Touche, Adrian!

I saw this today in some Seattle paper online by Adrian Ryan (adrian@thestranger.com), who opens his story about regrets with this line: "It is my tremendous joy to conclude this, The Stranger’s annual so-called “regrets issue, by once again informing the world that I never, ever, regret a God damn thing, thank you—and nothing on earth could possibly induce me to do otherwise."

He then goes on to explain:

"Moby regrets leaving his native country—outer space—so very much that he plans to return to it in 2010 on the world’s first commercial outer-space flight. (He’s already bought the ticket.) Dave Navarro is planning to meet up with him in space shortly thereafter—he’s booked passage on the world’s second commercial outer-space flight—possibly to take advantage of outer space’s liberal stance on same-sex marriage. But don’t quote me on that."

Now, I know when I don't want to be quoted, I don't write a story under my own name in a newspaper, but that's just me. I mean, isn't the mere publishing of your own story in itself, make it quotable? Anyway, I am once again amazed by the whole gay thing. You make out with a couple of guys and all of a sudden you're gay! Hahahahahaha! Whatever. Can't blame the guy. I'm sure it's easier to write about people and hide behind a computer in Seattle than it is to do something creative and new and artistic that would open yourself up to criticism. Plus, he gets to call himself a "writer" and ask his friends, "Hey! You check out my work in the new Stranger? It's Pulitzer time, bitches!!!"

Normally, I wouldn't even comment on this story, but I do have the week off so fuck it! Unfortunately, I have to cut it short as I have a big day ahead of me: Gym, manicure and pedicure, a facial, the sale at Barney's, I have to pick up a new squeegee for the shower and I'm redoing the kitchen and bathroom so I have to go look at lighting fixtures. Plus, my stylist is coming up here to discuss next season's fashion trends. I just wish I knew where the whole "gay" thing comes from.

Just Checkin In

It's been a few days since last I checked in. Not a whole hell of a lot going on here. Our Christmas was great - very low key and mellow. On Christmas Eve, Carmen and I went to see King Kong which we both enjoyed quite a bit. Gregg and I were discussing the film on SRL last night and I was surprised to hear how many people felt that it was "the same old story and too much CGI". I dunno, for me, that's kind of what I expected when I purchased my ticket. A lot of CGI and for Kong to fall in love with the actress and lose at the end. If you are expecting something else, don't go. There is no twist, he doesn't win in this one and it is very King Long. Three hours. The next day we went over to the family's house for a day of carbs, presents and catching up. After, we were to have our Lesbian Cook Off but one of them got sick, so we just had a few friends over, including Loop and his wife. Nice time. After, Carmen and I watched Walk The Line.

1. Also, will you be at NAMM pimping your Yamaha signature guitar?

Yes, you know I will.

2. Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld?

Curb. Cable allows it to get a little more extreme with the subject matter.

3. The Charvel you held up for the Dec. 15th post, did you have to buy it or was it given to you? WIll you play it live?

That was a gift from Carmen for Christmas. I will most definitely play it live!

4. When touring do you prefer bus or plane?

That depends on the distance. For the most part, anything to keep away from airports is preferred.

5. Dave, I heard that you are going to be a guest at the VH1 Decades Live show, for Heart, along with AIC...I was wondering if there's truth to the rumor and what kind of role you and the AIC guys will have in the show?

That is true, however I only know that I have accepted the invitation to participate. As for my role, that remains to be seen.

10 & SRL

Tonight: Spread Radio Live with guest host Bee Jellyfish. Show will air around 7:30pm PST.

1. Would you ever use a 7 string guitar to record some music on an album or do you prefer 6 strings?

Well, I am more of a six string guy. If I ever need that lower register in the studio, I usually use a baritone guitar or leave it up to Chaney to cover.

2. Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?

I prefer Wilder as Wonka, but Depp is much easier on the eyes.

