Sundance

I'm going out to Sundance today to conduct two days of radio interviews for Indie 103.1FM. I'm gonna be the "on location guy" out there for the station, probably because I'm the only one willing to deal with the cold! I'm not sure on the times that these will air, more than likely around 3:00pm PST. I'm also taking part in a poker tournament tonight, so it's kind of a vacation of sorts. The mixes are sounding killer and we should be done with everything by tomorrow night. I had a quick in and out day at NAMM yesterday and visited the PRS, Yamaha and Roland booths. I ran into a few 67's and SRL listeners which was awesome, but I had to cut my day short as I was due back in the studio to work on Left To Lose. As it stands, all that is left to mix is Blue Bruises and Lie Next To Me. I don't like not being there for mixes, but I have faith in Steve and Ryan. They know what they are doing.

Nice to hear about your good progress with mixing the album. It kinda makes me all the more keen on waiting for its release. Well, good things are worth waiting, they say, so maybe I'll last. Have a nice time at Sundance!

Peace out!

Dave,
Have fun in the snow.....
I can't wait to visit LA and Rokbar in 6 months.

Later,
Mike from NYC

Do you think Indie would let you keep recordings of your interviews at Sundance for rebroadcast on SRL?

jezzi(just thinkin')

Posted by: jezebel at January 22, 2006 11:38 AM

Do you know David Hobbs? Or is he just a name-dropper. He said he knew Jane (the heroin addict) cuz he used to shoot up with her when he lived in Long Beach. Is she still alive?

Carmen is gorgeous, btw, and I dig the way you two interact. The chemistry between you is obvious.

Good luck with the tournement!

It's not that cold out, it's nice and sunny.

The bad news for today is that my uncle passed away (My mom's sister's husband) from a heart attack. He was just over 50.

Enjoy being "on location". Happy to hear that the mixing is going well. Have fun with the poker tournament...I had two straight flushes in one sitting the other day in Atlantic City, playing Texas Holdem...I hope some of my luck comes your way!!

Dave, can you give a brief rundown of the the steps in making an album? I mean you record the parts, you mix 'em, what's next? How long do you bake & at what temp. Are there microwave instructions? I'm just curious. Rock on- Steve.

HEY YOU GUYS!i was just on myspace, and my brother posted a web site that is just gravy...
i never would have thought.
i will always have something to make me laugh now
it generates slogans from your name or i guess what ever you put in it, i haven't made it that far. but i did do Dave's and one for Carmen...
Carmen's was" Do You, uh,Carmen Electra?"
& Dave's" Do you eat the Navarro last?"
and mine was of course...
"Takes a Shellee and keeps on tickn'."

i am so sorry to bother ya all with this, however it is one of the funniest things i have seen in my lifetime...hats off to who thought up!
Dave my love and warmest wishes are with you! congrats on almost being done with the album!
xoxo to you and Carmen and of course the 6767ers!
ya all is great!

Hey Dave,

I heard from a reliable source that VELVET REVOLVER are having huge problems with Slash (mostly related to his wife, whom no one can stand and who continues to involve herself in the band's affairs) and that they have actually approached you about joining the band. But you apparently turned it down. Can you please confirm/deny this? It would be great to at least put this rumor to rest, one way or the other.

Thanks. I really hope you will answer this question.

Hey Dave, I think you and Zakk Wylde hold the record for most consecutive appearances in US guitar mags. It's great to see one of my guitar heros out there pushing new guitars but it'd be cool to see an interview where you chat a little about the Panic Channel and give us guitarfantics an idea of what to expect. Thanks man and keep doing your thing!

hey dave,

when are you going to get to work on another solo album? Just remember Trust No One was great because you were experimenting(In both senses but more importantly in the musical sense) and you were brave enough to make a song like very little daylight and Slow motion Sickness.

Dave, just wanted to tell you that you got a cool mention on Grey's Anatomy last night. Some guy who hurt his hand made mention that "one day I will sit at a bar and tell people how I used to play better than Dave Navarro.." Something like that. It made me smile, just thought I'd share. Have fun at Sundance.

Oh shit, just realized who that was on Grey's Anatomy...It was still cool but I'm sure you already knew about it.

I have worked my last Sunday for this bleeding bank. I start as a loan processor which means mornings, that sucks but it will be a much better position with the bank. Longer drive, but oh well. I am stoked cuz I don't have to deal with this stupid bullshit anymore. YAY. I took escalation complaint calls from the public and it sucked hard in a bad way. ;) Anything that means more Jonesy can't be bad at all! Q. for Dave, is there any chance we unfortunates that missed your interviews thus far will be able to podc. it? thanx Dave. ---peace ck

Hey Dave....I've been hanging around your site since Friday. Reading all the archives (I'm up to October 2004 now) and checking everything out (Watched TDDUP and loved it). Don't know what made me search for your name on Friday night, but I'm darn glad I did.

