Halloween
Well, tonight is Halloween. As for costumes, Carmen is going to be a school girl and I decided on the grim reaper. We went to the costume store yesterday and it was so insanely crazy and busy in there, I had to make a decision... fast. The reaper was quick and easy so I went with that, although some of the suggestions we got on Saturday's CFR were amazing. The best part of my costume is the boots. 6 inch lifts. Who knows? Maybe they can become my everyday shoes as I am like 6 foot 3 in them.

Studio/CFR
Sorry it has been so long since my last post, I have been deep in the studio with The Panic Channel. I should be done with the majority of my work today. So far I have worked on such songs as Outsider, Bloody Mary, Loophole, She Won't Last, Said You'd Be, Left To Lose, Awake, Go On and Teahouse. I have been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd (Dark Side, Animals, Wish You Were Here) lately and I think some of that has rubbed off on the tracks. I suppose that is never a bad thing. I have been cutting some solos using a Strat and a pedal called a Deja Vibe which is now my favorite effect. Very old school sounding. Today is all about a song called Why Cry and next week we go in to cut a song called Listen. The more time we spend in there working, the less I hear a "single" but who cares? I am really just digging the process. The record is really starting to sound cohesive and finished. I'd give it another week or two before I feel "done", but that's not that far away. I like to get done and then listen for anything I think I can better and redo.
Billy will be out for Saturday's CFR, but Donovan and I will be there with Carmen. The chat will be open from 6pm-8pm PST. I am gonna try to do another videocast. Unfortunately I don't have a connection in the recording studio so the ability to cast from there is not an option. Anyway, the Saturday show should be fun as usual.

Empire Ballroom/Vegas
We had another killer Camp Freddy last night!
Ballroom Blitz: Donovan
20th Century Boy: Donovan
Love Removal Machine: A.J. Popoff, Billy Duffy
Jailbreak: A.J. Popoff, Billy Duffy
Brass In Pocket: Gina Gershon
God Save The Queen: Billy Morrison, Steve Jones
Queen Bitch: Gina Gershon, Billy Duffy
Cat Scratch Fever: Janie Lane
Man In The Box: Janie Lane
Whole Lotta Love: Pink
Crackerman: Scott Weiland
Roadhouse Blues: Scott Weiland, Billy Duffy
Suffragette City: Donovan, Steve Jones, Ronnie Vannucci (The Killers drummer)
I Wanna Be Your Dog: Everyone
1. Any more TV stuff in the works for you or things we could be on the look out for?
No, not really right now. The rest of this year is really about finishing the TPC album and setting up for 2006.
2. Are the proceeds for paperback going to Musicians Assistance Program, as the hardcover's did?
Yes, they are.
3. Seen any good movies from Netflix lately?
Yes. Dig! It's a documentary about The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols. It is an incredible "must see".
4. TPC is progressing, with the individuals laying down their parts separately. How do you avoid losing the vibe/groove that you get actually standing there playing the song with your comrades?
It certainly isn't ideal, but the bottom line is that it has to get done.
5. Do you prefer playing with Camp Freddy, or with The Panic Channel, and why?
It's two different animals. CF is all about fun and there is no emotional investment in the songs as we didn't write them. TPC is more creative and personal. I love both for different reasons.
6. If you could change one thing that has happened in your life what would it be?
I have been asked this a lot and the truth is that I wouldn't really change anything. It's all part of where I am now. Well, maybe I wish I hadn't started smoking, but that's about it.
7. Do you think TPC will be available before Christmas?
The record will not be out by then but I am hoping for a track or two to be uploaded.
8. Did you give JD any advice/insight, etc... from your RHCP days?
We definitely spoke about what it is like walking into something that has a huge past. The similarities of replacing an earlier member. I just said, some will love you, some will hate you, but it's all good and you need to just take opportunities when they come and not attach yourself to the opinions of others either way. Do it because you love it and that's it.
9. How is Janie doing? I watched Celebrity Fit Club and he was going through some rough stuff on there.
He is doing really well and is still on track with his training and new life.
10. Hi Dave are you ever going to do another solo album?
I'd like to, but first things first.

Vegas CF Show Tonight
I'm going back to Vegas for another Camp Freddy show tonight at the Empire Ballroom. Tonight's Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1 will be a rebroadcast. I hit the studio yesterday and finished the guitar tracks for Go On and She Won't Last. I'll be back tomorrow so if there are any Sunday 10's let me know.

