Fun With Photoshop/New Podcast/Sunday 5

This is funny. I have been getting some comments on MySpace lately about how I stole the coffin photo idea from Ville of H.I.M. So, naturally I looked at his picture. I must say they are very close. Upon further inspection I came to realize that they pretty much exactly the same. Someone has put his face on my body for the Ville shot. Whoever did it, did a great job, which leads me to believe it was more than likely done by one of his fans. I doubt very much that he would knowingly have this done himself. The real give away is the hands. You can see my tattoos on his hands. Oh, the magic of Photoshop! Anyone who knows me knows that I have done this quite a few times myself. There is the one of me and Rene, me and teacher Mary Kay, me and Carmen Electra... Oh, wait, MOST of those are real. Hey, at least it was done with a pretty cool guy like Ville, but don't get any funny ideas out there. I don't want to get e-mailed with a bunch of George W's lying in a coffin with tattooed hands!

1. If you were stranded on a desert island which ONE CD would you have with you?

That's a toss up between The Wall and The Fragile.

2. Dave, do you smoke cigars?

Well, if someone gives me a good one I will, but I am not the type to go out and buy them.

3. Tom and Chris from Myspace are going to be at Sundance, doing events to promote their independent film section. Any plans to meet the original myspace friend?

No, not really. If they happen to be walking by, I'll say hi, but I don't seek people out like that.

4. Don't know if you know this or not Dave, but your Podcast link in iTunes in broken. It no longer updates.

That's my fault. I thought the links on the right would upload, but I have to actually post the new Podcast links like this new one from last night. There, it should work now!

5. With those "in the know" predicting the demise in a few years of albums in favor of digital downloads, I wondered if you still actually purchase CDs yourself, if so, what was the last one?

I honestly think the last purchase I made was the NIN album. Other than that, I pretty much download everything and burn discs. I am a huge iTunes shopper!

Hey Dave,

Have you seen Celebrity Big Brother UK? Traci Bingham and Dennis Rodman are in the house.

Denis is staying well clear of Traci, don't s'pose you or Carmen know why?

Traci has been talking about Carmen and how she was her bridesmaid or something.

What 80's hair metal bands are your guilty pleasures? You've given a shout to Skid Row on the radio, performed with members of Warrant and Ratt (not that they should be in the same category). What's a couple of your 80's hair metal guilty pleasures? Songs or albums...

Hey Dave, I have a question for you.

In your opinion, what do you think is the better song; "Mr. Self-Destruct" or "Only"? Both great Nine Inch Nails songs, but which one do you like better?

Dave, Do you ever get sick of talking about yourself?

Posted by: Pistol at January 8, 2006 03:00 PM

It's a pretty good job on the fake photo. The main giveaway(other than the hands) is that his hair is falling in the wrong direction, meaning it was taken from a picture of him standing and not laying down.

I was at Target last night and saw that they are selling Till Death Do Us Part, the show that you and carmen had on mtv.Its only being sold at Target. Is every episode on that DVD cause I really want to buy it? Please if someone knows could you email me. Thanks guys!!

SOME COMMENETS ABOUT THE DIGITAL MUSIC REVOLUTION

Dave...I'm one of those people that would be perfectly happy buying ALL of my albums digitally. It's more convenient and it is better for the planet at the same time. The ONE thing that holds me back though is the low bitrate that the tunes are sold at over the net. I adore iTunes but I really don't like how the 128 bitrate sounds like. So what I do right now is purchase the hardcopy cds and then import them to my iPod at a bitrate of 320 through the iTunes interface. Once I get a bigger iPod I will be importing into my Ipod at Apple Lossless which sounds absolutely amazing.

Love the show. It's a treat. Keep it up! :)

Well, imitation IS indeed flattery, I guess whoever took the original pic of you should be flattered as well, do you remember who took that pic of you?

YOU, my dear Dave, have the original cool aesthetic, by the way,I LOVE when you use that word!!

I know you don't seek people out, it's usually the reverse, but I think it would be great to see an interview by you with those two..comparing notes about the QUEEN of myspace for example..hahaha
Thanks for answering my questions

I can't beleive someone accused you (Dave) of stealing the coffin idea from the him guy. It is hella obvious that it's you!
I really don't think albums will ever be totally deceased. There are still more people offline than on, beleive it or not! Plus, digital computer tunes never really have the sound qaulity. It's so close, just not quite there.

You're obviously into visual images - often dark - so I wondered, have you seen the artwork by Ray Caesar?

Oh yeah, happy new year everyone! It's really been ages since I last wrote. Sorry about that, in case y'all missed me... not. Been checking the site out, though, on a daily basis.

Hi Dave,
I've got only one technical note about names for CFR podcast files... giving names like cfrjan7 is not very good for archiving and fast orientation by date among many files... better would be format like cfr20060107.mp3 (cfrYYYYMMDD.mp3), because it's more friendly for any platform, HDD players,... which can have only sorting by name... You can say, so rename it as you want and don't touch my name convention... :) but I think that many listeners will appreciate it... have a nice day, Nino :)

Morning D & Fam,
Hey Dave, at Sundance I would definitely try to hit this screening:
"A new documentary entitled American Hardcore will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month which contains vintage footage from many acts including Bad Brains, Black Flag and Minor Threat as well as interviews."
Do you think Henry Rollins will be around? You should definitely interview him, you know he's a fan of yours and he's so entertaining!

