Rockstar: INXS Finale
Rain, lightening and thunderstorms here in LA, an almost ominous final day of Rockstar: INXS. As I have quoted many times before and will quote many times again, "I love the rain, it washes memories off the sidewalks of life." (Woody Allen, Play It Again, Sam) I am on my way to tape the final episode of the show right now. By 11:00am PST, INXS will have a new lead singer and I will be deep into Season One of Lost. Sorry I was unable to launch my live video feed yesterday, but we did in fact create the new Spread Radio skin and the new shirts will be up later today. I'm looking forward to later on tonight as we have our wrap party and all of the season's contestants will be attending. It'll be great to catch up with my kids. Friday I am off to Las Vegas again for the Rokbar Vegas opening. I have decided to make it a 2 day excursion as I need the vacation. Poker, sleep, food, in-room movies, ink... general spiritual deprivation. Sorum will be there too. Between the two of us, we'll either run the town or go broke within a day. (I'm assuming the later.) Either way, now that I am wireless, just got a laptop, I may try to do a little Vegas live video feed. Who knows? If there is a good movie on pay-per-view, I might just do a pirate screening here via iSight and Vital Stream. 6:15am. There is my ride.

I love you DAVE!! I was just thinking the same thing, "I bet Dave is happy it's raining today, very dramatic timing". Not so great if you are my friend Wendybird, or my surrogate son Alec, and in line outside the studios, hope you kids brought umbrellas!!
RokBar VEGAS!!! oh yeah, I'm going in November!!!
Speaking of November, Dave, any word on my request? How about the 12th, Not right before Halloween, not the night of the show, not Thanksgiving, I think it might work, let me know, a girl's gotta plan!!!
It's been great seeing you in the role of mentor/mother bird, good luck to all the Rockers in their ventures!
and if Sorum is going to be kicking it with you, any chance the CFR auction winner of a weekend in Vegas with Sorum will have a chance to meet you too?
Beautiful pics of you and Carmen from last night!
love,
jezzi

Hello!
Yes, today is the last day. How are you handling it? I work with High Schools and I cry when I have to say goodbye to the seniors.
So, Dave, how soon until we can get TPC cds?
Always,
me

DAVE,
Thank you so much for SPREAD RADIO!!
This version of REXALL with the "Love the moment" lyrics is so f*cking great!!!
also, extra thanks for the picture of you and the lovely Jenny McCarthy - I simply love her...!
peace, love and all the good stuff from

ummm, I KNOW that's not Carmen, I meant THIS one

But I can see how stupid that must have looked, almost as stupid as me thinking that there was an Actual Rokbar opening in Vegas this weekend, instead of just taking over PURE nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights!!

Hi Dave and everyone,
So looking forward to the new panic channel site, the live video and all the other new goodies you're going to have at shop 13.
I can't help myself right now-but all this computer talk is like sex talk for computer geeks! ;-) (and yes, behind all the tattoos, even we are dorks)..heh
What movie did you have in mind for watching on Pay Per View?
Rockstar:INXS-I'm for sure going to be chewing off whatever nails I have left tonight.
Well-my coffee is ready! Yay!
Have a great or greta day everyone!
Posted by: Diane/FRI13th at September 20, 2005 06:59 AM
So we'll see it tonight and then you can tell us whuddup wid Jordis and what we can expect from her in teh near future. How many of the peeps other than Mr X can expect dramatic surges in their musical careers?
Posted by: ibmanson at September 20, 2005 07:10 AM
Dave, I know you're married and all but... would you please sleep with me? Thank you for your time in considering this "option". I could also settle for a Dave and Carmen lovefest. "settle" is an understatement.
Also, I love the spread radio skin. Nice and trippy.

Calling today to schedule our tat appts at H&H!!! Let me know who gets to do your ink! If they are worthy of having you as a customer then I know they'll do a good job for us!***

Live feed the ink! Still have the pic of you and the bats from last year.
Don’t forget to discuss CF and Step Up with Sorum.

Have a great time, you deserve it—you worked so hard this summer! Kick ass at the tables.

