she can grow and I think SN sees that.
FYI, it's different for Jason to promote his band over a competitor. It's partly his show.

The best moment for me was the strong panel couch reaction to Patrice's comment that "it's all been done before" in rock. A true artistic spirit with rock n roll in their blood would never believe or espouse that cynical crap.
Dave, how do you respond to people who say "it's all been done before" in rock n roll?

I think Jill (the short bitchy blonde) made the comment that you are referring to.
Posted by: E at July 27, 2006 06:04 AM
The show is kinda like watching caesar put thumbs up or thumbs down on the combatants. So far only the chicks have any real balls but I can't really envision a chick fronting for these guys, although Storm and Dilana really rock. I just think it may unfortunately be a guy-thing type of band, you know? Zayra has a great future in Vegas as a lounge act in a small casino in Vegas. Or does her family own part of the network? At least she has personality -- Phil has NONE.
Posted by: whitebird at July 27, 2006 06:07 AM

Yeah what's with the bitchin' about Zayra? As Dave says a lot of these people suck he knows it we know it and SN knows it.So what who cares if Josh goes next or Jill or Ryan or Zayra does it really matter ?
I am not sure about song catalogs as to which ones they have the rights to but I agree with an earlier post if you have The Who rights they have a ton of less famous harder rock songs that would be excellent.Bargain,Love Reign O'er me,Join Together,Substitute, how about Long Live Rock ?
"We were the first band to vomit in the bar and find the distance to the stage too far" that lyric kinda reminds me of TLee...

last night sucked.Zayra should have been gone along time ago.I just can't figure it out.

Hey Dave I have been perusing over your archives and noticed that you partake in substantially less feedback then you used to. Can we fans look forward to you answering many questions in the future?

Last night i finally watched Tuesday nights episode and then watched last nights as well.
I can say, Gelby, you looked exceptionally hot playing that damn guitar. Very impressed you hot thing, you. I can say that Jill disgusts me. I laughed so hard when you walked away from her when she was grinding herself on you. I could tell you were just disgusted by it! So funny. I still think you sent the wrong one home though, guys. I dont know how Zayra is making it every week. She is always in the bottom 3 every week but still misses it by a hair. Her rendition of Call Me was mortifying! And what the hell was up with that outfit. Her body is hot for the outfit, however it was the strangest thing i have ever seen. And i dont believe Dave would be caught dead in that outfit. (regarding her comment about it being from his wardrobe) Dilana of course, once again, was the bomb, and Lukas did incredible on his rocked out version of the Verves song. Look forward to seeing you most of all Dave. You are so absolutely hot. I cannot wait till ONe comes out!!!!
Love

Dave, where's the spoiler? Hope you are not in blackout over there!
So much goes on we don't see...SN obviously had a reason to boot Phil, maybe the comment about getting press for his own band, maybe Tommy didn't click with him at the mansion...whoknows? I don't think Zayra deserves all the BS comments are throwing at her..sure, she is not right for the band but neither is Josh, even with a colon cleanse!
I like how she handles herself and she is different and she does mix it up..I hope some of the comments are not for racial reasons..she is the only ethnic in there (cos I don't count white bread iceland and aussies any different than American snobs)..:D

Just a small opinion from the bottom of the world ...
Marty Casey got in the wrong series of Rockstar. He was intense and insane and would have delivered on Supernova wanting scary and surprising performances. Some of the members of this series seem like they'd be more at home singing nursery rhymes than hard rock.
Agrees with Dave and everyone else that Dilana is incredible. Lukas isn't bad either but he hasn't let it all go yet.
Zayra resembles nothing so much as a cat with its tail caught under a rocking chair.
Posted by: Redenzed at July 27, 2006 07:35 AM
I agree Storm is good but can someone teach her how to dress like a rocker, she's really bad at it. Tuesday night she looked like a cheerleader gone bad and last night she was dressed more like an Entertainment Tonight host than fronting a RockStar SuperNova band! Someone help her dress!!!
She needs it...
Patrice did a good interesting performance (finally). Though I felt she was copping some of Dilana's moves/wardrobe choices. I just can't see her fronting SuperNova.
And as for the "rocker men" what's with the chains on the pants. That's more gang banger, not rock!
Lukas and Magni are the only two men who look comfortable in their own skin/clothes!
and I'm not digging Toby and really don't find him attractive. So he loses me on both fronts = music and looks!
So just another catty whine about RS:SN competitors ongoing choice in rather bad outfits they wear!

Zayra's days are numbered. I honestly think they are keeping her around for ratings. It's like watching a train wreck every week. Her Celion Dion snarl, but definitely doesn't have the pipes to back it up.

Dave,
Gotta say, kudos to yall doing the right thing, however I think if folks aren't reading the boards they might not realize exactly why you tell the guy it was his best performance yet you cut him? All we got via editing was that lil tidbit of "committment".. which is the gist but not the whole story.. totally agree with the decision tho, even though Ms Z has go to go SOON, lol
Posted by: Sally at July 27, 2006 08:27 AM
ohh one more thing, can you get license to "I Want You to Want Me".. then make sure Storm gets to sing it? lol Haven't heard it personally, word is she's great with that song and would show her "vulnerable" side, Good Luck with the new CD can't wait!

Savvy - I think the chains with jeans are a bit more Sha-na-na than even gang banger, but I might be dating myself (another 67'er)...
I see a lot of griping about the wimpy tunes, but Dave explained it well, generally telling them that they are looking to see how well they can pull off something that doesn't carry them away emotionally. Hey, at least it's not AI with all of the Manilow-ness. Whew! They'll bring on the rock soon enough.
I also think the dumping of Phil MAY have something to do with band promotion, but it may have also been a clarion call to the 'rockers' to quit giving half-ass performances every other week - just do it EVERY week. Might have something more to do with ratings numbers in the next few weeks than we know...

