Camp Freddy: Key Club - 9/29/05

Sorry it has been a while since I have checked in. I am still recovering from my cold. Last night's Camp Freddy show was really amazing. Camp Freddy, BC Ethic, Indie 103.1 and Nine.com raised a lot of money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. When the numbers come in, I will let you know what was raised. Our guests included:

Annabella Lwin from Bow Wow Wow: I Want Candy
A. J. from Lit: Suffragette City
Rob Zombie and John 5: Thunderkiss, Sedated w/Billy Duffy
Terri Nunn: Metro, Feel Like Makin Love w/ Ty Taylor, Man in the Box w/Jerry Cantrell, Rex from Pantera
Cheri Curry from The Runaways: Cherry Bomb w/ Steve Jones
Brandon & Mikey from Incubus: Let's Go Crazy, Whole Lotta Love w/Vivian Campbell from Def Leppard
Mark McGrath: Cat Scratch Fever w/Jerry Cantrell, Pretty Vacant w/Steve Jones
Camp Freddy with Billy Duffy: Search and Destroy
Camp Freddy with Donovan: Ballroom Blitz, Surrender
Everyone: I Wanna Be Your Dog

The Camp Freddy cover band, Camp Teddy opened the show with a cover of Get It On. Matt, Billy and I helped out with backing vocals. It was a definite highlight for all of us. Great job boys!

Back To Work

Today I am headed back into the studio with the TPC guys to lay down some guitars on the record. Those guys have been hard at work putting together some slammin rhythm tracks and vocals. This is actually my favorite way to head in as most of their work is done and I get to add my parts, sit back and basically listen to a finished (unmixed) song. The Camp Freddy show (Sponsored by BC Ethic and Indie 103.1) is just around the corner. We will be broadcasting a live Camp Freddy Radio from 7pm-8pm direct from the venue. NINE.COM (Gaming Site) has offered to match whatever funds we raise for The American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief.

I had a great time in Vegas, although I am still recovering. Two nights of getting to sleep at 7:00am don't really do my spiritual and physical condition very well. My friend Greg and I played a lot of poker at the Palms Casino and we both did very well. For those of you who were able to catch my quick Webcast from my room, thank you for helping make that dream possible. I will try to cast again from the studio this week. Here is a quick Vegas run down:

Friday: Rokbar Night at Pure, Palms Casino Ghost Bar, Drais, Poker at The Palms
Saturday: Poker at the Palms, Dinner at NINE, Scores Grand Opening, Poker at the Palms
Sunday: Sore Throat

The chat is now open and will remain open until 8:00pm PST. Also, check here for the Webcast Test.

OK. I know that was fast, but I have to get ready for dinner. At least we now know it works! More to come!

This Is Only A Test

Today I am rolling out to Las Vegas to host a Rokbar night at the PURE Nightclub. Tomorrow night Matt Sorum is doing the same. I have decided to stay an extra night to get in some much needed rest & relaxation, do some gambling and generally wind down from the last few months. (I don't know how much winding down I'll get in Vegas. It's not like I'm going to Sedona.) This does mean that once again, I will be out for tomorrow night's CFR. As per usual, you can count on Billy to bring the heat on the show. Monday is all about getting back into the studio with The Panic Channel. Steve, Chris and Stephen have been hard at work for the past couple of weeks and it'll be great to reconnect with them and play some guitar. Also, we have the Camp Freddy show on the 29th, so next week with be over flowing with music and creativity. So far, our confirmed CF guests are Rob Zombie, Brandon Boyd, Mark McGrath, Terri Nunn, AJ Popoff, Annabella Lwin and Cherie from The Runaways. Of course our usual cast of CF regulars will be in the house, Duffy, Jonesy, Cantrell, John 5 as well as some newer faces, Vivian from Def Leppard and Mikey from Incubus.

Tech Report: This weekend I am also going to try and kick off my streaming web cast test from Las Vegas. Please be advised that this will only be a test to work out the bugs so I can bring you more compelling entertainment in the future from the studio and from Indie 103.1. This weekend, however, will more than likely be an hour long episode of what my hotel room looks like. Not much to look at, but I could use your feedback in terms of what is working and what isn't. I will post the link when I am ready to go live either tonight or tomorrow.