3. What made you decide to appear on Gene's Firestarter track?

Hey man, when the God of Thunder calls in for a favor, you better jump! I was a huge KISS fan growing up and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to record with Gene. In fact, KISS was the first concert I ever went to.

4. A couple of weeks ago you said that you and Carmen had a Book of Mormon on the coffee table. How did you get it?

That was actually a joke about trying to get her to fall for the whole polygamy thing. We never had a Book of Mormon. It just made for good radio.

5. Is it true Chad Smith doesn't record his drum parts using a click track?

I have never seen him use one.

6. So Dave, are you a David Letterman or Jay Leno fan?

Letterman is funnier, Leno is friendlier... It kind of comes out even.

7. I was watching Iconoclast last night and you kept popping up in some of the footage. Were you just at the party or are you going to be on it?

Camp Freddy performed at the launch party for that show.

8. How did you go about developing your stage presence/persona?

I dunno, I guess it just kind of happened.

9. Hey Dave, what are your thoughts on the new INXS album?

To be honest, I haven't heard any of it. I did play with Marty Casey not too long ago and I can tell you that his stuff sounds awesome. I'll check out the INXS record.

10. I know you and Carmen both have been guests and listeners of the Howard Stern show in the past. Did either of you buy a Sirius receiver, or do you plan to?

No, we haven't done that yet. I'm sure we will, but part of what I loved about that show was listening to them push the limits of the FCC without crossing them. I suppose, to me, it was kind of the "bleeps" on the Osbournes. In a way, the "bleeps" became a character of their own.

SRL/XMAS/10

There is a slight chance that tonight's Spread Radio live will be preempted by a dinner with Carmen's director friend. More to come on that... Now it's all about the Christmas shopping! Three words: Valet Valet Valet!

1. Where do you keep all your gear in between shows and rehearsals?

We have a storage locker for all the gear, I assume it's all there.

2. Dave, since finding out that Carmen is a crafty person, does she buy you something for the holidays or does she make you something instead?

No, that EVH guitar I posted a couple of days ago is my Christmas present.

3. Thanks for the answers and I still wanna know your thoughts on plugged/unplugged versions of Just Because....

Honestly, they are two different animals. I like them both for different reasons. Electric for the power and acoustic for the focus on the melody.

4. Dave, during the first week of SRL you played a live version of Reptile for me w/ Bowie. It was great, and I have been looking for it ever since. Is that track on a CD or single?

I honestly don't know. That version was sent in by a listener.

5. What did you get Carmen for Christmas?

Hahahahahahaha. I aint telling!

6. How do you feel when fan's write to you for advice on recovery?

Well, I am honored and appreciate the trust. Usually the best I can do is read their letters and let them know what I did. Rehab/therapy/meetings. I might even suggest my book or Anthony's book as an outline for how bad it can get. Other than that, the work has to be done by them.

7. I believe to a caller on CFR or SRL, that you were planning on putting the Spread & Rhimorse stuff up in Store 13. Any timetable for this?

Damn! Thanx for reminding me. I should get to work on that. No, I have no timetable, but it shouldn't be THAT hard to get together.

8. Whaddya think of the "Nip/Tuck" finale?

I absolutely loved it. So dark, twisted... right up my alley. I thought it might be Quentin, but they threw me with his getting attacked. Yes, I fell for it.

9. Dave, on your left forearm next to the card suits I noticed a tattoo of yours that I've never seen before. What does it say?

ADDICT

10. According to Carmen, our main man Dave cried at the end of Cheaper By the Dozen 2... Dave, tell us the truth, is it really that touching of a movie?

Naaaaahhhhhhhh! I didn't cry! It was just... allergies. Yeah, allergies.

Well, Here's Five

1. Why no "Three Days" on the Strays tour?

Actually, we played Three Days every night on that tour.

2. Why did Chad split on Spread?

Well, by the time I got around to getting that project finished, Chad was needed back in the Chili Peppers, not to mention, I was going through some tough times with the drugs. I don't think of it as splitting as much as I think of him just doing the best thing for him at the time. I was pretty unreasonable back then.