It amazes me how much time you spend writing on this site, and it further amazes me that I read all of it....
Wouldn't call myself a fan, but I have become an admirer of Carmen Electra's husband.... he seems like a pretty cool kat.....
If you ever want some serious down time, without flying half way across the world, I know this cool little motel on the Oregon coast..... could be just what you need, busy boy that you are....
Posted by: jai at September 20, 2005 08:14 AM
We are anxiously awaiting for the finale tonight. My husband and I have a bet going on who wins. If I win the bet, I get to fly away for the weekend sans husband and children. If he wins, he gets to spend $1000 on equipment for his "man den". Damn, I hope I am right!
I love the Woody Allen quote!
Dave, have you ever seen Dead Like Me? It was a series on show time that got the ax after two seasons, but it is a damn good show. We just netflixed both seasons - good stuff!
Posted by: Amanda at September 20, 2005 09:02 AM
Hey Dave! So what did you have in mind for the new ink? Guess we'll all have to wait n see. I love it when it rains on a day when something big is about to change, just adds so much more life to everything.
Any chance of a Rokbar NYC opening within the next year or so?
Have a great day everyone!
Peace!

I'm pretty happy that the show became a success and made it all the way through the series, without ever running dry on excitement or music. the best part of course was gettin to see you rip on that PRS guitar~

"I love the rain. Here is comes again." ~The Cult.
Dave, have you ever got together with Quentin Tarantino and talked movies?
Posted by: ylais at September 20, 2005 09:34 AM
Hurricane report from Florida for those of you not over this stuff already. Since I moved to my tent on the beach late last year I have been watching ol' Jeb Bush. What you see him doing for the national camaras now... evacuate this hospital, that nursing home, step one, step two is pretty much how he does things all the time from what I see and from what everybody says. Brownie did his FEMA thing pretty well last year with all those very large hurricanes because the governor of Florida knows his shit. At least about hurricanes. If you ever thought about moving to an Eastern Coastal area this might be something to keep in mind.

Dave and anyone with a wireless laptop,
May want to check out the Google Secure Wireless application. Will encrypt your data at non-secure internet hot spots you visit with your laptop. So no one lifts your data when transmitting wirelessly. Still in beta form though...

Marivic, I was an immigrant. :D My family moved there when I was young. I went to The British School. I loved Venezuela.
I hope it doesn't rain too much this season. The rain is nice there, it is warm. Our rain in the UK is so cold. I would stand out in the rain in Venezuela!

At any rate...I'm sure Vegas will take your mind off of it!

Hi all!
Thanks for the update Dave. I'm not as stoked about tonight's show as I would've been if Jordis or Suzie had made it to the final 3. It's not that I think they should take it, Jordis definitely not- she's way to good for them, but I wanted to see them make it till the end anyway. I think J.D. will/did get it but I like Marty best out of the three. I guess I'll find out soon enough eh? ;) Hope you're enjoying Lost. I really got into that show and am looking forward to the next season.
Re: the weather...my hubby is in Florida right now near Disney on business...I'm just praying the hurricane stears clear of him.
Thanks for the pic Jezzi. I didn't know Carmen went blonde. She's always beautiful but I prefer the not-so-platinum look on her.
Dave: Was that for a movie, just because, or is she fulfilling a fantasy for you?
Have a good night everyone!

Well Dave, another awesome summer passes by........
Went to the Rockstar:INXS tapings all summer and I'll be missing them.....
The Rockers were one and all truly great people and performers………..
You and Brooke were great hosts and INXS couldn't have hoped for more........ It's been a mix of jubilation and despair as the Rockers were eliminated on Black Wednesday..... Just a fabulous job done by you all. Thanks for helping to make my summer......... Have a killer time in Las Vegas........
One of the things you often told the Rockers is that they were 'The Real Deal'.
Well Dave, take a bow because you too are "THE REAL DEAL".........
Take Care Bud,
Vince

Hi!
So excited about tonight's show. I'll miss it when it's off the air, but that only means bigger and better things in the future for Dave, the rockers, and everyone.
Wireless, eh? That opens the door to so many possibilities. Something else to look forward to!
I will conclude by saying thanks, Dave, for everything. It's been quite a summer. You did an awesome job with RS INXS, you busted your sexy behind, and now you deserve a break. Enjoy Vegas and all of its decadent delights... just don't lose your shirt - unless you're onstage, of course. :)
Much love, admiration, and appreciation,

Well, now it's raining on me. I've lost electricity twice, in the last 25 minutes. Half of my street is still in the dark. And the thunderstorm is not on top of me yet. So I'm guessing, just about the time RS-INXS comes on, I'll be having a nice romantic candlelight evening with my two cats.