JD Wins Rockstar: INXS

Season One of Rockstar: INXS is officially over. I really did have an amazing time working on the show and I will certainly begin my grieving process today. There have been talks of a Season Two already but I have no idea if that will come to fruition or what the scope of that show would be. I can give my reaction to the whole thing now. I think that JD is a great choice for the job. His voice is suited for the INXS back catalogue, he is a dynamic performer and has the right combination of vulnerability and ego to make an excellent front man for the band. Marty is awesome and I meant what I said about recording with him (on a session level) but I don't think he is vocally right for INXS. He has more of a raw and alternative thing going on and I think he might actually be in a better position for a great career and future doing something else on his own. He toned down a lot of his stage theatrics throughout the course of the show and to be honest, I miss the scary conductor guy. As for Mig, he has lot to give as a performer, but perhaps that is better suited for what he knows best... the theater. He is an incredible theatrical talent. I will say this: So much for the conspiracy! At the end of the day, the choice was all about what INXS wanted. I never knew which way they were leaning or what they were thinking. I had to be totally neutral, plus, it aint my band. After the show we had our wrap party at The House of Blues on Sunset and the whole cast came down. Mig, Marty, J.D., Suzie, Jordis, Jessica, Ty, Neal, Brandon, Will, Dana, Daphna, Heather, Tara and Deanna. It was great to hang with them all again. After, my friend Greg and I went over to the Rainbow and threw down hard with fried mozzarella and pizza. Brooke and her crew came down too. It was kind of the end of season "f@#k it" meal. There is a treadmill with my name on it today!

1. She (Suzie) should have been given half the love that Mig got when he said good-bye.

Usually I say some parting words to the singers when they leave, but Suzie started responding to Tim before I got a chance. Andrew invited her over and that, as they say, is that. Trust me, Sweet Suzie knows how much I love her.

2. Will it be a big adjustment for you to not be involved in this anymore....kind of a post-show letdown?

Probably, but I am headed in to the studio with the TPC boys almost immediately, so I feel like I still have a full plate.

3. Can you at least give a girl a hint to the ink? Is it going to be a Panic Channel symbol?

Honestly, I won't know till I get there. I'm like that. As for the TPC logo, I'll get that the day we finish this record.

4. I have heard rumors about a 'Best of Jane's Addiction' coming out. Any chance you could fill me in on whether this is true or not?

Yes, it is true, however I don't know of a release date or what songs will be included. Let me do some investigating and I'll get back to you on this. I think it will be cool though. We never really did a proper "Best Of" record. (Actually, to me, Ritual is the "Best Of" already, but you know what I mean.)

Rockstar: INXS Finale

Rain, lightening and thunderstorms here in LA, an almost ominous final day of Rockstar: INXS. As I have quoted many times before and will quote many times again, "I love the rain, it washes memories off the sidewalks of life." (Woody Allen, Play It Again, Sam) I am on my way to tape the final episode of the show right now. By 11:00am PST, INXS will have a new lead singer and I will be deep into Season One of Lost. Sorry I was unable to launch my live video feed yesterday, but we did in fact create the new Spread Radio skin and the new shirts will be up later today. I'm looking forward to later on tonight as we have our wrap party and all of the season's contestants will be attending. It'll be great to catch up with my kids. Friday I am off to Las Vegas again for the Rokbar Vegas opening. I have decided to make it a 2 day excursion as I need the vacation. Poker, sleep, food, in-room movies, ink... general spiritual deprivation. Sorum will be there too. Between the two of us, we'll either run the town or go broke within a day. (I'm assuming the later.) Either way, now that I am wireless, just got a laptop, I may try to do a little Vegas live video feed. Who knows? If there is a good movie on pay-per-view, I might just do a pirate screening here via iSight and Vital Stream. 6:15am. There is my ride.