3. Your legacy: Do you ever think about how you'll be remembered?

Not really. To be honest, I just keep moving forward and do the things that I find to be fun, interesting or challenging. I'm not in this life to be remembered, I'm in it to enjoy it and to live it to the fullest.

4. I think TPC album is coming in May... When is the TPC website launching? First single release?

Well, Steve has been working hard on the TPC website and I must say it's looking incredible. As for it's launch, that's hard for me to say, it's more of a Steve question. I really won't have any more information about the single release until the New Year, as the business is pretty shut down for the holidays. I know that we do plan on releasing a single via the Internet before the "radio" release through Capitol.

5. Have you embarked on the dreaded Christmas Shopping yet?

Ummmmm, no. We are gonna try to hit it tomorrow, all in one shot.

SRL Tuesday 7:30-9:30pm PST

I usually don't reprint items I find in the news about myself or my wife, but this is just too precious:

ELECTRA'S SCORPION DIES

Former BAYWATCH beauty CARMEN ELECTRA is mourning the death of her pet scorpion.
In the summer (05), the sexy actress found the stinger crawling around her Hollywood home and decided to keep it - much to the dismay of her rocker husband DAVE NAVARRO.
She says, "He walked toward the light. He died.
"I took very good care of my scorpion, because I felt bad (for him). I didn't want to kill him and I didn't want to just let him back out, so I fed him grasshoppers and I went to a pet store to find out what to do.
"I guess they have a short life span. I don't know."

1. Do you have any pictures of you with Trent?

No, I don't.

2. Are you going to start the Sunday 10 again?

For sure, it's just that there are rarely 10 questions to answer.

3. What's the reason for taking Camp Freddy Radio to Podcast only and not posting in your spread radio player? Is it a time issue, music rights issue or just because? I kinda miss the music.

Well, there are a couple of reasons. Now that we have Spread Radio Live, there is plenty of music at all times. Also, we have learned that it is somewhat confusing to have Spread Radio and Spread Radio Live, so we are working on just having a banner to SRL there instead of the player. The reason there is no music in the CFR Podcasts is because legally we cannot rebroadcast music without paying a fee. On SRL, Live 365 helps by making sure that all of the appropriate fees and licensing gets taken care of.

4. So Dave, when you are talking to Marilyn Manson...what do you call him?!?

Manson.

5. What are your plans for Christmas?

We are gonna spend the day with my family and then have our usual "Friends of the Friendless" Christmas dinner at our house with our friends that have nothing to do or no local family. We have these two lesbian friends who can cook up a storm and we watch terrible movies, exchange gifts and play board games. I'll end up doing a Christmas SRL with whoever is here, I am sure.

Goin Live! 2:30pm-4:30pm PST (SRL)

The holidays are officially upon us and my wife gets home. We have to do all of our shopping like a.s.a.p. More than likely in one day. All the offices are closed and it feels good to wake up at 1:00pm and really have nothing to do. I'm sure that by 2:30pm I'll be goin out of my mind! The new Podcast of last Saturday's CFR is now up over on the right. Our Podcasts will from now on be located there. As always, you can use the link, use the XML feed or subscribe directly from iTunes to download it. I'm thinking I am going to go live in a little while. Watch for any bulletins or the "On Air" icon in the spreadradiolive AIM window. That'll give me two hours of something to do that's for sure!

Fuck LOST!

You know I'm just starting to get over it! Another repeat! Like three weeks ago they suck you in with Walt on the computer: Dad?_ Then what? Repeats? First of all, Walt wouldn't know how to operate DOS to begin with. Anyway, on to other stuff. Last night we had another SRL with Gregg Simon. Tonight I'll be back at the scheduled time, 7:30pm PST, just without my co-host as he is in New York with Carmen. Also, don't forget on Saturday night's Camp Freddy Radio, our special guest is Forbidden. She says she is gonna kick my ass on the air. I'm somehow OK with that. Back in the elementary schoolyard days, that's how we used to show each other love. So it's all good with me. Gonna be a long weekend around here. Lots of Netflix to catch up on. Holiday shopping... Radio to do... the list goes on and on. Bee Jellyfish has promised to come over and do a show with me.

