How do you see your role within TPC? Do you think you bring anything to the project that is unique?

Happy Easter, Dave!

Dave,
Here are some TPC "preguntas".
What label are you signed to?
When will the album be released?
Any television appearances planned? Leno, Letterman or SNL?
Happy Easter,
Later,
Mike from NYC

What is your vision for TPC, where do you want to see it go?
Posted by: Peebs at April 16, 2006 07:06 AM
1. What rock and roll song did you first pretend you were a musician to, you know, hold your hair brush in front of a mirror and sing, or play air guitar or drums to?
2. The first album you bought?
3. Your first celebrity crush?
4. What your 'imaginary' rider would look like, what items do you HAVE to have backstage?
5. Your favorite "cover" song?
6. Your dream session musicians?
7. Your first thought upon waking up?
8. From the actor's studio interviews...your favorite curse word?
9. Another one from James Lipton..if there IS a heaven, what do you imagine God would say to you at the Pearly Gates?
10. What do you imagine yourself doing if you weren't a musician?
love,
jezzi

A TPC question:
??
What are your main sources of inspiration as an artist and a person?
??
Looking forward to the new site!

Someone asked about the name...but I was wondering...
There seems to be a lot of bands using "Panic" in their name lately, have you all considered changing it at any point? I hear there is even a Japanese band with the same name. Just curious.
Posted by: stardreme at April 16, 2006 10:03 AM
Any plans for a band to tour with you?
Any video plans for the first single?
How many songs did you write on this CD?
Again, Happy Easter to you and yours :)

Happy Easter Dave!
1. Barry Manilow recently said he struggles for hours and hours with coming up for an idea for a song, not necessarily the process of actually penning notes and lyrics. The writing process-can you elaborate a bit on the procedure? Lyrics vs. Music-which usually comes first with TPC or is it more of an idea for a song that is the basis?
2. Page has said Stairway was a compilation of sounds that came to him at different times. Do you ever carry around a voice recorder or fire up the computer when you have a snippet or a lick in mind and then use it later in a song combined with others parts?
3. You've said that sonically, TPC is some of your strongest material to date. (No argument here!). When you began the whole TPC process, did you ever believe that these songs would come out as potent and majestic sounding as they have?
4. You've compared TPC to a "Gothic Rush" sound. Is this something that you wanted Ryan to center himself around-the concept? Can you elaborate just a bit with working with him-was he more of adirector or a collaborator? Did he make suggestions that no one had thought of that stuck? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate working with him and will he be working with you in the future? Did he ever run any TPC ideas by Brendan, his mentor, during this process?
5. Steve has mentioned struggling with song order on the release, which ones to list in what order. How important do you feel this is and do you feel it's truly significant in order to establish a concept album? How was the song order chosen?
6. Is there going to be other bands playing with TPC on this tour? Local bands of the respective cities or has one been chosen for the tour? (Dropsonic in Atlanta would be a dream-my two favorite guitarists, same stage, same night-oh man).
7. Have any songs been written for the next release other than the ones that have already been recorded and have to be left off? Is the song writing process an on-going procedure for you/the band, meaning do you sit down and say to yourself, "Ok, songwriting time"?
8. Any chance of hearing any TNO material on this tour or Skycycle songs?
9. I've never heard Dazed and Confused covered as well as it was at the Dragonfly last May. It still gives me shivers to think about it. Can we expect this to be whipped out occasionally on this tour or the one after RS?
10. Is someone going to be recording the dates on the upcoming club tour for a possible future DVD release?
Posted by: Lyn at April 16, 2006 10:20 AM
Dave,
I believe this is the first band you've been in with a second guitarist.... so, having that is the songwriting process different for you now with the added guitarist? How so? And do you enjoy having more freedom when you play live since I assume Steve handles a lot of the rhythm work?

Good Morning Dave and Everyone! Happy Easter...hope you all have a great day w/ friends and family.
Here's a question to consider for the site, Dave.
~What has been unique about your recording experiences with TPC compared to JA and RHCP? Creatively speaking... ;)

are you going to break out any of the old PRS's (such as the black or the blue one)that you used with Jane's for the TPC shows?

Do you see TPC as a long term collaboration of musicians, are you guys already thinking past this album and its tour to the next album,or are you all focused on the now?.
Do you have a multi-album deal with the label your signed with?.

