NYC
Just woke up in NYC after a long night out with Carmen and some friends to celebrate her birthday at a club called Air. She'll be in Europe on the actual day, the 20th, so we had a little pre-get together last night. Lots of good times NYC style... Today, I literally plan to stay in my room and watch movies and eat and do nothing. As I type this, I am waiting on the coffee to be brought to my room. You got to love the room service. Tonight on The National Geographic Channel they are showing a special on the Lost Gospel Of Judas, a new Gospel where Judas explains that Christ asked to be crucified in order to become divine and that it wasn't Judas' greed nor was it the Jews that did him in. Should be some really compelling programming that could challenge the current New Testament and turn it in a new direction. Gregg and I were laughing at ourselves last night at Carmen's party as we found ourselves discussing Biblical History under the pounding sounds of sub bass Hip Hop club mixes. "Really compelling programming on The National Geographic Channel tomorrow night, Gregg." (Boom, Boom, Boom! Ery Buddy in da club gettin tipsy!) "Wow, Dave, that sounds... compelling!" "Yes, how compelling, Gregg." "Compelling."
"The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!"
Tomorrow night is the premiere of Carmen's new film, Scary Movie 4 at which I will be discussing Roman irrigation with Gregg. Actually, I am looking forward to it. Carmen does a take off on the blind chick from The Village. Looks funny.
Tuesday night is the Camp Freddy show in NYC. Of course it is a private event, but you can probably catch our performance on the Spike TV awards show from Vegas soon. I don't even know what the show is called, but it's the one about cars hosted by Ice Cube. Speaking of Vegas, I did OK in the Poker tournament and hung in there for a couple of hours. It got a little nuts so I just ended up going all in with nothing so I could walk around and enjoy the outdoor Vegas night with my friends. I did get to play with Cuba Gooding Jr. for a while. It's kind of all about Men of Honor, dude!
I'll post and MS bulletin if we do an SRL tonight after the NGC special. It has certainly been a while.

Dave,
Welcome to NYC. Last I watched a documentary about "The MS 13 Gang", "Alcatraz" and "San Quentin" all on NGC. That is one of my favorite channels. I will watch the repeat of the Judas show because it coincides with THE SOPRANOS.
I hope to see you perform on Tuesday.
Later,
Mike from NYC
PS - Nightbird, it was great meeting you on Friday Night at DUFF's.

Good morning all! I'll be right there with ya Mike! I'm looking forward to meeting you and the others. Are we doing the 6767 or X on the hand with a marker to simplify finding each other? I think the details of what we're doing are still in the works. Regardless, you know I'm there.
It's predicted that Tuesday night the weather is supposed to be kickin'. 65 degrees and sunny with a low of 50 at night. Sweet. I'm so psyched for this it's not even funny...
Spreading the love,

ahhh yeah...the power of Christ compels you..watcha watcha!!I'm into having sex, I'm not into makin love!!!
Actually, I don't think it will change any direction of the New Testament, just because it's ancient, doesn't make it true...kinda like an early version of the National Enquirer, you know, rumors, don't believe everything you read, you should know about THAT!!... just because it's on 2,000 year old paper, there's a reason it sat in storage for over 20 years...
anyway, sorry to get all Biblical on your blog, but you started it..hahaha....
have fun in NYC....and Deena, a special shout out to all my East Coast familia!!

oh and that new Judas Gospel info, takes out the shabang in the phrase "Judas Kiss", a term I love with all it's implications which are now all but gone due to this unearthing...

Have fun in NYC-Dave. Hey-Did Alyssa Milano play in the tournament? I partied with her at Hard Rock on Thursday-she is a super cool chick.

Hey Dave,
Just a warm fuzzy for a Sunday morning:
My baby boy Sam (7 months) needs to be rocked to sleep with music, but is very particular about what that music is. With some experimentation, we're up to three guaranteed sleepers:
Louis Prima - The Capitol Collection
Blue Man Group - The Complex
Deconstruction - "Iris" on repeat
Yes, it's a compliment. Can't wait for the new album.