Speaking of Bee, the Suicide Girls Radio Podcast that I was guest on is now available. The Podcast can be accessed here by clicking on the XML link, or by subscribing directly from the Suicide Girls website.

Premiere/Nip/Tuck

(©2005 Debbie Van Story) The premiere last night was a lot of fun. Carmen is fantastic in Cheaper By The Dozen 2. Best I have ever seen of her, plus it was so rad to see her working with Eugene Levy and Steve Martin. After the film, we went to a little after party for a while where I got to hang with Eugene for a while. He was such an amazingly cool guy and spoke so highly of my wife. Pretty rad. Today, Greg and I are going live so I will post the show time and send a bulletin of course. He and Carmen are going to New York tomorrow so we have decided to do the show tonight instead of Thursday.

Also, at the party I got a chance to hang with Brittany Snow, from Nip/Tuck. We talked about the show for a while. It was nice to meet someone as excited about their work as I am about it. At one point she says, "I know who The Carver is, you're gonna freak!" and I responded by putting my fingers in my ears and repeating, "I'm not listening, I'm not listening, I can't hear you... La la la..." All I know is that I better get some answers on Kimber next week. It was like three weeks ago that she was left at the hands of The Carver. Season finale next week!

A Good Time Was Had By All

SGR was a lot of fun last night! I really enjoyed going in the studio that late at night. It felt like a different vibe. The girls were very cool and mellow. Poor Missy was sick so she cut out early, but Bee and I held it down solid style. She is gonna let me know when the Podcast is up, so as soon as I know, you will know. Also, I got that webcam in last night, so if anyone managed to get any screen shots, I'd love it if you let me know and I will post one to go along with this update. (Thanx Chase!)

Also, here is the latest on Spread Radio Live. If you access the station during nonscheduled live hours, you can hear past archived shows. Right now, there is only one show up as this will take some time. Soon enough there will be 24 hours of streaming content and new shows with different hosts... Steve Isaacs Messy Stench, etc., but for now I think there are two hours from yesterday looping over and over. I'm sure I'll break in today for another couple of live hours to archive and make available.

SRL/SGR

Tonight am I doing the Suicide Girls Radio at 12:00am-2:am PST. They Podcast their show so if it's too late for you, there will be a link posted directing you to where you can hear it at another time. I will bring the webcam in tonight and you can access the stream right here, but of course, only during those hours. I'll also be doing another Spread Radio Live today around noon I'm thinking. I will send a bulletin when that happens and you can always look for the "On Air" icon in the SpreadRadioLive window on AIM.

Today/Tonight

(Photo: Todd Newman) Good morning. Today I am working as a co-emcee at the Band Together Music and Gaming Festival thrown by the Willis family and Playstation to raise money for Save The Children and Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity. For more information on the event, you can check out this article. The event goes until 6:00pm so I will not be heading into Camp Freddy Radio tonight. Instead, Billy and Matt will be bringing you their fine brand of entertainment. I'm sure Loop will open up the chat, but our usual webcast will be down tonight. I will, however, be bringing the camera in to Indie tomorrow night for the Suicide Girls Radio show at 12:00am, as I have been given the green light from the show's host, Bee Jellyfish.

After CFR, around 8:00pm, I will be firing up SRL from my house for a couple of hours. I know I originally canceled the Saturday night broadcasts, but what the hell. I'll be home listening to music and screwing around online anyway. This is rad though: You may have seen the little disclaimer I have on my MySpace page that says, "Here is the thing. I love all the mail and comments I get, but I can't possibly answer and post each and every one. Please know that I DO read all of them and I appreciate your time and energy." Well, even with that, I still get tons of comments like this... "thanx for not accepting my comments I REALLY APPRECIATE IT FUCKIN IDIOT" Hahahahahaahhahahaha! Awesome! Oh well, I guess you can't make everybody happy.

