10 & SRL

Tonight: Spread Radio Live with guest host Bee Jellyfish. Show will air around 7:30pm PST.

1. Would you ever use a 7 string guitar to record some music on an album or do you prefer 6 strings?

Well, I am more of a six string guy. If I ever need that lower register in the studio, I usually use a baritone guitar or leave it up to Chaney to cover.

2. Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?

I prefer Wilder as Wonka, but Depp is much easier on the eyes.

3. What made you decide to appear on Gene's Firestarter track?

Hey man, when the God of Thunder calls in for a favor, you better jump! I was a huge KISS fan growing up and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to record with Gene. In fact, KISS was the first concert I ever went to.

4. A couple of weeks ago you said that you and Carmen had a Book of Mormon on the coffee table. How did you get it?

That was actually a joke about trying to get her to fall for the whole polygamy thing. We never had a Book of Mormon. It just made for good radio.

5. Is it true Chad Smith doesn't record his drum parts using a click track?

I have never seen him use one.

6. So Dave, are you a David Letterman or Jay Leno fan?

Letterman is funnier, Leno is friendlier... It kind of comes out even.

7. I was watching Iconoclast last night and you kept popping up in some of the footage. Were you just at the party or are you going to be on it?

Camp Freddy performed at the launch party for that show.

8. How did you go about developing your stage presence/persona?

I dunno, I guess it just kind of happened.

9. Hey Dave, what are your thoughts on the new INXS album?

To be honest, I haven't heard any of it. I did play with Marty Casey not too long ago and I can tell you that his stuff sounds awesome. I'll check out the INXS record.

10. I know you and Carmen both have been guests and listeners of the Howard Stern show in the past. Did either of you buy a Sirius receiver, or do you plan to?

No, we haven't done that yet. I'm sure we will, but part of what I loved about that show was listening to them push the limits of the FCC without crossing them. I suppose, to me, it was kind of the "bleeps" on the Osbournes. In a way, the "bleeps" became a character of their own.

Comments

My turn to be first for a change! So I know you are a huge fan of Pink Floyd and especially The Wall. Are you more of a Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour person? I'm thinking the guitarist in you would tend to favour Gilmour but the the 'dark' side to you loves Waters lyrics. Did you enjoy the two Water-less Floyd albums? Do you like any of Water post-Floyd stuff?

And finally do you prefer the studio version of The Wall or the live version (Is There Anybody Out There?)...I'm assuming you do in fact have the live version.

Thanks man and Happy Festivus!

Dave! I didn't know KISS was the first concert you ever went too. That was my first also. Geez, I thought you looked familar!..heh j/k
It looks like you've been on a rampage answering questions. I'll toss one out, I think I may have asked before though.
If and when yu decide to quit smoking again-What plans do you think you'll take to try, patch, pills, the gum..etc? any of those..or a different plan from the last time you tried to quit...what plan?
Have a great holiday all!

Also, will you be at NAMM pimping your Yamaha signature guitar?

Thanks. Merry Christmas everyone!

Back in the days of Jane's, why didn't you include songs like Three Days or Then She Did on Nothing's Shocking if you had the songs written by then and had given them quite a bit of live play?

so lostboy, basically you lost the most important things that were electrical on your vacation?? i guess you will be joining me in purchasing a new computer?

i don't have an ipod...do not really see the point. yes, i get the zillion songs stored all in one place, and yes i see people here and there with the headphones stuck in their ears..but i really cannot just listen to music like that most days. i get my music the good old fashioned way..in my car (which i seem to live in) and at home.

so here is a question for you DAVE (albeit a silly one): do you own a ipod, and if so...what do you use yours the most for?

merry christmas, happy holidays to all! i hope everyone has a safe, wonderful holiday!

Dave,

I've noticed your affinity on SRL for spinnng tons of early Cult, The Banshees, Love and Rockets amongst others and was wondering how influential the goth movement was/is on you?

I've also noticed a certain amount of reverance in your tone when mentioning Duffy, Daniel Ash Siouxie etc, any insight?

Happy holidays,
Jay

Cool Dave!

A pleasure as always, have a lovely holidays!

Posted by: Spencer at December 23, 2005 10:51 PM

Yes Heather, it looks like I'm going shopping for a new computer. I think I'll wait til after New Years though. Maybe the crowds of shoppers will have gone home by then.

I'm not sure what I'll do about the iPod. It was always getting me in trouble. I tend to dance while listening to music.

I have to agree with you on the music in car thing. And it has to be the radio. I can NOT drive without radio. A couple of months ago a mechanic was working on my Explorer and he somehow messed my speakers up. No sound what so ever. It was like driving in a vacuum, in slow motion. Then I hit a speed bump really fast, and my radio started playing again. I don't know what that was all about ???

Not mechanically inclined,
LostBoy

Also, did you finally get to watch your TDDUP dvd?

Good morning family, some holiday suggestions if you want to get in the spirit, but don't have a lot of time..
1. Fast forward to end of Scrooged..Put a Little love in your heart..the last 15 minutes MAKE that movie!
2. Love Actually..either the Keira Knightley scene, or the part where the girl sings All I want for Christmas is YOU!
3. Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses, find it, or email me...dare you not to bob your head, or tap your feet!
4. Hug a pet!
5. Apologize to someone.

Cool... Looks like it's working finally...

I want to wish each and every one of you a very joyous, peaceful, blessed Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate. Whoever you are, if you're reading this, give yourself a BIG hug from me.