IDK, something about this whole new gospel thing just rings true to me. I mean, if you line up the events in the other gospels, it doesn't destroy the complete notion of Judas being the betrayer-it just means he was chosen as the rat, which would fall more in line with the guy JC was, IMO. It's like he told him, "Hey, rat me out, so I CAN be crucified. You might take a bum rap, but you get a free pass at the gates".

once again been a while! lol...i'm on spring break finally so i can post and write all this stuff...hey zach...i'm on long island too!! that's awesome...didn't know there were any other long islanders here

I am definitely watching the NGC special. I do a lot of reading about the authenticity of the bible and what is written in the KJ version is leaps and bounds from what was written in the original Aramaic (sp?) scriptures. Its all kind of a joke really (no offense to you bible thumpers) because things have been so twisted and skewed in the King James version, that pretty much TONS of it is embellished works to promote certain messages the translators and others wanted to get out. And people just eat it up...
Anyways, Sorry to get all controversial on your blog, Dave but like Jezzi said...you brought it up. :) Thanks for the reminder about this special...I saw the previews a couple days ago and forgot to set Tivo!
Hope everyone has a great day and you NY'ers have fun at the show! Love, Amber

perhaps all your tattoo's as they would be on you on the shirt??? kind of creepy but kind of fucking art as well.?? anyway i dont know shit and i dont actually know why i posted this? probably cause im anonymous?? or you could just make a tshirt that says "Jack Bauer is HUNG"... fuck i dont know why I posted that either?

I guess if we went to a bar where Kiefer tends to strip, we could answer that question. My friends brother works on 24, and we were supposed to go up there. Alas my friend has been too sick, so I'll probably never get to meet Kiefer. Dave have you ever met Kiefer?
Leroy, love the idea about Dave's tatoos on the shirt, might be a little costly! Thanks for making me laugh. Linda
Posted by: Linda at April 9, 2006 12:40 PM
I would probably wear a shirt that depicted Dave's tattoos. It'd have to be black, though, with the tats in white. :D

I love what was said at the end of the NGC special...it DOES come down to faith, just because something was written as truth, we have the choice to believe it, isn't that what the concept of believing in a higher power, whatever we conceive it to be is all about? No matter how the events transpired, or who was villian or victim, I'm grateful for the end result...and a bit bemused at the timing of this special, coinciding as it does with the holiest week in Christianity and Judaism..today is Palm Sunday, Wednesday is Passover...oh, and the DaVinci Code's theatrical release is in less than a month....coincidental...I think NOT!!!

Dave, give Carmen the heads up about her appearance on the Jonathan Ross show, the guy is a motor mouth who doesn't let his guests get a word in..he basically uses his guests for his own piss take comedy routine and the guests usually finish thier segment without ever finishing a sentance.

So you have a few days in the Big Apple. Do you ever do the touristy thing when you travel?
And of course, I have been asked to go to NYC tonight for a day trip tomorrow, to return tomorrow night (that would be Monday night to Tuesday). And then I was asked to go next Sunday night, again, to return Monday night. So close to being near your greatness....
Someday....
Always,

Morning, D & Fam,
Hope you're enjoying our lovely NY weather, Dave. As for the Judas special, I found it extremely weird that the codex was stored for over 20 years in none other than....Hicksville, Long Island, NY. (Blondi and Denise, you'll appreciate that weirdness!) I guess I always expect those kind of things to be on Mt. Ararat or something, not near the Broadway Mall...
Anyway, see all you NY area 67'ers tomorrow night at Ollie's, right?
Have a great day all,
Love,
Sue

Hey Guys!
I'm sitting here getting ready for work, trying to get Madonna MSG tix before they're all gone. I tell ya, it's probably cheaper and easier to see the REAL Madonna.
I heard about the show on Jesus, but didn't get to see it. But I read all about the writing that were found in an LI strip mall. Too funny.
Who knows what's true and what isn't... But it still makes for a great story. From what I recall of my many years of religious instructions at church, Jesus DID know about his fate and his "calling" beforehand. So it stands to reason that he turned to someone he knew and trusted to make it come to fruition. For me, it doesn't change too much. Though it brings new meaning to "Judas Priest"...
As for talking about it at a hip-hop club, the rappers LOVE J.C.
Speaking of calling, NYC is calling my name tomorrow night! Some of us are shooting for meeting at Ollie's around 7:30 or 8. (Traffic and parking being the main variable.) I guess we can try to meet in front of there first. If I have time, I'll try to call later to see if they take reservations. I can't wait to see everyone!
I'll try to remember to mark up my hand. I may even wear my fabu 6767 shirt... But you know how it is... You have an outfit in mind, you *think* it might look cool, but you're not sure how it'll look until you actually put it on. So we'll see.
For now, though, it's off to work. Got the Madonna tickets (yay!) and looking forward to seeing another icon tomorrow. :)
Love and peace,
Posted by: Denise at April 10, 2006 06:44 AM

gotta love Hicksville Long Island...now we'll have a whole bunch of religious zealots migrating here to go pray to the strip mall of God...which it will soon be renamed i'm sure lol...i'm just kidding of course.
gotta love Long Island...sorry i won't be making it tonight, but it's too hard for me to get to the city tonight :-(...sorry all!!

