Camp Freddy NYC
Well, I am for sure ready to come home, but we had an awesome set last night in NYC. First, before the gig inside we played outside The Hard Rock in Times Square on top of the restaurant. I could see a sign from where I was that read 6767 and I knew I was among friends. Thanx to everyone who showed up, it was a real treat to see you all out there, not to mention the special "Deez Nuts" on the back of the sign! That was definitely the highlight of this trip for me. Outside we did Suffragette City(Dono), Roadhouse Blues and Crackerman(Scott).
Inside we did something like this:
Ballroom Blitz
Ashes To Ashes (Scott)
Surrender (Scott)
Rebel Rebel (Gina Gershon)
Pretty Vacant (Brett Scallions, Billy Duffy)
Rain (Diego, Billy Duffy)
Search and Destroy (Morrison, Duffy, Duff)
Cat Scratch Fever (Duff, Jerry Cantrell)
Jailbreak (Cantrell, Duffy)
Feel Like Makin Love (Shooter Jennings, Duffy)
Whole Lotta Love (Johnny Fayva, Moby)
Walk This Way (DMC, Moby)
I Wanna Be Your Dog (Everybody)

Deena - I was corraled into the pen area for the first song and then I walked back over to 43rd for the last two. I live out in Jersey so I had to make sure I caught a 11:30 train home so I bolted as soon as they got off the stage. Didn't get home until 1:00 so I'm pretty wiped being that I had to get up at 6:00 for work. Was defintely worth it though. I should have checked ahead here and met up with a few of ya.

Dave!
Thanks for a great show last night! Three songs from CF is worth three hours with a lesser band. Glad you could read the sign, that was a last minute-run to Duane Read thing, Kristen’s idea for that and the dees nuts. The look on your face was priceless, wish I had my camcorder. I was leaning over and she was using my back as an easel, and all these tourists kept asking “what does dees nuts mean? and “who is playing? with crazy accents, it was surreal…some guy near us was telling everyone that U2 was coming out, I think he was from Canada. Thanks for the shout out, it made our night, in our 67 group anyway!. It was great to finally meet Denise, Mike from NYC, Denise’s friend Kristy, Deena and her friend. We had our little group of 7, went to Ollie’s before, tried to get inside Hard Rock but security was TIGHT. They wouldn’t even tell us what time you guys were going on, until we found a nice corporate guy that spilled it. One security guard wouldn’t even admit that there was any band playing, he said, “the cars will be revealed at 10:30. Evasive but we knew he was full of it. I have to say, I hope you know how cool your fans are, anyone I’ve met from the board is super nice. Sean, sorry we missed you!
Oh, was the film taken for corporate use, or will we get to see it someday? They had some major equipment out there.
Have a great day, safe trip home. See you at Avalon.
Love,
Sue

Question for Sue. You said you thought the guy that said that U2 were coming out was from Canada. What the heck is the connection? Canadians are stoopid? Mis-informed?
Speak slowly; I'm Canadian. LOL

I was severly bummed last night, because I had to jet and missed everything, but the fact that all of you had such a GREAT time kindof takes the sting out of it.
Still bummed,
Lance
I was all ready to show the "6767" I had drawn on
Deez Nutz. Now I have to turn it into some tribal design, and scare the local torrists with them.

Hey!
That was fun last night... meeting up, eating, chatting, then wandering around Times Square, sipping coffee, searching for the perfect spot to view the show and act the fool. Camp Freddy only played for a short while, but it was totally worth it. The band sounded and looked GREAT. (The only downside being that we could barely hear Scott's voice.)
Deena, Sue, and Kristen, it was so awesome to finally meet you guys. (Deena, you were right... they DID give me my car back from the parking lot in spite of me losing the ticket. LOL) And Mike, it was great to see you again. (Sorry we missed you, Sean.)
I had a fantastic time and can't wait to see all of you at Avalon.
BTW... Is it just me, or do you guys suddenly feel the urge to go out and buy a Saturn? :P

BTW, the new Saturn cars do look amazing. Are you gonna be on their website or in a commercial?
It was great seeing DENISE, DEENA, SUE and KRISTEN (SUE'S daughter/younger sister). I hope to see you lovely ladies at Avalon.