Coming Soon

This is just a little "Coming Soon" update for now. I am about to go to CBS for a day long meeting and then to the Dirty Love premiere. The new BC Ethic shirts should be up by today or tomorrow. Both 6767 and Camp Freddy (proceeds to ARC) designs will be available at Shop 13. Also, we are about to launch our new radio player, Spread Radio. As the launch of the new Panic Channel site approaches, I just felt it would be best to keep this world all-inclusive. The radio will contain the same content as it did before, CFR and TPC tunes, with a few bonus tracks included. Also, if I have time today, I am gonna try to do a "beta" test on the live streaming thing from CBS. No promises, but I will post if this does in fact take place. We are still working the bugs out, but what better way to do that then to go "live"? I just hope I have the time. If not, we will get to the live video feed later on in the week.

CFR Streaming/Podcast

Tonight's CFR has been loaded onto The Panic Radio thanks to Chase and Robert C. The broadcast is also now available for Podcast.

So, I saw Emily Rose tonight. I gotta say, it wasn't like a typical horror film. It was kind of a court room drama with flashbacks about possession. In fact, you could say that in this film, possession is 9/10 of the law. (Forgive me, please.) Jennifer Carpenter was really incredible in the roll of Emily.

6767 on iTunes

Here is the newest thing going on at 6767. We are now up at iTunes for podcasting. You can search Dave Navarro, 6767 or just go to this location for easy subscription.

1. Oh yeah, is there any truth to the talks of a Camp Freddy show in October down in LA?

As far as I know we are doing a Vanity Fair show on the 19th. I don't have any details at this time but I will update the info on the news page when I do.

2. Is the Chateau Marmont really worth staying at when I come to LA again?

Go check it out, it's a really great hang. As for checking in, I don't know what you like, but I have always had a killer time there. You know, they say there are ghosts at the Chateau. Just watch that you don't become one of them.

Black Wednesday

So sweet Suzie McNeil goes home! She does have an awesome voice but as Tim said, it's about what is right for the band at this point. It was a sad day for sure, but these kids have so much heart and talent that I know they will be heard from again. Only Mig, Marty and J.D. left and as far as I know, it could be any one of them. I had a chance to hit the studio yesterday with The Panic Channel guys and that was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to getting this record finished and out as soon as possible. For those of you who have asked, the new shirt designs should be up next week, hopefully by Monday.

1. Dave, please stop saying "DUDE". The show is great, you are great but I swear, if you say it one more time, I will have to turn the volume down on my TV when you come on. Signed, a person who says "dude, but knows when not to over use it"

That's fine, turn it down, but if you have a Nielsen Box, please don't change the channel! P.S. Technically speaking, if you say "dude" even once, it's considered over using it. So, welcome to the fold!

2. Dave, you are still on dial up? Hello 2005!

The DSL line comes in through a phone line in the house provided by the phone company. If the phone line is down, then... Wait. Am I really explaining this right now? I gotta find a new hobby! When the hell is that damn Season One of Lost gonna get here?

3. Hey Dave, how did it feel to be kissed by JD?

It was frighteningly reminiscent of the old JA days, circa 1989.

4. How hard is it for you keeping "silent" with YOUR personal opinion of who INXS says stays or goes?

It's not that hard really. I think that if I seem upset or disappointed, it's mainly because I have grown to love all of these kids and I will simply miss them. As for who wins this thing, it's up to the guys and I support whatever they want.

5. In some of the pictures, it looks like you are wearing a red bracelet or red string on your left wrist. Is there a special significance?

No, not at all but I got asked if I was into Kabbalah so many times, I just took it off. (Not that I have anything for or against it, it's just that the bracelet in question wasn't intended for public spiritual definition.)

Podcast

As a result of the 40-hour live telethon fundraiser to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, Indie 103.1 FM has raised over $61,000.00!

The new CFR is now loaded on the Panic Radio and is also available for Podcast. Just click the XML on this page and copy the URL into iTunes using the Advanced menu bar.

What else can I tell you? I am getting ready to go down and tape Tuesday's episode of Rockstar with the remaining four singers. They each get to do two songs again and they have another great selection to choose from. I found out yesterday that Sasha Krivtsov, the House Band bass player, is a pretty rad artist. You can check out some of his work here. His stuff is kind of like Picasso meets Bacon. I don't know how he'd feel about the comparison, but it's a compliment as far as I am concerned.