SRL New Show Times

(Photo: Todd Newman) OK. So now with Gregg Simon on board, we have decided to readjust the Spread Radio Live schedule and up the set times to twice a week. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm-9:30pm PST. Now, you know I can't help myself and I will more than likely do as many spontaneous shows as possible with the same old manner of notification (posts and bulletins) as before, but now you can count on two days for sure no matter what. I have also begun the task of archiving the broadcasts and plan to make those shows available for listeners residing in other time zones and can't catch us. Still getting this thing off the ground but you all have been such a huge part of it that I must share every last detail. We will be on again tomorrow night. BTW: I have a special call in Top 8 guest. Gregg will be with Carmen at the Carson Daly show so he might be late, but he will show up at some point. He always has funny stories about being backstage at those shows and events they go to.

Lost. Repeat! ANTM. Nicole. Didn't see that one coming but I must admit, it was more than a little heart warming.
Carmen: Are you crying?
Dave: What? No! No, not at all. I think it's just a little dusty in here. Must've gotten something in my eye...
Nip/Tuck. Well, I have to say that I was pretty upset that we didn't get any Carver/Kimber news, but they kind of made up for it with the Carver MySpace page at the end. That was awesome. Still, with the whole plane crash thing, I kinda felt like I wasn't watching my "all kinds of fucked up" show and instead got rerouted into a rerun of E.R.

This just in: This Sunday, December 11th, I will be a guest on Suicide Girls Radio on Indie 103.1FM from 12:00am-2:00am with hosts Missy and Bee. They Podcast the show but I might try and sneak my webcam in there...

SRL Wednesday

Tonight is an all new Spread Radio Live from my house around 7:30pm PST. I'll post and send a bulletin when it goes live exactly, but my trusty co-host Greg will be back. I have already had a bunch of questions regarding the Hello Kitty guitar. Honestly, I don't know where it came from. Carmen just brought it home from Vegas. I think if you do a simple search, it should be relatively easy to find. I plan to swap pickups and hardware and the neck and make it a fully functioning live guitar. Don't tell the Panic guys though, I'll have to gently explain to them how it's so light and happy that it's actually dark and twisted. Also, while I'm at it, I might as well explain how all our liner notes will be hand written by a little girl on unicorn stationary with every "i" and lower case "j" dotted with little hand drawn hearts.

Speaking of guitars, Daniel, a SRL listener sent in this picture of his new PRS signature modeled by his lovely girlfriend Jamie. I must say, that guitar has never looked better. I know I did some ads for PRS when they made this custom "Navarro" model, but they'll certainly sell a lot more of them if they went with this. In fact, I may just have to go out and purchase one myself. I look at this picture and I ask myself, "How did he do it? Hot girl, great guitar..." I mean I have been at this gig for over 20 years. Then it came to me... "Oh, he's a MAC user!" Yes, it's just that simple. By the way, for everyone who was online for yesterday's afternoon broadcast, we have solved the buffering issue. Of course there may still be temporary drop outs here and there, but yesterday was quite a problem. After running a series of diagnostic tests (Damn! I finally got to say that in a sentence and have it be true.) we have been able to zero in on the problem and correct it. We ended up moving the show to a different server within the Live 365 world. They have been a tremendous help and I appreciate their support along with the computer wizardry of our very own Loop. I did run the diagnostic tests, that part is true, but the reading of the results and the correcting... well, that I cannot take credit for.