For those of you upset that Phil got the boot instead of Zayra...think of it this way: You've got three very, very male rock stars in their early 40's...who are they gonna keep around? The douchey emo/indie pretty boy, or the flirty trainwreck with the phenomenal ass? These guys know what they're doing. It's TV. They're entertaining themselves, and us, by letting Zayra stay. She's the reason the mute button on your remote control was created. Use it...and relax, willya? Dilana will win, and balance will be restored to the universe.

Ok, this goes out to Dave and the Supernova guys:
I understand your reasoning about the lack of commitment and your questioning the dude from last night that got axed, but if Zayra does not get the hatchet next, I along with every1 else in the world will question a lot about Supernova. As you all say, PLEASE BRING THE ROCK AND KICK ZAYRA OUTTA THERE NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gracias.

Bird...
I believe it's down to the band to guillotine someone off. Dave can't and just gives advice.
That's my understanding from what he states.

you know I agree that keeping Zayra maybe one way to boost ratings because most of us don't like her- but are getting off on making fun of her. Ok fine I will buy that but there are some serious consequences to this strategy that I think SN has not considered.
Yes Zayra is a trainwreck and we love to make fun of her- but this is a competition and keeping someone around for a laugh is sort of sending the message that they do not know how to judge talent -WHICH is a misconeption because they do know music- it is in that way that they are jeopardizing their own credability especially with fans who may not be familiar with their music or who may have only begun to listen to rock. Please bring back the integrity and diginity of rock music because it is insulting to the genre. If they are not going to take it seriously than why should the performers? Why should we?
2) To have someone and encourage someone to go on stage with an International community only to make an ass of themselves so that we can have a laugh is cruel and hurtful in my opinion. Unless their goal is to completely ostracize her from the musical community altogether- in which case keep it up because she is quickly becoming International joke. I know for myself, I would much rather be dismissed than have people i respect and trust encourage such International humiliation! How damaging is it going to be for her in the long run, emotionally and psychologically when she learns that the majority of the viewing public thinks she is joke- but hey, as was mentioned she has a great ass!
Posted by: Noelle at July 27, 2006 09:45 AM
None of us actually really know why Zayar is being kept on. Unless we actually really speak to the 3.
???Maybe Dave can ask them and pass the word on here???
Posted by: Savvy at July 27, 2006 09:50 AM
Noelle,
I agree that this could be hurtful to Zayra in the long-run, but let me flesh out my previous possibility a little more: I almost believe that they came down to Zayra and Phil, and all things being equal (no band promotion speculation), decided to make the vote in Zayra's favor because: a) Phil had no chance with Jason's obvious distaste, as well as the fact that he continually said his intention was 'to win' - not 'get the job' - there is a difference; b) Zayra, for whatever we all think of her, is definitely out there giving it her all. So I wholly believe this to be the band setting an example to the other 'job-seekers' that there is something to be said for a lesser talent REALLY trying HARD every week compared with the somewhat better talent just going through the motions - oh, and by the way DON'T START GETTING SOME BIZARRE TICK OR HEAD-BOB. Phil does seem to have 'something', but I'm not sure what it is - he often looked more uncomfortably deranged than 'intense'. Not the wrong choice, but neither of them were going the distance anyway.
Now, does anyone agree that Jill is a PIA that needs to REALLY go next?
And what is up with that Ryan guy? With his cheesy smile I see him being the next host of "Unwrapped" for the Food Channel. Dump the forearm band, Gordo.

Dav,
I don't get it, why do the guys keep Zayra around? She is so 80's pop... Again, if they don't have Dilana to front the band, please you take her.....I wish they would let you vote...
Your always....

Hi Dave, was just wondering, have the guys (both INXS and Supernova) ever consult your opinion regarding any contestant? Stuff like "Hey buddy, whatchathink of MiG?" or "Are you digging Magni?"
Am a huge fan of the ROCKSTAR series. Last season, I was really glad that my top 5 favorites landed in the, well, top 5. MiG is a cousin of my friend and I'm looking forward to catching INXS + MiG (special guest) here in the Philippines on August 15.
Keep us posted!

Da Pope Of Biscuit
you make some great points as I just got finished reading an article (dated july 14th) in which Phil said that he was only on SN to promote his own band. Furthermore he was upset that he had to sing cover songs as opposed to promoting the original music from his band. This was information that came out but obiviously was edited in the show. Having said that, Zayra has been in the bottom 3 what, three times now. Why not do a double elimination.
I really wish I could go to a taping but I live on the other side of North America....lol can not afford the airfare or hotel accomodations; plus I have class and I do not think it would be a viable excuse by the Prof...lol.
However Dave!!!! Halifax N.S. is looking for bands to open for The Rolling Stones outdoor concert this Sept. SO far on the rumor mill the promoters are trying to get Nickelback, Great Big Sea (Aerosmith is already booked - dam!) but they are looking for hot, new rock bands. I think TPC should come and rock the Maritimes! Hotel rooms are going fast (bands will be taken care of) and they are expecting anywhere between 60,000 and 100,000 in attandance. The concert is outdoors at the Halifax Commons.
The best part is that they are offering 20% discount to us poor students who have been deprived of anything 'social' that requires money. I would love to see you all perform here as it would be awesome exposure - the Canadian market would love TPC!

I can't believe Zayra pulled another (oh poor me)ballad song! To be honest...I can't even make out some of her words due to her heavy accent.
Even my boyfriend is starting to think someone is doing her to still be in there. Yeah, she's hot looking...so what...get on with the real rock!
I love seeing Dave on there but am slowly starting to lose interest in this show.

Are they doing Josh? Because he isn't SuperNova material?
Why does one assume she is fucking someone to stay on?