DN Family,
Out of respect of our West Coast members I will not mention who just became the new lead singer of INXS.
However, I have to say that the most deserving person won. INXS just performed a new song as an encore with their new lead singer. They also announced that the new CD comes out in November and the tour starts in January.
DAVE,
¿What did you think of INXS' choice?
Later,
Mike from NYC
Posted by: Mike from NYC at September 20, 2005 07:59 PM
thanks for holding off on the news Mike!
Posted by: Tara at September 20, 2005 08:02 PM
After seeing him perform with INXS, JD was the obvious choice. Even though Marty was my favorite of the two, it was the right choice for the band. And your offer to play guitar for Marty was awesome!! I hope we'll hear more from him soon. Thanks for the fun. I really enjoyed the show.

I'm really going to miss this show. I'm looking forward to the future of INXS, but I really got into the show and looked forward to each night. It was really exciting to watch them all grow week after week, and I am really hoping that at least a few of them release something in the future.
All good things must end.
The end is just the beginning.

oh yeah good luck inxs getting back in australia you know we take disrespect seriously.
Posted by: kat at September 20, 2005 08:17 PM
Well, I for one was rooting for Marty all the way through this, and knew he'd be in the final. Wasn't surprised INXS let Mig go; as I didn't think he fit the band...and I must say, seeing both Marty and JD perform WITH INXS tonight, I feel as though INXS did in fact chose the better frontman. Although I hope that Marty does do something professionally after this cause no matter, he still rox!
Dave, I hope you plan to take a much deserved vacation, ya're awesome and I hope to see a hell of alot more of you in the upcoming future!

Well I made it through the whole show, without losing electricity, AGAIN. And minimal interference from our local CBS weatherman, because you never know, IT MIGHT BE RAINING !!!
I don't want to spoil it for the people on the West Coast. So I'll just say, I can live with INXS's choice for new frontman. But, he wasn't my personal favorite.
Posted by: LostBoy at September 20, 2005 08:20 PM
i'm really disappointed in INXS' choice for a lead singer. For a band that wanted to move on and move into the future they certainly chose a singer who sounds so much like the dear departed Michael. it's too bad. I already lived through the Michael era and enjoyed many live INXS shows. I was so looking forward to their next step with a new singer...but if it's going to be the same old same sound...I mean even the original song sounded almost exactly like old INXS. I'll be skipping the tour this time around...but I'll be going to see the Rockstar rejects tour. My only hope is Marty will outsell the new INXS.
Posted by: XX at September 20, 2005 08:20 PM
Dave....nice, i was really hopen' that J.D. would win....he was the only one who looked like it meant so much to him...you can tell more about a person by what's in their eyes...then most anything else....i just don't think he's gonna screw it up on purpose;if at all.....it's nice to see someone want something so bad and get it.............. hey Dave...have a nice rest...you have worked hard...thankx for giving us a chance to see you.....ALWAYZ LOVEN' IT.......SHELLEE

Dave-
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed watching the show. And watching you play was awsome!!
I'll probably never get to see you live--so I guess seeing you on Tv is cool though. Oh wait-You'll be doing some "live" video feeds. Ok, still not the same..But still will do. ;)
Posted by: Diane/FRI13th at September 20, 2005 08:25 PM
sigh. While as a life long fan of INXS, I wanted the control and uh, newness, of marty, I rather suspected they'd go with JD, because vocally he's closer to Michael. My problem is that he is NOT Michael, and now they will just have to deal with the comparison factor. Me, I would have Suzie in the top 3, and then I would have gone with her or Marty. Then you can take a chance in a new direction, while still maintaining the core.
But I don't blame them for taking JD, and JD will do just fine with them. It disapoints me as a fan, perhaps, but then, I don't have to work with the man. So good luck to INXS, JD, and all the rockers. It was a great series with great music, and for that I thank you.

Yep- it was a good show...we'll see how things turn out. I would have chosen the *other* rocker, but perhaps he was too avant garde for the band.
I say good luck to the winner and the other talented rockers, hopefully this will boost them to even higher grounds :)

Dave, it's been really fun getting to know you (through the telly) these past couple month. You are a really smart guy. So much smarter and gutsier than INXS, whose loss is our gain. I would kill to see you rockin out with Marty!

Just ordered my shirts....thanks so much, it made my day....
As for who won "RockStar".....no comment....

