Just Having Fun

Morning! I am just rocking the coffee and checking in on some of the press about Rockstar: Supernova. I love reading how bent some people get about this stuff. Like we are hurting people! Hahahahaha. Here's the way I look at it:

What's better than to put unsigned new rock talent on National TV?
After the INXS show, they went on to do a sold out world tour.
It's a television show! At the end of the day, they can always watch something else.
What I love about this show is that I have a really great time doing it, while at the same time, helping unknown singers get a shot on national television. I suppose that the critics that have a problem with what we are doing can always tune in to The Ashlee Simpson show, Making the Band or that Ashley Parker Angel show. The bottom line? I don't give a fuck! Hahaha... We got Newsted, Clarke and Lee... son!

"Rock Star co-host Dave Navarro has apparently become the same kind of media whore his wife Carmen Electra has built a decade-plus long career out of being." - Malcolm X Abram can be reached at 330-996-3758 or mabram@thebeaconjournal.com

Become? Where has this guy been? I've always had a flair for the whoring. Either way, that's what they said about Andy Warhol, so I have no problem with that company. Carmen has built a decade-plus long career? Good for her. Long live the freedoms of this Nation! Where you can be what you want to be and do what you want to do and make a living doing just that. I suppose that holds true for Malcom, but... There is an old saying: Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym. Those who can't do either, become columnists!

Check out Gregg Simon's response to Mr. Abram's article!

OK. Moving along. Tonight is another SRL with Gregg at 6:00pm PST. This will be my last live show for a while as I am leaving for Cannes (Rockstar stuff), Vegas (Poker Stuff) and then New York (Camp Freddy stuff) on Sunday. Don't forget to cast your vote for your favorite Indie Artist. As it stands, KHZ is killing it! Tomorrow I am rolling down to the Rockstar LA auditions. I'll have a full report on Saturday's Camp Freddy Radio.

I was with you until you until you dissed teachers. I happen to be a doer who teaches. Those who CAN do; those who can't pass the time inflating themselves in blogs.

That line is from Woody Allen's Annie Hall. Take it up with him.

Great use of the School of Rock quote...

Keep rockin brother!

Pony

Posted by: Pony at March 30, 2006 11:39 AM

Silas, lighten up! That saying has been around longer than all of us have been alive! We all remember teachers who that particular saying applied exactly to, and then you have the exceptions, you are, apparently and thankfully, one of those exceptions.

Dave, this is your blog page, say whatever you feel! We love it all!

Critics...of any sort are those that failed miserably at anything of real value to anyone. If this person had any talent at all they would be writing more than trash, a real book someone would buy to validate them.
If you make a living doing anything and live the life you like, you are successful. Keep it up!! The American dream is what you make of it, but it's real if you wish to have it.
He sucks, mean people just suck!!

Posted by: stardreme at March 30, 2006 11:48 AM

Can't blame the guy for being jealous...rock stars get laid. He clearly needs to.

You can blame him for being a little bitch about it, though.

Posted by: Helen at March 30, 2006 11:54 AM

Malcolm X Abram? That dude doesn't even have an original name.

Posted by: AeroGem at March 30, 2006 12:20 PM

Any Panic Channel stuff to report?

Posted by: Steve L at March 30, 2006 12:21 PM

What a dick! I wrote him a little email :)

Anyways...I can't wait for Rockstar to start...Im sure its gonna be a while though. Anyone know when it will be starting up?
I hope you all have a great day. Im off to beg the school counselor to approve my financial aid petition! I need some money! Keep your fingers crossed for me guys.
Love, Amber

Dear Dave and co.

I hate being such a nag, but how do we know how are bands are doing, when I can't see how many votes they have? If it's a private thing, that's cool, too...just bugged about the whole vote to see results..and voting more than once thing...then again, I could be spinning in my own little reality..which is ok, too...

and I am a teacher, I love the Woody Allen line, and I so obviously CAN'T do....

love to Dave!!

Hey that guy writes for the Beacon Journal in Akron where I'm from! I'm famous woohoo!

Haha just made me laugh that he's the journalist who got singled out there.

Posted by: Loungefly04 at March 30, 2006 01:35 PM

It ain't easy out ther for a ho, so you gotta hustle and flow!!! and I doubt he's even got enough jizz in him to be a ghetto pimp!!!

Posted by: Savannah Skye at March 30, 2006 01:37 PM

OK, now what does it mean if you're neither a rock star nor a teacher nor a columnist... I guess that makes me a big loser. But I knew that already!

In all seriousness, you don't have to explain or defend yourself to us, that's for sure! As long as you are passionate and happy about what you do, that's all that matters. You're a huge inspiration for those of us trying to figure out how to do the same.

BTW, Carmen looked smashing as usual on Leno last night. (My better half was hogging up the PC, so it was all about the TV instead of SRL.)