Have a great day, everyone!

ROFL...I guess pretty much EVERYBODY reads this blog! From the NY Post:

January 10, 2006 -- DAVE Navarro narrowly escaped a beating at the hands of a hulking hothead at his L.A. lounge, Rokbar, which he owns with Tommy Lee and deejay Paul Oakenfold. The nipple-ringed rocker hubby of Carmen Electra writes on his official site that a "7-foot-tall, 5-feet-wide" guy asked him to take a picture with his sister while Navarro was eating last Thursday night. Navarro politely declined. But after the clean-and-sober guitarist refused a round of shots the man sent over, things turned ugly. A half-hour later, Navarro writes, the enraged stranger returned and cursed him out: "He then loses it and turns over all the drinks and plates on my table, and they all go flying into the air and shatter as they crash into each other and onto the table, causing a rain of glass to fall upon me and my friends. Glass goes into hair, clothes and actually slightly cuts up my arm." Luckily for Navarro, his security staff got between him and the peeved patron, who got in a limo and left.

Posted by: Cori at January 10, 2006 09:13 AM

And luckily for Dave they didn't mention that he waited until after the security staff got between him and the peeved patron to get ghetto *grin*

Next time sweetie, just go for the nads!

He he he - you can just imagine the headline - "Navarro goes nuts" ;-)

Navarro attacked by furious 'fan'
Jan 11, 2006, 13:06 GMT

Carmen Electra's husband, rocker Dave Navarro, narrowly escaped serious injury when a furious fan smashed up his dinner table after the star refused to pose for a photo with him.

The musician, who was eating a meal at the bar he owns with Tommy Lee and DJ Paul Oakenfold, was showered in glass during the violent incident after the 7ft man upturned his table in a rage.

Navarro - who is tee total - claims as well as refusing to take a photo of the man and his sister he had also declined a round of drinks from the fan.

He is quoted in America's New York Post newspaper as saying: 'A seven-foot-tall, five-feet-wide guy asked me to take a picture with his sister and I politely declined. But after I refused a round of shots the man sent over, things turned ugly.

'The guy then loses it and turns over all the drinks and plates on my table, and they all go flying into the air and shatter as they crash into each other and onto the table, causing a rain of glass to fall upon me and my friends.

'Glass goes into my hair, clothes and slightly cuts up my arm.'

Navarro's bodyguards quickly stepped into calm the man, who was escorted off the premises.

^^^^^^
This story sounds more and more dramatic with every new iteration. Like a game of telephone. LOL.

Why is it that the press always insists on using the word "rocker" to describe Dave and his colleagues? It's just such a corny word, IMO. Makes them sound like pieces of furniture. "This rocker will look nice in my den next to the loveseat..."

Just ruminating. Hope everyone is well!

Posted by: Denise at January 11, 2006 12:49 PM

That rocker WOULD look nice in my den - possibly on the loveseat? ;-)

Posted by: Miffy at January 11, 2006 12:58 PM

Hey everyone,
Its funny how they make Dave sound like some dick who just refused an autograph to "a fan" and no mention of the fact he was eating. I guess it makes for a better story to make him out to be some bastard celebrity who denies shots and autographs.
Anyways I saw on the news last night that Bowie is being honored at the Grammys next month with a lifetime achievement type award. Dave are you attending/presenting at the show?
Hope you all have a great day!

i know that you did not ask me the question, but i will answer anyway (i tend to do that every now and then). they are both great songs..but i think i like Only the best (out of the two). especially when trent sings.."i just made you up to hurt myself...there is no you, there is only me." trent's lyrics have always sung to me.

It's basically a search engine whereby, if you sign up, every time you use it you raise money for your chosen charity - absolutely no cost to you or the charity. Struck me as a really good idea - I do a lot of searches on the net and if I'm going to be doing them anyway at least this way somebody else benefits x

I suppose it's anyone's guess as to why the TPC board is down. While doing my quick 'lurk at work' thing yesterday, I did notice some, shall we say, friction. But who knows...

It stinks, cuz I was just about to get all sentimental last night and make a post about the 1-yr anniversary and what it all means. Oh well.

Have a great day, everyone. This one's gonna be a doozy for me -- can't wait till the next few hours are over!

Oh, and Miffy... In light of the board situation, why don't we all put the song "Patience" in our heads? LOL

Posted by: Denise at January 12, 2006 07:23 AM

Anyhow--Maybe they are doing some board cleanup--or maybe we'll have a great surprise coming up shortly! :-)

Posted by: Diane/FRI13th at January 12, 2006 07:41 AM

Hi Dave and everyone..

Aw Denise, that sucks, that the sentimentality went out the window..
Wasn't really friction, more of not letting something alone.. and I'm throwing this out here for EVERYONE to see, I think we ALL need to sit back sometimes, and just SHUT UP, and leave it alone (whatever the issue at hand is) and quit going on and on, and dragging shit out.. my .02. We're all adults and don't need to have anybody tell us to stop already and let sleeping dogs lie.. have a great day all.
