Last Day of Recording

Hey, what's happening? Just got done watching ANTM and I was a little sad to see Jayla go I must say, although I think she is more of the "cute" sitcom on the WB type, rather than a full blown model. Now that all the drama is done, I am kinda over it. Nip/Tuck, however, is still going strong! Racism, serial mutilators, porn, surgery, gay doctor/patient threads... It's all good. Law & Order never disappoints. It's always a safe bet. Lost, however, I am starting to get concerned about. It is really as if they have no idea where it is all going. Writers of past episodes have disclosed that they have planted situations in the story that will never resolve and that the current writing team really doesn't know how to make this thing go for four or five seasons. If that is the plan, it's gonna tank, although I hope not cause as bad as it is getting, I am still wrapped up in it full of the hopes and dreams that this will conclude next season with some kind of unbelievable finale that will leave the world speechless and in awe. Somehow, I don't think that this will happen. Why am I going on about television? Well, because today, Steve and I actually spent our last day of recording in the studio before the mix. Naturally, I have taken a more invested interest in my shows. The shit sounds awesome! I have been playing some songs every once in a while on Spread Radio Live and your feedback has been really supportive. Thanx for all the positivity.

Speaking of SRL, it's been a lot of fun and I am working on ways in which to improve upon it. I love the interactive thing we have going with the IM windows and the requests, but as I said on tonight's show, it is hard for me to get to everything so please bare with me. I have been doing a show a day for a while and I will try to keep that vibe alive as long as I can. Some days will be a lot of talk, some days will be a lot of music with not much talk, some days will be guests and meaningless chatter, but it will always be spontaneous and free.

P.S. The new Rokbar site has finally been launched. Loop did an amazing job. Check it out!

SRL

OK. The TDDUP release news is in the news section. I didn't put it here as it would have been a little too much. Plus, you kinda get the whole thing here on 6767TV for free anyway. I am more than likely gonna do another SRL show today at some point. It's 2:30pm as I write this, so I'm thinking around 3:30pm. What else? Nothing much. The year is winding down for me. Just have that Camp Freddy show in December. I'll be on soon enough. Oh yeah... Saturday, December 17th on Camp Freddy Radio: ForBiddeN will be in the studio. A webcast you won't want to miss.

Post Intake

Yesterday was really a lot of fun. Great Thanksgiving celebrations at both my Dad's house and at home. I definitely worked out my carb intake for the rest of the year. Nothing that a good five miles won't fix I suppose. Now, all I have to do is face the leftovers. Sitting in there, eyeing me... Speaking seven different languages... Mixing lies with the truth... Kind of like the devil! I'm just about to go hit the gym.

Last night Billy, Johnny and I did a two hour Spread Radio Live from the house. We had a blast. Music, talk, acoustic performances, laughter... We were just being idiots. It was probably our best show yet. Don't forget that tomorrow night at 9:30pm-12:00am PST, I will be doing my post CFR here on SRL. Speaking of CFR, it should be a great show tomorrow night. We have Aimee from The Start coming in along with, I believe, Daryl Hannah! I'm not holding my breath though, that sounds to good to be true. Donovan has made the plans so I am just going with the flow. If she does come, I will look at it as a Holiday Miracle! OK. Now to go undo last night.

Spread Radio Live: Today at some point. I will let you know when. I'm thinking in the afternoon. I'll also try to get the chat open.

P.S. Someone sent in a sweeper that was totally rad using the song "Everything" as background music. I kind of lost it. When I say "kind of", I mean "for sure". If the person responsible for it is reading this, will you please resend it to me? Cheers!

Happy Thanksgiving!

(Photo: ©2005 Debbie Van Story) Happy Thanksgiving! Today we spend our family dinner celebration over at my Dad and Stepmother's house with our extended family, including Johnny who appeared on CFR last week. As I said on SRL yesterday, I plan to go to town with the food. No turkey! I eat all that protein based crap daily anyway. I'm talking about stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy and pie! That's about it. All carbs and sugar today. As for giving thanks, I have a lot to be grateful for. My wife, my health, a new record, my family, my friends, one month shy of 4 years off the drugs... And of course, you guys! Thank you all for making this digital place such a special part of my life.