I'm rooting for JD tonight.
Take it home JD
Posted by: S.E.4 at September 20, 2005 09:08 PM
Dave, I hope you seriously meant what you said about playing with Marty! That would be the coolest mother effing thing ever!!!
Don't fret Marty fans...INXS just isn't roit for Our Rock Star: Marty Casey.
They can play with JD and disappear into oblivion while Marty Casey becomes the next big thing. I see it in my crystal ball.
Posted by: Dave + Marty = ROCK! at September 20, 2005 09:10 PM
I think they made the right choice, actually. This may bug some people but I was REALLY glad it wasn't Mig (and his last song sealed the deal...ugh.) I'm sorry, I just don't think the guy was an artist, and I don't think INXS could have lived with themselves if they'd picked him... except maybe in Australia, where they're alot more popular and have more fans...hmmm. Hopefully for INXS, the Aussies see through nationality like INXS did, hell I was rooting for a Canadian! Peace

Why watch movies? You can just turn on cnn and watch another U.S. city be destroyed in front of our eyes live this weekend courtesy Mother Nature.

I see keeping my mouth shut, didn't help anyone on the West Coast. BAD, BAD, SPOILERS !!! You know who you are. But since you spilled... hee hee
Marty was my favorite, but not for INXS. Marty is looking to the future, INXS would have held him back. And I want the old Marty back, not the neutered version that was holding back, just to fit in.
I thought MiG was a perfect fit. But talent isn't enough when you're a "nice" guy. Apparently INXS needed someone with that "rock n' roll bad boy image".
JD is talented enough, but a bit of a drama queen. I hope JD's bad boy image, doesn't bite INXS on the ass. They're the ones that have to spend all that time with him in studios, airports, tour buses, etc.
And a final note;
I did get my friend in DC addicted to the show. The one that was checking out Dave. The country music fan. She called me at the start of the show, and stayed on the phone until the end. She was hysterical. Lots of screaming, lots of questions. The funny thing is, she has no idea who INXS are, or who Michael Hutchence was. She was a riot, she made the whole show for me.
Posted by: LostBoy at September 20, 2005 09:27 PM
I'll say it again, Marty & Dave would be a lethal combination. I'm glad he didn't win. He makes that band look OLD up there.
Posted by: riffraff at September 20, 2005 09:33 PM
I am sooooooooo disapointed. JD was my LAST choice of the final 6 rockers. Ty was my first, I cried when INXS said goodbye to him, then my next choice.. Jordis, and now Mig....
I do hope Marty & his Lovehammers take INXS up on the offer to open for them on their next tour, that alone would be enough for me to go to the show.

Hey, I'd like to apologize to the west coasters for um saying who won....i too forget bout the time difference as well. I humbly apologize and hope I can be forgiven :`(

Hey, don't get too broken up about spilling the beans about who won.
Everyone should know by now that people talk about the show here, so if they don't want to know, they should stay off the Internet until the show is over!
I'm glad J. D. won by the way. I had him picked ever since I heard the Westwood One mp3's and noticed how similar he sounded to Michael H.

Fox News is reporting, Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal died today at age 96. Didn't he have some kind of organization based in L.A.? Or am I mistaken?
Posted by: LostBoy at September 20, 2005 11:12 PM
Nice try for INXS to get younger people to buy records...well Marty was my choice to bad...but DAve you guys on a stage...that would be a riot!!!! Get Sweet Suzie involved and you guys will be sold out....that's real chemistry there!!!!
Posted by: red at September 20, 2005 11:16 PM
Dave you must record with Marty, His voice is amazing, and it would sell BIG TIME!!! I am disappointed with JD being the main guy now, it would have been good for INXS to try something different then someone who sounds like Micheal H. Oh well their loss.
But in a way this is the best thing for Marty. If he releases something, you bet your arse I'm gonna be in line to get my hands on his music.
Posted by: joseph at September 20, 2005 11:28 PM
JD was vocally fits the band the best. Not to sure if 12 months down the track they will still think that he was the right choice. I think his personality after a while might be a bit to 'bad boy' for INXS. But hey. Hopefully they are not just 1 CD wonders and they actually continue on with a similar sound as before. Only thing that may pull them unstuck, is if they try and do the same trick they did with Michael but this time with JD...
QUESTIONS:
Dave, who did you want to win?
If something happened to Steve I, who out of all the people in RS:INXS would you choose to replace him?
Posted by: Simon at September 20, 2005 11:36 PM
LOL!! J.D's my man!
Posted by: Shuedue at September 20, 2005 11:58 PM
JD did sound the best with the band, even though I don't like his attitude. Dave, you better get on a new reality show fast -a lot of us here are going to have WITHDRAWALS!

