Sunday 10

1. I just read your book again and I was wondering what your relationship with Neil Strauss is nowadays. Do you ever talk to him or see him or anything?

Actually, Neil and I are currently working on a new project with our friend and co-writer Cliff Dorfman. I can't say much about what it is, but the three of us are actually getting together today for a meeting of the minds and a couple of hours in Microsoft Word. I can say that what we are working on is fiction and is unlike anything I have ever been a part of before.

2. Could you reveal anything about the way you go about learning other artists' songs? Like when you're playing with Camp Freddy or the recent VH1 show with Heart...

I simply just "play along" until I know the arrangement well, then I focus on the parts. It's usually the arrangement that takes the most focus. It's like if I play along while learning that, the parts just kind of fall into place. Once I have that down, I'll stay pretty true to the original, however, I'll throw in my own flavor from time to time such as solos or riffs throughout the track.

3. So how are your guys choosing cities and clubs for the near future TPC tour?

As for cities, I'm not sure as that is a booking agent call, but we are more than likely going to do a small club tour, hitting clubs that are much like the size of LA's Dragonfly. (300-400 capacity)

4. You've always struck me as being a bit agoraphobic...but lately you seem like a social butterfly...do you have to really make an effort to get out and about or do your moods just vary?

I have definitely gotten a lot better about it these days for sure. When it comes to big events, I usually only go if Carmen or I have a reason to go, such as a show, film premiere or what have you. As for just hanging out, I go through phases of either being all over the place or just staying in. I'm like out 6 nights a week or home 6 nights a week. Also, when there is a lot of work, I am more likely to do things after I get off, than if I was just home and decided to simply pick up and roll.

5. Do you and Carmen work out together as in go to the gym together?

Sometimes but not too often. We actually go to different gyms for the most part as she likes the equipment at hers and I prefer the equipment at mine. Also, I am usually there longer than her so when we do go together, she ends up having to wait for me.

6. Hey come to think of it would you mind filling us in on your work out routine. What you work on what days, how & how many times.

Very simple. I do an hour of cardio up to four times a week and do a light weight full body work out twice a week. Abs each day. For conditioning, I change up the forms of cardio and weight exercises to keep myself from getting used to certain exercises and to keep from getting bored.

7. What is going to be different for you as an exec producer on this years Rockstar?

It means more meetings with music publishers and sponsors, but it also means more creative input as in the types of clinics and finding the talent and personnel that will appear on the show as in guest judges. It's more of a creative role. I'm not acting as a suit that comes out during the commercial break and says, "You know, we really can't have you saying that on Network Television." In fact, the great thing about this show is that nobody does that. It's a pretty free environment.

8. Hey Dave, I saw you in a picture w/ Brittany Murphy on imdb.com. Are you guys buds?

Yeah I met her through Carmen several years ago. I also did a small cameo thing with Mark McGrath and Carmen in her film, Uptown Girls. She is truly one of the nicest people out there.

9. Whatever happened with that guy that called into CFR and said he was the one that took something of yours-he apologized and said he'd return it...or something...What ever happened with that situation?

That was about a guy who stole one of Chaney's pedals after a TPC gig. He ended up coming down and returning it.

10. Hey Dave, you've mentioned doing some things for the charity cure autism now (I think that's the one). Any specific ties to the charity or friends w/ autism?

I do have ties to that organization. I have a close family member that suffers from autism.

That's what is so nice about you Dave, you satiate us with info, but you do it while still being able to maintain a fairly private persona. I have to say that I am more than a little grossed out by the whole "Gawker Stalker" website...I don't want that. But it is nice to know a little about the person one admires from afar. I don't care where you buy coffee or where you have lunch. That shit just creates a nasty vibe.

Thanks for answering that q. I thought about that last week when I listened to CFR. I thought maybe the guy would have been afraid to actually show up in person..lol Glad it's all worked out and everyone is umm..safe and unharmed..heh

would anyone like some pasta,i have buttered crusty bread too,let go italian

Byn, I like what you said. I think the same exact way. It's nice to come here and Dave just is who he is, says what he wants and shares. If he talks about eating salad on SRL, that is okay too. Just make the rest of us hungry(Thanks Steve L too...just dangle it like a carrot). Is it okay to admire the person as a person and not be all into the "persona"? I hope so. It's the human side I admire most. I haven't been a "fan" that long. What I know about you is from only a few months until now. I can't tell you much about your past as I wasn't there, nor have I gone back to read about it all.
Dave your life is somewhat more exciting then mine, so it's nice to read about what you are doing. I've never been the screaming have to meet someone kind of fan. I would be nervous meeting you just the same as I would be nervous meeting any stranger. I also write too much, haha.
I think you're a cool person with a lot going on. I admire the talent and love the personality. I'm feeling all human being emotional now. Steve had to talk about good food too...haha.

Peace

Good read by Loren D. Estlemen

feel the atmospheric grit.

Dave,

Thanks much for all the info and the answering of the questions! It all sounds very interesting... You seriously hook us up with the info. In addition, last C.F.R. was great, Inger Lorre and her crew made for great guests to listen to!

Hi Dave, hi everyone,

Wow... I see that a lot has transpired over the past few days. Executive producing, a writing project, a possible mini-tour, etc. Dave, that's so great that you're exploring so many new horizons. If anyone has what it takes to kick butt in all of those areas, it's you.

All the best,

cure autism now seems like a damn good choice.

The Paradise in Boston would be perfect for you guys to play in...Gavin rocked it this past year when he was launching Institute. A cool room.

Is it true that some of Season 1 on Rockstar will be back for season 2?? a Yahoo report says that Sweet Suzie McNeal has already been asked back as a contestant...seems weird since I thought she was working on a solo disc, as is Jordis.