Dave, thanks so much for all of this. It blows my mind to think how that "cute new guitarist in RHCP" who I saw in a magazine years ago has evolved into the mastermind behind so many great projects, including this fascinating cyber-universe. I'm honored to be a tiny, little, insignificant part of it, and I look forward to whatever 2006 brings!

Time to start cooking... Have a great day, everyone!

Love,

Define irony. The oldest book says one must forgive in one's heart to be forgiven fully. I commend you Jez on coming forward. Although I can't help myself but to think of B-real's lyrics when recalling the incident. Be good to one another. And be nothing but thankful this new year. With Love,

Just so you know, members of the Mormon faith, or it's official name The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, are not polygamists nor does the church promote or condone that lifestyle.
Hope everyone has a great holiday. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks Dave for the site, hopefully next year will be just as good.

Good morning family! This is what I want to know..did any of you have to go back to work today? I spent 22 years in retail, and, I've been away from it for a while, doing that sucking at teaching thing..I just got to say, having the day off after Christmas is a definite perk. So, I just want to send a shout out to those in my family that are back in the trenches today, I love you brave soldiers! I will try to do something in your honor today, like, not bring anything back, or complain about the service anywhere.

Play the guitar, aww, I have one, too, I keep looking for the left handed guitar instructor, looking at the chord book in the mirror just isn't cutting it...ok, I'll stop, I love you guys..hey, if you are lucky enough to live in Southern Cali today, we are experiencing what I affectionately refer to as the "NAVARRO SKY"...overcast, looks like rain, a bit chilly, where was this weather YESTERDAY?

Hey now...

Jezzi-I had to work Christmas, I thought it would be a nice thing to do for staff seeing I usually do my celebrating Christmas Eve and in Christmas Morning. (I work 2nd shift) Try running a 40 bed rehab Christmas night by yourself! It was so challenging I stayed an hour late and finished up my documentation after two hours of dedication the next day. As you know Im in recovery so this is service for me, but Ill tell you Christmas "shocked my brain" with stress.

Also-is your guitar electric, although tougher to find they design guitars for leftys. Also you need to reverse the strings on your guitar. Ask Dave or someone else, but something seems weird that no one can teach you..and the mirror on the "chord book" thing? Anyway...to your question I worked Christmas.

Also to DAVE and THOSE WITH PHYSICAL PAIN;

I got this magnetic bracelet by Q-Ray that is really helping my pain. Dave-are you familiar with these things, apparently they help my bodys natural balance or Che. (Youd be familiar with this if youve ever tried Tai Chi.)resulting in promoting health and minimizing aches. Its helpful for anyone. Its f'n incredible and I was skeptic when I opened the gift/I dont wear jewelry. Anyway, I was in a terrible car accident, and would wake up with back trouble and be stiff and achey all throughout the day. The bracelet is like Percocet man! No, but it helps a lot. These things are incredible and I wanted to share and help someone discover what I did.

That last post was from me BOOTS-sorry my first sentence was for jezzi and I typed it in the name spot. I guess Im a little mind fucked, I better make sure that bracelets on.

Marivic...thank you, honey, tu es mi amiga bonita! it's funny, I have kids I am not allowed to speak Spanish to because of the law in California that says they need to learn in English, yet, when they get to high school, they are required to take a foreign language...ah, don't get me started.

My Christmas? Overall, it sucked this year. My first year hosting a dinner in the new house and after dinner there were several different arguements going on, and I spent half the day in tears. My 2 year old daughter totally got into the Santa thing though, and that was incredible. The night before, she not only left cookies and milk, but she traded Santa her baby bottles for the toys, because she's a "big girl" now. It was very brave of her.

Hope your holidays rocked everyone!!! Are we having a SRL show tonight?

So Dave, now that Christmas is over and we know what she got you, what'd you get for Carmen!?

Spreading the holiday cheer,

Dave, you and your pink Hello Kitty guitar saved my butt Christmas morning. Until you posted that picture, I had no idea who Hello Kitty was. My neighbors little girl made me a gift for Christmas. She showed up first thing in the morning, so excited with the gift she had made me she was trembling. She wouldn't even open her gift from me first. When I opened it, it was one of those giant solar powered calculators. It was covered in glitter, pink and purple "precious gems" and Hello Kitty stickers. I screamed "holy cow, a Hello Kitty calculator". I starting running around showing all my friends and calling people about my unique gift. She was so happy she forgot all about her gift. When they were finally leaving, she turns to her mom and says "see I told you he would like Hello Kitty". I am going to be the shit when I show up for work with it. My co-workers are going to be so jealous.

Still smiling,

Darlings, there's ALWAYS couture to be found! LOL

Morning/afternoon all,

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. Deena, sorry to hear about the arguments in your home. I know how it is. Shockingly and thankfully, there were no *major* family blowouts for us this year. That's all I can ever really ask for! I guess everyone is mellowing out in their old age... Maybe it was all the wine... who knows.

I missed most of the SRL stuff this weekend, but last night's show was fun. Thanks, Dave & Greg, for the lowdown on all the current movies. I hope to catch some of the "Carmen Electronica" hour tonight. I'd love to hear what she's into.

And I'm excited about this... At first, I wasn't sure if I could email songs from home, but I did a test run by sending something to my work addy, and it works. I just might be sending some tunage to SRL one of these days. Consider yourselves forewarned!

Cheers/love,