Hopefully I'll catch SRL tonight... I want to hear all about these exciting excursions you're about to embark on, especially in NYC.

Cheers and ciao for now,

Posted by: Denise at March 30, 2006 02:56 PM

Hey Dave - heard you in an interview the other day, and you totally had me believing for a sec that the new name for Rockstar was gonna be Rockstar: The Revenge. Damn. I liked that name, too.

Posted by: JYM at March 30, 2006 03:14 PM

Haha you reaction to that guy calling you a whore is similar to what happened last week, when someone called my sister spoiled and snobby. She was all upset, but I told her I really didn't see anything wrong with either of those qualities, as long as you're not rude about it. Ya know? Lol.

Posted by: amy at March 30, 2006 04:18 PM

DAVE- does Carmen ever get tired of people hitting on her? Last night on Leno it seems like all the boys did was hit on her..does she ever just want to be able to skip all of that? she did say some nice things about you though and she demonstrated her circus class stuff (and managed to keep herself covered at the same time which i found impressive)

Busy man again!DAMN DN< I am TIIIIIIIIIRED(yawn) can't miss the SRL. Missed it last night. Wishing you a fun trip! Again, remember the boat slogan I told you about earlier. People are sick that have to TALK about others:( Those of us that have LIVES-blog and go on myspace:) Love ya hun,Db

Posted by: Danni at March 30, 2006 05:46 PM

ya gotta love the haters - best to give out what you want back. besides what's a little shameless self-promotion -doesn't hurt anyone and you give back besides. when you've got the chops (and you DO!) why not be proud...and confident.

Posted by: mary at March 30, 2006 05:48 PM

I think the new format of the show will work. I liked INXS for who they were as people... their legend didn't really add that much appeal to the show for me. As long as the season 2 "prize" is appealing to the contestants and the singers are of the caliber as season 1 the show will work. The T.V. audience is obviously there for the performances and watching their favorites develop from week to week. Can't wait to see it.

Posted by: Mike at March 30, 2006 06:30 PM

Crap!!!! I go to listen to SRL and realize that a) It starts at 6 PST and not 7 PST. (Don't ask me why I thought it was 7, or 10 EST...) and b) My PC speakers are apparently officially shot. As in, not working. At all. Kaput. This stinks! :(

Hope you guys enjoy the show. Let me know if I miss anything of major significance, such as what's going on in NYC. Thanks!

Love,

Just my luck... I rebooted, and my speakers now work. Now that SRL is over. Go figure.

It just ain't happening for me today! Oh well... Good night, all!

"Rock Star co-host Dave Navarro has apparently become the same kind of media whore his wife Carmen Electra has built a decade-plus long career out of being."

It is important that couples have things that they can do together. It helps keep the relationship alive. Congratulations on finding that "thing."

DAVE!

It's reported that Anna Benson is getting a divorce. Three's company? :-)

BTW, I was listening to a re-run of SRL yesterday morning, and I heard the bit about Jack Bauer...there's a Chuck Norris version of that floating around on the internet somewhere. My favorite is "Chuck Norris went to the Virgin Islands, and when he got back, they were just the Islands." :-)

question -

do you think the people trying out for rockstar:supernova now have a better chance than those who did before the group was announced? the people now can taylor and try and fit what they think the sound will be a little better than just a cold audition

Dave,

When your sitting around your house messing around on your guitar and you play something you like that you could use sometime how do you keep it with you? Do you write it down? Record it immediatley? How did you handle that with Janes when you couldn't remember what year it was?

Nice responses Gregg...and Lyn! ;)

But, count me among those now wondering about "the co-writer/co-producer of a new TV drama" part...any hints, Dave???

Posted by: Cori at April 1, 2006 08:29 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm with Cori and Jezzi... Curious about this TV drama thing. That is SO awesome. I've always said to everyone I know: "That Dave Navarro guy... Keep an eye on him. He's gonna go places!"

Wonderful letter from Gregg... very well stated. Even though there's no need for Dave or anyone else to explain themselves to some random anonymous columnist, it was quite impressive.

I love what Gregg said about the "whoring" thing... It's so true. Anyone, if given the opportunity to be a "media whore" would jump at the chance. Jealous hypocrisy is ridiculous and pathetic.

Anyhow, it's a beautiful Spring day here in NY, and I hope it's equally beautiful on April 11. A bunch of us want to try to get together for dinner and to catch whatever we can of Camp Freddy. All are welcome! There is a thread on the TPC board, or email me if you're interested and we will hopefully make it work. After all these years of cyber-virtual-interaction, it would be great to meet in real life.

BTW, if anyone in the "inner circle" has more details that they could share here, it would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Denise

*****

Lastly, a possible "Sunday 10" question:

DAVE - Do you have a favorite nail polish brand and/or color? Ever think of coming out with your own line?