Sundance/Camp Freddy Show
Last night Camp Freddy played for a Sundance Channel launch party of their new show, Iconoclasts. Here is the set list from the show:
Ballroom Blitz: Donovan
Feel Like Makin Love: Jordis Unga, Jerry Cantrell
Surrender: Jerry Cantrell, Billy Duffy
Love Removal Machine: Billy Morrison, Billy Duffy
Brass In Pocket: Macy Gray
Whole Lotta Love: Ty Taylor, Jerry Cantrell
Cat Scratch Fever: Mark McGrath, Jerry Cantrell
Pretty Vacant: Mark McGrath, Steve Jones
Suffragette City: Donovan, Steve Jones
Crackerman: Scott Weiland
Roadhouse Blues: Scott Weiland, Billy Duffy
I Wanna Be Your Dog: Everyone
Also, The Panic Channel show on Nov. 5th has been unfortunately cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. We are in the home stretch of finishing our record and we need to make use of our time to get this thing done. Or producer, Josh Abraham is only free for so long as well as his studio. We will reschedule the show and I will for sure let you know when that is. I will say that the tracks are coming out really great and Steve Isaacs has been doing a fantastic job, not only with his vocals and creativity, but with keeping the momentum alive. I went in the other day to do some guitars and I was blown away with the progress he has made.
Anyone see Lost last night? I did and I still can't figure out if anything actually happened. It was by far my least favorite episode. I was worried when they started introducing more characters. I think my concerns have been realized. "Lost" an hour of my life.

Out Takes
So yes, the Camp Freddy Show tomorrow is closed to the public. It's a private party for the Sundance Channel. What do you think the chances of Robert Redford showing up are? Also, I think the Vegas show is a closed event too. Oh well, there will always be more shows. I will fill you all in as to who was there, what we played and post an image or two. Today is another day in the studio with TPC for guitar overdubs. If there is a connection in the studio, I will more than likely do a live webcast from there this week. This time with some audio. I will of course, post when this will happen. It turns out that over 500 people tuned in to our last one from CFR. I finally got all the out take image scans from the DTTAH project and have been sifting through them for the art show. Damn! What a time that was. There are some pretty amazing shots that didn't make it into the book.

Webcast on 6767
Well, it appears that out first webcast was a success. For the first time, Billy and I streamed live video from Indie 103.1 during Camp Freddy Radio. This could become habit forming. We realized during the broadcast that we can actually get away with anything via the internet, even though we have to watch ourselves on air due to FCC regulations. We can't say anything, but I guess we can show anything.
Thanx to Robert and Vital Stream for making the technology possible. I would also like to thank Chase for the screenshots and the archived show that will appear on the Spread Radio as well as the next Podcast. I will post when they are available.

(Thanx to FreAk for the image.)
1. I'll be in LA next month and I'm wondering where a good place to play cards is.
I tend to favor the Hustler Casino in Gardena.
2. When you have the large blind...how much does that influence your decision to play a hand?
It depends on what I am holding. If everyone just calls, of course I take a look at the flop. If I have something like 2/7 off and there is a raiser, I just dump it. If I have a premium hand like JJ, QQ, KK, AA, AK and there is a raiser, I'll re-raise. Then again, every once in a while, if there are only a few callers and I have rags, I might re-raise and try to steal. This tells the table that even though I could see a free flop, I am so strong that I am re-raising. Naturally this can back fire so I make sure I have a sense of my opponents. They could be slow playing a monster. If the table just calls and I have a marginal hand like J10, I'll just check as a simple check on a hand like that can occasionally pay off. You never know when you are gonna see a JJ10 or a QKA flop, and if you can see it for free, it's the best way to do it. If I am in the small and the table folds/checks, I almost always complete the bet, depending on the hand and the blinds, to see a flop. Of course, these rules aren't "the way" as each table has it's own feel. I do watch out for when I get a free flop holding 9 10 suited and the flop is 9 J A. Even though I have paired up for free, there are two over cards and I should dump the 9's. What sucks is when the turn comes and it's a 9. Hey, it happens...
3. Where is CF playing in Vegas on the 22nd?
We are playing at The Empire Ballroom. I am not certain if it is open to the public or not. I'll have to look into it. If not, I am sure Billy and I can give some tickets away next Saturday on CFR.
4. Would you ever do an instrumental album?
I doubt it, unless it was for a film score or soundtrack. I like instrumental pieces of work, but a whole album would get boring for me. I like songs too much.
5. Given your history of substance abuse, do you feel it's appropriate to endorse hard liquor?
When I drink my life falls apart, but there are millions of people out there who can drink and don't destroy their lives. It just doesn't work for ME, so I choose to not drink. If others can do it responsibly, then good for them. Just my take on it.
6. Is it difficult working with musicians who use chemicals or do you try to find those that are safer to be around?
Not really anymore. For a while I had to stay away from the scene, but now it's just a reminder of how I don't want to live my life when I see it. Plus, it's not like people are shooting up around me... ever.
7. Do you have any polar bear material? If so what do you think.
What I have heard I have liked a lot. Eric really is a genius.
8. What's going on in the Studio with TPC?
Steve is in with Josh Abraham finishing up his vocals, lyrics and guitar parts. I am starting up again next week to hopefully close up my parts. The new recordings are sounding great. I think that all the time we have taken has really been worth it as we have been able to really become dialed in terms of what our sound is.
9. Can you clear up the Marilyn Manson blowjob part as well?
I was just trying to out-shock him. Guess what? I did! I never had any intention of following through. Had he called my bluff, he would have won the "who can shock who more" game. So as it stands, Navarro 1, Manson 0.
10. We were wondering, any chance of getting Dave Grohl to join ya on CFR?
He always has a standing invitation.

