SRL Updates

Gregg and I did an all new Spread Radio Live show last night, as tonight's regular Thursday show has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict. At some point today, the New York show with Steve, the JFK show with Steve and the show from last night with Gregg will all be in rotation on SRL. Our trip to New York was amazing but we might have to readdress some of the mastering bits we did. No big deal, in fact, the last two records I have done had to be remastered a couple of times to get it right. It's hard to know exactly what things sound like till you get home and listen to things on your own system. It's all good though, the record is a mere hours away from being totally done, mastered and sequenced.

The SRL Indie site has been getting a lot of hits. Thanx for your participation! As for new submissions of Indie bands, we will be looking at requests later in the month. Right now we are just tweaking and making sure this all works smoothly. So far, so good. For the time being, we are only accepting submissions from the artists themselves, as we have already received over 1000 entries from fans. We love your enthusiasm, but we also need to be able to give each submission our full attention. If you are a fan of a particular Indie band and wish to help them out, please contact them and have them send in their request. This way, we won't be weeding through lists and bands that don't want to participate. Plus, you would be doing them a great service. Of course, when it comes to the voting, it's all up to the fans.

Hey Dave and everyone! :)

I know you're a fan of Massive Attack Dave, so I thought you'd be interested in hearing about this (if you haven't already)...Nails headlined this show last year, this year its Depeche Mode and Tool! For those of you in So Cal sounds like this will be a great show to see...

I thought I got a bulletin last night that said no SRL due to technical difficulties...???

Posted by: Cori at February 9, 2006 01:14 PM

Yup...I did:

From: Dave Navarro
Date: Feb 8, 2006 10:00 PM
Subject: SRL
Body: Well, this is a first, but due to technical difficulties, we are unable to broadcast tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience...

Was this a hoax Dave???

Also...I have a question, in case the mood strikes you...were you told who the band was for RockStar2 before agreeing to do the show? I cannot imagine agreeing to do it and then having it be a band you detest and being forced to listen to their songs time and time again! rofl

Anyway...have a great day!

"that Coachella line-up sounds fab"...
sure does... and I'm disappointed about Cat Power's tour cancellation (no 2/14 show for me)...

and yup, SRL totally rocks with some of the best music out there...

and the SRL Indie is completely awesome...

Hello, Dave!

Special plans for VD? Are you and the Mrs. going to be together?

Andre tells people how you wished him a Happy Birthday last year. It is Valentine's Day. If you would even send me a message to wish him a happy day, I would appreciate it. He is a sweet kid - taking piano and drum lessons - and starting guitar next year (or that is the plan). But he is an only child and a little on the outside from other kids his age. Your birthday greetings gave him some special. And that, my friend, I will always be greatful for!

Always,
me

The Killola video is amazing. Those guys get my vote.

Posted by: jezebel at February 9, 2006 08:36 PM

Thanks, Dave! It doesn't matter what for, but sincerely, thanks.
Love Steve.

Posted by: Steve at February 9, 2006 09:06 PM

Poor Jezzi!! Someone fill her in on mastering. I haven't a clue, the only mastering I know of has a few letters before the "ing". J/K'ng!

Dave (Dude!), you really shouldn't mess with my days like that. I've had a hell of time trying to figure out why my week had an extra day.

He he he - AOL have forgotten to shut off my access. Shhh - don't tell anyone I am here - I'm skulking around hoping they don't notice ... ;-)

Had a pub debate last night that leads me to a question for the Sunday 10 - Dave, spanker or spankee?

Posted by: Miffy at February 10, 2006 03:19 AM

LOL when I first read the any plans for VD I totally forgot Valentines was this month. I was thinking wow why would anyone plan anything about a VD.. then I caught myself.

Dave:

On Smashing Pumpkins, heres one for ya: Rhinocerous or Drown? Anyone elses take?

What did you think about the Nirvana Box set? Thats a cool recording of Here She Comes Now!

Whats the worst thing youve ever done in addiction? Or that you wouldnt do now. (The playboy mansion from your book just came to mind!) Im sure it doesnt regard Enfamil, or suckin dick but I know obsession turned to abscession and we all have the war storys we're not supposed to embellish. Feel free to pass-bad question.

If you could recommend one cd, what would it be?

Ever chill with Long Beach Dub Allstars? Also it seems there are less festivals on the West Coast, am I wrong? Bonnarroo, New Orleans Jazz Festivals, Berkshire Festival, Bread n Puppet type shit...I guess livin out east has some perks....like Trey and havin had Phish around for so long. Ever give Phish a listen?

Ever meet any of the Napster kids? I met some interesting people that were groundstarters and now work at stubhub.com. Good people

Also check out begoodfamily.com "Be good to others, be good to the Earth, Be good to yourself, be good"

Jezzi: An easy way to explain mastering is sounds are recorded on tracks. Each track will hold different sound, Example: vocal, atmospherics, guitar, keyboard ECT. In the final mastering stage-sound engineers will tweek all the tracks and find out what filters/technical stuff will sound best. The polishing of the album so to speak. On the other hand polishing may mean taking out sounds/filters on a track. Its more engineering than laying down the sounds. Studio engineers are genius'. You should watch the Nirvana Nevermind DVD and get into a studio if you ever have a chance. Making music in the studio is a helluva fun process.