After, we do our family's thing, Carmen and I like to do our own, "Friends of the Friendless" party up at our place. We have these two lesbian friends who are incredible cooks and they will be here cooking up a storm while Carm and I are over at Dad's. We then have our friends who have no plans today, come over and eat until they cannot move. I will be among those who cannot move. We then throw in some classic terrible movies like Glitter, Showgirls or A Night in Heaven and fade into a sugar and carbohydrate induced coma. All of our skins kind of melt off and fuse together to create some kind of massive single breathing organism that takes up the entire living room. You could even call it a science experiment.

Later in the evening I plan to fire up SRL. I am thinking around 8:00pm or 9:00pm. I will of course post to confirm.

Happy Anniversary!

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for the Happy Anniversary wishes! Two years today! Carmen and I will be spending it at the American Music Awards. We are presenting for favorite band, duo or group.

Spread Radio Live is going really strong! Thanx for all the sweepers and the support. Obviously, I will be off the air tonight but I should be up and live again tomorrow. Also, I am going to commit to at least one set show a week for now. Saturday Night 9:30pm-12:00am, following Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1. I'll more than likely up that to at least two set shows a week, but then again, whenever I have the time or find myself just screwing around on the computer, I'll fire it up spontaneous style. So keeping checking for show times and spur of the moment broadcasts. Yesterday, Courtney Love called in and played an acoustic song over the air! You never know what's going to happen on the show. Hours of talk, hours of music, incredible guests... All or none of the above!

CFR & SRL

What a night last night! First, we had a really great Camp Freddy Radio on Indie. The show will be loaded on the Spread Radio later in the week and a Podcast of the show will be up too. I'll let you know when that is. Billy and I had a huge show with author Jon Albert and cousin Johnny, Matt Sorum and his mom, Messy Stench and call ins from Patrik Mata and the Queen of Hollywood, Angelyne! Truly an amazing two hours. Later in the evening, I fired up Spread Radio Live for about three hours. I have received sweepers from some of you. Thank you so much! Keep them coming! Send your sweeper to: spreadradiolive@6767.com . "Hey, this is _____ from _____ and you are listening to Spread Radio Live." Something like that. Be creative. Thanx to Helena for the idea. We had listeners from all over the world last night. Hong Kong, Estonia, Ireland, Netherlands, Argentina, Switzerland, New Zealand, France, Australia... the world and elsewhere.

Today is our last day in the studio so I have to make this post brief. Running late as it is. I will try to let you know if Steve and I can do a couple of acoustic songs from there on SRL. I'll post at least an hour in advance. Thanx to all for your support.

Camp Freddy Radio-Indie 103.1FM, 6pm-8pm PST

All new CFR tonight. Jon Albert & John Navarro discuss Jon's new book, Wrecking Crew. Messy Stench in studio, KFK singer Patrik Mata calls in. Big show. Unfortunately, the chat will not be open tonight and there will be a delay on the repeat stream and Podcast, but they should be up in a couple of days.

Also, during those hours, you can check out the Camp Freddy Radio Webcast.

I am also considering a follow up post show broadcast on Spread Radio Live around 9:30pm PST. Tune in if you can.

Spread Radio Live Now!

So we launched Spread Radio Live last night. If you missed it, go to Spread Radio Live for future broadcasts. I will post when there is another show. Hopefully, I'll be doing a couple of 2 hour shows a week from my home. Eventually, the plan is to have set hours, but for now, since we are just dialing all of this in, the broadcasts will be spontaneous and vary in length. Last night we opened the chat room and Steve Isaacs came in. He and I debuted the majority of the new Panic Channel album to about 30 listeners. It was truly an amazing time. Carmen even came in and guest hosted with me.

Future shows will be more along the lines of great commercial free radio: killer playlists and guests, live performances and of course non-regulated talk. I'm sure we will slip some new material in there every once in a while. The next show will feature Steve Isaacs and we will be playing some more of the upcoming album as well as an acoustic performance or two. I will for sure, let you know in advance when that will be, but keep checking in here as I am sure I will not be able to wait until then. Thanx to Nicecast and live365 for the support and a huge thanx to Robert aka Loop!

