CFR/Auditions

Tonight is an all new CFR on Indie 103.1FM. (6:00pm-8:00pm PST) Billy and I will be bringing you the same old thing... The two best hours of your life! Plus special guests.

Camp Freddy Radio Podcast

Also, during those hours, you can check out the Camp Freddy Radio Webcast.

Yesterday I went down to the Knitting Factory in Hollywood with Jason and Gilby for the LA Rockstar auditions. No doubt, there was some great talent there, but I was amazed by some of the choices that were made by great number of the hopeful singers. Celine Dion songs, trumpet and ukulele solos, original acoustic numbers. It was like nobody got the memo regarding who they were auditioning for! Supernova is made up of members of Guns, Motley and Metallica! Very few people chose to just rock and bring it. Hey, they did their Dion covers well I suppose, but man, these guys needed to see attitude and power and some rock! My advice for anyone going to future auditions is to save your original songs until the call back and just do great rock covers for the initial audition. These guys need to know the music you are doing so they have an idea of what you sound like. When you come in and do an a capella original, nobody has any idea if you are even close to in key or in time.

We will discuss this further on tonight's CFR.

Tomorrow I leave for Cannes to work on some Rockstar International promotional stuff. It's going to be a quick in and out trip as I have to get back to Vegas for a Maxim Poker Event on the 7th, I think, then on to NYC for a Camp Freddy show. While I am away, Loop will be working on Shop 13 to get it ready for our Spread Radio Merch Line which will initially include men's and women's shirts, hoodies and women's camisole sets. We should be ready for pre-orders as soon as next week. Also, I will do my best to bring some SRL shows live from one or all of these cities I will be in.

Dave,
Some of us in NYC will be outside the Hardrock Cafe when you play. I think that Me, Denise, Sean, Blondimofo, Itanja, Deena and some others will be there. We hope to see you there.

Later,
Mike from NYC

That's too funny about the auditions.

Rob - It's on the 11th. Come join us! The more the merrier. As soon as there's an official gameplan, one of us will post it or send out some emails.

Have a wonderful day, all!

Yikes!! I hope the previous auditions went better, cause there's only one more left, in Calgary..

I can see, though, from the wording on the official website, how some kids might have been confused...

http://rockstar.msn.com/season2

it tells prospective Rockers to be prepared to sing up to 3 songs, one of which SHOULD be a cover, not HAS to be a cover, then it gives other options, like singing a cappella or to a track. I guess it should have said singing a cappella or to a track 'of a cover'.

I can understand ,though, these guys that have one shot at an audience of rockers, they want to show their personal best, hence the Celine, but the only ukelele song I ever liked was a cover of Over the Rainbow...

How awesome it must have been though, for the auditionees, to have you guys in their audience!

love,
jezzi

Hey did what his name get back at you?

Hey, Dave:

I was at the auditions in L.A. -- as a casual observer, not as a contestant (when you see a line of people with guitars, you get curious). You're right about them not getting the memo. They women looked like they were auditioning for the GO-GOs and the guys looked like they were trying out for RASCAL FLATS. Weird.

But there was this one girl that really caught my eye. She was dressed in a long black coat, had black dyed hair -- very goth... like Nancy Wilson when Heart first started up. I wandered into the Knitting Factory and she was off to the side playing slide blues on a J-45 (I think it was something by Elmore James). What a sight. And she was f***ing great!

I think my question is... do you have her phone number and can she beat me while doing some blues shouting?

On another note... I just saw "Fight Club"... It was a brutally phenomenal movie with an ultimate twist that the two were the same... If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it... Though most of you probably have since it's a 1999er...

Dave, any idea how long of a set you're going to do outside? I'll be thrilled and rockin' out regardless, but I'm hoping we get treated to more than just one or two songs...

Spreading the anticipation and the "gotta whip up something rockin to wear" jitters,
Deena

#1 - The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club.

#2 - The second rule of Fight Club is, you DO NOT talk about Fight Club.

#3- The third rule of Fight Club is, not to give away the ending.

Not talking about Fight Club,

Good morning Dave, good morning family!!

I have a new obsession, and his name is Jason Newsted!!What a sexy man, articulate, intelligent, and he can play guitar? Be still my heart! Last night's show was amazing, I can't remember the last time four men got together in one room and made such interesting conversation, that wasn't about sports or porn!! Haha!!

Sellout? Every seat, every night...classic!!

I love you, Dave, have a safe trip, and stay away from cars dangling overhead!