So much for buying INXS' next album. Now, had it been anyone but JD, I'd be cool with it. He just doesn't do it for me, so much so that I wouldn't even pirate it!
Dave: What's next?
Posted by: Mean Gene at September 21, 2005 07:14 AM
Dave, I love the new Spread Radio, cool pre-tno versions.. but i have to say that the ones on TNO were much better for the album

Wendybird and Alec...What a taping THAT must have been ,it sounds like you had an amazing time!

To the one that asked about Simon Wiesenthal, he and Elie Wiesel have been greatly responsible for TRYING to keep history from repeating itself, by stressing rememberance, responsibility, and restitution, RIP Simon..
ok, on to the important stuff...DAVE!!!, so, will you be spinning any tunes when you take over PURE this weekend, and can you at least give a girl a hint to the ink...is it going to be a Panic Channel symbol?
love,

Dave!
Oh, man! This past Saturday's broadcast of CFR is gone!
Are you going to get it back? Please tell me you just haven't loaded it yet! I didn't get a chance to listen to all of it yet! :(
And I was really getting into the whole "barrista/Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf" story.
That'll be awesome if you do a live feed from Vegas for CFR. Especially since I'll be home Saturday nite!!

I couldn't keep m eyes open last night, but managed to wake up in time to catch each performance, and the selection. So glad they got rid of Mig right at the start.
But I must say this. I have never, EVER, seen a larger group of professional, polite and truly appreciative group of artists in my life. All the rejection was certainly handled with grace from beginning to end (except Ty's brief moment of emotion, but we've already gone through that)
I was completely impressed with the show and its contestants. Koodos Dave and INXS for giving these deserving talents a place to shine and start their careers! I, speaking as a music lover, thank you for the opportunity to experience new musical endeavors by many new soon-to-be-famous people!! Hurry Up Jordis!!! Dang!!
Signed-

Hey Dave, I have heard rumours about a 'Best of Jane's Addiction' coming out. Any chance you could fill me in on whether this is true or not?
Also I've always wondered, what are your favourite Jane's songs?

Oh, I tried again and the new improved Spread Radio came up this time!
I'm happy now! :D

Hey Dave!!
JD was never one of my faves but seeing him perform with INXS last night I think that they made the right choice -- at least for now. I always like MiG, but he has been a little bit weak the last couple of weeks.
Just want to know if you had a secret favorite during the show -- now that it's over, do tell ;)
Hubby and I were thinking that the next band to search for a front man this should be Nirvana -- can you say Marty????
Take care, hope all is well -- R&R are calling your name.

Glad I'm not in the minority.....most people here are saying what I've already posted at TPC board.
INXS have played it real SAFE.....by hiring a guy who basically MIMICS their late singer.
JD sounds like an odd mix of Hutchence & ELVIS with a bit of Jim Morrison thrown in! I LOVED Hutch & HIS style, but this guy clearly isn't Hutch and there will be comparisons.
Hope they enjoy babysitting!
Instead of moving on musically.....INXS will be dealing with a fake 'bad boy' who *sounds* like their original singer. Hardly a novel approach for a band who wants to bring their music into a new era!
They obviously didn't think of their original fans....who would rather hear a new sounding singer with this own original approach....rather than deal with a poseur & Hutchence sound-a-like.
I've always contended JD would have told ANY band his same tale of his rock'n'roll 'dream'. I don't think he was such big INXS fan.....he simply wanted the gig....ANY gig with an established band.
Yes, I sure hope Dave does work with Maestro Marty......and with Sweet Suzie too!
take care,
itanja

I just finished watching rock star INXS i had to tivo it. Yeah JD won....... i told you. His performance last night was bad ass
Posted by: S.E.4 at September 21, 2005 10:18 AM
Dave,
I think you and INXS dissed Suzy. Badly. She should have been there on the last day, and she should have been given half the love that Mig got when he said goodbye. I think you feel guilty about it and so does the band, and could barely bring yourselves to look her in the eyes. They had no intention of bringing a female on board. It reminds me of the NFL policy to alway interview a black coach, regardless of the choice already made. She should be given an opportunity to open for the band along with Marty, but she was reduced to the shadows. For shame.
Posted by: Scott at September 21, 2005 10:29 AM
I would rather have Marty be in INXS. I was kinda of in shock. I thought it wouldve been him..But I guess JD is the way to go, he's kinda cocky if you ask me though..