I'm With The Band - Party at the Chateau

It was a grand evening last night at the re-release of the Pamela Des Barres book, I'm With The Band. I co-hosted the party along with Steve Jones, Rodney Bingenheimer, Michael Des Barres and John Taylor. Held in the penthouse at the Chateau Marmont, there was a flair of old school rock and roll royalty and legend in the air. It was nice for me because the last time I was in that particular suite, back in 1997 for a Jane's after party, I only got a chance to see the bathroom. After last night, I gotta say, they do a nice suite over there at the Chateau! Other attendees included Donovan and Kirsty Hume (Pictured above... That picture is kind of a reverse "Evolution of Man".), Paul Ruebens, Lucinda Williams and of course the beautiful Pamela.

After we got home, I fired up the TiVo and caught up on Nip/Tuck. Man! If they only really sold those Kimber Henry dolls. I'd get six of them and throw a little dinner party. OK. Maybe you didn't need to read that! In any event, today is all about the dentist, so my dinner party will have to wait. I'm also hoping for a little more from Lost tonight.

New CFR Stream & Podcast

Last night's Camp Freddy Radio was a lot of fun. We had our guest DJ Jezebel come down and spin some songs, make some calls and interject her own brand of professionalism into the show. She was more prepared than any of us ever are. Good going Jez! The show is loaded on the Spread Radio and the new Podcast is now available. The Podcast can be accessed here by clicking on the XML link, or by subscribing directly from iTunes.

Thanx to you guys and TK, I was able to get a hold of The Nymphs and played the song, Sad & Damned. News of this reached Inger Lorre, the singer, and I received a call from her manager. It seems that she is currently working on new material and she has agreed to come down to the show and premiere her new music on the show in a couple of weeks. Also, Patrick Mata, singer for Kommunity FK, called into the show and is sending me some music to play next week. All this got me thinking. (I know, it hurts my head when I do that.) There is so much great music from the late 80's early 90's, pre-grunge era, that I should to try to give it some love on the show. Maybe a weekly segment highlighting some of these awesome acts.

Next week on the show: Messy Stench

This week, I am co-hosting a party with Steve Jones, Rodney Bingenheimer and Michael Des Barres to celebrate the re-release of the Pamela Des Barres book, I'm With The Band. Pamela gave me the honor of writing the forward to the new printing. It's an incredible book about the rock scene from one woman's perspective at a time when rock history was in the making. Pick it up if you haven't yet.

Also, in the premier issue of Hot P!nk, Angelyne's magazine, there is an article about the visit we had that appears in my book from her point of view. It seems there were a few things in my side of the story that need to be corrected.

A. "How could he have possibly gotten the almighty fact about me sooo wrong? I never drink diet cola!"

B. "I believe that, had Dave written the book himself, I would have been represented much clearer, and pinker!"

C. "Scott never calls me honey!"

Angelyne, please accept my apology and this retraction regarding these inaccuracies. I love you girl! Thank you for making my book so much more special... and Pink, with your visit! I am looking forward to having you on the radio show sometime soon.

CFR Tomorrow

I'm looking for MP3s of The Nymphs and of Kommunity FK to play on Indie tomorrow. Anyone got any? Not on iTunes. Not on Limewire. Anyway, tomorrow's CFR will be guest hosted by our very own Jezebel. We will of course be webcasting the event.

1. "Panic Channel's music is very different from Jane's, which I think will alienate a large part of the Jane's fan base, just stylistically." Do you agree with this Dave?

I really can't say. We seem to have unintentionally alienated a large portion of them already just by doing this. I really love the music, but I agree that it is for sure a different sound. I hope we don't alienate anyone, but we'll see.

2. As you go through all those pics to choose your favorites, what's your criteria? Are you looking for the most flattering? The most disturbing/twisted? Overall composition? A combination of the above?

Honestly, I am looking for something that will speak to everyone. I was there so of course they all conjure memories for me, but the idea is to find the ones that speak out in a more general way. The images that can be relatable to all in different ways.

3. I'd like to know where you stand on the old Analogue/Digital debate?

I'm pretty comfortable in the digital world.

4. Dave, Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away....how do you plan on spending it?

We do a huge Navarro family thing in the afternoon at my Dad's house, then throw a late night soiree at our place with close friends.

5. Dave, I screwed around and missed the second run of CF/6767 tees at Shop13. Will there be more?

We should have some more stuff up in time for the holidays.