Just took a stroll downstairs to see what kind of preparations are being made for tomorrow's show (benefit of working in Time Square). They usually set up the day before for these kinds of events, so I figured I’d see *something*. The only stage I can see is on the HRC's awning. It's pretty small - good things these guys are keeping their carbs low ;-) Doesn’t look all that sturdy either, so it’s a good thing they’re brave too (provided that’s where they’re really going to play, and just haven’t set up the other location yet).
It also looks like it’s going to be taped. There’s a truck hooked up to the side of the HRC, and a guy from NY City Film Theater & Broadcast (permits) walking about. I wonder who owns the rights to the performance if it’s a work for hire. Maybe I can have them do my bar mitzvah and sell the tape.

SweetMelis - There is no "official" game plan. I just figured that maybe we could pick a spot so that we can find each other easily and maybe grab some grub and get acquainted.
Here's info about Ollie's Noodle Shop, which my friend tells me is really good:
http://www.lovetoeatandtravel.com/site/US/NY/Food/ollies.htm
They don't take reservations, but the lady I spoke to assured me that there would be plenty of room for everyone.
I'm shooting for 7:30 outside of there. I'll most likely be with a girlfriend, and we'll have *some* kind of identifying marks on us somewhere.
Somehow it will work out. It always does. :)

Good Evening, Dave--
Interesting discussion about the latest find on
Judas--maybe based on the Gnostic Scriptures?
Raised as a Roman Catholic, but always thought
that the Crucifiction was a Roman political
power play..hard to know what Christ THOUGHT,
but would not one rationally question so painful
a death?
Anyway...keep well! Enjoy our spring weather
here in the East!

I'll be coming in with my friend Eileen, and we'll be shooting to meet you guys outside Ollie's between 7:30-8:00 as planned. I'll put a 6767 on my hand with marker and I'll look around for you guys, and assume that even though I don't know what many of you look like, that I'll be able to find you.
I have long wild hair and it's dark brown with thick platinum streaks. That's an easy dead giveaway... and the shoes... I guess I'm pretty hard NOT to find.
I'm BEYOND psyched. I seriously can't wait to hang with you guys.

The New York Daily News reports Carmen Electra and hubby Dave Navarro were keeping their distance last Saturday, when she celebrated her 36th birthday at the Impulse party at Aer. The two arrived separately and left separately. "They kept their distance from each other all night," a spy revealed. The Panic Channel guitarist left at 2 a.m., and the 'Scary Movie' actress continued to party until at least 4.

Quick stage update -
The stage is set up on the awning of the Hard Rock. Perkins' kit is up on the riser, and I see the back of what looks like a Marshall head on a single cabinet, and the back of another head an another cabinet that I couldn't get a good look at on the other side of the stage. it looks like he riser takes up more than half of the stage, not leaving much room for the rest of the band. It's a good thing they're not an 80's hair band - 1 kick, and somebody is flying off of this thing.
Should be veeeeerrrrryyyyy cool! Wish I could get in to the main show. The sponser is out their putting up all of their wares this morning.

What model of 900 do you own? What tubes? I believe Dave uses a 100w 900 Dual Reverb with EL34s.
I have the 50w model. (Bought it in 1990 new)
There are a few 900 models.
The Master Volume
Dual Reverb
SLX
Marshall started putting 6L6 tubes in their 900s in some DRs and Most SLXs.
The 6L6 Tubes will give you more headroom (less distortion) and more of a "Metal" sound. That is why Metalheads like these.
The EL34s will give you a more "hard rock" Marshall "honk" that Dave obviously loves (As do I)
I know Dave USED to use a Boss OD or DS to boost his 900 during solos, I believe he has taken it out of the mix.
From Experience, certain guitars give out more sustain than others.
And I believe PRS has more "unf" than the Ibanez guitars he used to use.
If your 900 has 6L6 is can easily be converted to use EL34s.
Proper bias is a good idea as well.