I'm a newbie fan of yours. Didn't know who you were until Rock Star was on last year. Didn't think about you again until I heard you speaking to ManCow one morning about two weeks ago and he mentioned reading your book. Since then I've been hooked. I ordered your book and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I downloaded TNO this evening and love every bit of it. Great job on it!!!! I sure hope you decide to do some more solo work soon.

So far the impression I get from your site is that you are a very down to earth, level headed guy. It is great to see you so involved with your fans on this site. It makes you more of a "real person" and not just a "famous rock star". Which of course you are both.

Well I just wanted to drop a note and say hello. I'll be around here more in the future. I always take pleasure in getting to know someone who is a true and genuine person, which I feel you are.

I hope you had a great time in Utah and didn't freeze. You'll have to fill us in on all the happenings.

Thanks for SRL. I listened to the archive you have up and loved every minute of it. You are a natural on the radio. I like the way the show is very relaxed and laid back. You and Gregg let your true personalities come out.

Okay, I'm out of here for tonight. 6:00 am comes awfully early for us on the East Coast.

Take care,
Jackie

I can understand why many would be like, 'yeah right, that's not him' with Dave or any other star, I don't ever believe it. But, this my dear, is Dave.

Come back and enjoy!

Morning D & Fam,
Maria, so sorry about your uncle. Love to you.

This is what I got today from VH1.com:
"For unadulterated celebrity gawking, it was hard to beat the poker tournament that featured nearly 50 familiar faces, including Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra, Gina Gershon, Shannon Elizabeth and seemingly every actor who has ever appeared on "That '70s Show"...Then again, with first prize being a condominium rumored to be worth a million bucks,..."
SO? What was first prize, and did you win it?
Also, you and TPC got a mention in the weekly 80's nuts newsletter I receive.
Have a great day, everyone!
Love,
Sue

Dave- great interviews again today, very entertaining. Rock on, baby.

Hey Dave! LONG time reader, first time posting. I'm wondering... did Outkast copyright the phrase, "I'm... just being honest"(from Hey Ya)? I noticed that it was edited out in the scenes where you are leaving to go on tour and Carmen can't stop laughing. It just seemed an odd thing to be edited.
Have you ever thought of writing a book for guys on how to treat women? You seem to be an expert in TDDUP. :)

^Indeed Sue, indeed.

Dave, what'd you get in the form of swag? I saw some pretty hefty swag bags on CNN. Definitely a sweet gig to be a part of. Some movies that were originally shown at Sundance: Napoleon Dynamite, Clerks, Sex Lies & Videotape, Reservoir Dogs- starring the recently departed Mr. Penn.

Can Dave or someone give some detail on "Amp Modelers". I had the Behringer V2 which did a lot of shit for $99. The Line 6 is more expensive and has a different layout is the only difference I know. The Behringer didnt sound cheap either. DAVE-Behringer is at NAMM? shows you go to? Have you played the funny looking guitar shaped V2 amp modeler? PLEASE HELP with information-I want to make the investment again, and get the right product. Im not playing live, like to record, and my amps a Fender M-80 which is kinda basic sounding 80s amp*solid state is all Ill ever afford.

Striking up conversation, if you call it that.....Heres one for ya.....How many spectrums are in a microcosm? Anyone

Posted by: boots at January 25, 2006 07:34 AM

Boots,
I had a Line 6 Pod XT. Really nice with loads of effects, sounds brilliant through a stereo or an amp. It had USB output too and good online support and patches from Line 6's site. Excellent for recording. Looked like a kidney bean.
The downside was that the additional foodswitches were a fair bit of money on top of the initial cost, especially if you wanted to control the Wah/Volume. Without it you have to be quick to change effects/amp with your hand mid strum which became irritating.
In the end I found I was sticking with one amp which sounded amazing and a handfull of effects, so I stuck it on eBay, and bought the actual pedals. Stuck a couple of guitars on too and got a small valve amp.
I'm no expert, so I couldn't tell you how realistic the tones were, but there is a wide array of amazing amp tones.
On the whole I loved it, but it was wasted on me, I'm not very adventurous with my sound. If you like lots of effects and tweaking about, you'd love it. They're popping up on eBay in the UK constantly.
Good luck.
Stevo