Visiting Day in the Studio

Yesterday was a really productive day in the studio. We got most of the work done on the song Listen, as well as a few touch ups I had to do on Left To Lose and Teahouse. FreAk, a member of our community, came out from France to see our show at the El Rey Theater which we ended up canceling. We asked him to come by the studio for a little hang as a consolation. We all had a great time and he is the coolest guy. After I did a couple of things on Listen, we broke bread, told stories and basically had a laugh. He brought some chocolate from France for dessert. Lemme tell you, those French know what they are doing when it comes to chocolate. Thanx FreAk! Today is all about finishing up Night One. After that, I should be done with the exception of going through everything and seeing if there is anything I can fix up or do better. Probably one more day after this. Man! What am I going to do with my time after we are done? Perhaps I'll focus my energies on going through all the booth photos for the installation. I have 37 great images pulled already and that's only after going through 2 months of a year's worth of moments. My plan is to pull everything I like from the year and then narrow it down to the top 25-50 shots.

1. So, in total, how many songs are going to be on the album?

As it stands, we have 14 songs that come out to about an hour. I'd personally like to see all of them on the record, but I am sure that one or two of them will end up on a B-Side or an import.

2. Are you doing any backup vocals on TPC album or is it all done by Steve?

I do one part in Loophole, but other than that, Steve is the guy at the mic. Live, I will be handling more of the back up parts.

3. Have you ever done the 'master cleanse' fast with the lemonade and maple syrup?

I tried to once. I lasted about 4 hours.

4. Dave, how would you qualify the sound of TPC?

I'm not sure exactly. We always say, "Power and Melody", but the band really does sound like nothing any of us have done before.

5. Was he the brother at Dave and Carmen's wedding?

No, he was a half brother of Carmen's that I never met. Thank you all for the well wishes.

Monday

Good morning. I am just working on this gallery show. I should have it all together by March for the LA show. I literally have hundreds of images to go through so it takes some time. I can really only handle a half hour at a time. A lot of memories there. A lot of old friends, some of who are no longer with us. Steve and Chris are in the studio today doing bass and vocals. I have a couple of appointments so I can't get in there until tomorrow. I only have three things left to work on. Left To Lose, Night One and Listen. We cut Night One and Listen last Friday at NRG with Josh and I am really into those songs. Probably because they are the newest and they will be finished within the week.

Indie Suicide

Last night's CFR was really fun. Brett Hellings came by and did a great version of Jumpin Jack Flash. Gilby, unfortunately, was unable to attend. Our apologies to Gilby for not being able to get down to the lobby on time. Next time dude. Missy and B from the Suicide Girls (pictured here) came by to promote the Suicide Girls show at the El Rey last night. They do a show on Indie Sunday nights from 12-2am. They have promised me a guest spot on one of their upcoming shows. You know I'll go do that anytime. Their show is also available for Podcast subscription at iTunes.

So the new TPC stuff is my favorite stuff so far. I should be all done with the recording by Wednesday. We can then focus on the mix and getting some shows together before the end of the year.

Sunday. Saw 2. Coffee, pizza, Curb, Bonaduce, Extras, Intervention, L&O:CI. A lot of viewing, very little thinking. I love it.

Studio Shift

I know it has been almost a week since my last post. We have been working long hours in the studio and it looks like we are pretty much finished with most of the songs. Today we are tracking two more from scratch in a different studio. I am personally looking forward to these as they are really all about the sonic journey. Apart from these two I can't think of much more that needs to be done. I am actually really happy about the fact that I had to take the summer off for the show, as I have been able to rethink some things and come back with a new perspective. As for a release date, I haven't really thought too much about that. I know we are shooting for the early part of the year 2006 but we haven't even handed in the latest version yet. I'll check in later and see if I can't get a cast going from the studio.

November

Last night was kind of fun. We went to this party in the Hollywood Hills and hung out with our friends, Perk, Riss, Strauss, Lisa Leverage and others. There was a full dungeon in the basement loaded with equipment and a S&M show. The show was highly interactive as party goers themselves got in on the action. Watching that go down was a highlight for sure. Great costumes all around... Perk was Jason, Riss was a hot school girl, Strauss was a black devil and Lisa was the St. Pauli Girl. One would think that with all of my computer obsessiveness, I would actually have a digital camera. I gotta get me one those things.

Today I am back in the studio to work on some music. I am happy it is November finally. I am looking forward to it feeling like winter around here.