P.S. Here is the code for the Spread Radio Live Banner if you wish to put it on your own site:

Camp Freddy at The Palms

"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas... Except Camp Freddy." We were in and out of there in a day. We started off with a flight to Vegas at 11:30am, got to soundcheck at The Palms around 2:00pm, then had some down time from 6:30-8:30pm. Cantrell and I got our naps on and then woke up to a pot of coffee, showers then down to the party where Carmen already was, hosting the evening with Johnny Fava. Great set tonight with the highlight being Round and Round with Warren DeMartini of Ratt on guitar and Mark McGrath on vocals. Warren and I actually figured out the harmony solo parts and it was pretty rad. Scott Weiland did Crackerman and Roadhouse Blues, Duff did New Rose, Ty Taylor did Whole Lotta Love and even Sweet Suzie McNiel came up and did Feel Like Makin Love. It was great to see those two again and they killed it. Steve Jones on Pretty Vacant is always amazing... A Sex Pistols song with a Sex Pistol is a pretty undeniable experience. Jerry sang Alice Cooper's 18 and played on Cat Scratch and Man in the Box. Duffy played on Makin Love and Ziggy. Of course, as with all Camp Freddy shows, everyone came out for Dog, including Carmen who gyrated onstage alongside Johnny Fava. Earlier in the set, Johnny did a hilarious version of Paranoid. If you have ever seen him, you know what I mean.

(Thanx to Princessabby for the pictures!) After the show, we literally got off stage, packed our shit and got on the plane back to LA. Carmen stayed on for the Billboard thing on Tuesday with Greg, so my trusty SRL co-host is out for a few days. I plan on resuming the radio show tomorrow as I have received five brand new unopened Netflix and I am just wasted from the day. What else? I think that's it. I'm burnt. I saw a few Community members in the audience, but I never got a chance to say hi, so if you are reading this... "Hi."

Last night's Camp Freddy Radio is loaded on the Spread Radio and the new Podcast is now available. The Podcast can be accessed here by clicking on the XML link, or by subscribing directly from iTunes.

I fixed the link, this is the correct Podcast. I'm headed out to Vegas now, have a great rest of the weekend!

Camp Freddy Radio-Indie 103.1FM, 6pm-8pm PST

Tonight an all new CFR. (6:00pm-8:00pm PST) No guests tonight, just the usual amazing show that Billy and I provide! Hahahahaha. The 6767 chat room will be open tonight and there will be a repeat stream and Podcast to follow.

Also, during those hours, you can check out the Camp Freddy Radio Webcast.

Spread Radio Live: Usually, from my house following Camp Freddy Radio - 9:30pm-12:00am PST, may not be in effect tonight as I have an early day of travel to Vegas tomorrow for the Camp Freddy show at the Palms Casino. If anything changes and I decide to say "fuck it" and do a couple of hours anyway, I'll send a bulletin around and post before what would be a spontaneous broadcast.

I'll be out of town for a couple of days so things are more than likely going to slow up here until Wednesday. Also, next Saturday, I'll be handling the co-emcee job at the Band Together Music and Gaming Festival, so I will not be in the CFR studio with Billy and the boys. It's all good though, I'll make it up to you the following week, the 17th.

The Return Of Greg

Last night's Spread Radio Live was a lot of fun. Great music, great chat, great phones... It appears that my co-host, Greg, was a huge hit. He will be back tonight for more ridiculousness. I have received a lot of e-mail full of encouraging words and I thank you for it. I have also received one letter that simply said, "Less chatter, more music!" As I have said many times on the show, "Fuck it! It's my show! If you don't like what we do, sign off and go listen to your Ludacris records!" Hahahahahahaha. Honestly, I have no idea what that means, but it somehow makes sense to me. I don't know why those are the only two options in my head, but just go with me here... Today I have a recording session with Marty Casey. We are doing that acoustic version of Trees. I start up with him at 4:00pm so I have no idea what time the show will start tonight. Hopefully by 8:00pm PST. No later. The good news is that Martyn is working at the same studio, so I'll be able to hang with him as well. A win/win I suppose one could say.