CFR & ARC

OK. I am officially over the whole conspiracy thing. Thanx for your thoughts and feedback, be it pro or con. It was interesting reading for sure. Anyway, tomorrow is an all new Camp Freddy Radio, however, I will not be in as I am focussing on music tomorrow. Billy and Matt will, as always, entertain you from 6pm-8pm. Unfortunately, the chat will also be closed tomorrow, but 6767 will be re-broadcasting the show on the radio here as well as providing the Podcast. 6767 chat will reopen next week at it's regularly scheduled times.

In response to the recent tragic events in Louisiana, Mississippi and other Gulf states, Indie 103.1 will be broadcasting a 40-hour long live telethon fundraiser to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina starting on Sept 9th.

Here's What We Think Of Your Conspiracy

I have always been a fan of conspiracies and the unexplained. Kennedy, Area 51, Scientology, Loch Ness, U.F.O.s… Rockstar: INXS? I never thought in a million years I would be at the center of such a controversy! As you know, I usually don’t defend myself all that much here, but now that there are accusations being thrown at my friends and co-workers, I am happy to respond. Theory #1: Mig Ayesa is a ringer and he was added much later in order to win the competition. I can tell you for a fact that Mig has been in the competition from the start. True, there were 14 singers at the start of the show, but the 15th that was added late in the game was a female. Theory #2: The voting is rigged. Now why would anyone do that? After all, this decision comes down to INXS and they can send home or save whomever they want at any time. The voting is to see how the public is feeling in order to help make that choice, but in the end, the band can always over ride something they don’t agree with. Rigging the voting just makes no sense. Theory #3: The show isn’t live. Well, nobody has ever said that it was. In fact, every week I post about how I’m going to a taping on this Sunday or that Wednesday. Theory #4: My comments aren’t accurate. Hey, I call it like I see it. Rock is very subjective. What works for me may not work for others. How long do you think Lou Reed would last in this thing? Not long but he is one of my favorite singers. Bottom line? I’m not in INXS so what do I have to gain by lying about what I am seeing and hearing? Theory #5: Too hard on J.D. Well, I’ll say, when he is a jerk, I hammer him, when he does well, I am fully supportive. Nobody else gets hammered because they don’t exhibit the behavior to warrant it.

At the end of the day, I am having the time of my life watching these kids grow, do great songs and getting to know them and all the people I work with. Watch it or don’t, we are all having a blast!

Camp Freddy Venue Shirts (ARC)

This just in. The new Camp Freddy venue T-shirts will be available by next week, here at 6767. The show on the 29th is a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and all the proceeds from the tickets and merchandise will go to The American Red Cross. If you cannot attend, you can purchase the above designs here, knowing that your dollars will go to a great cause. Thanx to BC Ethic for their support and efforts to make this possible.

Black Wednesday: After

So Jordis has gone home. I'm not as broken up about it as I usually am when someone leaves the show. I have total faith in her and I know she is going to be just fine. I plan to stay in contact with her (She is, in fact, an honorary member of Camp Freddy since performing with us several weeks ago.) as I have with several others and will keep you informed as to what she does next. She is a beautiful woman with so much talent... And she is so young! I think she can pretty much do whatever the f!#k she wants now.

For the Yamaha acoustic auction I am going to donate (ARC) my original prototype white signature guitar. The thing is, they haven't even made them in the factory yet! So all I have is the first one ever made. Yeah, it's a special one. It's the one I am holding in all the ads that have run. I'm sure Yamaha will replace it when they make them, but for now it's the best I can do. I'll let you know when it goes up. Robert and I are setting that up soon.

1. When are the new T-shirts coming?

New 6767 shirts will be arriving this month in M, L & XL. (We listen here at 6767.) We are bringing back the original design due to the demand, but there will be alternates to come in future months. Also, for those of you who cannot attend the Camp Freddy benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Sept 29, 6767 and BC Ethic have made it possible for you to purchase the venue shirts here. Of course all of the proceeds from these sales will go to The American Red Cross.