Your career has gone down many different paths and genres.Your guitar playing has always grown from each endeavor you have undertaken.
In what aspects do you feel your guitar playing is continuing the evolutionary process in The Panic Channel?

Wow! so many really good questions about TCP. It looks like all of the musical and truly valid questions have been covered.
Since ADD keeps me from staying serious for more than 20 seconds, and people (maybe only me) love to know the behind the scenes shit - some unconventional q's for the band:
Blow dryer - for your hair only, or also for doze nutz? (Leather pants and moist nutz could be a looking for problems).
Wiping - through the legs, or around back (a study has shown that sons of divorced parents tend to go with the through the legs method - depending on their age at the time of the divorce (and possibly the length of their arms)).
While touring w/ a bunch of dudes - autoerotic fun must have some rules around it. Is there any “rubbing one out on the bus etiquette (nutiquette?) that must be observed (unless you guys are sleeping in hotels).
Posted by: Lance at April 16, 2006 01:09 PM
Do you have a favorite song on the new TPC album?
Posted by: Cori at April 16, 2006 01:22 PM

I had thought I had some creative and unique questions for you, until I read Lance's questions above. HAHA...funny shit dude! instead of my crappy questions, Answer one of his for me!
Scott
P.S. saw the footage of you guys out on the balcony in NY. Very cool. I'll say it again, drag your Camp Freddy asses up to Seattle and do a show with Cantrell and as many speacial seattle guests as you can. would make for a unique and amazing camp freddy show.

Q: How do you feel about playing small clubs vs. arenas? (thanks for the club tour, by the way, WE like it!)

Posted by: Sue and Kristen at April 16, 2006 02:40 PM
hahaha you asked for it...and from the looks of things inquiring minds want to know.. heh
My questions are simple, has yours or any of the band memebers spirituality had an impact on the songs chosen or the webdesign...if so which, who and how...

Happy Easter to Dave and family, the panic community, and their families and friends.

With just an album's worth of music, will you do any covers on your tour?
Posted by: Schwing at April 16, 2006 04:52 PM
You've got three guys in the band from the Jane's reunion album. What madethe three of you decide to stick it out, get a new lead singer, and form TPC.
A related follow up (probably this would be addressed in yr first answer): Obv, Steve plays guitar, so there's one difference between TPC and Jane's. But how does this new group distinguish itself, so that it can get beyond the idea of Jane's- Perry, which you guys must know you are going to be dealing with, a little bit.
BTW: having heard the songs you've been playing on Spread, I don't think you'll be having any problems. all the best.

forgot to preview the post immediately above. then I read it and saw it's a mess. SORRY.
Here's a cleaner, clearer version:
You've got three guys in the band from the Jane's reunion album (Strays). What made the three of you decide to keep playing together in some form, and to form TPC?
A related follow up, which probably will be addressed in yr first answer:
Obviously, Steve plays guitar, so there's one difference between TPC and Jane's. But how does this new group distinguish itself, so that it can get beyond the idea of Jane's Minus Perry= TPC? (You guys must know you are going to be dealing with the comparisons, at least a little bit. Take em on now!).
thanks for yr patience. all the best.

You've had success with all of your bands, including solid sales of your solo album. When you start something new like this, do you occasionally get a "panicked" feeling inside, like, "What if this tanks?" If so, what do you do about that feeling to be able to keep moving in the right direction?

hey dave, we all here are wondering about the SPIN Jane's Cover, how you appear to be the same height, or even taller than perry. we know you're a midget and a wimp, but why are you still trying to hide it?
Posted by: joey k. at April 16, 2006 10:22 PM
When listening to SRL awhile back, I was disturbed by something Steve said about his songwriting process. Paraphrasing: He's not an "artist" with deep emotions/ideas that he feels the need to express. Then what's the point... the money/fame/fun? Sounds like he's wasting his time, your time, and ours.
You're three phenomenal musicians... I wish you would have teamed up with someone who has something worthwhile to express vs empty rhymes? (Perhaps something along the lines of APC or someone like Corgan.) Your thoughts? Thank you.
Posted by: b at April 16, 2006 10:31 PM
How do u know he is empty? maybe thats not what he meant by: deep emotions, maybe he meant that he is happy, or something else, but u dont know him so u cant tell... u shouldnt say he is not worthy, coz maybe he is, or maybe he is not, but we cant know that yet... (and if they decided to have a band with him, must be for something)