(I believe that) MTV/VH1 have dropped the ball as it relates to servicing MUSIC (not that missing Dave's tats is truly any indication of this). They do a great job of servicing the music BUSINESS, but in the long run do a disservice to those that enjoy music by helping to perpetuate (and actually accelerating) the conditions that are eroding the breadth and depth of available music.
It’s almost 3am, and probably not the best time for me to ramble on about my pseudo-intellectual take on the current state of music. To be fair, MTV/VH1 are about entertainment and more importantly, about making money. It just pisses me off that it seems like everything is going in the wrong direction, and they are in one of the best positions to help turn this around.
None of this has anything to do with Kyle’s point (obviously, I really shouldn’t be posting without any sleep), so –
forget all that other stuff, and more to the point:
Yeah – they missed Dave’s tats!
oh - and Caffeinated Sue, THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are the BEST!

Dave,
we have a free newspaper in the UK called Metro(it's a pretty cool paper, not a tabloid pile of shit),everyday they have a celebrity Q&A,today it was with Carmen, and they asked her about Carmen's Electronica Hour, sadly they just said "on Dave's US Radio show"and not Dave's Spread Radio Live show, still,i guess you could call this SRL's first bit of UK press.
Keep it up,maybe in the future there will be a live UK based broadcast while your here for a few TPC show huh?

Dave, can you please confirm/deny this?
"Don't believe the rumors. Not only are rocker Dave Navarro and his wife of three years, Carmen Electra, still together, but they're getting ready to start a family. "Carmen and I are doing great," Dave tells In Touch. "We hear these rumors that we're breaking up and we just laugh about them."
Dave, 38, says the busy couple--he's touring and Carmen, 33, is filming a new movie--are planning to start a new chapter in their lives together. "We'll have our baby in 2007," he says. 'It's something we definitely want to do.'"

The Gospel of Judas: Nothing New Under the Sun (Updated)
It is all over the news today, as predicted (and, obviously, planned, given the date). "The Gospel of Judas Contradicts Christian Belief!" "Judas was Doing Jesus' Will!" "Christianity Shaken!" Blah, blah, blah. When you get your historical and theological information from Katie Couric on the Today Show, well, you'll buy anything.
When I was responding to Bart Ehrman's media blitz on his book, Misquoting Jesus, I repeatedly emphasized the need for every-day Christians to start studying these sources so as to be able to provide a meaningful response in an ever more anti-Christian context in Western Society. Well, here's another example. For those who have already realized Bart Ehrman's "if they said Jesus once, they were Christians" mythology makes no sense, this is another second century gnostic writing, like Thomas or Mary. Judas was one of the favorites of the gnostics; this gospel is gnostic to its core; gnosticism is utterly incompatible with anything that can seriously be called "Christian." End of story. Explain to the guy on the bus who just saw the Today interview (which had zero meaningful content). Go on with your daily service to Christ.
But, of course, not only are most Christians completely and utterly unaware of gnosticism, Nag Hammadi, aeons, dualism, etc., but they are likewise easily troubled by the culture's invocation of the holy and authoritative phrase, "scholars." Bart Ehrman is having to guzzle Starbucks to survive all the interviews he is doing today, all the while promoting his key argument: early Christianity was a mass of self-contradiction, and what we have today was just one small sliver that somehow managed to survive to predominance. And hence, due to lack of discipline and foundation, many are left wondering about the very foundations of their "faith."
Let's set the record straight right off the bat.
First, this isn't news. Not really, anyway. Word has been out on this for quite a while. Since early 2001.
Second, this work of fiction has nothing to do with the historical Judas. Even folks like Bart Ehrman admit that.
Third, this is a gnostic work. It is soaked in the terminology and worldview of gnosticism. That is, it is dualistic in its views. Note the citations in the above cited source and the appearance of the term "aeon." Note as well this source holds to the gnostic distinction between the Creator and the Ultimate God. Since gnosticism was dualistic, believing matter to be evil, spirit to be good, the Creator was a demi-urge, an evil divine power, not the Ultimate and Good God. Hence, according to this work of gnostic fiction from the middle of the second century, Jesus was the son not of the Creator, Yahweh, but of the Ultimate and Good God. Further (and this even came out, however briefly, in the Today interview I saw), the gnostic body/spirit dualism, the very concept that caused the Greeks to begin mocking Paul when he mentioned the resurrection in Athens (Acts 17:32), is found in this fictional work, where Jesus is aided by Judas in ridding himself of his "earthly frame." You might as well say a work written by a Buddhist or a Muslim is relevant to the definition of the Christian faith, for nothing is more definitional of Christian belief than the consistent monotheism taken without interruption from the Hebrew Scriptures, and nothing more central to the gospel than true resurrection.
Fourth, if the same kind of strident skepticism was applied to this work that is regularly aimed at the Gospel of John, it wouldn't have made the "books received" notices in a minor theological journal somewhere. The double-standard of modern liberal "theology" is glaring, and, of course, the MSM (main stream media) is more than happy to put anything that could possibly cause disbelief in Christianity at the top of its front page or the first hour of its morning show. Of course, find a pre-Uthmanian manuscript of the Qur'an that truly does utterly shake the foundations of Islam and you wouldn't hear a word out of these same brave journalists.
So should someone come up to you at work going, "Hey, Bob, I know you are a Christian, but how about that Gospel of Judas! Sure throws your Bible into a tailspin, doesn't it?" just smile and respond, "Hey, I heard about that. I've been wondering all morning how a work of fiction written more than a century after the fact by a writer seeking to promote a completely different religion than that of Christ and the Apostles that doesn't have a shred of historical foundation to stand on could possibly get so much major air time. You think they'd give the same amount of attention to something that reflected badly on Mohammed? Nah, probably not. So, did you hear anyone actually talking about the vast differences between the real gospels and this work of fiction this morning?" [Read More!]