2. What's in the Netflix que for you?

I checked to answer this one and got, "The Netflix store is temporarily unavailable because of scheduled maintenance work." Damn! I know I have a lot of Japanese films and documentaries in there right now. I think my next 5 in line are Nip/Tuck episodes followed by Season 1 of Lost. I know there is a Manson Family documentary in there somewhere. I would recommend the Japanese film "Audition" for those of you who like to be disturbed and have not seen it.

3. Which of the original songs from last night's show was your favorite?

Trees by Marty Casey.

4. Why is it when I’m at Starbucks mainly Sat afternoons; you are waiting impatiently behind me. Almost gasping under your breath as I am trying to decide my order?

I don't know! That is so weird! Especially when you consider the fact that on Saturday afternoons, I go to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Perhaps you are waiting in line with me in a parallel universe.

5. Are you still going to be doing the traveling art display of the rest of the photo booth strips?

Yes. After the show we are starting that project back up to coincide with the release of the book in paperback. I have actually taken steps to get this done just last week. I am thinking two cities. You guessed it, New York and Los Angeles.

Black Wednesday

Here we go with another elimination. It's gonna be a sad day over at the CBS Studio. Marty, Jordis, J.D., Mig or Suzie. One of them is outta here and I couldn't be less excited about. Not only do I feel like I am gonna lose a family member, but this day really feels like the show is finally winding down and soon will be over. Anyway, I have to get to it. I just wanted to say good morning. BTW, I spoke with Yamaha who has kindly donated a guitar and I am going to hold an auction here soon to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I will keep you posted as to when and how this will happen. Also, we know that the radio and community are down. Robert and I have been switching servers and our content will be up again soon. Not to worry. Thank you all for your support and I will get back at you later. I miss our little Q & A thing here, so if there is anything I can answer, feel free to post your questions.

CFR Streaming/Podcast

PcrLast Saturday's CFR loaded now!

The Panic Channel Radio

The show is also available for Podcast. Click XML on this site and add the URL to your iPod using the Advanced menu in iTunes.

I'm out to tape another performance show. It's hard to believe that we only have three more weeks of the season. It has all gone by so fast. There are only five remaining strong vocalists and personalities. I can't imagine who is gonna win, nor can I imagine who will go home next. After the show today I am gonna get into Season Two of Nip/Tuck. (Netflix really is an amazing service.) I would like to once again thank Robert and Chase for their work and support with this site. They are the ones who make CFR rebroadcasts and Podcasts possible, among other things. BTW, if you are having trouble viewing Rockstar on the 6767TV, it's because the show is not there anymore. We kind of got busted for our pirated streams. Oh well, we tried. Tonight is an all new Rockstar: INXS on VH1 at 8:00pm. Thanx for all of your support and I will check in later.

Just About Nothing

Down to the final five and only three more weeks of taping for the show, then it's back to work on The Panic Channel record which Steve has been going through with producer Josh Abraham. I think that all of the remaining singers are extremely talented and it's really down to taste in terms of who is gonna take the job with INXS. Yesterday I hung with the remaining five and the vibe was kind of dark as we got into another clinic to air on Sunday on VH1. Clearly they miss their friends. I have received word that the elimination shows for the rest of the season will be a full hour. My parents are coming to the show on Sunday. They are very cute and all into it. "I can't believe Ty went home! Who is gonna win? Suzie is amazing! What's Jordis like? Is JD really that calculated?" What else is going on? Really not much else. I guess I am becoming one of those bloggers who blogs to talk about what he isn't doing. (If only to start a new thread so I can keep track of your comments.) I'm not working today for sure. I'm gonna hit the gym, have some lunch and just lay around all day. Play time for a bit. There will be an "All New CFR" tomorrow night on Indie 103.1FM 6pm - 8pm PST. The show will be streaming from the Indie site, as well as loaded into the radio here and available for Podcast later in the evening. Why? Because that's how we roll. Billy and I will be a talking about the upcoming Camp Freddy show at the Key Club on Sept. 29th and what the line up is looking like. Once again, the proceeds for this show will be donated to The American Red Cross.
