Hey Dave, can't wait to hear the show.

Quick question (or maybe QUESTIONS) if you have time to answer at any point. :p I know Ozzfest is coming up and you're friends with Ozzy. Do you usually attend? Any plans to this year? I heard Manson might be one of the big acts but there's been no confirmation.

Anyway, have a great show! :)

Hey Dave, I'm a friend of TA's. We're working on a film together and I'm the drummer for a band called Bridge. Last week he was in my city (Charlotte NC) and we were talking.........I was telling him about this great show that I listen to on Indie 103.1 called CFR. He then ofcourse tells me his position............wow.....its a small world after all. Thought that was pretty interesting. Looking forward to hearing Panic man!! Keep it up.

Hey Dave! I'm a huge fan! I put all the Camp Freddy Radio podcasts on my Ipod and listen to them as I work-out! I was listening the other day and you commented about some music you would listen to when you would drive around messed up "without a care in the world" well, it made me laugh because i would blast Jane's and your solo CD when I was messed up without a care in the world. And stay off the drugs... I'm only 19 but anyways, I can't wait to here your new band and hope you come to Houston, Texas!

Dave - you want the chatroom love? You gotta announce you will be in there & then wait for the internet delay.
There was about 30 people in that room within 10 seconds of you announcing you were logging on - it was too funny!
Great show as usual....could we have some MORE webcast time of your shoes? We don't get enuf! lol

Good morning, Dave. Good morning, family.
it was great hearing and seeing you on CFR last night. I think a video for "Deez Nuts" is in order.

I loved the subject of discussion that the last caller brought up, about whether the dilemna facing the music business today is a factor of distribution or exposure..what a topic for a Tuesday morning commute...wink, wink..

have a great Sunday, peeps, It'sa bit overcast here in southern cali, what I like to call a navarro sky..
love,
jezzi

Hi all,

Looks like Messy has a lil' bruise on her leg. Is that some new look? Hope so, because I have a huge one on my leg right now. I guess I'm in good company. :)

Been kinda busy these days, but you guys are always in my thoughts. Hope everyone is doing well on this fine Sunday.

Love,

Nice listening to the rebroadcast. Cleaning and listening. Great points about the music industry. I wonder why the music awards shows have low ratings? Money talks.... DN< you are helping the unsigned bands a lot angel:) Love ya,Db

I wish that I had more time to discuss the state of music today with Dave last night, but in hearing myself – I realize that I must have been nervous, which is strange, because I never get phased (I sounded like Kermit the frog on helium). Since I won’t have an opportunity to call if this does become a topic Tuesday morning, I wanted to put something out here for those that may be calling Dave on the commute in.

Actually, the topic of distribution vs. exposure was a leading question. I was hoping to bring Dave (and anyone that cared to listen) to the conclusion that the state of music today is a function of exposure. The business follows the money – if there is exposure and subsequent demand, distribution will follow. The music business is a lot like gravity. If you don’t remember learning about gravity, please allow me to bore you for a quick minute.
Imagine a rubber sheet, pulled tight, with a large ball on it, which deforms the sheet – so that anything near the ball starts to roll towards it. In the same way, the earth distorts space/time, and the moon is drawn towards the earth (I won’t bore you with why it doesn’t crash into us).

Ok, science lesson over - but now imaging the music business as a taught rubber sheet. Now imagine that on this sheet are different artists. Back in what we old people call “the day there were LOTS of artists dispersed on this sheet. There were so many, that no individual one of them made a big dent in the sheet, just lots of individual depressions in it. Now imagine money being drawn to each of these artists (like the moon example) – there wasn’t any one of them that took ALL of the money, there was enough to go around and to also help in artist development.
Things are different now. Now we have only a few artists making BIG depressions in the sheet, and ALL of the money comes rolling towards them, not leaving any for signing new artists or even for the development of the lucky few that get signed. This is obviously BAD, as it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy – the record companies put money into these few, and get a nice return. Since there is no incentive for the record companies to change the status quo, things will stay the way they are – and will probably get worse (imaging the ball getting bigger and bigger, sucking more and more of the money towards it).

We can change this. More to come…

-Lance

Yeah - that was a bit much...
Let's replace that with
Dave, you ROCK! I want to have your babies, you sexy man.