Hey Dave.. i'm not sure when you're answering questions again but i have a serious one. having read your book numerous times, i know that in your years before your marriage to carmen you went through a lot of tough relationships. what would you say is the best way to get over a broken heart? and how did you find hope for the future in those times when someone shattered your heart?
thanks if you find the time to answer this, i do really look up to you and value your opinion.
Posted by: Jazmin at April 13, 2006 06:46 PM
Would the journo's poking at Dave about his marriage here please go away? I'd be cruder but it's Good Friday and I don't want to be un-Christian today of all days. Most of the posters here are ignoring you but as I'm not a regular I feel freer to say something. YOU ARE BEING TOTALLY IRRITATING AND OBNOXIOUS. I hope you find a more worthy way of spending your short few years on this planet in the future. God bless your future endeavours and may they be more worthy of your potential.
By the way, thanks to the regulars here who gave me recommendations on the best of Dave's music in the past. I would have thanked you before but the thread got closed before I could say anything.
Good night, everyone.

Who's seen the South Park episode where Chef wants the flag changed because it's racist. It's a black stick figure person being hung, with 4 white stick figures around it. "Keep it cos it's part of our history, change it cos it's racist" And the mayor changes it in a way that she thinks will make everyone happy. By putting a smile on the black stick figure's face. Isn't that just like this Gospel of Judas? It's okay, Jesus was smiling. Oo

Yoshi, just went to the site and it is a bunch of Duran Duran stuff. Just letting you know. This is Dave Navarro's web site , you know RHCP , JA , PFP , TNO.Sorry, I don't mean to be cocky, but come on man. Duran Duran , Dave Navarro. No comparison there.Oh, I have got to get some damn sleep before I get really arrogant. Once again Yoshi, my apologies.Sleep well all. -Shawna.

Hi, i think is so cool that u all got together to see the camp freddy show! i see u had a great time, and i'm glad for that... if i ever get to go to USA i hope to do that too!!! :D
about the Judas Gospel, i dont think thats going to change the beliefs of anyone that has really strong beliefs... if u have a real faith, and a strong personality, u wont change what u believe because of that... why to believe that and not to believe what other 4 apostols wrotte, is a matter of choice and culture, u can choose to believe what u want, but if u use to believe in the holy bible, and u have a strong mind, nothing is going to change, not your faith, not your beliefs, and certainly not the history...

Judas was a Jew.
Jesus was a Jew.
The Romans killed Jesus by Judas' betrayal.
So the Romans killed a Jew by the hand and mouth of another Jew.