CFR Saturday
All new Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1 FM tonight from 6pm-8pm PST. The chat will be open during the broadcast.
1. How and when did you become such a film/TV buff?
I think that because of my work in the music world, I am more drawn to film as a form of entertainment as it fells like more of an escape. I am not focussed on the sound of the kick drum or the sound of the vocal effects when I am into a story on film. When I listen to music, I tend to dissect it in terms of how it was made. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to music, but I have found that playing is more of escape for me than listening or watching.
2. Please help settle a silly point of argument between my husband and me. Do you have a home gym, or go to a public one?
I go to a public gym as I have found that when I have home equipment, it simply collects dust cause I can "always do it later." At least if I go to a gym, I am motivated to get the hell out of there and get to it.
3. You mentioned some time ago that there will be a gallery display of the photographs taken during the photo booth era. Is this still the plan?
Yes, I am currently going through all of the images and getting releases from those in the shots for a gallery showing to coincide with the release of the paperback. Once again, all the proceeds from this will go to MusiCares/M.A.P. It's a process, but it will be rad. A lot of images to go through!
4. Did Jerome Dillon play drums for you on Leno when you did Rexall? Also, who were the male and female that played too?
Yes. Jerome did play with me for a minute. The others were a female bass player named Miiko and VR's Dave Kushner.
5. How the hell did you get sober?
Honestly, there are support groups out there that are really amazing. I would suggest to look into one of them as it is very difficult to do alone. I wasn't able to do it until I found a group of people who knew what it was like to walk in the same shoes as me.
6. I got an e-mail today from Step Up about the NYC Vanity Fair show, sadly, no CF. It's Alanis Morissette this year.
True. I was mistaken about that show. We are playing on the 19th for a Sundance event. Sorry about that.
7. How about last Saturday's CFR on Podcast?
Sorry about that, we missed last week, but tonight's should be available!
8. I was wondering how it felt for you to know that you were watching and helping one fellow artist make it, while watching others fall by the wayside?
Well, I had a great time helping those singers. I never had a vote so my participation had nothing to do with who stayed or who went home. As for the ones who "fell by the wayside", I figured that even if they lose, they got a lot of exposure from doing the show. I saw it as kind of a win/win. I'm sure that there are thousands out there that would have loved to at least perform on network television just to get their craft and love out there, regardless of the outcome.
9. I was just wondering how you deal with going on tour and being separated from your wife for such a long time and go without seeing her?
Seriously: Communication & Faith.
10. Do you feel you are a celebrity who plays guitar, or a guitarist who gets involved with lots of other shit?
I like a guitarist who gets involved with lots of other shit! Music is my first love and that is who I am, but if an opportunity comes to try something new, I am all for it. I really just dig life, new experiences, people and getting to know different sides of myself. I mean, it's all about having fun, right?

Pretty Vegas
I'm rolling out to Vegas for about four hours today to take part in a business meeting. I'll try to update when I get home. It is going to be odd to be in Vegas for only a few hours, but then again, my emotional and spiritual condition can only do so many hours in a given month. I will, however, try to get a few hands in before I come home. Next week we are going to launch some new bells and whistles here as promoted on the new banner. I think I have this streaming video thing locked and I plan to broadcast some in studio stuff as well as dive deeper into the world of Internet radio. Since nothing else is going on right now, I would be happy to answer any questions you may want to throw my way.

1. Will the TPC show Nov 5th be broadcast either live, Podcast, or replayed on the radio?
Good idea. I think that will all depend upon the quality of the recording, as well as the quality of our performance!
2. Dave, who would you rather be stuck in an elevator with: Anthony Kiedis or Trent Reznor?
Well, since I am already close to Anthony, I would have to say him. It would simply be a more comfortable situation.
3. Any idea if you'll be in Vegas Oct 19-23?
I believe there is a Camp Freddy show on the 22nd, but I will have to get confirmation.
4. Can you speak about the rumor that CFR will be on TWO nights a week, a Thursday broadcast?
I would love to speak about that rumor, but I haven't heard it until now. Looking into that as well.
5. Hey Dave, do you think you will ever put the "Spread" or "Rhimorse" CD's in Shop 13?
Yet another great idea from the 67 family. Lemme think about it.

More Radio
The 9/29 Pre-Show CFR live from the Sunset Strip broadcast is now up on the radio and is available for Podcast. The show is a mess because we were broadcasting from the Key Club and we couldn't hear each other. Either way, it's up there. An all new "proper" CFR will be up tonight after the live broadcast on Indie 103.1 FM from 6-8pm PST.