(I feel the need to fit in).

Lance, GREAT POST BUDDY!:)

Posted by: Danni at March 26, 2006 04:44 PM

Pretty cool Lance.
Science fiction about music business...
Let's turn those phasers on and teleport the motherfuckers out of the music industry...
Where are the rock bands after 10 years, or so?
I hope they are not hunted to extinction. After all Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Jane's... They are dinosaurs!!!

Heads up
"Play it again, Dave"

"Since there is no incentive for the record companies to change the status quo, things will stay the way they are – and will probably get worse (imaging the ball getting bigger and bigger, sucking more and more of the money towards it).
We can change this. More to come…"

consumers (which is everyone who shops famous or not) have a big play in this. we don't buy their music they don't get. so buy music carefully and only towards the ones you fully support and things can change little by little...

Posted by: Savvy at March 27, 2006 05:21 AM

Ok, am I the only one who couldn't listen to Messy's broadcast? I had to turn it off within the first three minutes because I couldn't stand her high-pitched voice changes... that sucks, too, because I was really looking forward to it. Sorry, Messy :(

***I wonder why the music awards shows have low ratings?***

Hmmmmmmm, cause the music sucks. Can we say Britney, Jessica, Ashlee, and the wannabees...

Hey,

I wanted to take a quick moment to say "hi" and weigh in on the music industry discussion, a topic that never ceases to fascinate me.

I've lived through several musical and technological phases/trends, and it's now clear that the music industry is in an uncertain state of flux right now, in light of the internet, downloading, iPods, etc. The answer and final outcome remain to be seen.

But I truly believe this: As long as GREED is the key motivating factor behind the music industry, the quality of the music - and the industry itself - is bound to suffer. (At least in the past, record-label execs seemed to be driven by greed AND a genuine love for/belief in the music!)

That passion, that love and appreciation for music in all its many wonderful forms, seems to be missing from the "industry" in general these days. Which is very, very sad. And says a lot about the society in which we live.

That said, it's great that someone high-profile like Dave, is doing his part to help bring about change and make more voices get heard.

Later,

Posted by: Denise at March 27, 2006 10:03 AM

ahh, Denise...you are the queen of right words, right time....!!

I, for one, am thrilled to read "the Panic Channel guitarist" rather than, "formerly of Janes Addiction and The Red Hot Chili Peppers" :)

"Carmen Electra Denies Pregnancy Speculation

The New York Daily News reports Carmen Electra fed rumors that she and hubby Dave Navarro are expecting after she refused to sip from the $3,000 Blue Sapphire martini at Foxwoods' $25,000 charity poker tournament. The pricey martini comes with a diamond encrusted stirrer and sapphire earrings. The former 'Baywatch' babe, who came to open the World Poker Tour room, insisted that she's not with child, nor is she splitting with the Panic Channel guitarist."

"The Panic Channel guitarist"...
yes, bring it into the present...
everyone knows what he's done...
but more importantly needs to know what he's doing now... cause the past is gone and the future is yet to be...

evening everyone! so, does the panic channel guitarist know for sure when the new cd is coming out? i am about to explode in anticipation. i hope everyone is doing well!

heather

ps-dave- i (as have you and everyone else) have read the trash they are talking about you and carmen. i know that when people start talking sometimes that in itself creates problems in a relationship so i just wanted to tell you that we all love you here, and know that you and carmen love each other..and the fact that yall do is really the only thing that matters. screw the media!

I think everyone should just get off the Dave and Carmen rumors. Your assertions that nothing is wrong could possibly be more baseless than the rumors that the marriage is effectively over. The point is you don't know. Nor is it anyone's business. If you think about it, it's incredibly ignorant to speculate about the state of someone's personal life (which you know nothing about!) right in their face. This site should be one place Dave can come to and not have to encounter speculation either way. Please drop it and move on.

...sounds like a great premise for a song...

Hey Dave... you ever think about a follow-up record to Trust No One, are you in a completely differently place now? Likewise with your book. I enjoyed both immensely (as I know others did) but is it a case of happiness makes for lousy reading/listening material? And it's even worse to write down and record? :D
